Hybrid Roleplays?

RNDM

Has nothing more to say.
Would it be possible to create a 'hybrid' roleplay? Best explained with an example- Fantasy and Worldbuilding. So, say the roleplay was about some new mystery island and a group of people (RPers) crash into it. Lots of cool fantasy stuff in it, like animals, magic, mystic resources, etc. The people explore the island, and eventually empires on it are formed, the worldbuilding part. It is now a hybrid roleplay, as it is still the same fantastical island, but now it has multiple nations on it, different cities, wars, etc. Would there be any way of making something like this work (forum-wise)?

It sounds like a really cool concept, though it might be hard to keep interest for a whole thing since worldbuilding structure is a bit of a niche genre.

As for which forum it would go in, I believe you'd put it in fantasy because 1) that's where the roleplay will begin and will be the setting for the latter part as well and 2) because you're probably more likely to get interest in a Fantasy RP that might continue into a more world-building thing than trying to get players from nation building to take interest in a more character-based beginning.

Thanks! I'm still not actually sure whether I'll go ahead with this kind of thing, I was more just curious.

On Rpnation the genres indicate SETTING of roleplay so you will put a roleplay in whichever setting most reflects that roleplay.

( the definition of each genre is put at the top of their individual sub-forum )

Fantasy is defined as : Roleplays containing fantastic or whimsical settings that are not grounded in real life. You can expect roleplays with magic, mythical creatures and worlds entirely unlike our own in this category.

Realistic/Modern is defined as : Roleplays containing settings that are very similar to the real world. These settings still might have some minor fantasy or futuristic elements in them, but they are not the focal point of these roleplays. You can expect this category to be associated with games revolving around slice-of-life, historical fiction, detective dramas and superhero stories.

Futuristic is defined as : Roleplays containing settings with more advanced technology and societies than in real life. You can expect roleplays in this category to be associated with science fiction, space travel, cyberpunk, and extraterrestrials.

The rest are again defined in their specific subsections.

So for instance if your roleplay has a fantasy setting as defined by "a fantastic or whimsical setting not grounded in real life" than it will go in the Fantasy sub-forum regardless of the plot of the actual roleplay.

The genres have nothing really to do with like plot or story specifics and are more built around what the setting for the roleplay is.

Except.....Worldbuilding will be an inevitable part of any RP you encounter unless it's done in a pre-established setting (Still, subtle worldbuilding details can be uncovered as people use writing to evolve the details of the setting even further.)

The example you provided above definitely fits into fantasy.

Have you heard a game called Microscope? It’s a bery interesting game that is more like ancooperative worldbuilding game! You take turns adding elements into a setting, usually restricted to determined parameters that all players agree on, and so long as it does not contradict any previous element. You can also roleplay out scenes to get a better understanding of an element, usually by first setting up a questjonn you want to b answered :)
