Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

It seemed both Lance and Gavin were excited about this strange date ahead of them. Gavin couldn't help the way her heart raced as she headed back to the castle doors. Oh, If her brothers discovered this they'd certainly be horrified. How could she be going on a date with Lance of all people? But no matter how much Gavin tried, She could not temper down the excitement stirring in her chest. This would be a interesting night.

It seemed it was difficult for Lance not to tell someone about this. But could one blame him? He was excited. Chris was perhaps a good choice. As someone like Caleb would surely scold him. Chris could also perhaps be convinced to keep things quiet. Lance knew things about him after all. Not to mention out ranked him.
Lance wasn't to have too hard of a time finding Chris. He was in the training yard. Idly chatting with another man. The sight of Lance giving him some pause. Oh no, Chris was very much aware that Lance had taken some interest in his training as of late. And sure, It was nice to have such a famous knight wanting to help him. But goodness. Sometimes Lance could be a lot. The attention was uncomfortable and half the time made him want to climb out a window. Except he was sure he'd already been spotted. So no use running.

Quietly he lifted his hand to give Lance a little wave in greeting. While his companion next to him mused. "Oh god, The way he's grinning. Whatcha wanna bet he's got a new love in his life again? " What? Lance got around. If he was smiling like that there was only one reason. Chris spared the man a glare. Hopefully Lance wasn't in ear shot to hear that little comment. Chris's companion was smart enough to quiet down when Lance neared. What? He didn't want to end up in trouble with a senior knight!

Lance did spot Chris quite quickly and was soon making his way over, a little more of a Bounce in his step than there had been yesterday and that grin still on his face. He was feeling good, and it might take a while for him to come down from this high, or maybe he wouldn’t because he had all day to look forward to his date, and hopefully he’d be happy afterwards too, he wanted it to go well for whatever reason, he just…he wanted to impress her and make her smile. It really didn't make much sense but feelings rarely did.

Lance waved back and soon he was close enough to chat. “Chris! What a lovely day” he commented. “Let’s spar” he insisted. He did glance at Chris’ companion briefly, he could watch he supposed. Lance, as usual, was confident in his ability and figured Chris would do little damage to him, if any, but let’s just hope he was right because it might put a dampener on his date if he had broken ribs. “I’ll go easy on you again” he promised, and he was teasing him but he wasn’t exactly lying either, he wouldn’t be trying to kill Chris or push him too hard, he was still feeling out his abilities.

He didn’t really want to talk about Gavin in front of too many people but it was difficult to keep it in. ”I’m in a good mood” he confessed although it was quite easy to tell. “I have a date tonight,“ he told them. “It feels good, it’s been a while before I’ve had a real date” He’d only had stolen moments with Caroline really which so didn’t count. As much as he loved them, they were all quite hasty, and whilst he couldn’t flaunt Gavin, a date would at least give them more opportunity to get to know each other. He looked at Chris curiously, he knew about his crush of course, but he had said they’d have to get him a girl so he could move on. “We’ll look for a date for you soon” he promised Chris which would surely please him, after all help from Lance in his love life and his fighting? what more did he want! “I can teach you some things, and we’ll need to make sure you look the part too” he mused, yeah they couldn’t have Chris trying to pick up girls when he was looking all rag tag. Oh poor Chris, Lance really was a lot.

Oh goodness, Chris could already tell Lance was in a excited mood. Lance wasted no time in insisting they battle. How wonderful, Chris was still sore from the last time! "I uh... " He began, And it seemed Chris's companions guess was correct. Lance had a new love it seemed. When was he not chasing some girl though? But Lance couldn't only be concerned about his own dating life. He had to focus on Chris as well. Chris could already hear his companion next to him snort in amusement. Earning a small glare. Chris then said. "I look fine. And I've plenty of experience with dating. " He lied. Gosh, Sparring was far more preferred over discussing Chris's love life!

Chris then said. "We were actually just talking about training though. " He said, Looking towards his friend and gesturing towards him. "Lance, Have you met Jerome? He's Frederick's squire. " Chris had not been a fully fledged knight for long. It made sense some of his friends were still squires. Jerome for his part did not seem very shy. Giving Lance a bright grin and offering his hand to shake. "Hello, I've heard a lot about you. " He told. Because well, Who hadn't heard about Lance?

Chris then explained. "I was just telling him, He ought to come visit Caleb's home and train with me there. And that maybe we could talk Agravain into sparring. " Caleb could use some more friends. But Chris couldn't just phrase things like that! He had to be more subtle about it! Lance might be able to figure out Chris's intentions well enough. Jerome was smiling brighter at the idea. Agravain was terrifying and many would shy at the idea of sparring with him. But it was also enticing to spar with such a famous knight. Except that didn't seem to be Jerome's intentions as he said. "I've wanted a excuse to hit that guy for a while. He's a d*ck. " He explained. Because well, It was true. Maybe Jerome shouldn't go there with that mind set. But probable a lot of people wanted to hit Agravain.
Chris didn't seem to impressed by the idea. "Jerome. Even if you did hit him, You'd probable barely leave a scratch. " Agravain was massive. And well, While Jerome was well enough built. He was not a particularly large man. That wasn't to say there was no chance. Caleb was able to land a hit on him. But Chris would argue that Caleb was far more skilled then Jerome.

It was true that Lance was often involved with some girl or love struck over another or even moping about one he couldn’t have. His affections were well known, especially among the knights and he got his fair share of teasing for it, although some admiration too. He certainly had the charm and a way with the ladies to be so successful with them. He really did think he could help Chris out, but Chris didn’t seem too eager about that idea. No matter, they’d find him a girl whether he liked it or not! He’d learn to appreciate what Lance was doing for him. Chris really couldn’t be pining over Agravain for any length of time.

Lance’s gaze switched to the squire as they were introduced, he didn’t think he had met him, maybe seen him in passing but he was exactly familiar with him. He gripped his hand and shook it, returning the smile. It was always nice to be friendly and well, if Chris said he was alright then he was inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. And Jerome had heard a lot about Lance but he couldn’t say the same in return but perhaps that was a good thing, if Lance had heard a lot about a squire then it probably meant they were trouble.

