Finally, Kansas. And what a shitshow of a plane journey it was.
During the plane's approach to the airport, a Nightgaunt had somehow found itself a long way from the Calamity Event it had spawned from, in an adjacent state. The flying-type demon had been sucked into one of the plane turbines and caused an emergency landing, and a particularly rough one at that.
Now he sat in the crowded diner, his suitcase already being delivered to the hotel designated by Sicario for temporary accommodation. Sure, he was excited to be here so he could finally meet them, but for now he was tired, resting his head and arms on the counter, passively listening in on the chatter of the Agents around him. They were a healthy mix of Paradigms, Summoners, and Mancers, with him obviously the only Wanderer. Not that anyone would realise. Some were also lower tier Agents, not only identifiable by their lack of Akuma-Keshin abilities but by their much heavier loadouts in order to compensate. Those were the rowdiest ones, and the most annoying. The less experienced of them were also the most likely to cockily start fights with other Agents, in his experience. Being a smaller person had attracted a fair number of confrontations from people trying to fuel their own egos with seemingly easy wins, but by now he'd figured out how to stop being noticed.
He was brought to attention by the glass placed in front of him, looking up to see the chocolate milk he'd ordered. He sat back in the stool and drank it slowly, taking this time to recollect himself. It wasn't the plane landing that had shaken his nerves, nor the Agents around him, but the anticipation. A mix of excitement, anxiety, and uncertainty as he noted how close he now was to meeting his friends. Not long now, he just had to finish up here and then make his way to the hotel where his squad would be rendezvousing in roughly 15 minutes.
He finished the drink and set the empty glass down, then pulling out the card-sized Sicaro-brand PDA. A small and sleek object that was pretty much a pane of glass with a display on it, the Bladed Wanderer sigil showing cleanly on the screen as it logged him in so he could transfer funds to the Diner staff, and then he was off and exiting the building. Might as well get some air in the meantime.
Nightgaunts are a semi-common demon type that were discovered as early as Day Zero. They are typically around 7 feet tall but lack the durability of other demon types, about as easily killable as a human. For this reason they take a stealthy approach to combat, swooping from the air to pluck victims off of the ground, and so ranged weaponry is recommended. In small numbers they pose little threat to a well-prepared Agent, but in a swarm they become truly deadly. |
