Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

Hey, Caleb did hang out with Chris! Its just sparring wasn't on the table which well... Did take much of the fun out of it. But she got what Agravain ment. A soft laugh came from Caleb at Agravain's next words. Teasing. "Sweetheart. Whenever you walk in a room Chris looks like he wants to hide under the table. " Everyone could tell Chris was scared of Agravain. Not that much could be done about that. Caleb had tried to encourage her husband to be a little less... Scary. But she doubted that did much to help. She did look away as Agravain continued talking. Shifting. But she gave a small nod. "I wont fight anymore. I just.. " She had no excuse. It was reckless to fight now. But she did roll her eyes at the last part. Musing. "Oh, Believe me. I've a list. " She had a few people in mind that she wouldn't mind teaching a lesson to. But there were some she simply wished to spar with for the fun of it. Lance for example.

Her eyes seem to light up a bit though at the mention of quests. Excitement clear on her face. Yeah, She had not been on a quest before and certainly wished to go on such a adventure. The question was soon directed to her father though. The man seeming startled a bit. Before amusement showed on his face. "Some, I did enjoy my fair share of fights. " Caleb had to get it from somewhere. But Melodias then explained. "But I didn't do too much traveling out of my homeland. I didn't really want to go much further. " He'd been a single parent. Hadn't wanted to be gone from Caleb for too long.

Melodias then explained. "Truthfully I've never really went on a quest alone though. I always preferred working in groups. " Melodias enjoyed keeping the company of others. Perhaps working alone worked for some. But it was not the case for Melodias. He enjoyed companionship. Caleb then was piping up. Suggesting. "Why not speak to some of the senior knights? I'm sure there are quests you could go on if you wished. I've seen you fight and truthfully it... Seems kind of a waste for you not too. " Melodias was not that old afterall! But such caused a small laugh to come from him. Waving his hand. "My adventuring years are behind me. I'd much prefer to stay here and continuing bothering you both. " He said playfully. Before seeming thoughtful. Confessing. "But... I wouldn't mind dueling more often. " He enjoyed a good fight. That had never faded.

How was it Agravain‘s fault that Chris was scared of him? He hadn’t actually harmed Christopher so What did he have to be scared of? Besides all the threats. Agravain couldn’t exactly make Christopher feel more at home though, he was nice enough as it was. Caleb was promising not to fight but whether she’d stick to it, only time would tell. But he figured she couldn’t wait until she could fight again properly and there’d probably be sparring going on at all hours of the day.

Melodias had seemed to have had some adventures but closer to home than perhaps Agravain had. “Oh yes, we should definitely get you out of the house” Agravain joked. “im sure the senior knights would love the challenge, keep them on their toes” Agravain could talk to a few although he doubted Melodias would be shy. Melodias could duel Antonio, might give him a better insight into Lance if the two ever got round to fighting. But a lot of the senior Knights might be the ones on Agravain’s list, ones who had known his father and might align with him.

”and I’m sure you could be helpful training some of the other knights” he suggested. The squires and younger Knights could do with someone that had Melodias’ experience. ”theres no point letting you waste all that talent“ plus it might give him and Caleb some more alone time. ”I’d like to see you put a few of them in their place to be honest,” some had grown complacent and thought they were above others, and some had said bad things about Caleb as well. ”I’d like to duel more often too but it’d not fair when you can’t” Agravain said to Caleb, he’d agreed not to duel at The house and would only really do so if Caleb gave permission.

Melodias couldn't help but roll his eyes a bit at Agravain's comment. Yeah, He wasn't getting out of there hair anytime soon. Truly it was a good thing both Caleb and Agravain seemed to enjoy his company! Things might be real awkward if such wasn't the case. But Agravain did make a interesting proposal. Melodias grew up and trained in a different land. Had moves that might be more uncommon here. It would certainly give a new challenge to some of the more senior knights. Him helping train some of the younger knights was a interesting idea. Clearly he seemed willing to consider such.

Sadly Agravain wasn't going to be able to duel him, Atleast not at the house. Caleb didn't exactly want to see people fighting when she couldn't! It just made her long for battle more. She then was opening her mouth to speak. Faltering though when she heard the sound of the front door opening. And well, It didn't take long before a familiar man was opening the door. Seemed Chris had arrived, And honestly, Could he not knock? Sure, He came over all the time. But that was a bit rude!

The man had his head turned. Was speaking to someone and seeming not to be paying attention. "-ouldn't get that excited, Agravain's an *sshole. " He was saying. Only to freeze when he looked forward and well... He was certainly startled to see everyone just sitting in the living room. whoops. His face soon going a few shades paler. Awkwardly beginning. "....I uh... Didn't... Don't you guys normally eat breakfast about now? " He stumbled. But, Well, It seemed his company was not as worried. For soon enough a young man was waltzing in behind him. Looking around curiously before his gaze moved to Agravain and well, It was hard for him not to grin considering Chris's previous words. Lifting his hand and waving. "Hey. " Jerome began cheerfully. Clearly he didn't share any of Chris's fear.

Chris’ arrival was expected but perhaps a bit early, at least I meant they’d probably have more time to go searching for that cabin though! Except Chris might be nervous to be alone with Agravain after he realised he’d heard those words. Agravain was already glaring, even if he didn’t take particular offence, just because he knew it would unsettle Chris and he didn’t really want him to be comfortable. He had no quarrel with Jerome except for the fact that he didn’t really like people, still Jerome was on track to become the preferred friend already.

