Fantasy Infinite Dawn.

Floor 1, container of the player's typical city within the popular virtual reality MMO. It was a suitable area for establishing a livelihood, with a large player hub of a market containing a variety of stalls that supplied materials, armor, tools, and the such. Adventurers constantly ventured out to explore new areas, and there always seemed to be more to see in the large spacious world, leading them all to believe that the other floors were just as vast. The monsters that spawned only seemed to get more and more vicious the further players strayed from the main city, but their loot drops and hidden treasures also grew much more valuable.

Players grew greedy for these powerful treasures, creating parties to venture into dungeons and caves together and splitting the end reward. And then there were others who preferred to adventure alone and keep the treasures to themselves. One of such, was the lone mercenary for hire, Chase "The Ace" Lancaster. Given the name only because he could be hired to fill nearly all combat situations, whether it be frontal vanguard and leading an assault against both AI or other players in the arena, or even for a solo mission to collect a bounty on a certain beastie. No matter the mission, he excelled. Not always flawlessly, mind you, but the job was always completed.

Chase arrived at the front of a merchant's weapon shop, this one being new to him since he was recently banned from entering his usual shop area. Attached to the left of his hip was two twin blades, on the exterior it was nothing special but they had abilities that made him sure that these weapons were never something he would barter away. Over his shoulders was a pitch black tattered cloak, seemingly two-dimensional as the shade hardly reflected any light. Quite mysterious he was, but hopefully the shopkeeper would be willing to service him properly and without question.

Chase opened the door to the shop, a bell at the door chiming to announce his entry. The door's opening was stopped midway, Chase looking up at the bell with a suspicious eye. It was typical of him, people of his occupation were often wary of opening doors and walking walls because of traps that could be set; something like this bell in a dungeon could have been the signal for a guard hound to strike the intruder. The male sighed and dropped his guard, knowing that he was now within the city limits and any harm that should befall him would be minimal. He approached the desk and was looking for the shopkeeper or someone who works the counter, but she was missing. He tapped his knuckled against the counter three times, simulating a knock to try and get the attention of anyone who worked here. "Hey, anyone home. I picked up a weapon earlier and was hoping to get it appraised here, since this is a sword-based shop and all."

The male swiped his hand up beside him, dragging his hand down in the universal motion of opening up his menu. Scrolling to the weapon's section, he tapped on a weapon with a "???" as the name. This signature was often given to weapons that were of unique value, like abilities that the user has never seen before, or held some sort of historic value. Seeing as how the weapon had spawned in a dungeon that had no extreme value on it, he assumed the former. His own appraisal skills were not high enough to identify the weapon on his own since he had invested most of his stats into attack, dexterity, and agility. The weapon began to pixelate in the air in front of him and above the desk, forming into a large two-handed broadsword that took up a majority of the blade's surface. It had a long handle, and an even longer blade that grew to at least a meter and half in length, and the width of the blade being about a foot wide. It was a typical buster blade, perfect for heavy barbarian classes but not for his subclass. The broadsword family of blades was typically heavy, bulky, and slow; unlike Chase's preference of agile and precise strikes. However, aside from the shape of the blade, the rest of the weapon was unknown. It was wrapped in thick brown cloth that was kept together in thin rope, maintaining the weapon's high quality for either sale or presentation on a wall.

Chase waited to be served, having enough time for a bit of a wait if the keeper was tending to another customer in a back. What had gotten him banned from the last store was his impatience, and venturing deeper into the keeper's dwellings to find the said keeper. Chase was a usual at the store, often stopping by for appraisals or to sell items. It didn't give him the authority to snoop around another player's restricted area, and he knew why. The shopkeeper was "assisting" a female adventurer remove the battered armor that refused to come off for repairs. Chase soon learned that privacy was kept in dwellings for a reason..

That being said, Chase leaned back against the counter of the shop, hoping this one wasn't one of the few that caught word of his snooping and refused to help him. A merc with a smear like this on his reputation, what a situation. His arms were crossed over his chest, right hand tapping his left bicep; teeth bit at the left corner of his lip, and his eyes wandering to gaze at the shown wares this specific shopkeeper kept out for display. His back was turned towards the door leading to where the shopkeeper and her current customer was at, but Chase wasn't worried; his perception skills should be high enough to hear them approaching from behind.

Kuvo followed Mitsumi outside the city past most of the monsters. He usually had no trouble walking through this area as most of the monsters recognized his level. A few of them wandered towards the pair, but Kuvo usually took them out with a few energy strikes. he didn't even need to use anything beyond his basic attacks with them. "So are we just going to find an open area then?"

