Fantasy Hunter's Moon: The Sin & Sentence [IC] [CLOSED]

As soon as Takato freed one of Henderson's arms the mutant would make the process go much faster. Shedding the leftover webbing, he leapt into action. Following Vincent's instruction, he attacked the creature's leg, pounding on it with metal clad fists.

"That. Was. Bloody. Disgusting. You. Giant. Minge!."

After Loque was finished throwing up the thick, disgusting tasting strands of cobweb, she puts back some distance between her and Zalmakul. Vincent gave the order to hit the joints and that's what Loque began aiming at. Carefully again, she sends a bullet towards one of the strands of white sinew holding one of the legs together.

Senya moved to a different position, scattered among her teammates and did the same thing before, only making a precise large fireball landing at the 1st leg.

With Henderson freed, Takato manipulated the dark mist back into shape, contorting back into the shape of an arm, with the bandages around it going back in place to create his artificial arm once more. With that, he created some qi orbs and tossed them at Zalmakul's legs.

Wesley reacted quickly with Zalmakul's attack and blocked it with the both of his arms, spraying the green liquid mostly on that area wile some of the little bits landing on his chest. Wesley proceeded to take a battle stance as he prepared to strike back, however he started to notice that the areas that the green liquid hit him are starting to eat through fabric, he brought his hands to his eye level, "Acid...." He grunted. The liquid made short work of the hardened leather that the gauntlets were made of, exposing the pale skin of his arms, It didn't stop there as the acid continued to rot away skin, he flinched, due to the pain, only for his vampiric powers to activate and quickly heal what has been damaged. he looked over his chest and saw that there were now huge gaping holes on his clothes where the acid landed.

He quickly created distance away from the huge spider and then removed the upper part of his clothing from his body to prevent more of the acid touching his skin, He decided to use the range to his advantage and used his revolver to attack the beast from a distance, he could solve his acid problems later, but now. killing the beast was a top priority

As Vincent rushed to try and cut Seriphine lose from the webbing, the rest of the group attempted to take off Zalmakul's legs. With Zalmakul reacting accordingly. As soon as Henderson got his hits in on Zalmakul's next leg, he was hit himself. He soared through the air, almost like he had been thrown like a dart, till he hit the rocky wall of the volcano hard. The spider skittered about, its heavy stomps causing a rumbling below. Which only grew when it reacted to Loque and Senya blowing the creature's damaged limb off with their attacks. It screeched loudly, staggering back in a panic. Closer to the lava flows nearby. Takato, Wesley, and Inari kept up the pressure, getting their own attacks in. Gwen did as well, from her sniping position above on the cavern wall. Kassidy added her own damage to the second leg of the creature, which was now barely hanging on just like the first leg had been.

All the movement, apparently, had caused something to happen deep within the volcano, however. Soon, the group would see spurts of lava pulsing from holes and crevices in the floor of the cavern. The group would try their best to avoid them, but the intense heat would scald some while others would get a bit of magma on their clothing. Which they very VERY quickly shed. Even Gwen had to avoid a spurt of lava from the wall next to her. Zalmakul was no exception, as the lava singed and scalded the spider's legs and body. In the process, more of her egg sacks were burned away, which only enraged the spider more.

After getting thrown back, Henderson landed on the surface and left a long streak in the dirt from the force of his landing. Pained, but not out of it, he got up and was prepared to attack again. But the volcano eruption put a stop to that. His coat was lit on fire and the mutant threw it away. Now he was rather mad. Those are hard to come by. Henderson attacked Zalmakul again, this time intending to take a bite out of the spider.

Seriphine grimaced angrily as she was still tied up in Zalmakul's webbing. Fortunately for her Vincent was currently busy with cutting her lose. She was about to thank him when a lava rupture occurred; thick droplets of hot magma burned at her, scalding her lower left leg and charring some of her clothing.
At the same time she could only watch as Vincent and the others were struck as well, something which deeply annoyed her.

"Vincent, are you alright?" She said with a soft voice.

