Into the Ruins - Exalted 3e IC

Rolling Join Battle, and I think Purr Purr is still avoiding the site dice roller in favor of solid math rocks.

6 starting initiative.

Chowlett Chowlett is up first with his stunning roll. You are at medium range of the figures around the cauldron at the moment.

19 - Silent Glade !
9 - Grey Stone
9 - Amara
8 - Fat Cat
6 - Aredin
4 - Mercy
3 - Cloaked Figures 1-6
3 - zombies

Hm, Medium range. That's awkward, can't close to melee. However, assuming this would be an Ambush attack, so my target has defence 0... I can reach them with my darts. So let's do that.

Silent Glade quickly assesses the situation. He had landed in the yard at the precise moment Aredin had started his charge in, and the figures around The Cauldron still seem unaware, or at least slow to react. But the distance to reach them looks just a bit too great to cover in a single dash.

So the Night Caste reaches for one of the wicked barbs strapped carefully to his back, and launches it at the nearest cultist... piercing them straight through the neck. His cover blown, but with one enemy down already, Glade draws Root and Branch, and closes to Short range.

Decisive attack on the nearest of the six cloaked figures, against a defence of 0. 6 dice on the attack - 5 successes (when one would have done!)
Hit - Decisive damage rolling 19 dice - 9 Lethal damage

Glade is now, presumably, seen; and has 3 initiative.

Silent Glade hurls the dart with deadly intent at one of the six cloaked figures, causing the person to drop like a sack of potatoes, falling partly into the fire around the cauldron where the billowing cloak catches fire. This has the added effect of causing the other five figures to step back in shock, but they continue their chanting.

Evocations of Destiny
A user of Destiny may change the result of one die on an attack or damage roll, moving it up or down one digit. For example if a player rolls seven dice with the results “5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 2, 10,” they can change one of the dieʼs digits. In the above example, they might change the “6” up one digit to a “7” thus adding an additional successes. The magic of Destinyʼs evocations directly relates to the numbers rolled on dice. As such some players may also choose to decrease a number rolled.

Evocations of Fire Dancer
A user of Fire Dancer may place one of their Intimacies, which must be Defining, as their “innermost desire”. While the Intimacy is set and Fire Dancer is worn the user increases their Withering Damage by 4 when fighting for a cause related to the Intimacy.

Amara runs at lightning speed, crossing the distance between her and the figures at the cauldron. You are now at short range, and will be able to engage on your next turn if you so choose.

"Your actions are a blight upon Creation. You will hereby cease them from this moment forth and surrender to us, lest you choose to suffer the wrath of this world's greatest champions!" Grey Stone declared to the remaining cultists in a booming voice as he called upon both his Essence and raised Faith's Pillar in both hands.

[Charisma + Presence Roll to Threaten the cultists into calling off their zombies and surrendering to us, rather than get mauled by a group of fighters clearly wielding Artifact Weapons. Spending 5m Personal Essence on Harmonious Presence Meditation, giving me three bonus die to certain social influence rolls. Charisma 5 + Presence 3 + 3 Bonus Dice gives me 11 dice to roll with.

Only three successes. Not hoping for much from it, but if the cultists don't give in, at least Grey Stone can wallop them with a clear(er) conscience now.]

Grey Stone's yell is answered by one of the remaining cloaked figures, saying, "Stand strong! We have nearly gathered enough energy to complete the ritual, and these people rightly fear our Master! Continue the spell!" You do get the feeling that one or two are wavering, but at this statement, their weakening resolve firms up and they begin to chant once more.

Purr Purr is up next with Fat Cat. At this point, unless you jump off of Amara's shoulder, you are still with her at Short Range.

(O.K.. Pardon my tired mind, friends, but here goes.) =)

Deep Forest - White Whisper (Pericles Remix) - Instrumental Action Music!

O Mighty Fat Bat, er, Cat looks upon the chaos and the magical carnage taking place inside the cursed town. His moon-like eyes widen with a fuller comprehension for the curse these poor townsfolk are under. But that only lasts a moment. It is shortly replaced by a growing resolve. It is as if some great inner force finds and clutches his very heart in great and irresistible hands and shakes O Mighty Fat Cat to his very core.
What unholiness is this?! This was no curse of nature where there really was nothing or no one to blame - before him were cultists! People who have chosen to drown the powerless townsfolk into the darkness of despair from which no hope could spare them from drowning!

His mind reels as the realization of all of this dawns upon him! "By... mighty... LUNA!" he thinks inside. "What have dese people done to deserve... dis?!" O Mighty Fat Cat's utter distaste of slavery makes something inside of him cringe... and become very angry. But to lose oneself to anger was to lose oneself in life. One look into his own gentle heart makes the jungle-born Lunar realize... he has not the answer!

