Fantasy Hunter's Moon: The Sin & Sentence [IC] [CLOSED]

Inari adjusted her stance and began hacking at the priest's leg, like it was a tree trunk, intent on severing the limb if it took her all day. ["Come on, fucker, your head will be mine so give up already!"]

The group continued the fight, ramping up their attacks in a effort to cut down the guards so the could focus on the Priest. Loque chased down her target, eventually latching to the demon and ripping a chunk out of its back. Jakob would step in a moment later, cracking the demon across the side of the head before planting buckshot inside its skull at point blank. Henderson, meanwhile, tackled a demon to the ground and punched it a few times before Wesley leaped in and beheaded it with his ninjato. Two more guards down.

Senya soon slew another, driving her sword through a guard and setting it ablaze. The demon collapsed, yelling out as he was engulfed in flames before growing silent. As Senya slew the demon, Seriphine and Vincent swapped to a new target, quickly attacking it. Once more Seriphine's blade carved gashes in the guard, while Vincent's rifle sounded off as he fired the weapon. Nearby, Godrun drove her sword into a guard yet again. Riberta would be the one to finish off the demon that Seriphine and Vincent were attacking, grabbing the creature and ripping its spine out with her claws before tossing it aside. Riberta felt rejuvenated, really, thanks to Venextos casting a healing spell nearby. Still, she had three remaining guards still trying to eliminate her.

Hudson, Inari, and now Anya focused on attacking the Priest, hitting the tall demon from all angles. Anya slashed at the creature, her claws ripping through the robe and into flesh. Meanwhile, Inari was chopping at the Priest's legs repeatedly, trying to cut the Priest down to size. Hudson struck from behind with his bastard sword, prompting the Priest to try and retaliate by swinging one of his long arms at him. Thankfully, he missed.

As Senya struck down a church guard she breathed quickly, noticing the others were slaying their enemies one by one. But celebrating will come later as the Dragon Karnax still craves judgement. The Red Warden turned to see Gödrun attack one of the guards.

She marched her way towards the guard, hands clenching Dark Shard and attempted to slash horizontally.

The priest's swipe of his bony limb was sidestepped by Hudson, and he soon would retaliate by performing several more slashes to his midsection. As far as he could tell with his staff broken he would pose little threat to the group. Out the corner of his eye he could see that the guards' numbers were thinning. They were winning.

Inari was letting loose a torrent of incoherent screaming and curses in her own language as she continued to mercilessly hack at the priest's leg, using all her strength to tear through his limb to sever it. Each strike fell upon the same spot, over and over, and the muscles of her arms rippled from the exertion.

Loque looks over to the priest and sees Hudson, Inari, and Anya all slashing and tearing him apart like a merciless street gang beat down. There’s really nothing she can do to help since they have this covered very well. Since he’s going to be very dead soon, she checks on Riberta and notices she still needs assistance fighting off the remaining demons, so Loque closes in on the weakest one. She leaps at him, trying to knock him to the ground while also aiming her extended mouth towards its forehead.

Henderson got up from the corpse of the guard. That takes care of that one. Reaching out with a massive paw he grabbed another guard by the shoulder to turn it around for a punch.

With Riberta getting healed properly, as well as most of the guards being taken care of, Venextos could finally focus on aiding Takato who was still lying on the ground. As Venextos made his way over to the Oni, he saw that he was still alive but his condition wasn't improving all that much. As such, the wizard continued his work on trying to stabilize the Oni.

------
The group continued to thin the ranks of the priests, while the others focused on cutting down the demonic priest. Senya and Loque both found themselves charging the same guard, and both seemed to miss as the guard noticed them and managed to dodge. He didn't dodge Gödrun, however, as she continued to shove her sword deep into the torso of the guard as it punched clean through his armor. Riberta would eliminate him afterwards, snatching him up with both hands and slamming his spine down onto her knee. His spine shattered instantly, and she slammed him onto the stone floor before delivering a vicious curb stomp to the creature's head. Squashing it like a bug.

Henderson focused on one of the other guards, whom couldn't focus on the large hybrid any longer. As he snatched the guard around and punched him, the guard retaliated by striking Henderson across the face with his weapon. The guard was then shot three times by Vincent, whom was nearby. The other guard was attacked by Wesley and Seriphine, both striking it with their bladed weapons as it turned and hit Gödrun.

