--1+ paragraph posts. No exceptions. Consider 1 paragraph to be equivalent to a one line reply, but don’t kill yourself to give me 8 paragraphs. Just meet the minimum and we’ll get along just fine.

--you must write in third person.

--I’ll be honest...I may drop you after the first post if your writing style is not compatible with my own. Although, you should know if it’s not after you read my plot summary.

--Personal pet peeve: try not to begin every sentence with a personal pronoun, please. Do your best.

--------------------------------------------------------

Violence, complete dishonesty, profanity, dark themes, sarcasm, betrayal, plot twists, WTF moments, awkward moments, inconsiderate gestures, side characters, death, intricate backstories, complex/contradictory characteristics, fantasy, romance, obscure vocabulary, and the like are thoroughly permitted and encouraged. Make it dark and amusing. Don’t be afraid of upsetting me or screwing with my character, for I will most definitely do the same to you. Hell, you can go totes cray—as some teens would say—with your unannounced surprises. For example:

Hey, you know the plot you laid out way back when?

Well, yes, actually. I did write it, after all.

Yeah, about that… She’s not doing what you originally planned. She was actually sent by the Olympians to assassinate you. *stabs character* Good day sir.

*WTF moment* Oh… okay, then. You’d best prepare for my retaliation. It will come later… Character: *Stares in horror at the knife embedded in his forehead—though not very well, as it’s rather difficult to stare at one’s own forehead…* You do realize demons don’t die in the normal sense, right?

And so forth.

The Plot:

--------------------------------------------------------

There are many assorted contracts that can be signed by a human in hell, just as there are many different creatures and types of demons in hell. One of these contracts—the retrieval contract—is brought to the attention of a woman who recently suffered the misfortune of losing a lover. Whether he was a husband, boyfriend, or illegitimate paramour is up to your discretion. Upon hearing the promise of the contract—that is, retrieving her lover from the grimy clutches of death and returning him to life—she scurries down to the gates of hell to learn more.

Learning nothing else from the guardian of the gate, besides the fact she’s bound to the ever mysterious contract from the moment she passes the threshold, she courageously ventures in anyway. It isn’t long before she meets Satan—in all his ginger aristocrat glory—and he explains that all she has to do is find her lover to bring him back to the realm of the living. It’s not very complicated at all. And—because he is such a gentleman—Lucifer even makes the whole ordeal easier for you. How so? He gives you the option of choosing a guide. Hell is rather hard to navigate, after all. Even he finds himself lost on a regular basis.

It’s rather simple. Just find a creature—there are millions of them, really—and hug them. Or were you supposed to kiss them? It was some display of affection like that. You’ll figure it out. No—you’re supposed to bite them. That’s it. But perhaps not. You look rather intelligent, he’s sure you’ll figure it out. It’s simple. After you… er… do the thing that binds them to you, they’re… well, bound to you. That creature will be your guide and answer any questions you may have and protect you while the contract stands. They’ll tell you how commands work and how to alter the control you have over them. Just ask.

He suggests you get a dangerous one. It will scare the others off. Of course, then you’d have to go through the process of binding a dangerous creature… maybe you should choose a less menacing demon. The choice is yours. Best of luck, miss.

It isn’t terribly long after that you come across a man—at least, he looks like a man—tending an assortment of other creatures. A menacing black dragon, headless and rotting horses, horned giants, gargoyles, misty spirits, walking skeletons of many different species, and cyborg appearing things, to name a few. It was like a dark Narnia combined with zombie horror movies and a little Game of Thrones. Assuming this is where you choose your creature, you walk up to the… caretaker person, for lack of a better title.

It becomes rather apparent he doesn’t like you.

Have I summoned thy interest?

In case you were wondering, this is what Satan looks like.

Ooh. Personally I rather think this RP plot you've conjured up seems rather good, and definitely very interesting. I would quite enjoy trying to do this with you, if you want of course, but then again, I'm assuming you would want to considering you made this post in the first place.. Ah, I'm rambling again, anyways, like I've said, this seems really cool and I'd love to roleplay it out with you.

Actually, someone PMed me wanting to do this, though she hasn't messaged me back yet. I could pit you two against each other with a first post and award the partnership to the one I like the most. It's a little cut-throat, but hey. I never really believed in first come first serve.

Yep. We could do that if you'd like.

You know, they should add a delete button to posts. It would help avoid fights to the death, you know? I guess I could've edited it, though... Hm. Live and learn.

Heh. Cut-throat fight to the death..? Seems interesting. I suppose I'd be up for it, seeing who could write up a better first post. It would definitely prove to be interesting to say the least.