@Shog

Mitsumi Asuna

"Nah. I know a better place" She kept walking until she reached a nice clear area with a waterfall near it. "I love the scenery here." She opened her inventory, summoning a sword and tossing it over to Kuvo "There ya go." She proceeded to close her inventory and unsheathed her sword. "Whenever you're ready, Attack."

Kuvo almost caught the sword by the hilt, but it bounced out of his grasp. He fumbled for a couple of moments before regaining his composure. He quickly confirmed that it was just an ordinary iron sword. He tested it out with a few swings in the air to get a feel for it. He then faced Mitsumi. He tried to remember what he had been taught originally, but all he could seem to remember was basic footwork. He would rather start blasting her with magic, but knew this was an important skill to know. He took a couple of steps towards her and quickly lunged forward, sword facing her chest.

@Shog

Mitsumi Asuna

She quickly dodged to the right, kicking him away towards a tree.

"First Lesson. Be unpredictable. Don't give hints on where you're going to strike."

She quickly ran over to him, sword in both hands ready to strike him.

Kuvo quickly recovered and turned back to face Mitsumi again. As she charged him, it took some willpower not to create a shield to block her. He already had several thoughts ingrained into his head being a mage. He knew he couldn't reliably parry her blade, he knew his place was safely out of reach from melee attacks. That said, knowing some melee combat would be beneficial in the long run. He couldn't help himself and backed up a bit. With no where nearby to dodge behind, he held the sword up, ready to try and deflect her attack. At least she wouldn't try and kill him... probably.

"Or.. not." Chase muttered under his breath, having waited a little over ten minutes for someone to come to the desk. His patience had grown rather short, and he hoped he would have better luck elsewhere. He tapped the sword that was across the table, watching it pixelate just as fast as it had appeared. There was a light chime when it returned to his inventory, the notification that he had picked up an item. He gave the store another look, feeling that it was too bad that no one was currently attending it. Chase made his way to the door, ignoring the ringing of the bell, and heading out towards the area outside of the city.

Once the mercenary made his way to the outside of the city, he gave it a quick glance around to catch a glimpse of any other players who were out here. There were two sparring, but he gave them little mind, seeing as how the spawning AI creatures were also paying them little heed. Instead, Chase walked the path opposite of the two to trek even further from where they were. He would gain little experience fighting against these lesser creatures, heading further to try and catch some of the more higher spawns that appeared even further from the city.

@Shog @Yuuki Kagami (Simply for the mention)

@NemoTheSurvivor (Since you're a traveling merchant, I figure a moment like this would be a chance for you to make an entry)

She ran up to him, and slashed down on him, hitting his sword. A shadow fell over her face, and he could see an evil glare as a ghost version of Kyuutaro appeared where it once was and slashed the same way the sword went, hitting the sword of Kuvo once again. The ghost version quickly disappeared as a gust of wind passed by them.

The sun sat high in the sky, with not a cloud in sight. Wanda loved days like this. It meant people were out enjoying the day, and every one of them a potential customer. "Where to today?" the traveling merchant wondered to herself. "Hopefully I'll stumble upon another group going into higher level dungeons." Wanda started walking through the forest, deciding to pass the waterfall that was nearby. As she neared the clearing, sounds of combat caught her ears. Two players, a mage and a warrior, fought with swords next to the waterfall. Wanda wondered if it would be worth it to see if they could use some extra potions, but another player caught her attention, walking between her and the dueling players.

The mysterious man wore a full set of shadowed armor, complete with a cowl and hood. Even though she could not see his face, Wanda recognized him, though he wasn't one of her regular customers. She hurried to catch up with the man, yelling out, "Excuse me! Sir! Care to stock up on supplies?"

Chase continued on his path, hoping to find a small dungeon that wasn't already being looted by a raid party. It was going to be quite the trek, seeing as how most of the treasures were found by other treasure hunters, so the remaining ones were at the floor's border. After that, they did have the floor boss to advance; even that was a dungeon he would warily face on his own. The simple thought of losing all his progress in the game, let alone a chance at reality, rose the goosebumps along his back.

His left hand was already placed along the hilt of one of the swords clipped to his hip, readily prepared to attack any other player that attempted to ambush him. Another player that would willingly approach the mercenary however, were either hoping for a death wish, an attempt to hire, a wandering merchant was quite new. Not many had any deals that interested him, and their prices were much steeper than the stores offering consumables within the city. He turned to face the merchant, brows raised in curiosity, and hand prepared to draw his weapon for an attack. His right hand went up to his mask, pulling the cloth down to properly speak to the newcomer. "I don't think so. I've got a steady amount of health potions, and I hardly ever use mana. Food is something I can scavenge from the creatures." He wouldn't admit it, but most of the consumable drops he got from killing the spawnables were standard at best; and he was quite tired of the usual hog hinds and wolf chops he picked up. "Anything unusual or unique that might interest a.." His reputation as a mercenary was also quite a negative factor, since not many would associate with one. Instead, he attempted a cover up; one that was not a complete lie, but was not the occupation he practiced. "a.. treasure hunter?"