”why don’t we get breakfast before we get into anything?” Agravain suggested, “might stop Chris from saying anything else he might regret, hmm” since he’d be too busy eating. “Or we could take breakfast outside and get straight to it” Lance’s voice spoke up as he arrived on the scene. He figured if they ate outside whilst sparring also went on then it gave Caleb something to do besides just sit and watch wishing she could join in. “It’s a lovely day, why waste any of it inside?” Lance insisted. He also did have a date at lunch time so he’d rather get the ball rolling so he wasn’t late for Gavin and oh, he’d not actually spoken to Chris since yesterday, hopefully things were alright between them.

Lance had Galahad on his hip and an encouraging smile on his face. He’d heard the commotion with Caleb but he wasn’t going to bring it up. “Come, let’s not waste time” He said and went to usher them outside which Agravain grumbled about but didn’t think was a terrible idea. Gaheris by now had cleared off, probably good to sulk in his room or complain to Gareth. Agravain would seek him out later once they’d both cooled off. “I figured the first thing we should see is Chris versus Jerome” Lance said. “Jerome battled well yesterday, he’s got the makings of a talented knight, but Chris, as my unofficial protege, I expect you to win” Lance teased.

It was difficult for Chris not to squirm underneath Agravain's gaze. Averting his own. Breakfast, Chris wasn't sure if he wished to be stuck at a table with Agravain at the moment. Certain that the glaring would continue threw the meal. But then Chris heard Lance's voice and he visibly winced. Seemed yesterday still lingered in his mind. Caleb for the moment did not pick up on the tension. No doubt thinking Chris's nerves were simply from his fear of Agravain. Grinning. "Well, Aren't you eager? " She grinned, And well, It seemed they'd be eating outside. Maybe they could make bets on who they thought would win? Lance wasn't giving anyone much choice in the matter as he was hurrying to encourage them to head outside. Luckily Jerome seemed to match Lance's excitement. The small man was suddenly scurrying ahead to catch up to Lance. No doubt ready to begin.

Chris trailed behind much slower. Thoughts and fears catching up to him. He'd known Lance would seek to do training with them today. Thought he could ignore things. But thoughts were eating at him and he practically jumped when Lance addressed him. Frowning for a moment. He then told Lance. "I'm afraid not, My shoulders still messed up. " It was a excuse. But Chris's voice was firm. He didn't much want to encourage Lance's help. Because he knew what else Lance wanted to help him with. And it was all just... Overstepping far too much.

Jerome huffed a little at that. "Your shoulders not messed up, I saw y- " But Chris was soon cutting him off. Simply saying. "I'm not fighting today. " He didn't need to get into it further. He then decided to steer the topic away from himself. Saying. "How about you spar with Agravain if he's up for it? If I recall, You did say you wanted to punch him. " He explained and well, Jerome seemed willing to focus more on Agravain. Grinning. "Well, I mean... I wouldn't say no to punching him. " His tone playful, Seeming thrilled at the idea of sparring with Agravain. But well, Agravain was a famed knight! Nephew to the king, Many squires likely dreamed of such.

Lance got what he wanted, they were moving outside and he’d noticed the tension in Chris but he didn’t mention it, he was hoping him and Chris weren't going to linger on their fight and instead just move on but at the moment he wasn’t sure that’d be the case. Maybe they just needed a little more time? And Chris was claiming he needed time for his shoulder at least. Lance frowned at him, about to point out that a real fight would care little for injuries, that it might be a good idea to get used to battling whilst not in the best shape but Jerome was instead saying something interesting. It wasnt The shoulder stopping Chris and Lance looked at him critically but didn’t comment. Maybe Chris didn’t think it through too much though because no fighting meant he’d be on the sidelines with Lance, where they could have a little chat.

Jerome had his sights set on bigger fish anyway and Agravain raised an eyebrow at the conversation. He’d literally just been talking about how he didn’t spar at the house but they had guests and he had fought Chris the other day, Jerome deserved the same courtesy. ”are we using weapons or fists?” Agravain enquired. He was a big man, strong, a fist fight might be Harder to beat him in than a sword fight where the weapon helped slow him down and where his opponent would have a weapon capable of doing a lot of damage compared to their fists.

Agravain gave Caleb’s arm a quick squeeze before heading away from the group slightly, into a fighting space, expecting Jerome to join him. Of course that left Lance and Chris and Caleb alone, possibly Melodias if he’d decided to join them. “You don’t need to be nervous about fighting” Lance told Chris. “You did well the other day, and whilst Jerome does have talent, so do you” Lance wasn’t sure it was the lack of confident that was stopping Chris however he did know that Chris got annoyed at people thinking he wasn’t confident so he hoped that maybe irritating him might get him to spit out the reason. He had a feeling it might involve their fight though. “Your confidence will improve over time, but meanwhile you need to accept opportunities, allow it to grow. Plus, losing can grow your confidence too, it’s about getting used to it all”

Jerome seemed pleased when it seemed Agravain was willing to agree to a fight. Opening his mouth to answer, But Caleb soon cut in. "Weapons. We do need to see how well you fight with a sword. " Besides, She didn't think it was wise for anyone to challenge Agravain to a fist fight. That was just asking for trouble! Jerome was willing to listen though. Excitably following after Agravain. Which gave Caleb a chance to focus more on Chris and Lance. Which well, Looking between the two, Caleb could already tell Chris had a certain tension to him. Lance's words did little to ease things. If anything, Chris only looked more frustrated.

