Into the Mists

Lexi let go of Rey and smiled to her. "There's all sorts of stories of people of all kinds getting pulled from their lands of all sorts. Some say the Mists choose them for a reason, some sort of destiny or something, but Master says that's a load of crap, and it's just a purely random phenomenon. I dunno about any of that, but you guys sure seem special to me. Anyways... I wouldn't consider it to be too likely that you'll find anyone from your land. There's potentially infinite worlds for Outsiders to be drawn from, and the odds of another person from your world being chosen are slim to none, and it's even less likely that it would be anyone you know. Still, I suppose it's always possible?"

Lexi shrugged before turning to Lucan as he prepared to leave and chuckled nervously. "Well, I'm afraid there's not much more of a story to tell for me, unless you enjoy hearing about hours on end of arcanic research. Still, I'm looking forward to learning about you guys as well. Anyways, good night Mr. Lucan, sir!" Lexi smiled and waved at Lucan as he left before turning back to Rey. "So... runes?"

Rey nodded and waved as Lucan headed away before turning her attention back to Lexi. "Some of the things I've seen, or heard about, you'd be surprised how often 'slim to none' chances end up happening. One of my own teachers used to tell us," Rey deepened her voice for a moment, her expression pretending to match someone speaking with authority, "'If given the option to bet on a million-to-one chance -- do so. Nine times out of ten it will happen because the universe loves its jokes.'" She smiled towards Lexi, "That also means there's a pretty good chance your Master is alive somewhere. Kind of makes me sound like an optimist, but more it's ... I suppose saying it's worth betting on the impossible because usually it happens."

After Lexi's question, Reyeara chuckled, "Hopefully that's not all I am to you already?" She picked up the room key, looking it over for a moment, "I'm pretty much finished, are you?" Rey looked across the table towards Jon, "You need anything? Else we might head up -- not sure how much the room actually was, but I doubt it cost too much."

Lexi giggles at Rey’s impression before smiling sheepishly to her. “I don’t think Master and your teacher would get along very well at all, but I get what you’re saying.” When Rey joked about being just a source of runes to Lexi, Lexi looked at her horrified. “What? No! I think you’re really cool, Rey, and I’d never want to just-“ Mittens interrupted, squeaking in her ear, and Lexi blushes slightly. “Oh... you were joking... sorry, I don’t always pick up on that...anyways, I’m ready to go whenever you are.” Lexi then stood up and gave Jon a quick bow. “It was nice to meet you, Mr. Jon!”

"Naah ... he didn't get along with many people in general. Still has my respect though, managed to get me to sit still long enough to learn Draconic and runes." As she spoke, Reyeara started piling together the empty bowls, stacking them on the table. "Might as well help whoever has to clean up have an easier time, yeah?"

Standing she pushed her chair in before giving a small half-hearted salute towards Jon, "Catch you in a few hours I guess, unless you decide to wander off."

Tossing the key gently as she moved towards the rooms, she looked at the small number attached, trying to match up the number to a door. "You said that weasel was named Mittens, right? Seems like it takes care of you more than you do it," she spoke with a smirk before finding the right door with a three scrawled on it. Pushing open the door she kept one hand on a rapier, peering into the room through the crack first before allowing the door to open further, looking quickly to the inside wall before pushing the door hard the rest of the way, making it thud against the wall.

Her gaze swept over the room, hand still on a rapier, noting the small amount of furniture, meaning even fewer hiding places for anyone or anything. Slowly she relaxed her stance a bit, turning back towards Lexi, "Sorry, habits. Dislike entering rooms when I don't know what might be waiting. Anyway, seems clear, c'mon in, you can have the bed if you want."

After Lexi entered, Reyeara closed the door, locking it and leaving the key in the lock to help block any lock picking attempts, the thud of the key falling if pushed out would help act as an alert. She turned to face the tiefling, setting her rapiers delicately against the side table then held out her arm with the gauntlet, the rune flickering again -- the same pale blue color as Reyeara's eyes. "So... runes?" She smiled towards the younger girl, mimicking her words from earlier.