He let his gaze slide back to Chris as he brought up Agravain, a pointed and probing look in his eyes but did Chris even remember that he’d told Lance about his crush? He contemplated his words before his attention was again captured by Jerome and he laughed. It wasn’t exactly unusual for people to talk sourly about Agravain but it was refreshing for a squire to have the Nerves too say it or say they wanted to challenge him. “Oh he is A d*ck” Lance confirmed, “I’m sure even Caleb can agree with that” Sure she might be married to him but it’s not like he was all of a sudden mr nice, even if he had become more tame.

”but he’s a dangerous d*ck” Lance admitted before grinning again and Slapping his hand onto Chris’ shoulder. Oh wait, hadn’t chris’ shoulder been injured sparring the other day? Let’s hope it was the other one that Lance had touched “Didn’t stop Chris from almost caving his knee in though. He did a good job. And sure Agravain has gotten slow and lazy since his marriage but he is still formidable” Lance explained. “I was very proud of Chris, you should’ve seen him, but I guess you will, maybe Chris can pulverise Agravain’s other knee this time!“ and he laughed again, heartily. He didn’t think Agravain would make it so easy for him next time but it’d be interesting. It would be good to have Jerome go round though, for Caleb to have more company than just her husband, her father, Chris and now Lance.

“and obviously Caleb is nothing to sneeze at either.” He insisted. “She’s quick. What she lacks in strength she more than makes up for in speed, and her fighting style is more unique than Agravain’s. It’ll be interesting to see how out of practice she is after this baby is born. You might even have a chance at not getting your arse handed to you” he teased Chris. “There’s a lot to be learnt from those two, and Caleb’s father. I would recommend taking the chance whilst you can” he encouraged Jerome. “I’m fact you’re more than welcome to join my sessions with Chris, assuming Frederick doesnt Think I’m stepping on his toes” How did Chris match up to this squire? Jerome straight off seemed more confident but after the last session and his chat with Agravain, maybe Chris would be less hesitant.

If Chris remember any of his drunken confession, He did not say. Lance's gaze was uncomfortable though and Chris did shift. Thankful when Lance was focused on Jerome. Except no, He then felt a shooting pain in his shoulder and did his best not to whimper at Lance's slap. Though a small wince did show on his face. Jerome was seeming amused, Studying Chris as he said. "I'm surprised he got a hit in, Then again. I have seen Chris get vicious when he wants to. " He said. Which was maybe a bit odd to hear. Chris very much seemed nervous and held back while training around the others. Expressed hesitancy. But Jerome seemed to know Chris well, Knew him before he became so nervous of going to far.

Jerome seemed to become more excited at the talk of training with them. A glint was in his eyes and he soon grinned. "I'd love to join you both, I assume your planning to train now? Give me a minute to fetch a weapon. " He expressed. So, It seemed they'd have someone tagging along with them. Jerome was soon stepping back and then scurrying off to the nearby armory. Soon enough out of ear shot. Chris waited until he was gone before glancing at Lance. Well, Seemed he was up for more training today. Wonderful.

Chris then said. "I'm hoping I can get Jerome to come with me when I go to visit Caleb. " He didn't think he really needed to explain why. Caleb could use more friends. Jerome was still a squire. But he was a good enough guy. Hopefully they'd get along! But Chris was realizing that Lance probable would want him to spar with Jerome and well... That made Chris hesitant. Lance and Agravain were skilled. Could block him. But even so, He was nervous of making a mistake. Jerome was a squire. Would not be as skilled and frankly, Chris thought if he got a hit in, He might seriously hurt the man. So he then glanced towards Lance. " I uh... My shoulders not fully healed yet. So I'd rather not do a full out spar today." He explained. That should be a good enough excuse! Things would be fine!

He then focused forward, He could see Jerome coming into view. A old sword in hand. Likely just a spare normally used for training. Chris was soon enough commenting. "D*mn, Have you still not bought yourself a sword? " He noted. Causing Jerome to huff. Waving his hand. "Not everybody here's rich or got someone to buy weapons for them. " He said, Looking pointedly at Chris's mace on his hip. Jerome then said. "But, I'm planning on getting something soon enough. " He promised.

Lance raised an eyebrow in surprise, he would not call Chris vicious but he guessed that He didn’t know Him that well. Still, Chris didn’t really seem like the type to be vicious, seemed too timid for that but he guessed the heat of the battle changed people. And speaking of battle, Jerome was agreeing and Lance nodded with a small smile, watching his leave to get a weapon. “Don’t let her catch wind of you setting her up a play date though” Lance said, he didn’t think Caleb would appreciate it too much if she knew they were scheming to Get her friends.

”True battle cares little for injuries” Lance told Chris, in a real fight then he wouldn’t have any choice but to fight like he meant it, but this was only a spar and Lance was willing to let him go a bit easier, just wanted him to be aware that he couldn’t use such an excuse in a real fight. “But you should heal, it’s a luxury you won’t always have. I’ll be very gentle with you don’t worry” Lance promised him. Maybe Jerome and Chris could team up Against Lance? Except Lance had no idea what Jerome’s capabilities were like, still….he wasn’t nervous, that wasn’t his nature. He was confident In his fighting ability.

Lance let his gaze fall to the mace, he had noticed it but he just figured that Chris had bought it for himself, or Borrowed one again. It was interesting that it had been bought for him but it was good he know had his own weapon, and one that he actually liked now. “I’m sure you’ll get your own sword soon enough” Lance said, maybe once he became a knight he’d go and get himself one, or he’d be gifted one? Anyway: “Cmon, let’s see what you’ve got” he insisted, striding over towards a space for sparring. Chris had seemed hesitant to spar, unsurprising, that was much like yesterday, at least he had more of an excuse today with his injury, so maybe Lance should test Jerome first, maybe if he saw them spar he’d get more into the spirit? Lance drew his sword, shining in the sunlight snd his grin reflected in the blade. “whenever you are ready” he promoted Jerome. Against Chris, Lance had not used his sword instead picking up weapons he was more unfamiliar with. Lance was more comfortable with a sword, it was one of his preferred weapons, so he might Be a more difficult opponent than he had been The other day.