Then he was saying quietly. "Lance, Lets get one thing straight. I don't need your help. I did not ask for it. " And no, He wasn't just speaking about training. That was annoying yes. But he'd been willing to tolerate it for a bit. His words certainly caught Caleb's attention. Who moved closer and looked between the men. questioning. "Chris, Are you alright? " Drawing Chris's gaze. The man tensed a bit before huffing. "I'm fine, Lets just watch Jerome. " He encouraged. Before glancing up.

Seemed Jerome already had his sword prepared. Looking between Agravain and Jerome though... Chris suddenly found himself worried. Agravain was big, Had a temper as well. Jerome was still a squire and while he certainly had plenty of confidence... Well, Agravain could seriously hurt him. It was then Chris spotted Jerome launching forward. Attempting to swipe at Agravain and then bounce back. Chris wasn't surprised. Jerome seemed to like hit and run tactics. Likely wanted to test the waters before he went straight into the fight. Caleb seemed willing enough to focus on the fight as well. Studying the young man. "He's fast, But he keeps lifting his feet to high off the ground. He'll get tripped easily like that. " Caleb employed very similar tactics after all. Knew how to move and had experienced enough trial and error to know how to avoid getting knocked on the ground. Caleb then asked Chris. "He's one of the squires, Right? I recall seeing him around. He hasn't been training that long has he? " She had only seen the man a few times. Chris then shook his head. "No, I think he's only been training for about two years now? He was taken as a apprentice fairly late. " Which perhaps made things a bit more impressive. Two years of training and he'd actually managed to get a hit on Lance? He had potential.

Caleb was being sensible, unlike earlier. Weapons would maybe be less bloody than fists so it was a wise choice. It seemed Lance’s plan hadn’t worked and instead was trying to refute Lance’s help overall. A look of hurt crossed his face, he just wanted to help him and maybe he was annoyed as well that Chris wasn’t listening but he bit his tongue and didn’t continue it, maybe Chris would cool down after some time? Not to be rude, but Lance figured Chris could use the help in both aspects of his life but clearly that’s where the disagreement stemmed from anyway.

Jerome’s first move didn’t get him very far, Agravain brought his sword up to block it and then he watched Jerome for any tells before he himself moved forward with a hefty diagonal slash, quick to bring his sword back to him afterwards in order to try and block any moves Jerome might make. Well, as quick as Agravain was really capable of. Lance glanced at Caleb at her comment “too low and he might stumble” Lance murmured but he wasn’t disagreeing, Jerome would just have to find the balance. “What made Frederick take him on at such a late stage?” Lance asked with a frown, he guessed maybe he’d shown natural aptitude, he was clearly a quick learner but it was still unusual for someone, especially one set in their ways, to take on an older student like Jerome.

“I fought him yesterday” Lance told Caleb. “He’s good, even got a hit off on me, cheeky kid used my own move against me. I don’t think he’ll manage that as much with Agravain, they’ve got different fighting styles” unless of course Jerome adapted which could happen but his weapon wasn’t heavy enough, he imagined he didn’t have quite enough muscle for it. He didn’t just want to talk about the fight though. “I’m going to the castle later” he told them, well mostly Caleb, “just before lunch, I was thinking I could take Ruth with me, she said her Brother was going to be a knight. I don’t know whether that worked out for him seeing as they had to sell her in the first place but anyway, it doesn‘t hurt to try and look, I figured asking around at the castle is a good place to start” All those knights might know something, anything! “Maybe you wanted to come too, keep her company? I’ve got stuff to do so I can’t really keep an eye on her for too long. She’s not a little kid but I‘d feel better if I knew someone was looking out for her. Some of The knights can be real arseholes at times and I don’t know how they’ll treat a slave” he didn't have to tell Caleb that there were some bad seeds in the bunch.

Chris blinked at the question. Glancing to Lance and telling him. "Apparently Frederick passed threw his village and well, Jerome just started following him around demanding to be trained. Jerome told me he nagged him for a good six months. He's very good at being annoying when he wants to be. " Truthfully Jerome was lucky that Frederick hadn't hurt him or something! Not all knights were noble and some might not have taken kindly to Frederick's pestering. But atleast it showed a clear desire to fight. Six months was a long time to pester someone! Caleb couldn't help but grin at Lance's little comment. While Chris groaned. "He was boasting all night to the other squires about it. How he got a hit off on the famed Lance and was going to get to practice with the kings nephew. " Chris said. But that wasn't overly surprising. The young man had likely not grown up around nobility. Probable had only dreamed about this kind of thing.

Ruth's brother, Caleb was not sure how likely such was. But they had to try. Thus Caleb was nodding her head. Beginning. "Of course I'll be there. " Caleb could understand Lance not wanting to leave her alone. Some of the men at the castle were not good men and well... Maybe Caleb could also ask the king about freeing Ruth? The sooner she was out of Gaheris's control the better. Chris then was piping up. "Jerome might know him if he's at the castle. " They both where young men from poor families trying to become knights. Might be around the same age as well. Though such could be a bit of a longshot.

That wasn't a bad idea Caleb figured. Her gaze then moved towards Jerome and Agravain. The young man was busy dashing back to avoid Agravain's slash. Taking in the man. Before seeming to come up with a idea. He was lunging forward. Aiming to swipe at Agravain's legs. Before then aiming to move around him and slash at his back. Though Caleb doubted the man had much chance of getting all the way around Agravain. Getting close to Agravain was certainly a risky move.