Lexi happily followed after Rey, and glanced to Mittens when she mentioned him. “Yeah, he really does. Master always said I’d lose my darned horns if I didn’t have Mittens around to keep track of them for me. He didn’t really approve of my choice of familiar, says it’s pure foolishness to not pick something with wings... but come on, he’s adorable!” Lexi hugged the weasel for a moment before watching Rey curiously as she seemed to scout out the room. Lexi followed after her and hopped onto the bed which creaked loudly under the weight of the small tiefling, and smiled brightly to Rey as she flashed the rune, pulling out a notebook and nodding eagerly to her, too excited to speak.

Reyeara grinned at the excitement she saw from Lexi -- made her think back to when she'd finally managed to get her first rune working. "Unlike your spells, once I use it, I need to spend some time recharging it, and right now it's only active for about half a minute at most. If I get distracted, it might cut out early, then it's expended for awhile. So ... yeah, not the most impressive magic, but for someone like me, it's still managed to save my life a few times."

She stepped closer to the tiefling, letting her view the rune -- without the glow it was a faint carving into the metal of the gauntlet, a triangular shape broken up into smaller forms -- "Even if I gave you this gauntlet and you called the command word, it wouldn't activate for you, nor if it got too far away from me, so it's got a bit of a security measure tied to it. It's a little more of a relief when it comes to other runes, this one isn't too worrying, but it can still make a mess." She traced the rune with a finger, "This is actually the one I made for my graduation -- final test of rune crafting, find out if it'd work or blow up in my face."

Stepping back closer to the door and away from any loose items, Reyeara smiled, "I suggest keeping a tight grip on anything you don't want flying around, it's about to get pretty windy." Putting on a bit of a show for the girl, she held her arm out again and spoke the command word: "VARD VIND." The rune suddenly gave a vibrant glow as Reyeara's eyes flashed, the white of her hair creeping up further and a wind began to pick up in the room, centered on the woman. Her hair danced in the gusts, the sheets on the bed lifting and fluttering as they were pulled towards Reyeara, standing with both hands on her hips. She spoke a little louder to be heard over the wind, "Guarding Wind -- makes it difficult for ranged things to hit me -- useful for when someone's trying to slow me down by shooting arrows or spells at me!"

Lexi quickly began to take down notes of everything she could see: what Rey was saying, what she was doing, what the runes looked like, and any other miscellaneous details she could spot before Rey warned her to hold onto her things, and she stopped and quickly put away her notebook in her bag, clutching it tightly before grabbing Mittens and squeezing him close as well before giving Rey a nod and watching excitedly as the wind began to pick up. Her hood blew off her head and Lexi began to laugh happily as she watched the effects of the rune. "It's like a downgraded Warding Wind spell! That's really cool! The real thing usually lasts about ten minutes and has a much faster velocity to it, but also takes a bit longer to activate." Lexi watched to mentally record what she could about the rune, taking notice of Rey's eyes flashing. It seems that these runes bear a greater resemblance to real spell-casting than Master originally thought. It's more than just 'scribbles from a bunch of cheap conjurers incapable of doing the real thing'... at least, I think. It seems that there is some natural ability involved as well.

Trying to hear through the wind, Reyeara nodded as she moved forward towards Lexi, the small whirlwind fading as the room began to calm down again. "Yeah, this is more for an emergency with as short as it lasts, but like I said -- saved my life a few times. Armor can only do so much, it's better if they never hit me at all right?" She brought the gauntlet over to Lexi again, the faint rune looked darker like it had burned out. "In the morning -- er well, whenever I end up waking, it'll be available again for use. It's tied to me, so it wears me out a little as well," she pulled some of her hair between her fingers.

"Some of this white will be gone by then -- not everyone's runes mark them the same, for whatever reason mine ended up being my hair. A few other students had their own marks, I think one, their eyes darkened, another they got lines that would show up on their skin." Reyeara shrugged, "Might be tied to what rune they worked on first, not sure. Never bothered asking. Anyway -- that was my demonstration for the night," she bowed for a moment, "hopefully I won't have to use the other runes any time soon." Standing straighter she stretched, "Looks like it's time to meet my old friend 'Floor' and try to get some sleep. If you get restless, after a little while Lucan will probably be up and about somewhere. Doesn't exactly keep the same schedule the rest of us might."