Chris felt himself relax as Lance seemed to be willing to let Chris off the hook. That didn't mean there wouldn't be training. But Chris could relax for a moment. Besides, Lance seemed to be focused on Jerome for the moment. The young man was grinning in excitement. But then again, Who wouldn't be? The chance to spar with Lance was no doubt exciting for a squire. Drawing his sword. Jerome then spoke teasingly. "Ready to get your *ss kicked? " He joked. Before seeming to ready himself. Unlike Chris. Jerome wasn't going to try and hold back. He was moving quickly, Aiming to swipe at Lance's side before quickly moving back.

It seemed Jerome's style of fighting was similar to Caleb's in a way. Constantly moving. It made sense, He was a small man and to be fair to him. He was quick. Though he was no where near as skilled as Caleb. But that could hardly be blamed on him. He was still in training and he also hadn't had Melodias as a teacher. Jerome was then moving forward. Attempting to move around Lance and slash from behind.

Chris couldn't help but frown a bit as he watched. Jerome was fast. But Chris thought so was Lance. He also had a feeling Lance probable could tell Jerome's planning. Lance had a lot of experience after all. Chris then spent a moment to call forward. "C'mon Jerome! You got this! " What? Jerome could probable use the support. Except that was maybe a bad idea, Because Jerome paused at Chris's voice. Without thinking glancing towards him. Bad idea to take his eyes off Lance. Oops.

Lance grinned in return, he liked Jerome’s spirit, could see similarities with his own. And then Jerome was leaping into action and there he found more similarities, the speed not unlike Lance’s. Lance twisted out of the way of the sword, watching Jerome retreat when he figured the man might’ve done better from pressing his advantage but he could understand being defensive, if You didn’t know your opponent then it could pay to be wary. Lance supposed he could’ve lunged after him but he was more observing for now. He did think that Jerome might be an interesting battle partner for Caleb and he could learn from her.

It wasn’t the easiest to move around your opponent when they were only focused on you, speed helped but Lance wasn’t one of the slower knights so he managed to twirl away easily, yet to make a move of his own as he assessed Jerome. And Chris, oh he was just trying to be supportive, but Jerome was distracted and that was a prime opening. Lance moved in closer, aiming a quick slash across Jerome’s chest, nothing too deep, more just to get his attention before he brought his sword back to try and nestle under Jerome’s chin warningly, careful not to skewer him in the throat. “Don’t take your eyes off your opponent” Lance warned. “Especially if you’re not quicker than them” he added with a teasing smile before going to pull his sword away. “I could’ve taken your head off if I wanted” He explained, “you’re young, distractible, I get that, but stay more focused this time” He insisted, moving to restart them before he made the first move this time.

Lance didn’t start with a slash, it was a common opener so he started with a lunge, aiming for Jerome’s side, not wanting to make a kebab out of the kid before he went to swing his sword around and down towards Chris’ feet. The problem with lunges is that they left you more open, you had to reach for them but at the same time, they gave you a bit more distance than some other moves with a nice extended arm. Didn’t work too well with a heavier sword though. Lance was then moving to retreat, bringing his sword to a defensive position to parry anything Jerome might answer with.

(I like them sparring but the problem with Lance is that he’s meant to be the best knight in the entire kingdom, like I have a scene in my head from when i introduce the assassin lady about her saying he’s
singlehandedly took down about a dozen of her men. Like he’s meant to be fantastic, but it feels a bit strange to make him untouchable. Like I imagine some of the senior knights could get a hit off, like Gawain and that, but maybe not take him down? Although I also imagine he holds himself back a bit. Like he wants to spar on other people’s levels so maybe he’s never really shown many people how well he can truly fight? And even when injured he’d keep going, like he thinks he’s unstoppable. I think it’d be fun to have him spar Melodias as well. On the one hand, I think it’d be fun To have Lance prove to Melodias that He can walk the walk, but also I like the idea of Melodias just knocking him down and taking him by surprise. But if that does happen, I can imagine he’d jump back up again and eagerly insist on continuing Or going another round, like he’d be happy to learn from him and he likes a challenge)

(Oh yeah, I've always imagined Lance could kick everyones behinds if he wanted to. But I understand not wanting to make him untouchable. It would be really fun for Melodias to knock him down though! Like, I imagine Melodias might only beat him once, But that it would certainly surprise Lance!
I kinda imagine the ranking of the strongest knights kinda going like this.
-Lance
-Percival
-Gawain, He might have been above Percival if he was in better health.
-Agravain and Caleb being about even.
-Arthur, I imagine this might change as he gets older and more experienced.
Also, I dunno if this is a good idea. But I kinda like the idea of Jerome and Gaheris sparring somehow. And Jerome beating Gaheris? Because I think it would be really interesting to see how that effects Gaheris. What with Jerome still being a squire and I imagine he came from a poor family. So I could see Gaheris really looking down on him. I don't think he'd take it well if he lost though. )

Jerome had failed to get a hit on Lance. Though that was hardly surprising. What Jerome didn't expect was how quickly things turned for him. Wincing as he felt the slash across his chest. Quickly he was snapping his gaze back to Lance. But it was too late. The sword was placed at his neck and he found he was staring wide eyes at Lance. Luckily it did not seem like his pride was too hurt. For he was soon grinning. "I guess I'll be less distractable when I'm old like you. " What? He'd called him young. So that obviously ment Lance was old. But his tone was only teasing and he gave Lance a nod. Stepping back as to prepare himself.