If you didn’t ask, you didn’t get but apparently Jerome asked and asked and asked. Lance liked his panache though, persistence could be an asset. Lance really could see much of himself in Jerome with the confidence and the talking, yeah, he liked the kid so far. He might even be the key to finding Ruth’s family. Lance didn’t have a lot of hope in that area really, there were a lot of people in the world and Ruth didn't even seem to remember much about her homeland, plus they’d had to sell her, or at least she claimed that was the case, Lance worried maybe they’d wanted to, that her family had barely thought about her since. It might be nice to find her family but they might not be happy to see her so he was a bit hesitant about it but it’s what Ruth seemed to want, might as well try even if the chances were slim. ”thanks. We’ll ask him once Agravain’s had enough of him”

Agravain watched Jerome back, he went to move back a little as he swiped at his legs and moved his sword to intercept Jerome’s path which could be bad for Jerome if he didn’t stop in time, too caught in his momentum though. Agravain was going to help out though, reaching a hand to grab Jerome’s hair and yank him back though, sticking a leg out in the hopes of tripping him up as he want him to stumble back. Jerome was in trouble if he got on the ground but he was quick, he could recover if he was good. Agravain wasn’t trying to kill him so that was good, gave him a better chance.

“Might be soon” Lance commented. “Agravain needs more practice but I have to admit he’s good at not dragging out fights” no, Agravain could end them swiftly with the sort of blows he could deliver. “Personally I like a long duel, it’s like a way of communication” he murmured. “Some of my best conversations have actually been duels and fights” he said. “ive Had a few flirty fights too” he admitted. “oh there was this one girl….” Lance trailed off in memory, a grin on his face. “Okay, I never claimed to have sensible taste but oh, she could fight. Not like us, not like a knight, something more raw, primal. Very hot” he assured them.

Lance was right, Agravain was someone who did not let things last long. Though his next words caused Caleb a soft laugh. Of course he'd enjoy such a thing. Teasingly saying. "Of course you'd want a woman that could kick your *ss. " She mused playfully. Before her gaze moved to Agravain. Admiring him for a moment as she expressed. "I suppose I can't judge to much. " Agravain wasn't exactly the friendliest of people. But Caleb loved him, And putting him back in his place was always a joy. Her thoughts then moved to Chris. Reminded of his little crush. Did he even recall telling her? She considered bringing it back up. But well... Best to wait until they were somewhere more private. They didn't want to risk anymore people finding out.

Besides, Agravain and Jerome would likely be rejoining them soon enough. Because well, Agravain's move worked. When Jerome went to try and move away as to dodge the slice. Well, He was soon on his back. Wincing from the feeling of his hair being yanked. Staring up at Agravain with wide startled eyes. But soon the surprise was fading and Jerome was quickly sitting up. "Can we go again!? " Well, Atleast he wasn't upset! Chris was though approaching the two. Most likely to double check and make sure his companion was alright. Teasing. "Are you really that eager for Agravain to knock you back down? " Stopping at Jerome's side and helping him up.

Caleb also seemed to decide to trail closer. Looking Jerome over before saying. "You did good. Especially for how little training you've had. " Caleb, Chris, Agravain, And Lance had the benefit of all being trained since they were small. Caleb imagined in a couple years he could certainly be a difficult opponent. Jerome though blushed a little at the compliment. Seeming to enjoy the slight praise. Expressing. "I'm not that inexperienced. I mean yeah, I only started sword play when Sir. Frederick took me on as a apprentice. But I got into plenty of scraps when I was younger. " He attempted to explain.

Caleb 100% could not judge Lance for liking someone who was a good opponent, she’d started her relationship with Agravain after all by duelling him, after she’d already punched him as well. She was lucky that Agravain had ended up kissing her rather than killing her. Jerome was also lucky that Agravain hadn’t cut him up too bad, some aching hair roots was better than missing an arm or something. And Jerome was very quick to bounce back as well, it was quite amusing and Lance found himself smiling at Jerome’s eagerness.

Lance watched everyone drift closer but stayed seated himself, Galahad was on his lap after all, his little face smooshed into Lance’s chest. He didn’t want to disturb him and he knew he hadn’t been the biggest fan of swords and knights but Lance couldn’t just leave him on his own! “Maybe they should’ve used fists then“ Lance joked, if Jerome was used to getting into fights then it might’ve been good, but no someone would’ve ended up with missing teeth. ”where’d you grow up?” Lance asked Jerome curiously. ”and why were you always getting into fights?” Lance had been mischievous but he hadn’t particularly gotten into fights, done more sneaking off than anything else, going places he shouldn’t be and adventuring, not brawling.

Agravain gave Jerome a quick clap on the shoulder before moving past him to go sit down and have a drink, it had been short but not terrible, of course there hadn’t really been any blood drawn but Jerome had alright form, plus he hadn’t managed to annoy him so far so that was good. Things were civil at the moment, a stark change to earlier, even if Lance and Agravain were near each other, it seemed they could behave for the moment in front of Caleb. “We do have a question actually, I wonder if you know someone we‘re looking for. A friend is looking for her brother, said he wanted to become s knight. Maybe someone should grab Ruth so she can explain?” She would know more details than him, anything she said might help.