Even in the form of a bat, his eyes are bright and filled with resolve as O Mighty Fat Cat ceases to look within... and instead looks above! Up, up, to where the moon hangs in the sky if he could see it or to where he last saw it. There, inside his faithful soul, he brings forth his prayer for an idea... something... anything... to get these blasted chanters to cease their chanting and maybe, maybe... help break this diabolic curse upon people who, as far as he knew, had done no wrong to anyone!

"O Blessed Luna!" he mentally beseeches the heavens. "Mistress of de Night, Eva-changing Jewel in de Sky, altar of my very soul! Please! Give to me inspiration! Inspiration for de sake of freedom! De freedom of dese people! If dey are worthy in your eyes, help me break dis evil spell upon dem! O MY LUNA!"

O Mighty Fat Cat lets go of his troubles, his goals, his fears, and focuses only on what remains. Inside of him, he sees... a clear and orb-like crystal. The moon! But now it changes. It becomes sharp-looking like a crescent. The jewel! What had O Mighty Fat Cat prayed just now? The "eva-changing" jewel! He must change!

But into what? Surely something well-beyond his cute little bat form. The jewel in his mind expanded in size. It became larger and larger and even larger until his tiny bat-eyes could not comprehend the size of it! But O Mighty Fat Cat knew his largest shape in his mind well. But what to do once there? The Tyrant Lizard form was the most bestial instinctive killing form he knew! Surely, there was a better way! He wanted to break the chanters focus and hopefully get them to surrender!

Well... was not O Mighty Fat Cat the sole master of the Lucky Fat Cat Express? Had he not traveled from city to city, place to place, and... what could replace the sound of chanting better than a new sound? The sound... of song! Yes! Song relies on emotion! Emotion is one side of a coin where logic is the other. To battle the logic of memorized scripture-like chanting... with song!

But it must be a tremendous song! A popular song! One perhaps even the chanters might know! And as the Old Village had taught him, what was song without dance? What was a dance without joy? Yes! He had it! Praise beyond praise to the everlasting, most gracious force his world had ever known - Luna!

Where before O Mighty Fat Cat was an emotionally-embroiled ball of fur and leathery wings, he uses Amara's speedy momentum to launch himself into action to become something more - something much more! Briefly, he tries to wave a warning to both Amara and Mercy to not get too close - lest the two beautiful Solars accidentally get caught up in the outrageous mayhem that is about to unfold!

O Mighty Fat Cat soars up just enough that when gravity takes him, he will fall back to the earth either among or on top of the chanters! Either way will stop them probably without killing them, right? He reaches deep into the most savage, base instincts possessed in his mind to draw upon the undeniably-gargantuan form of one of the most feared predators in all of Creation - the terrible Tyrant Lizard! Humongous! Scaly! A terror filled with a fearsome bite like no other with equal tenacity! Falling through the air, Da Chonk does his best to land in a comet-like earthquake-causing impact aided further by the smashing of his now-incredibly-powerful legs straight into the ground. He hopes this sends irresistible shockwaves in every direction... but all of this is only the lead-up to the Big Show!

Using his powerful legs to leap out of what he hopes is a giant debris-strewn crater, O Mighty Fat Tyrant Lizard pops up with a savage attention-grabbing roar that only a predatory dinosaur could make - and in the moment where hopefully every chanter has their eyes upon him... Da Chonk puts everything he has into bursting into sudden wild song and dance!

"Frog Hello, My Baby" - And yes, O Mighty Fat Tyrant Lizard is doing this very dance (or whatever song/dance combination would be best in this side of Creation?).

O Mighty Fat Tyrant Lizard's legs kick up piles of rock and other debris and whatever is in front of him (including chanters, if they are present), his long tail flying about, even his tiny arms flailing, he wordlessly roars out this recognizable tune at the very top of his lungs! Best of all is Da Chonk's winning smile, a cavernous array of pointed teeth above which his exuberant eyes twinkle with true and pure enthusiasm as he stomps all over the place and "sings" now as if to reach Luna's very own ears, high above the clouds, and into the minds and hearts of every listener within earshot! Da Chonk hopes to have become a living earthquake gone mad!

Deep in his heart, O Mighty Fat Singing and Dancing Tyrant Lizard hopes this results in an earthshaking ear-bursting wild and crazy cacophony that even the dead cannot ignore!

Fat Cat launches himself from the shoulder of the Dawn caste Exalt in a blurt of bat wings and fur, his wings taking him up into the air. Looking down at the cultists, he shifts his form from a small bat to the massive and terrifying Tyrant Lizard, smashing into the middle of the group like a tidal wave hitting the rocks and sundering them to rubble.

The sudden appearance of this horrible monster is enough to unleash the primal fear locked away in the back of the mind of those that are sane, and four off the remaining five robed figures scatter and run; the fifth is stuck under Fat Cat's massive foot and is going nowhere.

