CHAPTER I

Somewhere between the North and South Pacific oceans, surrounded by little island resorts,

the Island was so tiny it was not found on an atlas nor on GoogleMaps.

In the 2000s, it was developed into a private summer camp for upper class tweens

as a swift response to affluenza and drug addictions.

This year was their fifteen run. This year was going to be cut short, however.

A heavy tropical storm was heading their way.

This year was Thea's third year.

THEA

pic.gif

Thea thought about the three or four staffs and campers who had accidents around the Island's jagged rocks and reefs

and survived with scars to show for it; nothing to write home about.
Death was never a presence here.

walking-on-beach-gif.gif

Death did not linger. But Cassandra gave many people their share of misery.

If they weren't careful, Cassandra got them sent home early to deal with parents and shame.

The whistleblower was always let off the hook because those publicly humiliated had much more dirt than the staff cared to handle.

Her cruel means to efficient ends meant lesser liability. To the staff and campers, Cassandra seemed so... untouchable.

tumblr_mo45a5EBu31r5h04to1_500.gif

"I don't care if you hate me," Cassie said last year when she had Pamela sent home.

In the night, everyone were shaking their heads.

"What? Someone has to clean up."

This year, no one was surprised to see that Pamela came back with icy demeanor.

Every chance she got, she made sure to isolate Cassie, leaving her out in the same cold.

The night they threw their last party, they figured out the fruit punch was spiked with vodka.

Most helped themselves while the staff turned a blind eye, but Thea had rathered not.

While she stuck by Rebecca's side the whole night, her eyes wandered over to Cassandra

that had been looking out at the sea in her solitude.

tumblr_myj7knbVQO1r97c2no1_500.gif

In spite of herself, Thea had walked over to her and noticed tears streaming down her cheeks.

"What's wrong?" she was surprised by saying.

Cassie laughed bitterly, "What isn't?" Thea sat next to her. She was speechless.

Cassie noticed her loss for words and cringed with resentment but decided best to say nothing.

Thea thought to ask, "Wanna talk about it? I don't mind."

"It's nothing," Cassie became short with her. Both sighed.

"I'm just... in a bit of trouble with some people. I keep getting these black letters.

They turned out to be death threats. At first, I thought it was some stupid prank."

Thea noticed when she gave pause. "I don't know who's sending them but I might have an idea."

That could be anybody. Thea glanced back.

Cassie caught her looking, "I'm handling it. It's handled, okay?"

"Are you sure? Maybe you should go to the Security Center."

"No, and don't go telling anybody."

This went on between the two like a spiking ping pong until finally Cassie shouted in her face.

Everyone's heads turned in their direction.
Forget this.

Thea staggered back to them, flushed in the face.

In the morning, Cassandra was pronounced missing. No one saw her the whole day.

Her bags had been packed but remained at the foot of her bed.

People became increasingly worried and gossiped through the night.

It was so unusual that curfew was set back so the staff could venture out to look for Cassie.

The following day, in the Cottage Complex, someone screamed.

Everyone gathered to see that some of the staff had been carrying something draped in a white sheet.

They stumbled and dropped Cassie's body with a sickening thud, her red hair sprawling over her blue face.

And there was hush.

THEA

Thea started retching and crouched to the ground.

Oh my god, oh my god ran through her head.

They found her body and dropped it here!

The staff panicked about the silenced campers and ordered them out of the Cottage Complex.

"Immediately!" their cries filled the camp. "Go, go!"

"Jesus. What a
fucking mess you made," someone among the staff said. "Shit!"

Thea staggered through Quad A and stopped. She took a minute to crouch again.

I can't breathe. She trembled from head to toe. I can't think.

Cassandra was dead. Killed, as Isaac heard some say. Whether that was true or not, she was gone. Isaac felt mortified, but focused on not showing it.

In the commotion concerning Cassandra's death, the staff forced the campers out of the Cottage Complex along with Isaac. Feeling at quite a loss, he decided to go to his office to sit down and have a drink.