Jerome was soon grinning at the suggestion. Though Jerome probable would have struggled to handle Agravain in a fist fight. The man was huge afterall! Jerome then blinked at the question. Soon saying. "A little farm in a village in the middle of no where. " He spoke with a roll of the eyes. Seemed he had no intentions of returning. He then looked a little embarrassed at the next question. Answering. "I uh, Was pretty mouthy as a kid. It tended to get me in a lot of trouble. " Jerome had not had much of a filter, Didn't really have much of one now. But he was a bit better. Not as angry as he had once been. But that wasn't the only thing. "I also needed to be a knight. But I didn't know how. So I just... Figured fighting was the best way to start. "

Jerome's look soon changed to one of confusion then bewilderment at Lance's next words. Going very still. Caleb of course frowned at his reaction and glanced behind herself as to ensure the man had not see some sort of ghost or something. But no, There was nothing behind her. Jerome then spoke questioningly quietly. "....You have Roo?" And well, Things went a bit quiet as he stared at Lance. Studying him with that same bewilderment.

Caleb found her own confusion at his words. But well, She didn't waste anytime. Looking to Lance. She then murmured. "I'll go get her. " With that she was heading off. Going inside and leaving them behind. Jerome of course made a step to follow after her. But he was interrupted by Chris clarifying. "You know her? " Causing Jerome to glance at him. Murmuring a quiet. "...Maybe? " He hadn't exactly seen Ruth yet. Likely didn't want to get hopes he clearly held up.

Jerome really did come from off the map, Lance could relate somewhat, not a lot of knights would know of his own childhood home but Chris truly had been lucky then to get himself under the tutelage of a knight. And of course there were many reasons people felt they needed and wanted such: money, status, to defend and protect, to make their family proud, or….to find a long lost sister perhaps? Lance frowned at Jerome at the sudden change in attitude, the pet name. Surely not? What were the chances? Lance gripped Galahad, trying to keep him in place as he stood up, eyes narrowed slightly. This could either go well or badly. Obviously he hoped for the former but the pragmatist in him expected the latter.

Even if Jerome was her brother, it wouldn’t necessarily mean happy endings. Ruth had been through a lot, and that was just what Lance had pieced together, who knew the full extent of her abuse and trauma, they weren’t the same people they used to be, and Ruth was also still a slave, Gaheris’ slave to be exact and that could spell major trouble. It’s not that he thought Jerome shouldn’t be told what Gaheris was like as such if he was her brother, he just wasn’t sure how it was going to go if he was. He might try to fight Gaheris, shout at him, which wasn’t uncalled for but could be vicious And violent. They wouldn’t want a happy moment to turn bloody. And above all, Lance wanted to protect Ruth, he felt defensive of her, he’d looked after her the whole way here and he wanted things to work out for her, Jerome might not give her the answers she wanted, even if he was her brother in the end. Lance wanted to give him some sort of warning not to break her heart but well, he wasn’t her big brother and it felt almost silly to say, still he couldn’t help the protective urge in himself.

Agravain too was frowning but instead decided to remain seated, he’d like to see how this played out. He didn’t have much personal stake in it but he liked Ruth well enough, she appreciated His taste in women and he knew his brother was a pain to her. “Roo?” Agravain asked with an arched eyebrow. “Even if you don’t know her, she’s alright” Agravain said which was honestly high praise from her. “Got an attitude, but in a good way” oh he could tell, he’d seen the way she talked to Lance, heard a few knights that had come back mention her as well in conversation

It was understandable why Lance was protective. Things could easily sour. But it seemed for now they just needed to wait and see. Jerome's attention soon was turning towards Agravain at his words. Seeming to calm down a bit at them. Luckily, It did not take long before Jerome was to find out himself. Because Ruth was soon exiting the house. Caleb right behind her. But it seemed Caleb had not explained the situation because Ruth's eyes were on Lance. Beginning. "Caleb said you nee- " But she was cut off by Jerome speaking. His voice practically a squeak. "Ruth? " Attempting to draw her attention. And well, Finally she glanced at him. Clearly confused.

It wasn't a instant recognition. They hadn't seen each other in years. Ruth certainly did not understand at first. But well, Eventually it clicked. "...Romey? " Well, It seemed things were soon enough confirmed. Jerome clearly didn't know what to say. But he gave a small nod. That was enough of a confirmation. Because Ruth practically launched herself at Jerome. Who still seeming startled wrapped his arms around her and well, She was in tears. This did not mean things were over though. As much as Ruth might think they were. Because Gaheris still held control over her and he could very much be a spiteful man.

Jerome then was pulling a bit away as to get a better look at Ruth. Murmuring quietly. "You're... I found you...." He trailed off though. Still seeming bewildered. Ruth then was tearfully squeaking. "You... You survived. The healer fixed you? " Ruth had claimed before the reason she was sold was due to a siblings sickness. Jerome then told quietly. "Yes... But t-..." Whatever he was going to say he seemed to think better of it. Shaking his head. He then was about to keep talking. Except he was being cut off. Ruth was then saying. "Thank god, Does this... We... I missed you, I feared it hadn't worked... I missed mom and dad and the others too. I... Are the others near town? Do.. Does this mean I can go home? " She was saying. Desperation clear in her tone.