@NemoTheSurvivor

Rejection stopped hurting a while ago. At least, that's the lie Wanda kept telling herself. "I don't make a habit of keeping valuables to myself," Wanda said, seeing the man reach for his weapon. "Sorry to–" She paused mid sentence, suddenly recognizing the man. "Aren't that mercenary guy? Snake eyes? Ace? Eight Ball?" Wanda shook her head, not able to recall the man's name, though she knew his reputation from other adventurers. "Anyway, since you are constantly going into the worst of places, I can give you a discount." Wanda started to count in her head, her fingers moving imaginary numbers. "Standard town pricing, with a discount if you buy in bulk." Wanda shrugged. "Maybe we could even set up a consignment? You must come across a lot of valuable things in your travels, and I happen to have a way with words." Wanda snapped her fingers. "I'll even throw in appraisals, free of charge. What do you say?"

Chase released the cloth covering his mouth, trying to cover up the movement of his jaw as he ground his teeth together. His reputation was known, and hopefully didn't ruin any deals he might have just made. "Ace, at least that's the alias I keep during work. But Chase Lancaster, if you plan to make a long term deal then might as well." Although he did not exactly say the words of agreement, the way he sounded and introduced himself could only work in her favor. What he was really interested in was the free appraisals, it was almost like she had been following him around the city for what he required.

"Perhaps we could negotiate something, then. It's not often I need to restock, but I do pick up a few things here and there that I hardly ever need to keep on me." Of course, he could always consider bank space when storing items; his bank space was reserved for his most prized treasures. Currently, it was near empty, but there were a few things of value. As he spoke Chase opened up his inventory, his gaze never went to the screen as proof that the act was nearly instinct by now. The heavy blade began to form in his left hand, tip down to dig into the dirt beside him. The brown cloth covered most of the exterior design of the blade, but the general shape showed that it was of the buster blade family (a broadsword). "Appraise this, and whatever spare treasures that I have little interest of are all yours. As long as what I do plan to keep in the future can be appraised free of charge, and I can maintain a steady price for any materials I need." In his eyes, it was a win-win situation for the both of them. Money was never a big problem for him, so most loot he finds are considered trash or treasure to him. Giving her the opportunity to gain more inventory, he hoped it was enough for her.

If she decides to agree to his proposal, the weapon when first identified is labeled as "???". It was a common signature for armor and weapons with unique abilities, or historical value. There was the slim chance they were cursed weaponry, a tool that had magnificent stats but came with a major drawback, but he doubted so because of the fact that it was so early into the game. However, he was not the one appraising, so only she could tell.

@NemoTheSurvivor (I'll leave the item's details for you to make up)

Kuvo recoiled in shock. He had heard of such power existing, but never seen it before. He took a step couple of steps forward and then quickly launched himself in another direction. He swung his sword, hoping to get her side.

@Yuuki Kagami (sorry for the short post)

Wanda took the unknown item. "Sounds like we have a deal," she said. Using her appraisal skill, she determined the weapon was a two-sided broadsword. "Fancy name," Wanda said, further examining the item. "General's Beacon. Unique ability is–huh." Wanda turned the blade over, grinning. "It glows in the dark, brighter than a torch. Guess that's where the name comes from. Stat boosts are standard for unique items, noticeably above average." She furrowed her brow as she looked over the stats. "It buffs defense, but not attack. Instead, there's a magic boost." Wanda handed the sword back to Ace. "Quite the find, though it might be a hard sell. Still, the glowing is a nice touch, and the defense is nothing to laugh at."

(It's fine. It happens)

Mitsumi Asuna

The sword connected a red slash mark appeared on her left side. She glared towards him, shadow still over her face.

She didn't have her usual happy mood. She Held her sword in both hands as it gained an icy aura around it. She once again and went to swing Kyuutaro at him again, the ghost Kyuutaro following swiftly behind.

Chase grimaced at the weapon's description, not quite finding it as appealing as he had hoped. His decision was biased, simply because he preferred quicker weapons that focused on precision and speed rather than pure power like heavy gear. It was to be expected, but the fact that it raised defense over attack was another chopping point. The weapon's name was changed from the earlier ??? to what she stated, General's Beacon. The weapon was sent to his inventory, as was regular procedure after an appraisal.