He ends up only a short distance from the Cottage Complex, at quad B, where he ponders about the meaning of life for a bit.

GODFREY

He watched from a yard away as the body tumbled from beneath the sheet. Her demise looked untimely and was sure to bring speculation to the island.

A strange feeling twisted his guts as Godfrey watched them take her away. He watched Thea stagger in the direction of Quad A, but couldn't bring himself to follow.

Instead, he remained at the Cottage Complex, watching the rest of the scene play out.

PAMELA

tumblr_nav7soKu6x1tcy426o1_500.gif

Last night was a blast. Not like last year, thanks to Cassandra, but Pamela had decided not to spare that bitch a single thought more than necessary and have the best time, like, ever.

So last night was a blast.

But the morning? Damn racket from the start. She had barely the time to comb her hair after dressing up, already planning to give someone a what for, but when she got downstairs and saw Cassandra's body on the floor with people screaming, her mind forgot all about her own appearance in a split second - mission impossible otherwise. If anyone looked at Pamela at that moment, they would see a genuinely shocked expression.

The girl went for the exit following everyone else, not even noticing if everyone was there to begin with. She spotted that quiet guy, what was his name...? Oh right, Godfrey... Standing there in silence. He'd be quite something if he weren't so freaky... Always quiet. And Pamela could swear she caught him stalking her that one time.

Finally, after glancing one more time at Cassandra's body, Pamela stepped outside but didn't get far. Isaac was there, presumably heading for his office. It didn't look like he'd seen her. Pamela wasn't sure if she should talk to him.

Shane

tumblr_lygaw0YBO41rn173ko1_500.gif

He sighed, knowing this would add a bunch of problems for him. "Why did it have to be on my watch?" He thought to himself, feeling frustrated. Shane had been under a lot of stress lately, and this does not help in any way. He was the security head, and now everything falls upon his shoulders.

He went in the Cottage Complex, seeing as most, if not all, of them are there. "Okay, listen up! We'll be setting a curfew from now on. Nobody leaves without me knowing where they went, and nobody leaves alone." He said to them, wanting to keep everything under control. "Nobody will go near the body, we'll just leave it as it is. Anyone who will be seen in the crime scene without permission is a suspect, understood?" He said, his voice authoritative and stern.

LEX

Another shaky breath and Lex was able to force down her tears. Her make-up was runny and giving her raccoon eyes. She swallowed hard and walked over to Shane in a moment when he was alone. The officer's words were on repeat in her ears. Picking at the fiber in her sleeves, Lex glanced from him to the floor. "Can you tell me what happened to Cassandra?" Lex asked. "I was her best friend. I have to know." Her breath stilled.

"Oh my gosh. Has anyone told her parents yet?" She glanced around for a familiar face, but the others were mostly strangers. Or people who never liked Cassandra anyway. "Just tell me how I can help." Lex said after a moment. The acids in her stomach threatened to revolt violently.

"Excuse me," Lex clamped a hand over her mouth. She rushes off in the direction of Serene Shores to throw up.

KILEY

tumblr_m6p9vjgWq71rnwqsxo1_500.gif

Kiley stared at Cassandra's body.

This can't be happening.

She was so shocked. She was mortified. She looked awful, her red hair sticky and wet and sprawled across her face. Kiley felt this icky lump in her throat, and no matter how many times she swallowed it wouldn't go down. She bent down and grabbed her knees, taking deep breaths, trying not to throw up. Finally she regained her posture, standing up and deciding she needed to walk. Or run. Somewhere else. Away from here. Away from her.

Kiley starts to stumble towards Quad E, near the cottage complex.

Need. To. Breathe.

"How very sad." Said Isaac with a stern, thoughtful face to no one in particular. He marched on to his office and the more he thought about Cassandra's fate, the more his throat ached. He though of what she said to him not that long ago before her death, which only furthered the ache. It was all so terrible, or at least it seemed so to him.