Clearly he wasn't prepared enough. Because he felt the weapon in his side. Barely scrambling back in time to avoid the sword slicing his legs. But he regained his balance quick enough. He couldn't exactly pause. So he quickly was moving forward. His sword clashing against Lances. Chris was of course watching from the side lines and winced at the sight. Before shouting. "Jerome! You can't beat Lance like that!" And he was right. Lance was stronger then Jerome. A full frontal attempt would not end well for the man. Luckily Chris's words seemed to be more helpful this time. As Jerome took his advice. Eyes still on Lance as he swiftly dodged back. Putting a bit more distance between him and Lance.

(Yeah I think Lance is a quick learner and he adapts well to new fighters. I like your ranking although I would say maybe Agravain when in top shape has a slight edge because of his experience but Caleb would certainly be on his level once they start going on quests together. I can see Arthur getting better but not becoming the best fighter, ignoring Lance, because he’s got to focus on other aspects Of being king as well, like commanding knights rather than beating them all but he’s still good. And I can see people with unusual styles getting more hits on Lance snd like the assassin lady being able to attack him because she can get his guard down and she doesn’t play fair.
I like the idea of him fighting Gaheris. i don’t think Gaheris is a particularly great fighter, he can do the moves but it doesn’t come that naturally to him, it’s more practice than part of him. and he’s going to be very upset and angry if Jerome beats him, I can see him attacking him after they’d dropped their weapons. Like he’s knocked on the ground and Jerome offers to help him up and Gaheris just launches himself at him to start punching him. He’s just a very angry boy and he doesn’t like being shown up.)

Lance fake gasped as he was called old. Honestly all these kids were so disrespectful, he would definitely get on with Caleb! Lance was Soon putting him in his place though as Jerome got sliced by him. He had a pleased smile, no one ever really expected a lunge, especially not as a first move, but Jerome did a good job of avoiding the next strike but failed to really give a good attack which was disappointing. And he was staying defensive which was boring of him but made sense. Sometimes it was good to let your opponent make the mistakes snd look for an opening.

Lance eyed Jerome before going to lunge again, aiming for the other side, except he pulled short, feinting, abandoning his lunge halfway to sweep his sword across Jerome’s chest again, moving forward as he anticipated a block or a dodge, rotating around Jerome slightly and aiming to cut Jerome’s upper arm with his sword before going low again, leaving himself slightly open in the hopes that he’d tempt Jerome to attack him. “Caleb would be s good teacher to you” he promised, finding the time to talk amid his attacks. “But you need to learn to fight heavy Hitters too like Chris” he said. “Why don’t you and Chris go round to her snd Agravain’s tomorrow? And then we can all watch the two of you spar. I’ll even give you a cut of the bets if you win” he teased. What? Knights bet on fights all the time. He wasn’t sure who he'd bet on just yet though.

(Its gonna be really interesting to play all of them when they're a bit older! I love the idea of Lance being all proud of Galahad when he gets old enough to start fighting. Like, You know he's going to be bragging all the time.
Yeah! Ooh! That could be really fun! Maybe Lance pulls Gaheris off him when it happens? Which could cause a even bigger argument. I could imagine Gaheris before the fight boasting about how easy it would be. Maybe also wanting to show off in front of Ruth? )

Jerome was out of his league in this fight. But that didn't seem to hurt his spirit or excitement. He was ready to block Lance's move, Except no, Lance knew how to feint. The blade cut across him. But he was able to move his arm out of the way. Lance was giving him a opening as he moved closer. Jerome wasn't going to waste it. Lance was close, So, Jerome bounced back. Slashing his sword downwards. A attempt to catch his side. But then Jerome was lunging forward. And well, It seemed Jerome wasn't afraid to take a page out of Lance's book. For he was attempting a fairly similar feint and strike across him. Maybe that was a bit cocky. But Lance might not be expecting Jerome to mimic him. Sparing was made for practice. Jerome was not so confident not to try and learn a few moves from his opponent!

Jerome seemed to enjoy the banter while sparring. A soft laugh came from him. "Oh? Whats the point in betting when we know I'll win. " He spoke loudly. Hoping for Chris to hear. What? It was fun to tease. He had a glint in his eyes though and snickered. "But sounds like fun. I'll be there. " Seemed they'd succeeded in convincing him to come. Hopefully Jerome and Caleb would get along well enough! She could use more companionship and well, Jerome could use her advice.

(Yeah, he’s going to be so happy with Galahad. I wonder where he’ll be in the rankings cos he’s meant to be pretty good too. But Lance is just going to brag to everyone about him.
I like that idea, Gaheris wants to impress Ruth really and he’s going to be furious that He was shown up and then even more angry that Lance got involved. Maybe he threatens Lance with what he knows as well. I think overall he’s going to act softer now towards Ruth. He doesn’t have the stress of the journey, even if he’s nit happy about being home, but also Gavin has suggested he play nice so I think he’ll try to, and he’s going to start preying on Gaheris soon, another reason he’s not pressuring Ruth anymore)

Jerome Did attack like he expected and Lance managed To twist out of the way in time but Jerome’s next move did surprise him. Oh he was bold to copy Lance like that, especially so soon but it paid off because he managed to nick Lance as he did his best to pull his body out of the way. It certainly could do with a bit more work but for s first attempt he was pleased with Jerome and He laughed as he pressed a hand against the small wound in slight wonder. Jerome had potential. Not many people managed to get a hit off against Lance, but a squire had managed it! Granted it was only little and Lance wasn’t going to let it happen again but that was still impressive. That sort of cockiness was like something he’d do, Chris really had picked someone interesting to try and become Caleb’s friend.

”don’t be like that, Chris needs his confident built, at least pretend it’ll be a fair fight“ Lance said playfully as he stepped closer again, aiming for a quick double slash across Jerome’s’ chest in an X shape before going to move even close as he moved his sword to clash into Jerome’s with hopefully enough force and Momentum to make them rattle, he wanted to try and disarm him. Might be a bit of a power struggle if Jerome stayed gripping his sword but it’d be interesting to see how strong he was And what he’d do now that Lance was this close. “I think you might even have a half decent shot again Agravain in his current state. I reckon you can at least hit him, just be prepared for him to hit back” Agravain was strong, one of Jerome’s hits wasn’t equal to one of Agravain’s, he had to be aware of that. Still Lance was sure it’d be fun and would hopefully make Caleb happy to have more company.