Hudson and Inari continued to strike at the Priest, both carving gashes into the demon, alongside the rabid werewolf that was Anya. The Priest struck back soon enough, delivering a vicious kick to Inari. She managed to strike back as she went flying, her sword slicing through the knee joint of the Priest and crippling him. Meanwhile, Venextos attempted to revive Takato once more. His attempt failed once again. Extensive concentration and time would be needed to revive the Oni back to health.

"Ah, FUCK! NO!" grunts Loque angrily at her failure to acquire some delicious and delectable living brain food, becoming very upset after seeing whatever's left of it now was greasy grey mush underneath Riberta's hairy feet. No worries though, even after Riberta's turned into a furry killing machine, there's still somehow guards about and even the priest too is still alive despite getting a nice beat down. Again, she goes for one of the weaker ones with her axe drawn. Not because they wouldn't put up a fight of course, but because it'd be one less enemy to worry about.

["Come on, bitch, I'm gonna-"] Inari was harshly cut off as she was punted by the priest, sailing back through the air, all the while screaming wildly and flailing her sword at the thin air until she hit the ground and rolled. She managed to keep a good grip of Kioshi throughout the ordeal, and she jumped back up to her feet quickly. Nothing was broken - but she felt pretty damn battered. Her hair had gotten a little more tattered from hitting the ground.

["Alright... you're fucked now."]

Inari brought her katana up, but sheathed it. The spirit blade sensed it was being returned to its scabbard without having fed to its desire, and an unnatural force vibrated into her arm in an attempt to keep it from being placed back. Once it was in, however, it could no longer resist. She drew her tanto instead, flipping it over so that the blade pointed down. A moment's pause was given over to stretching her arms and shoulders to work out any knots in the muscle before she took off sprinting back towards the priest. As much as she wanted to chop this overgrown freak down into little bite sized pieces of sashimi, she'd have to do better.

The kitsune warlord ran back towards the priest, but intended to get an approach in from behind, and when she neared him she leapt up and angled her tanto to stab him in the back. If she couldn't bring his head down to her, she'd crawl up to it. She was prepared for quite the battering, so she dug her claws in if she could with the intent to crawl up the priest's back and stab him in the neck.

As Hudson finished the follow-throughs of his slashes, he turned to see Inari get punted away and onto the floor. Good. Her screaming was becoming extremely grating and any interruption to that was solace. Though spotting her get up so quickly got the hunter to groan lowly.

Regardless the priest was getting particularly cheeky if he was going to try forcing off his melee opponents likrethat. Preemptively backstepping, he unfurled a few meters of chain and began to twirl the flail forcefully. It was time to let the bastard burn. Momentum gathered, he whipped the holy artifact toward the priest.

She and Loque missed during their charge, seeing the others do the job for them. One of the church guards fell and it looks like there were two guards left. She switched focus on the strongest guard alive, putting away her sword and gestured a quick sign. In a few seconds, Senya created a small fireball just for the enemy. She immediately threw the fireball to the guard, hoping it can strike.

Frustrated that he wasn't getting anywhere with the critically injured Oni, Venextos figured that it was the fighting and the ruckus that was preventing him from being most effective. The sooner it ended, the sooner Takato could be brought back. And so, Venextos turned around and created a purple spear that seemed to be dripping wispy smoke from it and launched it at the priest.

The Cathedral of Sheol - The Nave (Main Hall) - Boss Battle - TURN 7 (ENEMY)
The Priest = 2. Misses Riberta (Ruthless Warlord.)

Soon, the remaining demon guards that protected the priest were being eliminated. Loque's axe embedded itself into the side of the guard she had targeted, followed by Gödrun and Wesley's blades. Finally, Seriphine swooped in and delivered the killing blow with her swords. She delivered two slices across the demon's ankles, and swung for the neck as the creature collapsed. Her blades sliced through its neck like a pair of scissors, beheading it and sending the head rolling across the floor. Meanwhile, Senya and Henderson moved in to slay the remaining demon. Henderson, wanting payback for the cut across his face, delivered a shattering blow to the demon's chest. His armor caved inward, forming an impact mark where Henderson's fist had connected. Senya's fireball hit the demon next as he stumbled, lighting him on fire. And then, the final blow came from Jakob. He fired off a shotgun blast, the pellets ripping through the demon's leg and effectively blowing it off. Then, he pumped the weapon and fired once more at the demon's head. Just like the fire elemental, its head exploded and smeared across the floor. All that remained was a burning, headless corpse.

