Howdy Doody!
Provided you can read my username from the panel presumably to the left of this box, I shouldn’t need to tell you my name.
What I will provide, however, is what I’m here for.
Imagine, if you will, you’re a scientist aboard a research vessel travelling through uncharted regions of space when you pick up a strange relic from a wasteland of a planet. Something, as it happened, was on that relic, hidden in the cracks. After a brief scuffle involving a hideous mass of what looks to be flesh with more eyes then one would like and more teeth then is strictly necessary, you manage to contain it with some help. Over the following month, you study, poke and prod at it for all its worth. Then one day, when you head into the containment chamber, the glass is shattered.
And you think you can hear growling behind you…
In short, I would like to find some brave volunteers to crew the research vessel Valiant as it picks up and then tries to stop what they’ve brought aboard. Of course, on a vessel like this, you’d need more then researchers to run the ship. I’ve tried to list some possible roles below:
-Researcher (duh)
-Security Officer
-Navigator
-Chef
-Mechanic
-Crewman (Manual Labor and the like)
-First Mate
-Captain (TAKEN)
-Medical Staff
etc, etc.
Lore N’ stuff (Probably gonna get added onto up until the start of the RP)
General Valiant Info: The Valiant belongs to a super-corporation which I’m workshopping the name for. The ship is primarily a research vessel, as it’s Ill equipped for long stays on a planet. It mostly hangs in orbit and sends vessels down. It employs anyone from any species that prove useful. It does have a lot of humans, though. There are also synthetic life forms, such as menial labour androids and an artificial intelligence named Junior.
Alien Stuff: Aliens do exist, in a variety of forms. The Valiant does employ them under its crew, due to some species having increased neural capacities or other useful features (feel free to make a species, so long as it’s not ridiculously powerful)
As for the setting, there’s nothing directly relevant in terms of the actual setting that would be relevant. Of course, there are some details I am withholding because spoilers are a thing. Fortunately, these won’t impact the character creation process. Same old, same old space physics. No oxygen (provided you breathe it), you die, space is cold and lethal, try not to get cycled out the airlock and do try not to cause any explosive decompression.
Earth/Sol is a thing. As it’s the origin for humans, it’s probably pretty well known amongst them. Humans have spread our fairly far, being seen as one of the most active species, bouncing across star systems from the day they were able to. Sol itself is the main home for the Human governing body.
As for factions, I’ve managed to come up with the following (but feel free to make some of your own).
USC: The United Systems Conglomerate is a human-founded governing body, consisting of majority of sentient life forms. It’s the main governing body of the known universe, like The Republic from Star Wars. Their headquarters is what has become of the original ISS, being built upon with more and more docking alien craft over a very long time (The station has become one of the largest cities known). Said Space Station shifts location constantly, but most species have a governing headquarters on their own planet.
IPC: The Independent Planet Coalition is a loosely formed group of planets who have broken off from the USC. They’re essentially the largest independent faction, but there are some peaceful planets that stay to themselves and don’t really do anything. Tensions between them and the USC are high, but haven’t reached a boiling point yet. Their headquarters is a moon over an uninhabitable gas giant somewhere to the outer reaches of the galaxy.
Certic-Umbra Corp: Also known as either the CUC or just ‘The Company’, Certic-Umbra is the largest mega corporation currently on market, running their own colonies and sometimes even holding entire planets. They specialise in everything, with divisions set to make weapons, or refine materials, or create ships. Most everything you buy from retailers is made by them. Most retailers are either directly or indirectly owned by them or by a dozen other, smaller companies that they own. As a recent effort, they’ve launched the Valiant.
Technology is fairly advanced, as one would expect. Weaponry sits at a level where you still need ammunition, but at this point, said ammunition is either gas for plasma weapons, energy cells for laser-based or some form of hyper-developed bullet for the more common projectile weapons. The average person isn’t fully kitted out in augmentations, but they have likely received surgery from a mechanical doctor, use a holographic touch-pad for a phone and drive around using hovering vehicles.

Blood, gore and the accompanying descriptions and actions that would cause such things are to be expected.