(I could imagine Galahad one day eventually beating Lance in a spar. And Lance just being like so proud and happy. And maybe a bit sad that his boys growing up.
Yeah! I can see him being furious and using Lance's secret against him. And like, I feel like if he realizes using it once worked to get Lance to back off. That would just make him more likely to use it in the future.
Oof, I feel like things with Ruth might end up getting better. Like, They might actually start becoming sorta friends. But I feel like Ruth would only ever see them as maybe friends. And he might see them as more then that when its not the case. )

Oh, He'd actually gotten a hit off on Lance! That had the squire grinning and excitement was clear in his eyes. But he only got a bit of time to celebrate before Lance was launching another attack. Jerome scrambling backwards. But not fast enough, He felt Lance's weapon do one small slice. But was able to get out of the way before anymore damage could be dealt. Lifting his blade and soon finding himself struggling against Lance. It was difficult to keep his sword from going flying and he strained to keep his grip firm. Mind racing on how best to get himself out of the situation. He couldn't keep this up for long, There was little way he could dodge back. Doubted Lance would allow him to put any space between them. Thus he was a bit stuck.

So, Jerome decided to try some risky. Grinning and scoffing. "Oh? Are there going to be bets on if I can hit Agravain? How much would I get out of it? " He told playfully. Before moving and attempting to kick at Lance's leg. He doubt he'd be able to knock him down or anything. He just wanted to off balance him enough so that he could dodge backwards. Maybe it wasn't the noblest of moves and Jerome was sure his mentor would scold him if he found out. But oh well.

(Yeah, he’s going ti be so proud of him but might start sniffling or something because his baby boy has all grown up. He’s probably going to embarrass him with a big hug and insist they celebrate.
Gaheris could start using the secret more, eventually leading up to him threatening to tell snd his death. Lance will obviously feel really guilty but he’ll have Attacked Gaheris to protect Gareth, accidentally killing him, but he’ll wonder if he killed him on purpose to protect his secret and just feel terrible about it.
I agree about Ruth too. i can’t see him all pleased with his progress snd he’s never really had a girl be that nice to him so he’ll take it to mean more than it actually does.

i feel like I’ll have to wait forever to introduce this assassin girl! Like Lance is going for Gavin at the moment and also still pining over Caroline, so he won’t get together with the assassin yet but I’m eager to introduce her. Maybe I could introduce her if and when Agravain and Caleb start going on quests? She could get in the way of their quest or be part Of who they’re tasked with bringing down? I can imagine people sort of know her, like she goes by a code name that people have heard of but not loads of people of seen her and not necessarily her face if they have because I can see her wearing a mask and a hood. Also it’s not like Lance will necessarily be there so they wouldn’t know that he knows her. Although I guess that might still be a while away and whether Lance will still be with Gavin then either…so I guess he could be getting involved with her. I dunno)

Jerome was still holding up well, even when caught off guard but it was clear that his strength wasn’t wuite enough to match Lance’s as he pressed his sword against The squires with considerable might. Just a little while longer and he Was sure Jerome was tire snd have to release his sword or do something desperate. and it seemed desperation won out as Jerome tried something a bit underhanded. It wasn’t too dissimilar a move from what Chris had used against him and Lance didn’t despise the underhand tactics, knew it was good to get any edge you could against your opponent but he was not exactly pleased by it either.

Lance moved his leg at the kick, causing the weight he was putting on the sword to shift s bit although he could’ve continued his attack snd not let up, he allowed Jerome to get away with it snd pulled back a bit. “Maybe a coin or two” he murmured. “But there’s probably going to be more bets on if Agravain will cleave you in two” he teased, hopefully the man wouldn’t but he was dangerous. “Chris didnt tell me you were A sneaky one” he mused as he watched Jerome, waiting for him to make the next move. “Or are you just desperate?” He asked, “you cant beat me in a fair fight after all” he wondered if he could provoke Jerome into slipping more, although it was pretty basic taunt, it might indicate that he could be further irritated.

(I get what you mean! I'm super excited to eventually play Mordred. Especially when he's a adult!
I like the idea of Caleb and Agravain meeting her! Especially if they got a bad impression of her. Because then Caleb might really start yelling at Lance for his poor choice in women. But it'll probable be a while before they start adventuring! Maybe you could have her appear back in Silas's kingdom. Like at some sort of party or ball. Like she might not stick around for long. But it could be a fun way to introduce her! )

Agravain could be a very dangerous man. Hopefully though he'd be a bit gentler with the squire. The young man probable knew that. Who didn't know about Agravain's temper? He then scoffed at Lance. "Alls fair in love and war. " He told playfully. Sticking his tongue out at Lance for a moment before he began moving closer. Except then he heard a harsh shout. "Jerome! What are you doing?! " A man's voice called and instantly Jerome tensed. Huffing a little in annoyance before sheathing his weapon. Well, It seemed his mentor had found him. Jerome soon turned and just in time. Because Frederick was storming to his side. The man was older. Hairs beginning to grey and he soon hissed. "Jerome? What have I told you about pestering the other knights? " He questioned. Before his attention moved to Lance. Dipping his head. "I'm sorry sir. I hope he wasn't bothering you. " He said, Though Jerome was quickly piping up to defend himself. "He offered to let me join his training session! " He explained.

Jerome then smiled cockily at Lance. "I was just about to kick his *ss! " He informed. Tone more playful. Though that caused his mentor to shoot a glare at him warningly. Yeah, Seemed Frederick was a bit of a no-nonsense kind of guy. Which likely didn't blend well with Jerome who was far more playful. But Jerome was young, He could hardly be blamed for that. Chris then decided to speak up as to help Jerome out a bit. "Yeah, We figured we would let him train with us. We were actually hoping to go to Caleb's place tomorrow so he could join us for training there. " He explained. Except, Frederick frowned at that. Nose wrinkling. He then expressed. "Training there is hardly appropriate. Its a bad example for a s-" He though soon faltered. As if realizing who he was talking to. Lance. Frederick did not seem to approve of Caleb. But Lance did and he seemed to realize he needed to be more careful with his wordings.