So he was her brother, Lance almost couldn’t believe it, partially because he had a bad feeling about it all. It must be overwhelming and she must have loads of questions but Lance caught the fact that Jerome didn’t say everything he thought. What had he been going to say? And oh, Ruth was asking about home. Did her parents even want her back? He’d like to hope so but would they be able to get past the fact that they sold her. “Ruth slow down” Lance said gently. “its a lot, I’m glad we found your brother but I’m sure much has happened since you’ve been gone, more than a single conversation can explain” Jerome might not know where to start and maybe she should wait for him to contact the rest of her family, assuming they wanted to know or that they were even still alive. A bit of a grim thought but again, anything could’ve happened.

”plus…Gaheris” he added quietly. He supposed there wasn’t much to stop Ruth from running off with her brother except if Gaheris caught back up to her then his mistreatment of her would be seen as more justified and you know, laws and stuff. Agravain glanced at Caleb, maybe they should mention about trying to get her out of Gaheris’ possession, except he didn’t want to get her hopes up for Alexander to deny them. Who even knew if they’d be able to get an audience with him at the moment. Agravain thought maybe they should leave though, give them some privacy although Lance seemed a bit less willing to do so. Maybe he just didn’t want to lose his friend so soon.

Lance Wanted her to escape her life of slavery, and she seemed….sad despite it all, desperate to know about her family and her freedom. ”I’d like to know more about your family too though“ Lance said, whether he could trust them, but knowledge was a two way street and he wasn’t sure Ruth would be so willing to share her experiences. He’d not heard it all, just snippets, most of them given away by other people such as Evie or Merlin.

Ruth's attention was pulled away from her sibling when she heard Lance's voice. Glancing towards him. Tears still showed on her face and she sniffled. Reaching up to wipe her eyes. "But..." She started. Except Lance was then reminding her about Gaheris. That was still a problem. He wasn't going to easily let her go. He was a spiteful man and would fight to keep her under his control. She doubt he'd ever allow her brother to take her. But they could run off! Except that might be easier said then done. "I... " But Lance was then mentioning her family and Ruth soon looked toward her brother. Because he likely had more answers then her.

Ruth then said. "I remember the farm, Is... How are they? " Ruth's memories were not the most vivid. She had some of course. Ones she clung too. But they were not the most vivid over all these years. Jerome seemed uncomfortable at the question. Saying gently. "Maybe we should find somewhere quieter. " Because he did not much like all the prying eyes. Luckily Caleb was there to help with that. Urging. "Ruth has a room upstairs. How about you talk up there? " She figured that it would give them some privacy. Jerome seemed thankful for such, Giving Caleb a small nod.

Ruth didn't like this, Didn't like his tone. The news should be happy, Something that one would have no problem sharing. But Jerome's words left a sinking feeling in her stomach. Something was wrong. Ruth then found herself glancing towards Lance. As much as Lance cared for Ruth. The feeling was very much shared. He had been a source of safety for a while now, Such hadn't changed. So she then asked Jerome. "Is... Is it okay if Lance joins us? " She wasn't sure what to expect. Jerome only hesitated for a moment. Before nodding. "Of course. "

So it wasn’t just Lance that had a bad feeling? It didn’t spell good news and Lance wanted someone to be there for her when it broke. Privacy was a good idea but Lance worried her brother might not be comforting enough, sure they were family but...were they really familiar? It had been years since they’d seen each other whereas Lance had spent a lot of time with her recently. Ruth was wanting him to come along though which made him breathe a little easier. He looked at Caleb, eyes worried. “Can you look after him please?” He asked, going to hand off Galahad to her.

He rejoined Ruth’s side, putting a hand on her arm and squeezing her. “I’ve got you” he promised, voice low as he went to guide them all to her room. He didn’t know Jerome so he didn’t know if he ever talked about his family, he just knew what Chris Had literally just told him and what he could figure out. He was from a farm, poor family, apparently several siblings, been training for two years, ill when young. How long had Ruth actually be gone from his life?

Lance wanted to know what had happened, was something wrong with her family, her parents, her siblings? All of them? Maybe Jerome was the only one that had missed her. That’d be sad but he couldn’t say he’d be surprised. He couldn’t imagine how a parent could ever sell a child, but then again Lance had never been poor with a deathly ill child. He entered The room and crossed his arms over his chest, staying standing and watching Jerome. Hopefully things remained peaceful and Gaheris stayed out of it.

Caleb was soon enough taking Galahad into her arms. Giving Lance a nod as she watched them head into the house. Jerome following behind the two. Seeming a bit lost in thought. Luckily Lance was at Ruth's side, A good thing. At his touch the young girl was soon leaning against him. Taking comfort in his company. This did not feel right, And Ruth half wanted to stop. To not find out. But, Still she continued on. Walking into the room and looking to Jerome. Who quietly closed the door behind them. Carefully walking to a nearby chair in the room and sitting down. He didn't have much time before Ruth was pressing. "Romey, What happened? " She pressed. Watching as the man slouched a bit. Looking down at his hands.

Jerome then slowly began. "After you left, Mom and dad brought the healer. He... I started getting better. But then symptoms started showing in our siblings. " Jerome explained. Looking down and staring at his hand. Seemingly guilt showed in his eyes. He then murmured. "Most of the family didn't recover. Me, Hector, And mom made it out alive. But... Thats it. " Jerome murmured. Wincing at the words. Jerome then continued quietly. "Mom... Never really fully recovered after everything. After everyone was gone. She... Three years ago we also lost her. " Silence then filled the air. Ruth had hoped to return home. For everything to return to what was once normal. But normal was to never return. It seemed only Jerome was left and one other brother.