Retrieving her rapiers from where they rested against the sidetable, Reyeara tried to find a comfortable place on the floor, her back against the wall and rapiers resting next to her within easy reach, a hand through the straps for the sheaths. Resting her head on an arm she looked over to Lexi on the bed, "Hopefully we can help you ... It's still a little disorientating to try and understand what all happened, being dropped in an unfamiliar place, let alone apparently a whole world ... but I think our million-to-one chances are gonna come up more often than not. Things will work out somehow." She finished with a smile as she tried to make herself comfortable.

As the winds died down, Lexi quickly pulled out her notebook and began to write down what she noticed about the rune, and quickly sketched it's dark form again before pausing, looking back up at Rey with a smile. "Thanks for showing me, Ms. Rey. I'm sorry for keeping you up so long. I might go and talk to Mr. Lucan in the morning. I'm pretty curious about the elven process of trancing." Lexi kept taking notes as Rey got ready for sleep, but paused for a moment and handed Rey the pillow from the bed. "Here... I think you'll need it more than I will. Oh, and let me get that light." Lexi flicked a hand towards the candle lighting the room, and it quickly sputtered and faded away, leaving the room in black and white. She began to write again, the darkness hardly hindering her sight, but then spoke in a small voice. "Ms. Rey? Thanks again, for everything. It's nice to have friends to help take care of me." Lexi then went back to writing for a long while before she finally finished her note taking and lay down to rest with her bag of books as a pillow, acutely aware of the strange black book beneath her head as she eventually drifted off to unconsciousness.

When Lucan had finished his four hours of meditation he shook his head and rose from the chair. Placing his rapier back into its sheath, he moved to the alarm he'd set on the door and disabled it. After packing the string and bell back into his pack, he opened the door of his room into the hall and moved the chair so he could see the others' rooms. Looking himself over, Lucan realized that his boots were caked in mud, something most might not notice, but he'd rather not give them the chance. He removed his boots and took a seat, carefully using a dagger to dig the mud out of the treading and to scrape mud off the edges of the sole. He cared about how he looked and the image he presented, and the finer details of things rarely escaped him. He knew these distractions occasionally could be a problem, fixating on a photograph that wasn't hung straight for example, but he also knew that details added up to the truth and it was always important to get at the truth. So he continued to mind the details, and focus on the things others ignored.

Faria wakes up with the sun up outside and stands slowly putting her armor on for the day, after eating a quick breakfast of trail rations where she discusses with Dirge some of the events that had happened the day before. She waves to Iselka, and Camus giving the small kid a wink as she heads out. She let them know that she might not be back today and if they had to move camp not to wait on her. She briefly thanked the two adults present letting them know that if she did run into Andis or Varius she’d update them as well.

Heading back to town she made her way through the forest, and out onto the main road heading into town and then taking the right turn to go north heading past the Blood of the Vine Inn and following the street until she came to the horribly unkempt grounds of the church. The town in the morning she managed to see a few people wandering about the town on their own business. She could often forget how many people still lived in town since she had a habit of visiting during odd hours. She proceeded through the front double doors and as a creature of habit took a seat in one of the few pews that were still intact. She brought forth a small wooden holy symbol and clasps it in her hands before lowering her head forward onto it.

‘Morninglord, I come to you again today to thank you. I prayed for you to send something to help Lexi despite her demon blood you’ve sent people from a faraway land through the mists. It’s the only way I can explain so many people showing up as being as odd as her. I knew upon seeing them that they would take her in, and though I am not entirely convinced by a few of their motives I think she will be safer with them than without.

The wolf you sent my way a week ago I now realize must have been your influence as well. Thank you for guiding me to a place where I have felt safe enough to sleep soundly. I am grateful, for the small gifts you have sent. As always I ask that you extend some of your power to this town, for it has as you know not done well these last few years. Your priest is in solemn spirit, and the Mayor of the town is sick. I plan to visit him today to see if there is anything that might be done of that. Well… that isn’t entirely true. I’m also going to try and see if he knows where HE is. I don’t feel ready to face him. The forces inside me pull at me still and I’ve yet to gain full control over them. One day I may be ready but please keep him looking, and busy far away.