Inari had seen what volcanoes could do over her many years of life. If there was one thing more destructive than the endless warring in Kowareta, it was the occasional volcanic eruption. They weren't common, and most humans lived their whole lifetime without seeing the full force of one, but she had lived many human lifetimes and had been around for a few eruptions. She knew that if this place was going to erupt, they'd never make it. Even if they started running an hour ago. The heat and ash alone would smother them.

Panting, and glancing at a spot of singed fur on her arm, Inari took a second to catch her breath and watch the spider, while also taking note of the weaker looking spots on the ground. "Maybe we not stick around, let volcano do work for us?" She said, before reloading her shotgun and making another slashing attack against a weak leg.

The earth trembled when they were fighting Zalmakul. The volcano eruption flew hot magma over to Senya’s left side, damaging the black armor and essentially cooked part of her body. The Warden grunted harshly, switching over to the spider’s limbs.

The 2nd leg was nearly destroyed, allowing her to aim a fire ball at the 3rd leg.

Zalmakul's crashing into the volcano walls and slamming it's weight down everywhere caused cracks to form beneath them all, making lava splash from below. Some get scalded, but Loque isn't so lucky. A douse of magma sprays itself right in front of her as she gets out of Zalmakul's way, drenching her new mask and setting it on fire while also burning spots on her neck as well. Immediately she ripped the mask off of her face and threw it aside before the fires could burn her even more.

Well, it did good while it lasted.

Unfortunately several strands of hair she styled to partially conceal her face were burned away too, making her furious. Furious enough that she began spraying bullets just about wherever on the giant spider.

With the eruption, Takato tried his best to avoid the incoming lava, but his artificial arm had been struck in the process. He rushed to remove the lava, but much of the bandages impacted had been damaged, necessitating their repairs on the spot. As he worked on repairing the damage, he felt the aura of the others, to see if there was anyone in need of healing.

He could feel two, Wesley and Henderson, who were comparatively lower than the others, and whilst the latter was actively engaging the beast, the former was poisoned. He figured the poisoned one would be better to deal with first, so he moved to aid Wesley.

"Fuck!" Wesley cursed as his shots didn't connect like he hoped he would, but things would go from bad to worse as their actions might have caused the ground below too much tension and jets of lava are starting to come out of the surface, unluckily. He was caught by a few bits of magma that jetted from a nearby crack and Wesley recoiled from the hot liquid touching his skin and burning him, whilist the venom from the beast continues to ravage his skin. He was nearly down and out, and if he doesnt figure out something. He's done for.

Luckily, he sensed Takato coming to his aid and hopefully remove the venom that ate his skin slowly. He gestured for the man to come quick, he threw a kunai at Zalmakul as a last ditch attack in a case where Takato doesn't reach him on time.

Zalmakul attempts to entrap some of the group in webbing! D6 used. Chance Roll = 6. Chance Successful! Takato, Gwen, and Inari have been entrapped in webbing! They are unable to move for 3 turns unless freed!

---
The group once more attempted to take Zalmakul down, after having managed to avoid any serious damage from the lava pocket rupture. As Henderson moved in quickly, followed by Kassidy attempting to heal him, he attempted to bite Zalmakul's damaged leg. He would fail, as the spider quickly moved it out of the way. Right into Inari's striking path. With a perfectly angled sword slice, the leg was severed from the body. Zalmakul screeched, stumbling again, but the group didn't let up. Seriphine attacked another leg, the same one that the rest of the group was now focusing on. Loque's shot ripped through the knee joint, just as Senya's fireball hit it and burned it badly. Gwen's sniper shot also hit, tearing a second hole through the third leg.

As Takato attempted to heal Wesley, which was partially successful, his kunai struck true. Hitting the joint that they all had been aiming for. Next up, as he had already freed Seriphine and given her a thumbs up in reply to her question, Vincent took aim and fired off a few shots with his rifle. They hit, and shredded the joint. The leg ripped off, forcing another pained screech from the giant spider. It was stumbling even more, now, as it tried to stay upright. And moving away from the group, right towards the rivers of magma behind it. They just needed to sever one more leg, then they could knock this thing off to its death.