He gets to the Counsel Office, sits down and draws a bottle of brandy the security confiscated from a group of teenagers last year.

His thoughts rush to Pamela, who he has not seen since before the body was discovered. She was probably still back near the Cottage Complex.

Isaac ponders if he should go and try to find her, whilst slowly enjoying the glass of brown, clear liquid.

PAMELA

When Lex rushed right past her, Pamela was presented with a choice. After several long moments, she threw one meaningful look after Isaac and then followed in Lex's footsteps. She could always catch the counselor later.

"Lex! Hold up!" she called out, catching up to the other girl. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Pamela asked, looking concerned.

THEA

pic.gif

Thea felt a sudden chill as she watched the counselor strut down the trail.

Isaac had spoken something indistinct, something she couldn't tell.

Or was that the wind picking up? She rubbed her arms and glanced over her shoulder.

Several gathered in Quad B, and she was alone in Quad A.

She figured it best to talk to someone right now. Especially after what happened that night.

Cassie caught her looking. "I'm handling it. It's handled, okay?"

No. It was not okay. Thea slowly realized that the killer still walks.

She shivered out loud, "Yeah. Better talk to the counselor."

Thea stepped inside the Counsel Office, door opening in.

"Oh," she said, seeing the brandy. "I'm sorry, I just... um, can I talk to you?"

Damn it! He thought to himself. Who'd even try to kill that girl? Well, he can clearly see the possible motive here. That girl has a penchant for being a little too nosy, but to go as far as kill her? The reason must have been very big.

He sighed, starting to lose his cool. Too many people, and being the head of security, he knew they will flock him later, asking him questions and all those nonsense. "Better get some peace and quiet while I still have an opportunity to." He said to himself, heading to Quad E for a quick.

LEX

Lex chomped on her bottom lip but she hung back to greet Pamela. She felt a little traitorous. Her and Cassandra weren't exactly friends. "I don't know how to answer that." Lex said. "Someone killed my best friend. How am I supposed to feel?" Taking her frustration out on Pamela wasn't helping things. Lex ran a hand through her hair and calmed down. "I want to know what happened to her. So I'm going to find out who did this." She crossed her arms. "You can help me look for clues if you want."

She makes it to Serene Shores.

The beach was beautiful and as calm as Lex remembered it. A black object on the white sand made her turn her head. Leslie arched an eyebrow. "What the...? She scooped up a letter. It was soaked and she held it pinched between her thumb and index finger. The words CAS------DRA were faint on the cover. "Oh, crap. Pam? Come look at this." Lex tried to open the letter but the ink had bled too much to read.

KILEY

Kiley decided to go to the Security Center, maybe she would be able to find some water there to drown out the bit of throw-up she was tasting.

When she got there, immediately she spotted a jug of water and rushed over to it, grabbing one of those small paper cups and filling it up over and over again until she could no longer taste her breakfast. Finally she
recollected herself, taking a final deep breath before leaning on the desk in the room and trying to process what just happened.

PAMELA

Lex's answer was predictable, but it also made perfect sense. Either way, Pamela would have to wait until she caught up with the other girl in a minute.

Just us well. A chance to get her thoughts in order.

ISAAC

Before he could say anything, Thea stormed out of his office. Unsure if he should believe the words of someone obviously under a significant amount of stress, he decided to go and try to find Pamela, or anyone really, to see what she knew about Cassandra's death.

He left his office, locking it behind him and headed back towards the Cottage Complex. It didn't take long to find Pamela as she was standing on the path leading to the complex, seemingly lost in though.

"Pamela!" Isaac shouted, hoping to get at her attention.