Normally, that would signal the start of a horrid bloodbath, but this Lunar has something else in mind. With a huge roar that can be heard miles away, he begins to dance and sing. It is almost comical how the Tyrant Lizard hops about to the tune he growls out. This does have the desired result of stopping the cultists from working their ritual.

Aredin is determined to see the source of this ritual end, even if the casters flee in terror now. He lashes out at the nearest fleeing cultist with Adorei in a forward tumble just as he lands from his initial leap, surprised that the others had not only kept pace with both Grey Stone and himself in the chaos but managed to charge ahead despite it all.

In the heat of the moment and raucous performance, the Eclipse pauses after the strike to survey the field and gauge the reaction in the city to the sudden disturbance in the dark magic enveloping this village.

[I've been a bit confused if we're going to continue combat with all the opponents either fleeing combat or subdued by our giant lunar. Assuming we are continuing the fight, I might as well go with a withering attack this round as well as the awareness roll.

5 successes on Awareness
7 successes on the Withering Attack]

With the rampaging Lunar stomping around, it has sent the cultists (the ones that can still run, that is) scattering to the four winds. They clearly don't have any desire to continue the ritual that you have disrupted.

But that doesn't mean that everything is going ok. Since Aredin is right there next to the cauldron, he can see that inside it there is a figure that seems to be sucking in all the light that touches it, leaving it shrouded in darkness. You are the only one that is in a position to be able to perceive this shape; the others are just positioned in a bad spot and Fat Cat is busy belting out show tunes as he dances around.

Rykon Rykon you can change your attack action to something else if you want, or you can shift your target from the fleeing cultist to the darkness in the bottom of the cauldron, or you can continue on with your declared action and get some Initiative points from the cultist as you perform your Withering Attack. What would you like to do?

Ah, then I'd like the target to be the darkness in the bottom of the cauldron. All the other threats seem under control.

Aredin's blade stabs forth and pierces the darkness, at least a little, and the dark shape let's out a snarl of pain as it tries to get away from the magical sword.

Rykon Rykon You got it with six successes on your withering attack. Go ahead and roll your damage.

Mercy moves up and off to the side of Aredin to get a clear look at the dark thing emerging from the cauldron, as she does so, she channels some of her essence into the soulsteel skycutter (the charm Precision of the Striking Raptor, which makes her skycutter treat its range as always close to set up its accuracy), before she launches the weapon into the sky, the ancient and powerful weapon created with souls of the underworld gave off an eerie wailing and moaning drone sound as it was flashing black and red in the strange lights around them as it flew towards toward the shadowy creature.

Skycuter Artifact (Medium Thrown, +12 Damage, Overwhelming 4, Attunement 5)

Withering Attack Roll = Dexterity+Thrown+4 (close range accuracy score) = 4+4+4 = 12 dice = 6 successes
Damage = Strength+Weapon Damage+Threshold Attack Success = 2+12 + threshold attack successes?= 14 + (?)

The creature has a DV of 3 at the moment. And if you would be so kind as to give me a Perception plus Awareness roll?

Perception (3) + Awareness(2) = 5 Dice = 0 Successes

Mercy is too wrapped up in watching her Skycutter fly to notice anything ;-)

Mercy throws her sky cutter in a nasty arc that sends the strange dark being scrambling for cover, but in the heat of the fight, you don't notice anything about the figure to be able to identify it.

The last of the cultists are all on the run, and obviously have no stomach to stick around and see what happens next.

The zombies are all acting even more confused than before, and don't seem to be doing anything at all.

Rykon Rykon is up with Aredin, and everyone regains five mores of Essence

Crashed - cloaked figure

Aredin draws back his arm, channeling his essence into Adorei before hurling the daiklave into the dark stormy skies in a whirling ascent. Lightning strikes the gleaming sun-metal blade just as the Eclipse draws back on his motes for his own ascent. Taking hold of his trusty blade, he points it down into the recoiling darkness into a diving thrust.

[Decisive attack, Full Excellency, 3m Fire and Stones Strike, and Thunderbolt Attack Prana. Attack pool is 11 Base + 3 Accuracy + 10 Excellency + 2 Stunt for 26.
10 attack successes, assuming a full 3 dice carry over to damage for Fire and Stones Strike.

13 base damage successes with no double 10s, with TBA that's 26 Lethal on the dark figure.]

Aredin's deadly blade strikes home, cutting deep into the shadowy figure and with the power of the Unconquered Sun behind you, the figure vanishes from sight with a blood-curdling scream that no human could have made. Whatever it was, it appears to be gone.

That does leave the four remaining cultists that are desperately running away, and are undoubtedly the ones responsible for causing the torment of the townspeople. They are scattering away as fast as their legs can carry them.