Ruth was quiet for a time. Before she then quietly began. "You're... You're joking. Right? This, Its a sick joke? " She stared at Jerome, Hoping, Praying for some sort of laughter. For some sort of evidence this wasn't real. But nothing came. Jerome was quiet. Glancing away. And Ruth didn't know what to do. Clutching her fists. Tears evidence in her eyes before she snapped. "So, There's nothing left then? Everyone's gone? " Sadness clutched her chest, A longing for something she'd never have again. But also frustration and anger. Ruth then growled. "I had to suffer so long, Because of your sickness! And you... You took the rest of them too? " That was unfair. But Ruth clearly was not being rational. Jerome tensed at her words. But he did nothing to stop them. Ruth then further hissed. "Why did you even try to become a knight? To find me? Why? Why even bother when theres nothing to even go back too?! "

The news was bad. Her parents and siblings dead except for Jerome and one other brother. He didn’t know how many siblings she’d had, how many she’d truly lost but enough for it to sting like hell. With a big family, the lack of money would’ve only compounded their fate and Lance felt his heart go out to Ruth, to Jerome, for their suffering. To go through what Ruth had to come back and find it was gone? That the life she’d dreamed of wasnt ever a possibility. Lance of course had suspected that she’d be disappointed, upset, maybe even angry with how things would be once she found her family but it was tragic all the same.

Jerome wasn’t to blame though, not that he was aware, he’d lost his family too after all, suffered as well, it wasn’t a competition about who had had a worse life. Yet, he could understand that Ruth might be comforted by shouting and blaming. “Ruth” Lance said softly. “there isn’t nothing. You found each other, that’s got to count for something. Both of you have more family in your life than you thought you would at the start of the day” he reasoned. Ruth might not take well to his reasoning though, she was emotional, rightly so, and may not wish to be comforted, still he felt he had to try.

”you know you’d be more upset if you found out he never went looking for you, didn’t even attempt to fulfil his promise” he pointed out. “It’s never easy losing family, and I know you wanted to go back to the life you had Ruth but I’m sorry, that was never an option” someone had to break the news to her, although he thought maybe she was aware of that, just didn’t want to acknowledge it, preferred lying to herself to keep hope alive. “But you do have Jerome, a brother who never gave up on looking for you, and also this…hector” Lance said, he didn’t know who that was but maybe he’d be happy to see Ruth.”maybe you should contact Hector, might be good for you all to be together”

Lance's voice drew Ruth's gaze and she looked at him, Teary and distraught. But she seemed willing to listen to him. Still, This was all upsetting and Ruth was emotional. Not being the most rational. She then found herself whimpering. "I just want to go home.... " She wanted to be free and to be able to put everything behind her. Pretend it had not happened. Lance was right, It had not been a option. It was unfair. She hated it. She then said. "I... I need to be alone for a bit. " She murmured quietly. Turning and walking towards the door. Opening it and then slamming it closed behind her. Leaving the two men behind and storming down the hallway.

Jerome winced at the sound of the door closing. He then quietly murmured. "I-I'll send word to Hector. " But then he was looking up at Lance. Eyes softening as he said. "Thank you... For looking out for her. " He did not known much context of what had happened to her between the time she was sold, Then ended up here. But it was clear Lance was concerned for her well being. Was trying to help her.

Jerome then stood up. Staring at the door, And he was left unsure. This had all been a lot for Ruth. It might be best to leave her alone for a bit. Let her process things. But such was easier said then done. But he then was looking to Lance for some sort of answer. "Should I follow her? " He murmured quietly. As much as he might want to say otherwise. Jerome did not know Ruth. They had been apart for years. But Lance seemed to be her friend. Might have more of idea of what the best course of action was.

Ruth was strong, but he suffered a lot. It was sometimes easy to forget she was still young, just a kid. She just wanted her family back, to go home and forget all that she had suffered too, no one could blame her for that, but it wasn’t possible and Lance wanted to wrap her up in a hug and tell her that despite it all, she wasn’t alone. But she wanted some solitude, some time to think and process and recover. It was a lot to drop on her at once but he supposed it was better than keeping secrets from her.

Lance wish he knew whether they should follow her. He guessed it was sort of good he didn’t know, despite it all, she’d not been so upset as to storm off often, it had happened once when Merlin was saying dangerous things and Gaheris had been sent to comfort her, in retrospect maybe not the smartest move but he’d been hurting too at the time it seemed. She had also come to Lance over being scared or upset, he guessed she liked comfort, but she had said she wanted to be alone, and he didn’t think it was the wisest for Jerome to chase her. It was a lot for her to take in, Jerome following might only overwhelm her more, but she might like the comfort of a brother? “I’ll check on her in a bit” Lance told him, give her a little time to think and then make sure she knew they had her back.