Blake

Blake runs to the Cottages after hearing about the death of Cassandra. He didn't expect her to be murdered, it was all rushing too fast. Yeah he knew some people on the beach couldn't stand Cassandra to the point they wished she was gone but he didn't expect someone to actually get rid of her. He starts looking for one of the campers so they can tell him where he could find the body. He may not know who killed Cassandra but he sure does want to see the damage they have done to her. Once he gets there he sneaks through the other campers who still came back to just mourn over her body, the body of Cassandra was astounding. Black sand under her nails. White seashell fallen out of her mouth. No one remembers which beach that is from. This affected him in a different way from the others. He moves closer to the body and tries to get a better look of it but is pushed away before he could even examine her body more.

Lex wrung the envelope in her hands. Her pacing left sandal trails in the sand. This place wasn't giving her any answers. Lex's frantic searching was far from conclusive though. She was trying not to think about Cassandra and it was having the opposite effect. The shadow of her best friend's face appeared every time she closed her eyes. Lex started walking back toward the center of the island.

She ended up between the Cafeteria and Cottage Complex.

PAMELA

Pamela is caught off guard by the counselor's (unt)timely return. He just suddenly appeared next to her.

"Hey." she says. "I wanted to talk to you, about... you know." There was only one thing she could have meant. Well, two actually, but one more likely than the other.

KILEY

proxy.php

Kiley leaves the Security Center, starting to feel slightly claustrophobic in the room. She needed fresh air, she was still trying to piece together what happened.

Cassandra is dead.

She walked away from the Security Center towards the Cold Bluffs. Just to get some fresh air and see the ocean. That always calmed her down.

They found her body. She's dead.

Kiley pushed herself farther even though she felt terrible, her stomach twisting around and she was sweating.

Gone.

Kiley stopped to retch on the ground, not even that far from the Security Center.

ISAAC

Isaac enters the Cottage Complex and looks around. Other staff members were still gathered around the body with a few of the visitors scattered about.

Isaac saw Blake for the first time being interested in a person, even if she was dead. He was trying to push through the staff, to no avail since they seemed to want to keep everyone away from the body.

Isaac decided to approach Blake and see what he knew about Cassandra's death, or at least about her body;

"Blake, do you have a moment?"

With her thoughts in disarray, it is taking Pamela a bit longer to reach the coast. She's about halfway there but at least she'll have things figured out by the time of her arrival.

Blake

Blake turned around and looked at Issac then nodded before walking away from the body and the mourning campers inside the Cottage. He crosses his arms and looks at Issac "What is it that you wanted to talk about?" he asked Issac looking into his eyes then back at the body still trying to find more clues or evidence on her body. He gave up for now since some people blocked his view and returned his gaze back at Issac. He might get some more clues from Issac.

REBECCA

tumblr_m9qjmtaaSB1qa0j8xo1_500.gif

"I know when you're lying, you have a tic," Rebecca said coolly. "I know you killed her."

She tossed a black letter and it flew with the wind, carrying out to the restless sea.

"Only you?" said the person standing before her.

Her eyes widened at her fatal mistake.

Hands shot out with the thunder and wrapped around her pretty throat.

They dug in, each finger, and left the bruised mark of strangulation.

RIP Rebecca. Her body was found and brought to Cottage Complex.

THE DEAD

CHAPTER II

THE STORM

-begins-

The storm has arrived.

It shoved up enormous tides and washed away the corner beaches.

The black sand and white seashells floated around the sinking Marvel Coast.

By now, the crucial clues from that particular beach is long gone.

The killer(s) will rest a little easier tonight, the blue faces of Cassandra and Rebecca haunting the back of their mind.

Soon, they'd be home free. That is, if they play their cards right.

The rest devoted to hunting them down would give up on the beaches for clues.

They would now turn all their focus on all areas before the evidence is gone.

Cassandra twitched a smile to the person standing before her.

She fanned out several black letters and said, "These are cute."

She listened and shook her head, "You can't kill me."

"Especially not here," Cassie said. "Not on this island."

"Also," she pointed up nonchalantly, "we're on camera."

She stared for a while, a long time, at the person before her.

Her clever smile began to fade.

"Impossible. They'd catch you."

Her eyes lowered.

Her smile grew even wider.

"They'd catch both of you."