After visiting the Burgomeister I’m going to check up with the people you sent here, and see how Lexi is doing with them. As they are outsiders I might be able to explain a bit more of my situation, but I fear the lawman and woman might side out me to the wrong people. I do not trust those in power not to pass my clan’s secret to HIM and then it will be all for nothing. I… don’t even know if it is still possible anyways…

Please let them be able to understand. I don’t want to die.

As always, I strive to help those who may be touched by your light when mine is so far gone. Thank you Morninglord.’

With her prayer’s done she puts the wooden symbol back under her armor and proceeds to go find Donovan to make sure the man was indeed still eating. Faria believed that he had food but she didn’t believe for a minute the man had been eating enough. She approached down the pews towards the altar.

"Yeah, I'm fine. The two of you can go to your rooms, I'll be finishing my stew." Jonathan says to Reyeara in response of her asking if he needed anything else. "Nice to meet you as well, go get some rest." He says with a nod towards Lexi. Shortly after the two of them walked off talking about their magic and gimmicks, Jonathan gulps down the rest of his stew and makes his way towards the counter to drop off the empty bowl. Handing the man behind the bar a gold coin, he leans on the bar and yawns a bit. "This'll do right? Just put the rest of the change on a tab or something, I'm off to bed." Grabbing one of the spare room keys, Jonathan walks to his room, opens the door, and straight up drops down on his bed to sleep.

The next morning Jonathan rubs the grit out of his eyes and stretches widely on his bed. Stepping out of bed, he does some push-ups and proceeds to shadow box until he feels fit enough to start his roadwork. "Might want to skip on roadwork today, should stick with the old man to find a way out of here.." Having worked up quite a sweat, his throat starts to get parched. Feeling thristy, he makes his way back towards the bar expecting to find atleast some kind of employee down there.

Waking up early in the morning, Geyser groans as he rolls out of bed. He looks down at his body and sees that he never changed out of his armor, and it had made him cramp up. Taking a few minutes to stretch out, he grabbed his water skin and took a few long drinks from his waterskin, clearing the cottonmouth that followed his night of drinking. Other than the soreness from sleeping in the armor though, he felt fine. He was a very experienced drinker, and it had been some time since he had a hangover.

Moving to the washbasin, Geyser dunked his whole head under the water and used his hands to create a rapid swirling current to clean out his hair and beard of any leftover grime from the night before. Lifting his head up with a whip of the neck, Geyser shook his head like a dog before arcing his wrists above his head and causing the moisture to leave his hair, and with a fluid motion he deposited it back into the washbasin. Satisfied, Geyser slung his pack over his shoulder and walked out into the hallway only to see Lucan sitting there cleaning out his boots, chatting with a small trifling girl he didn’t recognize. Attempting to push by quickly to get outside Geyser said, “Ah, good to see another early riser, good morning friend. I’m gonna head out for a brisk morning walk, I will be back in a moment.”

"... So that's why we Tran-" Lucan stopped mid thought as Geyser tried to pas him by. "Not so fast there. We'll all be taking a walk together once the others are ready. There's a lot we need to discuss. The short of it is, we're not even in the Sword Coast anymore, let alone anywhere near Baldur's Gate, hell if the locals are to be believed, we might not even be on Faerun." He stated everything with a matter of fact tone as he bent down to slip his boots back on. "The plan as it stands is for us to stick together, speak with the local authority figure, this 'Burgomaster' who might have some answers, and see where we can go from there." He finished lacing his boots and stood then looked to toward Lexi and back to Geyser, "Sorry, Lexi, this is Geyser, the water genasi we told you about. Geyser, this is Lexi. She's not from around here either and she'll be joining us on our trip around 'Barovia' to find a way home. Now, I know we don't all know each other super well, and I'd be hard pressed to call you a friend, but right now, it looks like we're the only friends you've got. So straighten up and fly right, and we'll all get out of this mess and you can get on with whatever it was you were drinkin' away when Jon very graciously didn't kick your ass." Lucan chuckled, then frowned toward Lexi, "Pardon my language."