He looked at Jerome, tilting his head slightly. “She’s been through a lot” he explained. Lance wasn’t sure it was his place to tell him, and it’s not like he knew everything but someone should probably prepare Jerome somewhat, might stop him from traumatising Ruth more by getting her to relive things, he figured Ruth might not want to recount it all. “From what I can tell, her masters weren’t fond of her, she stuck up for over slaves and she doesn't hold her tongue, that would’ve done her no favours” he said. “Your parents sold her as a young girl, there are horrible people out there that you know would have enjoyed that, that you know what they would’ve done” Ruth had not had an easy life. “I don’t know much about it, but she had a baby. It didn’t survive.“ he explained. “She doesn’t talk about it much, she doesn’t talk about a lot of it, i just hear snippets, other bits can be pieced together. I don’t know what she was like when she left, but I doubt she’s the same girl you knew”

Jerome seemed relieved at Lance's promise to check on her. Because while he himself was worried. He certainly did not know how to help. Jerome looked away at his next words. He could guess she had suffered. Knew the suffering slaves often went threw and guilt did cross his face once more. The part about a baby though surely caught him by surprise. He then questioned. "She... Is... Things are better now though? Yes? Your taking care of her? She's not a slave? " He asked, And well, It seemed he assumed Lance might have given her some sort of freedom. He didn't exactly know who owned her now. The last comment did seem to hurt and he glanced away. Confessing. "I... I don't really remember much from then. When she was with us. " He himself had only been a small child. He did remember some bits. But they were small fragmented memories.

Jerome then confessed to Lance. "I don't... I don't know what to do now. Taking her to our old home doesn't feel... Right. Its not... Its not like it used to be. " Emptiness now filled that old house. Jerome himself didn't even like going there. It was.. Haunting. But then he shook his head. "I don't even know if I should introduce her to Hector. He... He's a good man. But he... Still lingers in the past. Drink is his solution to that, Especially after mother... " He would not be anywhere near the big brother that Ruth had once known. Jerome still faintly remember such. He had been a prideful excited man once. Now it was different. He wallowed in grief much of the day. Jerome supposed he could sober him up for a visit. Try and hide some of the worst of it from Ruth for now. Such would eventually come to light. But it could be delayed a bit.

Jerome didn't want to hide things from Ruth. Felt he should be honest. But that was difficult. Hey, Atleast Jerome seemed to be alright and was doing well for himself. Was a squire and seemed to have held true to his promise. Perhaps once Ruth calmed down that might provide some comfort to her. They could rebuild some sort of relationship. But things likely needed to be taken slow.

Lance couldn’t hide his expression as Jerome assume she was no longer a slave, a mixture of apologetic and disagreement. Ruth was not his slave to free and Jerome wasn’t going to like who owned her. And it seemed only Jerome was who Ruth could really rely on for family, this Hector he’d mentioned was not coping well. “Maybe with Ruth back that might encourage him to clean up his act?” Lance suggested but he didn’t have a lot of faith in that idea, still maybe Hector would get better if he realised not all was lost and that Ruth needed him. Except did she? Because they hadn’t been there for her when she needed them most.

”she’s not free“ he told Jerome. “and she’s not mine” Things weren’t that simple. “Prince Silas bought her, more as joke than anything else and have her to Gaheris.” He explained and well, he didn’t want Jerome storming off for a word, after this morning Gaheris was bound to be in a foul mood and if Jerome got involved then Gaheris might just treat Ruth worse. “We’re working on it. Now that Gaheris is back here, now that he’s under Agravain’s care, Ruth has a real shot of being free. Caleb’s been keeping an eye on her when I can’t and she doesn't like that Gaheris owns her either. But if we push Gaheris too much he’ll never free her. Half the reason he probably keeps her is because he knows it annoys us. Just give us some time to work on freeing her”

”but I think you’re going to have to give her some time to. To get used to it all. You’ve just changed her whole life with a single conversation. All her dreams about what her life would be like? She doesn’t have a goal anymore, thats a lot for anyone. But she does have you. Maybe you shouldn’t jump into things too quickly but just visit her often even if not for long, give her the chance to adjust.“ It might be rocky though, he guessed maybe sibling relations often were, he didn’t have one to know but Silas and Caroline seemed to get along great one second and then Silas was annoying her the next. Maybe best not to think about her though, he had a date with Morgan later and he was trying to get over her, but he did wonder how she was. And Silas, he hoped he wasn’t letting Someone else control him.

Jerome frowned at Lance's expression. But the topic was on Hector and Jerome was not so sure the man would so easily recovered. Seeing Ruth might help a bit. Perhaps ease some of the grief. But it was no cure. Still, Jerome did not think he could keep them separated. Nor did he want to. Ruth deserved the chance to meet her remaining living family. Though Jerome was freezing at the mention of Gaheris. His eyes going to the door and he might have gone straight to seek out Gaheris. But Lance was encouraging other wise. Seeming to have a plan already set in motions. Though that did not ease his concern. It was difficult to just sit and wait. Jerome then tried. "He... He won't sell her? " He asked. Not that Jerome could afford to buy her. The man had not even purchased his own sword yet. He had little and even if Gaheris was willing to sell. He'd surely want far more then Jerome could ever hope to pay.

Jerome shifted at Lance's words. Seeming uncertain. He wanted to seek her out. Talk properly. But Lance was right, This was a lot for anybody and he knew he needed to hang back. It was frustrating. He then confessed to Lance. " I truthfully did not believe she was alive... Its no secret slaves are not treated well... But I also worried she had caught whatever had spread threw the family. " It had seemed a likely fate to befall her. That hadn't made Jerome stop trying. But he'd always considered finding her well... A practically impossible task. This still didn't feel real.

It was then he heard a knock at the door. The sound catching him by surprise. Only to hear Caleb's voice threw the door. "Hey... I just wanted to check on you guys. I noticed Ruth storming off. " The girl had left. Likely to find somewhere private. But Caleb still had spotted her as she was leaving and decided it best to leave her be. But... She still figured it best to check and make sure Lance and Jerome were alright.