They really do need to add a delete option. It'd make things quite a bit easier, but hey, there's no fun in easy, at least, not in my opinion.

Heh.... *evil laugh*

I must admit... I was expecting a different reaction. Usually people make a break for it when competition arises. But not you. Indeed. I think the possibility of certain death has only intrigued you more.

How exciting.

Well, lets see what you've got. You could opt to start it when you enter the gate and meet Satan, or you could start when you first see the caretaker. It's really up to you. Have fun. Oh yeah--here's what I told the other person:

I like to reveal things in-story, so feel free to post a simple name/appearance skellie. You could even withhold the name, if you want to be mysterious or lie for some reason. Yep. Backstory can be kept to yourself and revealed as you please.

This came up once, so I reckon I should address it. There isn't any electricity, cell phones, plumbing, or anything of the like in hell. Think of it like the 18 century or something. The era of the world your character come from can be whatever you chose.

Here's a little hint I forgot to mention, but I figure it's fair since this is a public thread. This applies to the winner too, for future reference. Pay close attention to my wording. You'll notice I said "world" instead of opting for "earth." Does that mean anything? Sure it does. In the realm of imagination, there are many worlds besides earth. Characters can originate in any of them...

MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR, or something like that. Okay, that was lame. Oh well. Real champions don't erase their mistakes. Or was it idiots that did that? Hm...

Ehehe, I like challenges, and this one has definitely got my interest piqued.. I'm going to guess you want me to post all this on here, and if not, well, oh well, because, here it is. Hopefully you'll find it adequate, well, even more than that.

Actual Post:

Time passed. Seconds, minutes, hours..? She wasn't sure. She wasn't sure about, well, about anything really, let alone how long she'd been standing there, letting the opaque chaos that was the raging thoughts of her mind consume her. What if she took that last step? What if she didn't..? Could she live with a once dead man? Could she live without a once alive man? The mind, her mind, was a curious thing, seemingly having all the questions, but none of the answers. Someone had them though, she knew that. Someone always had the answers, even the ones they didn't know they had. She doubted anyone here would have the right answers, the ones she sought. She knew what she had to do, to find those answers, and suddenly, living without those answers, seemed, like a tortuous way to exist. To live. Not knowing. She didn't think she could do that.

Silent, answer-seeking footsteps had taken her across the threshold before she even realized it. No eternal flames burned her fair complexion, no disfigured beasts came to steal her life away. It wasn't like any of the horrid happenings the dark recesses of her imagination had conjured up. She had stepped into hell, and nothing bad had seemed to happen, in fact, nothing seemed to happen at all. Nothing bad would happen, or so she hoped, but she knew right away, that said particular hope, was a foolish one. Upon turning, her nervous and melancholy, cerulean gaze changed to include surprise. The strange, bored seeming gatekeeper, was gone, or maybe, she was.. She had no clue whether the gate into hell was an ordinary one after all. For all she knew, the gate could be everywhere and nowhere, appearing and vanishing wherever in the realm it pleased. She really didn't know anything, and that both made her curious, and terrified.

Footsteps, light, purposeful, as if someone was deliberately making their presence known, could suddenly be heard coming from behind her, from the direction she would soon be heading. She tensed ever so noticeably, not wanting to turn and see who, or what, was approaching, but she did not want to wait and see what would happen if she did not even more so. A slow, shaky inhale, a brief, focused exhale, and she stifled some of the nerves that threatened to make her sick. She'd crossed the threshold already. There was no point in- A tap on her shoulder was suddenly felt.. Someone/thing, tapping on her shoulder. On. Her. Shoulder. It was, behind her. She whipped around, coming face to face with a man, or, what seemed to be one, a worn out top hat upon his head, a dark glimmer in his eyes, and an oh so charming smirk gracing his lips. There was no demon horns, no elven features, no orc-ish size. He seemed..human.. Although the man was as sinister seeming as he was devilishly handsome.

"Oh! Damn-... You-.. I'm sorry.. You rather frightened me.." She squeaked, withholding the urge to let out a string of curses that would've made even a sailor run for the hills. Calm. She needed to calm herself. She was better than this, stronger than this, braver than this.. Inhale. Exhale. A deep breath, that would hopefully lead to a calmer mind.

"Don't you know not to sneak up on female who's new to hell?" The question left her lips before she'd even fully thought over her words. "You never know, you might get slapped. Dangerous stuff." She added, surprised of her ability to even make a slightly sharp remark in this current, situation, and at how quickly she'd gone from surprised and frightened female, to calm and confident woman.. Maybe she could actually do this, deal with this.. Psh, of course she could.. She had to, after all.. Or else.. Well.. Or else what..? Another question she didn't have an answer to.