Walking over to Geyser, Lucan put an arm around him, leaning in close and whispering so Lexi was less likely to be startled. "Jon's down stairs gettin' a drink you should keep him some company. But don't go runnin' off. That's how you get lost... or dead." He straightened up, pat Geyser on the back and turned back around to Lexi, "Now, where was I? Oh yeah...Even though we don't need sleep, we have to keep our minds sharp for about seven hundred years, the best way to do that is with some mental exercises that we learn when we're young and that become more instinctual as we age, so that's why we Trance." Lucan laughed as he glanced over his shoulder to see if Geyser had gone, "Luckily I'm just nearing my second century so I've got plenty of time left ahead of me, but I've seen an entire generation of most shorter lived races come and go."

The smile on Geysers face falters slightly as he hears the news of their predicament, and he actually stops walking past Lucan. With a look of concern on his face he looks back at to Lucan. “Um, say what now? I’m not drunk anymore, there’s no need to make fun of me...but are you serious?” Seeing the look on his face that he was not joking in the slightest, Geyser took a step back. “Well godsdamn, that was not how I expected to start my morning.”

He shook his head and turned his attention to the small girl in front of him as he was being introduced and gave her a wave. She seemed very young to be joining them on a hunt to return home, but who was he to judge? As Lucan attempted to lecture him into being more responsible and how they needed to work together, Geyser couldn’t help but smile. ‘Sounds just like Pop, always trying to fit their wisdom into everyone else’s heads. Seems to be a good man as well, if a bit high strung...might be just what we need right now.’ Outwardly he just nodded and made to move towards the stairs as Lucan continued to talk with ‘Lexi,’ clearly being dismissed from the conversation. As he walked downstairs he found Jon, and gave him a nod before heading over to the barkeep. “Good morning! What have you guys got for breakfast today?”

Taking the offered pillow Reyeara attempted to make herself a bit more comfortable -- even a worn out pillow was still better than nothing. As the candlelight went out, the dawn light still starting to slowly appear, Rey could hear Lexi furiously taking notes, and heard what the younger girl spoke into the room. Her face slightly hidden by her hair, Reyeara smiled before attempting to adjust herself to finally sleep.

-----

In the morning she woke, nose scrunched slightly as she felt something warm and fuzzy curled up with her -- tucked into her arms she found the weasel that had been with Lexi, still happily snoozing. "Seems like Friend isn't the only one who's forward when it comes to women..." she muttered as she sat up, sore from all the walking the group had done the day prior as well as sleeping on the floor. As she stretched she brought her arm over, checking the rune on her gauntlet, it was back to flickering slightly, meaning it was recharged.

Reyeara rubbed her eyes, running fingers through her hair in an attempt to deal with any tangles as she worked on waking up. She frowned slightly at how late it was -- having such an offset for sleeping was going to throw her off quite a bit for the day. Hearing some chatter outside the door she decided she should probably get up. Standing, after placing her rapiers back on her hips, she carried the weasel, not really sure if she should just leave it or bring it with her, and noticed the key in the lock ... but the lock was opened. She sighed, "Well, I suppose she somewhat understood what I was doing..." Pulling the key out, she took one last look around the room before opening the door and seeing Lucan speaking with Lexi.

She held out Mittens towards Lexi, "I believe this is yours -- think it decided I made a good bed at some point. Didn't intend to be last up, but I guess I was more worn out than I realized." Reyeara stretched one more time, "So ... I guess it'd probably be lunch about now, then see what this town looks like in the daylight?"

Lucan laughed and smiled, "Good morning Rey, glad you could join us. I heard you slept on the floor. In the future, why don't you take my bed. I can trace in a chair. Actually... I did trance in a chair. What a waste of coin." He thinks back to his bedroom in his home, a very large, comfortable pillow sits on the floor surrounded by candles and small trinkets from the past. It always appeared from the indentation in the pillow that he sat with his back to the door facing the shrine to Gadhelyn, but in fact he used to turn the pillow in the evening to face the door before beginning and turn it back to face the shrine before leaving for the day. Thinking back, Lucan had a moment of concern, did he remember to turn his pillow before they were whisked off to this dull domain? Shaking the though from his head, he smiled to Lexi, "With how short lived humans are, you'd think they might maximize their time by learning to trance as well. Unfortunately, many of them prefer their beauty sleep." Lucan chuckled, looking back to Rey with a grin to cover his sadness, as long as he'd known her she was probably one of his closer friends in the Gate, and he was genuinely concerned to know that he'd outlive her by centuries - a fact that rarely bothered him when thinking of others.