Jerome didn't seem to have the same issues. Or maybe he didn't notice the sudden tension. For he soon spoke up, Voice almost a squeak in excitement. "C'mon! Please? When else am I gonna get to train with famous knights like them? " Yeah, It probable was hard for him not to get excited. Who wouldn't be? His mentor still seemed hesitant and uncertain how to phrase his distaste for the idea.

(I’m excited for mordred too! Yeah maybe she can pop up on one of Arthur’s little quests or something As well. I’ll have to see where I can slot her in. i can see her maybe going to a ball and robbing everyone, like taking their jewellery and stuff)

Jerome seemed in fairly high spirits until his mentor showed up, it was easy to see the way his body tensed. His demeanour didn’t exactly change though as he still remained a bit cheeky which didn’t really seem to gel with Frederick’s personality but maybe it was good for Jerome to have someone a bit no nonsense, might stop him from getting into too much trouble, or would at least not encourage him to be too cocky. Although that hadn’t really worked with Lance so he guessed they’d see.

Lance sheathed his sword and crossed his arms over his chest as Frederick struggled to hide his distaste for Jerome visiting Caleb’s. To be honest he would’ve asked for forgiveness rather than permission if he’d had to pick but it’d probably be better if Frederick knew where his squire was and Jerome wasn’t sneaking off. “I’m afraid Agravain and Caleb are already expecting him now” he said which wasn’t a full lie, Agravain was expecting Chris to bring a friend round but Lance didn’t exactly know that. “It would be rude not to show up now” Lance murmured, and it would annoy Agravain although he wasn’t sure how much Frederick would care for that.

So Lance decided the best option was to give him practically no choice at all. “Chris will pick Jerome up just before lunch then tomorrow” Lance said, he wasn’t sure if he himself would be at the castle after all. “oh I’m sure Alexander will be very pleased that all his knights are getting along again” Lance said with a grin, bringing the king into it to remind Frederick that Caleb had still been knighted by the man. “What with the new baby, he could really do without the discord” he mused, suggesting that it was bad to upset Alexander at this time. Which it would be, no one would want to be the first person to bring Alexander down from the high of having a new heir.

(Oh! Her robbing them could be really fun! I could also imagine one of the knights chasing after her, Then when they confront her and realize she's a lady be all hesitant to actually fight. So she takes advantage of that to get away. )

It seemed Lance knew how to handle Frederick. How could the knight even hope to argue with Lance. Chris could already tell from the mans expression he didn't approve. But in the end the knight knew better then to press the issue. Nodding with a sigh. "Fine, But I do hope you'll have him back before dark. " He didn't want his apprentice to spend the night over at that place. Finally he then said. "Now, I'm sorry to excuse myself. But me and Jerome have work we need to get too. " Likely a excuse to simply get out of the uncomfortable situation. Dipping his head to Lance. Before turning to leave. Jerome was not so quick to follow. Looking at Lance and grinning. "Thank you! " Though he quickly turned when he heard his mentor call his name. A warning to keep up. Then he was hurrying after the man.

Christopher watched for a moment. Musing. "He's a good guy, I think him and Caleb will get along well enough. " Then his gaze moved to Lance, Amusement crossing his face as his gaze drifted down to his chest. "Can't believe he got a scratch on you though. " Not many squires could say that. Chris couldn't help but think Jerome likely would be boasting about that feat for a good few days. Getting to train with Lance was bragging worthy in its own right! Lance had seemed to enjoy training with the young man. Judging by the way he also was trying to teach Christopher, He seemed to enjoy teaching.

It was a interesting thought, And suddenly Chris said. "You ought to get a apprentice. " What? Then he wouldn't have to focus on Chris all the time! Lance might want to focus on Galahad though. Still, Chris then mused. "You just... Seem to like teaching. " It did make him wonder though. Would Lance one day start teaching Galahad how to become a knight? Could Galahad even become a knight? Chris was hesitant to think so. It would no doubt be extremely difficult. So Chris then said. "I don't know if you're planning to train Galahad, But.. It might be helpful to have some practice under your belt. "

(Yeah, I reckon because she’s a lady she takes a lot of people by surprise and knows how to use it. Also since Gawain and Lance used to be friends, if anyone might recognise her it would probably be him but I imagine her and Lance were very on and off as she’s not Always on the ‘good‘ side and she travels quite A lot for her work.)

Lance was triumphant, Frederick couldn’t really argue which was just what he wanted and that meant Jerome would be visiting Caleb and that she might get a new friend. Hooray! Lance smiled at Jerome and waved goodbye before glancing at Chris. “He got cocky, and it paid off” Lance mused. “Confidence can do that” which is why Chris needed more of it! “I mean, I’ll never let him hit me again but that was a good move, to use my own tactics against me, and so soon, not the sort of thing you’d expect from a squire. I think he’ll make a good knight if he really is a good guy like you said“ not that necessarily doubted Chris he just obviously didn’t know Jerome that well.

Lance turned more fully to Chris in surprise at the suggestion. It was true that he didn’t mind teaching, he did feel like he had a lot of give, but maybe that’s just because he was cocky himself. ”Galahad Doesn’t seem very fond of knights so far” he told Chris, although he knew he was only young, didn’t understand it yet. “But I would love to train him” he admitted “My father trained me and I’m glad he did, even if it was annoying at time to have him be my father and my boss” not that that had really changed. “But, I’ve got you!” He pointed out. “I know you’re not a squire but I don’t have time for one of those really anyway” he decided. “I’ve got Galahad to look after, and my father and Elaine,” he said. “I would like to go on some quests though” he admitted, maybe this time round he’d be able to convince his father since he’d been on that mission to rescue Gaheris and well, he had! “Although Nothing major, I’ve been away ages and after what happened whilst I was gone….maybe it’s not a good idea” If something happened to Antonio again then Galahad and Elaine would both be without someone to truly care for them. Especially now the queen had her own baby to look after and Caleb’s own pregnancy was getting closer towards its end. And oh…it really cemented how much of s bad idea this little date was as obviously all this sorry about his family reminded him of Gavin, since she was the threat.