Now the entire group could focus their efforts on the Priest himself. As Inari, Hudson, and Anya already were. Inari, jumping at the Priest's back, latched on and embedded her tanto into his torso. The Priest groaned in pain, attempting to grab at her with his hands as Hudson slung his flail at the demon. The Priest saw it coming, and quickly moved out of the way so that it would miss. Right back into Anya's claws. She sliced at him once more, rending his flesh as he stumbled about trying to get Inari off. A moment later, a purple spear-like bolt of magic hit the Priest, followed by two hunting rounds from Vincent's rifle. And then Riberta slammed into the Priest, driving her claws into the Priest's side and nearly lifting him into the air. He swung back at Riberta, which she easily avoided as she yanked her claws back out and hopped backwards.

Hudson cursed under his breath as the priest sidestepped his flail, twisting his leg to shift his stance so that he could draw the chain back again. Catching it deftly he twisted his ankle and spread his legs, the retrieval of the flaming flail acting as backward momentum for his next swing. Twirling it overhead, he swung forcefully to deliver a crushing blow to the priest's center mass.

The last of the guards went out violently, and finally it’s time for the priest to die the same, or perhaps worse now that everyone is ganging up on him. Taking a note from Inari, Loque continues hacking away at the spot on the Priest’s leg Inari had been cutting into previously to make him fall like a tree.

Henderson eyed up the priest. He was the last one standing, but still posed a threat. Maybe if he was disarmed he wouldn't be so tough. A sadistic smile creeped up on his face as he dashed towards the priest.

The plan was simple. Grab one of his hands and pull while taking a large bite from his shoulder. Should make for a nice appetizer and of course. Disarm him.

Inari held on with great force, not intending to let go for anything. Using her tanto and claws, she tries to crawl her way up the priest's back to reach his neck so that she can stab him with her dagger repeatedly.

------
The final blows were soon delivered to the Priest, as the group continued to try and cut the tall demon down. Riberta lunged in, swiping viciously at the priest. Her claws carved through the armored plating on the demon's upper chest beneath its robe, ripping through the flesh beneath. Vincent would then plant a few more shots into the demon, one of them knocking the helmet off the Priest's head. His head was quite similar to that of a skull, except still covered in skin and with two demonic eyes bulging from his eye sockets. Two small horns had been beneath the helmet, barely jutting up from the priest's skull. His eyes rolled about in his head, looking in all directions as they were suddenly revealed to the light inside the cathedral.

Soon, Loque delivered a chop with her axe that would cleave the demon's leg in two. As he fell sideways, Hudson's flail missed its mark yet again, sailing right by. Henderson also missed, grabbing at air as the demon fell. And then, as the demon sat up on his stump of a leg and his remaining knee, Inari arrived at her destination. She drove her tanto into the demon's neck several times, stabbing the demon like a wild animal. Then, as the priest gagged on his own blood and tried to clutch at his throat, Inari drew her sword and drove it straight down through the top of the demon's head. It pierced its skull, driving down till the end of the blade burst through into the demon's mouth. The Priest locked up for a moment, and she gave her sword a nasty twist and a jerk. And soon, the demon fell over onto its face. Dead.

Vincent looked about, taking in the damage that the group had caused inside the cathedral. As well as the massacre they had delivered unto the guards. "Good work, everyone. That's one dead priest, and one dead religion in the Abyss." he said after a few moments, looking back to where some of the group was standing in the pulpit.

Years ago...

In the dark of the night, as the moon shined through, a young pupil awoke on his firm bed. It had been some time since his master, Great Hermit of Butoo Mountain, Shan Douzhou (單道周), had taken him in. He had gotten used to living under his master's roof by now, having abandoned the underground that he had only called home for a few years, but at night, he pondered about the things to come. The pupil got out of his bed, wishing for some air before returning to sleep.

As he arrived downstairs and approached the door outside, he found it already open - his master was awake too. Peaking out, he found him staring at the moon.