"It would make a better sign post, than a weapon then. A glowing blade hanging with your name etched into it, no?" Chase's lips curled into a wry smile, trying to make the best of the situation. He took note of her saying it was a hard sell, but it would not be a problem in account of their agreement. "Well, it is a treasure I have no use of. I guess that means that the sword is yours." From his inventory bar, he swiped the weapon into a different tab to send it to her inventory when a realization came to him. "By the way, I never got a name for my new business partner." He stated, a fatal flaw in his introduction being that he had no information on her but she had his name.

"Wanda," the merchant said, "of the Red Scarf Trading Company. Now, to find someone to sell this sword to. Maybe that mage who was sword fighting the warrior. You know what, it doesn't hurt to ask. Want to tag along? You'll get your cut sooner." Wanda turned around with a grin before walking back towards the dueling players. As she moved towards them, she noticed the tone of the scene had changed as a chill pierced the air. "What's going on?" Wanda wondered aloud. "Wasn't the sun just shining a second ago?"

"It'd be my pleasure." Chase responded, a mock bow before releasing the grip he had on his mask. It slid back over his face to cover everything from the nose down, the only distinguishable physical features now only being his eyes. His response was both to her introduction and her question to tag along.

His eyes then darted around the area, seeing the darkness begin to wrap around the field. "That.. it was." Chase agreed that it had been bright just a few moments ago, seeing as how he had wanted to venture out while it was bright. "And I swear we weren't trying to finalize a deal for very long." Icy steam being exhaled through his mask whenever he spoke, as if to exaggerate the dark air. He drew his blades, the one in his right hand held in front of him, the blade in his left held to his left and along his forearm. This air was often the prelude of something worse to come, out in the further areas it was the sign of a public event, this was the closest he had ever encountered one thus far.

@NemoTheSurvivor

Kuvo's mind was spinning. Something certainly wasn't right here. Her attitude had changed greatly in just a few moments, and he didn't like it. Maybe the sword had altered her mindset some? regardless of the cause, he needed to deal with her now. He managed to deflect the first attack, but not the second. It cut deep into his right shoulder. Too deep for his likings. He jumped back a bit and held out his left hand. A semitransparent cyan shield appeared in front of him. It was a bit taller than he was and about three and a half people wide. "That's going a bit far, don't you think?" he shouted at her.

@Yuuki Kagami @AceOfSpades0210 @NemoTheSurvivor

Mitsumi Asuna

Her sword bounced off from the shield, flying off behind her.

"Huh? Why did you use magic?"

She seemed normal. No shadow was over her face and she had her normal look on her.

"Sometimes in battle you won't be able to use magic, and you'll have to rely on just your sword and your skills."

"Sorry if it hit you too hard. Kyuutaro has a passive ability to where it can strike once more via a ghost version of it appearing behind it and strike the enemy/object once more"

@Shog

'Surely this girl is bipolar,' Kuvo thought. He pulled down the shield, but didn't let his guard down. "You get downright scary when you fight, ya know. For a moment I was thinking that sword was messing with your mind." At this point he was definitely questioning her teaching methods. He was going to bring it up, but was distracted. He saw two onlookers out of the corner of his eye. "Anyway, it would appear as though we have an audience."

Mitsumi Asuna

"Really? I was only telling you on where I'd strike you so you'd know what to look for."

She seemed confused. "I'm not really an aggressive fighter."

She went to go pick up her sword.

"Could it be the illusion ability that the woman at the store told me Kyuutaro had?"

Wanda blinked. The scenery changed back to its normal sunny day. "I really hope I'm not going crazy," she mumbled. Wanda noticed the mage looking at her and yelled, "Excuse me! Care to top off on potions? Maybe you'll be interested in a special weapon I just came into possession of?"

@Shog @Yuuki Kagami

As the scenery returned to the brighter setting of daylight, Chase twirled the blades around him and had them flow back into their scabbards. "If you're going crazy, that means I am too." He again rested his left hand against his the hilt of one of his swords, his right hand hanging at his side rather lazily.

His eyes twitched slightly, unprepared for the traveling saleswoman to yell out to the two dueling. When she began to make her way to them he slowly followed behind her, remembering that he had agreed to follow her for his portion of the currency. His eyes were trained carefully on the female swordswoman, making sure that if she were to attempt something like she did in the duel with the mage that he would be prepared for a counter offensive.

@Shog @Yuuki Kagami @NemoTheSurvivor

"Well that's one messed up illusion," Kuvo replied. "You know, there's probably a way to toggle the enchantment. Maybe if you..." he was cut short as the other girl offered him potions. He would have gladly taken some if he hadn't refilled n the market earlier that day. "No thank you, I filled up this morning."

He noticed the other guy looked familiar. Some sort of mercenary or something. "Regardless, I use magic to avoid taking damage at all in close combat. My shields don't take much manna, usually giving me an opportunity to regain distance. If you're looking for another melee fighter, he may be interested in joining."
