If Anyone Cares...

yeah i remember this its not just manga fox. One piece posted a huge thing about how the creators of bleach, naruto, one piece, and a few others, do not appreciate scanlations of their top mangas.

The only problem is the fact their their fucking stupid to do it. Ive you read what most people reply as on one manga. They buy the mangas from the stores because they originally read scanlations Ho. What a concept. If they actually get rid of all scanlations i can guarantee you two things.

Their manga sales will go down. People dont like buying something they dont know they will enjoy reading.

Viz and all those others, just like they do now, will start posting scanlations themselves, for free, or for a price.

They just want to do it themselves. They do the same thing with anime, its only a matter of time before they do it with manga.

THIS IS AN INJUSTICE TO THE POOR, MANGA LOVING TEENAGER!

We should.... I dunno, start a petition to tell whoever doesn't like scanlations to piss off or something.

Man, i read a lot of manga online.... this could suck.

No, it's hard to make a stand against it. There's this thing called copyright laws and all scanlations violate that

Pyun, I learnt about this a couple of days ago... :(

As someone who buys a lot of manga, it's not a complete loss, but as Kaine said, reading scanlations gives you a good idea of what you like without buying random series wastefully or standing in bookshops flicking through them.

Also, if they start removing all scanlations, it'll be a real pain because most of these series haven't been released here yet! >T

It may be that they just want to pull series that have been licensed in the USA/English publishers.

I really hope that's it, but somehow I doubt they'd limit it to that, considering the Japanese publishers are involved. >3<

Not necessarily, the Japanese publishers may permit it for exactly the reason Kaine pointed out, so that oversees buyers can have an idea of what the manga is like before they buy it or waste their time.

Well, this sucks. :( A lot of the time, fan-translations are better than the actual ones! >3<

honestly i think its because major people like viz want the manga shares. Viz does naruto and bleach anime episodes now. So why wouldn't they want manga? however us americans get boned on stuff like one piece, because i dont see a company like funimation doing manga.

I guess we just wait and see. Either fanscans will disappear and paid to read ones will appear, or we will find new and better "underground" websites for our reading joy.

You think you guys got boned? The One Piece anime isn't even out here yet. :( But yeah, One Piece got raped by Viz.

Undergrounds scanning sites would rock, but the thing is that things like that don't stay underground for long...

Honestly. I think it would suck, I can't lie. However, look at it this way. As it's already been said, scanlations are illegal. I think they are better, though. I certainly prefer scanlations over official. I do what I can to buy official One Piece translations (Me and my sister have volumes 1-14 and 46-50...) But there's so many One Piece volumes. Right now it's just not an option for us.

But no matter if the current scanlation sites are gotten rid of or not. People will always want free manga to read. So if sites like Onmanga disappear, over time, there will be other sites. I just hope the official manga people or what not realize that people want to actually read manga before they invest. Anyway, it's not really something we can stop. Whatever happens, happens, I suppose.

I fully support both Piracy and the Conglomorate desire for maximum profit. I for one have never bought a manga for the exact reason that I can get it free online. That being the case if I ran a business and someone was getting my product free en masse, I would be peeved, not only is it a matter of loosing profits (which I participate in the loss there of) but in the whole principle of the matter, I imagine it is very similar to having someone steal pens from a workplace, a pen here and there isnt a major loss but when your loosing hundreds and hundreds of them it becomes a problem, furthermore it's kust darn irritable to know someones going around taking your pens and you cant do anything about it.

Also theres no reason to dream of some shadowy "underground" internet group making scanlations, you're putting far too little faith in the torrent community. I have every issue printed of Witchblade, Captain America, Y: The Last Man, Watchmen and Marvel Civil War (just to name a few) thanks to the torrent community. If you want to steal something bad enough you'll find a way,a nd if the product is in high demand for theft, some one will make it public.

So, It seems to be official for some Manga scanlation sites.

Onemanga has annouced this week that they will be closing at the end of next week, but it seems to be a choice thing...

They are respecting the artists' requests...

That and they don't want to get sued. There will be other places, but mangafox started taking things down when this first came up and now OM is surrendering. They're the big names, they pretty much have to if they don't want to face legal action and the only precipice they'd have to stand on is scanlating the things that aren't available in English yet

Once all the major sites are down, i give it a few months maybe even weeks before bleach/naruto so up on viz, and one piece shows up by funimation lol.

they know how big anime is, there is no way they wont expand into manga.