”besides, I also have a busy love life, I can’t add too much more to my plate” He insisted. “I would suggest that we go to the inn this evening To try and pick you up a lady but I can’t, sorry, my date is tonight” yeah, Chris was probably really upset about that. “But don’t worry, we’ll get round to it” he promised. “I know you have like no experience but I’ll Help you out, there’s no need to stress about it” Lance really was just nosy and a bit bossy, and poor Chris was on the receiving end. Lance did just want to help though, he thought he was being nice.

(Ooh, If Gawain does know her, I imagine he probable didn't have a good impression of her. But I think he'd also know better then to go anywhere near her. It might also be fun if Gawain had in the past told Lance he disapproved of his little flings. )

Lance seemed to be thrilled at the idea of training Galahad. A lot of knights probable wanted there sons to follow after them. Would Galahad want to be like his dad? Or maybe he'd have different interests. Would he even be able to follow in his fathers footsteps? Perhaps that was a question for further into the future. Right now, Little Galahad was just a little kid who enjoyed playing with his stuffed animals. Besides, As Lance said. He had Chris! "Oh joy... " Christopher mumbled. Yeah, He had a feeling Lance was going to be dragging him around for a good bit. But hey! Maybe Lance would soon be leaving for a quest and Christopher wouldn't have to worry about him.

Lance did have a distraction for the night. So atleast Christopher would have some breathing room then. But Lance just seemed to insist he wanted to help him with his love life. It was uncomfortable and made Chris shift. Agravain had mentioned his behavior of letting others push him around. Maybe he needed to speak up and set some boundaries? Biting his lip in thought. Chris finally mustered the courage and crossed his arms.

"Listen, I'm sure you have the best intentions. But I... I don't need your help with that kind of stuff. I'm not planning to pursue that crush Caleb told you about. And if I wanted to date someone, I believe I can handle that on my own. " It seems he didn't remember his drunken confession to Lance. Awkwardly shifting. He then stumbled. "I just, I'm not exactly looking for anyone. And I'm glad you enjoy dating around. But I'm not comfortable with you setting me up with someone. " He felt like his words were harsh. But well, He needed to set limits!

(Yeah, I can see them maybe recognising each other and she knows he doesn’t really like her and I think she’d try to annoy him, she liked playing with people. Gawain has probably scolded Lance about his relationships, and obviously this assassin is even worse because it’s not like it’s just a quick relationship, it’s fraternising with the enemy and it’s dangerous.)

Chris was oh so enthusiastic about Lance spending his time on him. Really he should just say if he’d rather Lance back off! He knew he could be a bit pushy but he genuinely just wanted to help and he felt he could improve Chris’ fighting but well….Lance could be a lot at times and maybe wasn’t giving Chris rhe full agency and respect he deserved as a knight in his own right. Lance maybe should let Chris come to him for help rather than force himself into his life and training, but well, maybe it was too late for that now.

Lance frowned as Chris crossed his arms and got so serious and the smile slipped right off his face as Chris talked about his crush. “You better not pursue that crush” Lance warned, voice lacking It’s earlier humour. “Agravain is a married. Man.“ Lance hissed, keeping his voice low just in case anyone came by but they were pretty alone for the moment. So yeah, Lance wasn’t going to pretend he didn’t know who Chris was crushing on and he was making his disapproval clear. Agravain was a man for starters, he might be Less harsh about such matters, but he still didn’t approve, and on top of that, Agravain was married, off limits, and married to a friend of theirs as well. It wasn’t right.

”I am trying to help you” Lance told him seriously. “I’d rather none of my friends went to hell, but your thoughts are sinful snd I’m trying to steer you in a better direction” He just wanted Chris to be happy with someone who wouldn’t condemn him to hell, was that too much to ask? “I thought finding you a lady would help you move on” he explained. “It’s not healthy or right to think about him that way, the sooner you get over it, the better” So yeah, Lance still wasn’t chill about it, but he didn’t seem like he’d do anything too radical hopefully, and he was more concerned than angry about it. Still, might come as a bit of a shock to Chris, although he likely expected such a reaction if it got out.

(Oof, I'm so excited to play Caleb just judging Lance so much over his romance choices. I feel like she's going to forbid him from dating anyone that she hasn't met and approved of. lol. Only way to keep him out of trouble!)

As soon as Lance spoke, Chris felt his chest tightening. He knew? When? How? A wave of panic was rushing threw him. His thoughts were racing. Who else knew? Would his parents find out? His mentor? Agravain? Lance kept talking, expressing his desire to help. That he was sinful. But it was hard to focus on his words. Eventually he drew his gaze to Lance. Speaking quietly "How low do you think I am? " Chris said, Staring at Lance, Almost bewildered. Chris then told Lance. "Do you really think I'd betray Caleb like that? " He had a crush. That was it. Even without considering Agravain's gender. Chris cared about Caleb. He wouldn't hurt her like that.

Christopher then shook his head. Quietly continuing. "I already know I'm going to hell. Even without all this going on. I'm not doing this. I don't want your help. I'm not going to have someone else telling me how sinful I am. That I'm wrong. That I'm bad. I can't do that anymore. " Christopher seemed to have more self esteem issues then he had let on. Oh, He was certain his parents were going to find out. That was what made him tense the most.

Christopher wasn't convinced Lance wouldn't tell, But its not like he could keep him quiet. Christopher then murmured. "I need to be by myself for a bit. " He was terrified. Worried. What would happen to him when word further got out? Who else would Lance tell? Would he try to get him help? Christopher was not convinced any such help would leave him unscathed. Perhaps it was a drastic measure. But maybe putting some distance between things would be good. He could ask for a quest. Avoid the castle. Just something away from this place.