"[Young one, awake you are?]" Master Shan spoke, surprising the pupil.

"[Y-yes...]" he responded, prompting the hermit to pat the space next to him.

"[Come, sit,]" which the pupil promptly did. The two began staring at the moon.

"[The moon,]" his master began, "[how mysterious it can be to us here. So many stories, so many myths, born out of it, from before and after the fall of empire... young one, is something keeping you awake?]" he finally asked.

"[...I wonder about what's to come.]"

"[Oh?]"

"[...I wonder whether I will be up to the task, to face what's to come.]" he said, to which his master responded with a soft smile.

"[Oh, young one, in your time here, you have progressed much. There is great potential in you, to be one with the Dou. Keep your head high, and look forward, let nothing steer you from it. And I will be watching, worry not,]" he said, patting him on the head, "[you'll manage where others hadn't, I'm sure. Now, how about you finally wake up?]"

"[W-wake up?]"

"[Your time isn't up yet, Xiaòzhou.]"

---

Slowly, Takato's eyes opened, his eyelids hurting still from what had happened earlier. Attempting to move hurt, but wasn't utterly painful, only somewhat. He knew however, it would take much to health, if what he felt was true. Turning his head towards the others, he found them in the near distance, where he recalled the priest was... the battle was won... and all he managed to help was assist in destroying an object, and presenting the danger of the fire elemental to the others. It wasn't much, but it happens.

Raising himself up to a sitting position, he looked himself over - his robes had received much outer damage, but internally it appeared fine, his cards safe. His headwear was damaged significantly, though it could be restored with enough time. His bag was fine, the fire concentrating at the front rather than the back. But as he inspected himself, he found his lack of his right arm. Takato sighed upon this sight. In the meantime, unbeknownst to him, the miniscule projectiles, covered in something dark, had coalesced onto Takato's lap, away from the floor, and rather than consider whether they were there in the first place, Takato merely snapped his hand, and formed half an arm and a hand from the horn-based bits, giving himself at least a floating right arm for the moment. He rubbed his face with his left hand, uncaring for the pain, more caring about his forehead - charred, as the rest of his exposed skin, but it appeared where his horns were remained roughly untouched. He chose to continue sitting for just a moment, not just merely to reflect on the battle, but on the dream he had just had.

Senya stood silently, staring at the dead priest in the cathedral . It was an enduring battle, but it looks like they won here. The Red Warden finally decided to speak. She nodded when Vincent spoke about the update on their journey. She placed her shield on her back, looking at her surroundings. Her left hand eventually stopped shaking and stood by her side. The only thing on her mind right now was what they were supposed to do next. Senya finally spoke to the others after their battle with the Priest.

"Good job." She stated with a short thumbs up.

As the demon's head was sliced clean off and rolled away from its body Seriphine panted slightly. Finally, a battle to get the blood going and an opponent to test my abilities. Looking up in search for her next target Seriphine watched as the others cut down the Priest. Looks like they were done. Well then. We won. After cleaning her swords by smearing the blood all over the demon she had executed Seriphine approached Vincent with confident steps.

Looking at the man with her usual neutral expression a genuine smile seemed to form on her face, though only for a brief moment. "You fight well, Vincent. I am confident our future engagements will be just as ferocious and bloody as this one- it will be good to have you by my side." That said, she nodded and walked off. A moment later it would appear that Seriphine was busy tearing off a claw from one of the demons. Whether it be a trophy or just something to remember the battle by Seriphine took great care in keeping the claw as clean as possible.

"Wait! One last thing." urges Loque. With another swing of her axe, she decapitates the Priest, and sends his severed head flying outside the cathedral with a kick. "I don't want him ever coming back." She also walks over to where the Priest's staff was split and picks it up, storing the pieces in her bag with the intention of holding onto it until they can find a proper smith to repair it. Perhaps Venextos might have use for it then.

With the battle over, Venextos stopped his next spell before it was ready as there was no use for it anymore. Almost immediately he went over to check on Takato and found him awake. He was still horribly charred but he was conscious. He examined the Oni for a moment, not saying a word, before beginning to cast a much more powerful healing spell onto him.

Those burns remind me of Friedrich. he thought to himself for a moment. Is this what happened to him?