Reyeara smirked towards Lucan, "I was kind of surprised you'd gotten your own room, thought maybe you'd share with one of the other three." She flicked her hair as he mentioned beauty sleep, "Yes -- my beauty sleep in chainmail, obviously the only way to look this good."

Leaning against the wall she chuckled, "I think in the time it would take me to learn how to 'trance' I might as well just do other things. My teachers had a hard enough time getting me to sit still for lessons, and you'd want me to do it for a couple hours just casually?" She shrugged, "Sounds like something only old men would do. Us youngin's got things that need doin'." She slipped into less formal speak as the conversation shifted back to some of their more typical friendly jabbing back and forth.

Lexi eagerly took down notes as she was cross legged on the floor, her bag full of books at her side as she sat next to Lucan, but turned to look up as the blue man approached them. She blinked and was about to ask him about his unique pigmentation before Lucan jumped in and introduced him to her. She smiled warmly to him as Geyser waved to her and was about to ask him more about himself, but then Lucan continued. She flinched slightly at the swear, but smiled nervously to Lucan. "Oh, no it's alright... Master always taught me to avoid foul language because words spoken with intent spoken by the wrong person can have disastrous consequences. Also, they're not very nice words..." She fell silent as Lucan drew Geyser away for a moment and raised an eyebrow, but began to scribble down observations of the odd blue man before going back to taking notes about elves upon Lucan's return.

Lexi looked up as the door to Rey's room opened, and she beamed up at her. "Good morning Ms. Rey! Sorry if Mittens was intruding... He thought you looked uncomfortable and wanted to keep you company as thanks for being so good to me last night." Mittens squeaked and squirmed out of Rey's hands before leaping onto Lexi and nuzzling her. She hugged him for a moment before turning to Lucan as he addressed her. "While I think that would be incredible, I really doubt that human beings are capable of resting in the same manner that elves are, which I think is related to the hypervascular thalamus that elves possess. It helps keep their minds refreshed and active, even in an unconscious state. I've heard of an order of human monks that practice a certain form of meditation derived from elven trancing, but even they still need to sleep. Anyways, I think Ms. Rey looks great, sleep or no sleep." Lexi smiles to Rey before writing down the hypothesis on trancing she had just developed. Hmmm... I somehow doubt Lucan would be a fan of participating in any sort of biopsy... Oh well, I guess its a work in process. Lexi finally closed her notebook and stood up, smiling to her friends. "So whats the plan for the day, guys? Are we going to visit the Burgomaster? I'd love to see Ismark again. He was really nice."

Lucan chuckled at Rey, this levity was exactly what they needed in the wake of such chaos. "Fair enough, kid. You keep to your beauty sleep, and I'll stay sharp." He stood up, "I think Friend is the only one still asleep. We'll wake him then head down and round up the others. From there, yeah, we should head to the Burgomaster's. You should introduce us to Ismark if you get the chance." Lucan walked over to Kore's door and knocked. "Kore, if you don't get up I'll have the little wizard splash you with cold water." He turned to the ladies with a smirk, "Lexi, can you do water? Cold water? How do you feel about giving Friend a taste of his own medicine?" Lucan removed a small leather pouch from his pocket and began untying the leather strap.

Lexi frowned for a moment and pulled out a small notebook from a cord around her neck and began to furiously flip through it. She looked back up to Lucan and gave him a sad smile. “Sorry, not a whole lot I can do that wouldn’t end up leaving quite the mark. I’m afraid that controlling the output of power is a bit of a weakness of mine... Master preferred to teach his arcane theorem before we got to more practical spells, which would have been fine if he had been able to teach me for as long as he had planned, but right now I feel a bit... unprepared.”

There was a thud against the door as if something slightly plush was thrown against it then a grumbling and creak of the bed. Boots sounding as Kore rubbed his face making his way to the door. Opening it to the hallway to see Lucan i n immediate view. Kore was a bit deshevaled with laces undone, hair a little mussed and in his face, and leather vest and shield slung over his shoulder .