(He probably needs that to be honest, he doesn’t exactly pick the most reputable people snd clearly lets his heart blind his brain when it comes to women he likes. Her snd Antonio could probably bond over their disapproval of Lance’s partners.)

It‘s Not like Lance necessarily thought Chris would try something on Agravain but he didn’t think he should dwell on this crush, Chris needed to move on as quickly as possible. He needed to find a nice girl and move on with his life. Lance didn’t think he was being unreasonable or horrible with the way he spoke to Chris but clearly Chris wasn’t a fan of what was being said. He was standing up to Lance, even if his words were telling of something else wrong in his psyche. Lance frowned at him, going to cross his arms over his chest as Chris tried to get him to back off.

”come find me once you’ve gained a little sense” Lance muttered. He was just trying to help! Lance wasn’t going to tell though. He didn’t want Chris persecuted, he wanted to give him A chance to get on the straight and narrow and sort out his life. He certainly wasn’t going to track down Chris’ parents snd tell them the news. The only person who he might let it slip to was probably Caleb but only because he was close to her and she was also friend with Chris, which was awkward though as she was obviously married to Agravain. But no, he didn’t want to let her know, wasn’t sure what she’d feel. She might not be bothered actually but he wasn’t sure it was fair to tell her just in case.

Lance turned to walk away. So much for helping Chris out today, and for talking to him about his date! Why did Chris have to ruin it by rejecting his help? He’d really worked at bringing Lance’s mood down but no, he wouldn’t let Chris ruin this day for him. He’d go find someone else to hang out with, who wasn’t so ungrateful. Oh, hopefully by tomorrow things were too bad between the pair as Lance would likely be there when Jerome was brought around to Caleb’s.

(Speaking of Lance's bad relationships. Wanna skip to when Lance and Gavin go on there little date? I'm excited to see how things go! )

Lance wasn't happy, But he seemed to be willing to give Christopher some peace. Come find him? No, Christopher figured he'd be keeping his distance from Lance. Things would be okay if he could just avoid him. Oh, But Christopher was sure he'd run into him again if he went to visit Caleb. His mind racing. Christopher needed to think about this. Get a plan before he did anything rash. So, Finally he turned to walk to his room. First course of action? Pack a bag. He wasn't going to run yet. But he wanted things ready. Besides, He didn't want to be near anyone right now. Preferring to just stew in his thoughts.

(Yeah sure, I was gonna suggest that or Arthur and Silas and that going out)

Lance had been patiently waiting all day for his date with Gavin. He’d not really managed to talk to anybody about it which was disappoint but perhaps for the best, it meant no one knew fo try and stop him. He’d put on a fancy shirt and slicked his hair back a bit and applied some nice cologne before going to pick Gavin up. The problem was she was on house arrest but Lance wasn’t going to let that stop him. He walked up to the guard outside her door who was looking at him s but strangely, probably because of his attire. Lance made sure to keep any excitement off his face and instead went with annoyance.

”alexander wants to see her” Lance informed the knight. “I’m to take her to him” The knight looked at him a little dubiously. “Youre relieved if your duty, I don’t know how long she’ll be but I’ll get someone else ro guard her when I bring her back” Lance explained. “Man I hope it’s quick though, I’ve got a date tonight” he muttered to the Knight. Luckily the knight was soon walking off. It’s not like he thought Lance would let her escape, nor did he have much reason not to trust him, plus Alexander did often speak to her and he was a bit too preoccupied for any guard to really check if the story was true.

Anyway, Lance was soon alone outside Gavin’s door and he took a deep breath before knocking. He wouldn’t say he was necessarily nervous but he was full of anticipation. Maybe she’d changed her mind or she was using him to escape? Except Lance was pretty sure he could catch her should she try that. No, he just didn’t really know how this would go and bless his treacherous little heart, he wanted it to go well. He would‘ve Brought her some flowers or something but that would look quite suspicious and well….the date was probably a bit overwhelming anyway. It felt silly and stupid, they shouldn’t be doing this, how had they even got here? Yet at the same time Lance was excited, he’d not been on a date in a while and Gavin, despite her…transgressions, was beautiful and interesting. He was sure they’d get on like a house on fire, at least in one sense.

Gavin couldn't help the mixed feelings that swirled in her mind. Shame and Anger kept bubbling up. But it felt like excitement just had a way of overshadowing them. This was bad, Lance was bad, He had hurt her brother. But she couldn't help the happy anticipation of seeing him again. Of going out on a date. Such was a strange and silly idea. She was under house arrest. She could hardly go to many places for this 'date.' But it was still nice. When had she last been on a date? Before her husband had gotten sick? Perhaps. But that had not carried the same feelings. Sure, Her and her husband loved eachother. But to be honest, It had not been a romantic love. This felt different.

Now, She was scrambling to get ready. To decide what to wear. How fancy was she getting? Or should she be more casual? In the end, She had settled for nice but simple. Though she had spent for too much time deciding. Then focusing on her hair. Should she leave her hair down? Or put it up. Why was this such a hard decision? She was still trying to make a decision when the sound of a knock caused her to jump. He was here! Already? Well, He hadn't given her a exact time of when he'd arrive but Gavin did not feel ready. She hadn't even had a chance to get to her makeup! Thus she stood far to long staring at the door in a sort of bewilderment. Eventually moving forward to the door.

Opening the door. Gavin couldn't help the redness on her face as soon as she caught sight of Lance. He was dressed up all nice and frankly it was hard not to admire him. Why was he so handsome? Gavin wondered how startled she must have looked at the moment. Mentally cursing herself for such flustered behavior. She couldn't just stand there. She needed to say something. "....Hi. " Well, That was something. Was he feeling the same sort of nerves? Maybe. Gavin then told him. "I.. Uh... Didn't have a chance to put on makeup. So I should- " She began, Gesturing towards into her room. Though he might not want to wait. So she stumbled. "Or we can go now. "