“Guess it wasn’t a dream was it old man. If it’s before noon we may have words.” Kore quickly slipped from orc to common upon seeing the ladies in the hall. Giving them a grin as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the door frame. “Good Morning Ladies” He then gave a quick salute before running his fingers through his hair and returning his gaze back to Lucan.

“Things as wrong as they feel Lucan? Cause they feel like we are going to need to start the day with more than just tea.” Pressing off the doorframe he pulls on his vest and starts buckling the leather armor as he walks with Lucan down the hall.

Lucan smiled at Lexi as the pillow hit the door. "It's alright, we didn't need it this time. Next time we'll just use a waterskin or a bucket or something." He chuckled lightheartedly as he tied his thieves' tools back into a bundle and stowed them as the door opened.

When Kore spoke, Lucan winced slightly, he'd never known Kore to be a morning person, but who is when all the fights take place at night? "It's well after midday, though I'm not quite sure of the time. The innkeep, Sorvia, said it was five while I was speaking with her, so it's definitely past noon, maybe even one now. Things are indeed quite wrong with this place. We're the only visitors or travellers I've seen and the town seemed so dead last night. Coupled with some of the disturbing knowledge I've gathered from the locals, we're... up shit creek without a paddle, as they say. That being the case, I'd advise you keep your wits about you and stick to tea until we know more. Lets get the others and I'll explain all I know on the way to the town figurehead, a man they call 'Burgomaster'." Lucan was slightly tense as he joined Kore down the hall, all this unknown concerned him. Magic is one thing, but different worlds with different rules... The way that elf hid, could his ears be a problem like Lexi's horns, Kore's tusks, or Geyser's moist appearance?

Blood of the Vine Inn:

Heading down to the main room Arik is at the counter, slowly cleaning what appears to be a small stack of dirtied dishes, bowls and glasses. He slides a pitcher of cold water and a glass over to Jon before turning to Geyser with a distant stare. "Porridge, three rat-tooths," he says at the inquiry of breakfast foods, pointing over to a medium-sized pot closer to his side of the counter. It looks like it's been sitting out there for a while. While he waits he continues to clean dishes right in front of the bar patrons, keeping a meticulous and consistent speed.

This late into the morning there's a couple scattered individuals eating vegetable stew and chunks of sourdough bread, minding their own business as they slowly chip away at their lunch. Near the entrance a middle-aged woman dressed similarly to Sorvia leans against the doorway arguing with a meek young man, standing next to a few open crates stacked atop a table. "You're three days late, you know that? I could make my own wine at the pace you've been keeping." The man frowns in response and scratches the back of his head, fidgeting a bit. "S-sorry ma'am... we're trying our best."

Near the entrance to the hallway a third slightly similarly dressed woman (though it seems like she's stitched it up with more flourishes and patterns) lounges at her own table, half-eaten food and miscellaneous supplies strewn about. She leans back in her chair, idly passing the time with some needlework. She notes the new arrivals that she didn't recognize but nonchalantly shrugs it off, continuing to work on her project.

Church:

Donovan is near the altar of the dilapidated chapel as usual, a batch of candles freshly lit around the room as the ones from the morning have mostly melted down to soft puddles of wax in their jars. "And as always my Lord, I pray that you see my wayward son back home safely... I am sure he will return when your wondrous grace touches his soul..." It takes a few moments for him to realize that Faria had entered the room, and he quickly lowers his voice so as to not intrude on her own prayer.

He continues silently for a time until Faria approaches him, slowly sitting back on the pews from his kneeling position. "...Good day to you, my child of faith. Do you require something?" Glancing over there is a small handwoven basket next to his seat, a small loaf of bread sticking out from the cloth covering. A couple of bites have been taken out of it, at least.

Lexi smiled to Kore, not taking any notice of his current appearance. “Good afternoon, Friend! Man, you guys sure do like to sleep in, huh?” Lexi giggled as she pulled out her notebook, casually sketching a few oddities she noticed about Kore’s half-orc physique as she followed after Lucan and Kore. She paused for a moment as they entered the main room before walking over to the bar, setting down her notebook, and staring over at Geyser, jotting down notes about his strange appearance.