As it managed to force itself upright on some of its now nubby legs, it cast out more webbing. Aimed at Takato and Inari, and somehow up at Gwen on the ledge. The webbing stuck them to where they stood, unable to move. Vincent grumbled, cutting looks to each of those that were stuck before looking back to the spider. He'd had about enough of this thing. "COME ON, YOU UGLY BITCH. GET IN THE FUCKING MAGMA." he spat angrily, snapping his rifle up and emptying his rifle into the creature's next leg.

Around them, there was more rumbling. Not as bad as before, but rocks began to drop from the cavern's roof. There were rather large rocks above, and with a little action, could probably drop down. Crashing to the ground...and perhaps onto Zalmakul.

"COME ON, YOU UGLY BITCH. GET IN THE FUCKING MAGMA."
Never at all during this abysmal journey has Loque ever heard or seen Vincent become visibly fuming like this. He’d been calm and collected as their supposed leader so far; so hearing him suddenly scream in frustration snapped her out of her own rage for a moment and caught her attention. She looks back towards him briefly with an eyebrow raised to check on him before going back to sending hot lead towards Zalmakul’s already wounded legs.

Like Loque, Setiphine was a bit taken back by Vincent's outburst. When the rumbling continued it was clear that there was no time to waste and as such Seriphine charged forth against Zalmakul, attacking the same leg as Loque.

Senya saw the 3rd leg destroyed as they were getting closer to killing Zalmakul. But the webbing managed to entrap the others before she could even decide to land an attack. She turned to Takato and immediately attempted to pry him out of there using a small fire trick so he can get back to healing the others soon.

Despite his failure to catch the Spider, Henderson felt rejuvenated by Kassidy's magic.

"Thanks for the help, luv!" He turned his attention as some others were now trapped in webbing. Being a man to return a favor, Henderson began to untangle Takato from his trap. Or was, until Senya went on to help him. Henderson shrugged and decided to help Inari while he was there.

The group attempts to force Zalmakul off into the lava flows! D6 used. Chance Roll = 5. Chance Successful! Zalmakul is dead.

---
As some of the group focused on freeing their allies, the rest continued to strike at Zalmakul directly instead of dropping rocks on the creature from above. Vincent's angry gunshots at the creature proved to be more effective than he realized, as the hunting rounds ripped and tore through the creature's leg at the joint. Loque's shot did the same, blowing a chunk out of the joint, as did Kassidy's pistol shots. As the leg held on by the last few tendons, Seriphine and Wesley made their moves. Wesley sliced through them with a few hits from his kunai, as Seriphine charged into the leg to try and force it to tear away. And it did. As soon as she plowed into the leg, the tendons and ligaments snapped. The leg was ripped off, forcing Zalmakul to screech out in pain once more. This time, it desperately tried to get away from the group, stumbling and falling as it crawled backwards. This was as close as it was ever going to get to the lava flows, almost on the edge.

Vincent looked to others. "HIT THAT MOTHERFUCKER AND KNOCK IT IN!" he shouted, before charging full force towards the creature's underside as it fell again. Kassidy followed suit, as did the rest once Takato and Inari were freed. As each of them hit the creature, it slid further and further. Henderson's large frame and power would be what sealed the creature's fate, as when he it it, it slid several feet and off into the lava flow. The group scrambled backwards to avoid getting doused in magma, as the creature flailed about in the river of molten rock. Letting out screeches of pain as it was rapidly disolved.

They watched, as its movements slowed and the screeching died...till there was only silence. Well, as silent as it could be inside of an active volcano.

“So...” Loque breaks the silence with a question. “... How will we make it look like we didn’t do it now?”

Vincent eyed where the massive spider had fallen into the magma, a few of its remaining legs still jutting up into the air as it's corpse disolved into the molten magma. He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he finally calmed himself. "...I'll get in touch with Xager. Just sit tight. This may take a bit longer than we had hoped, since we've got corpses outside and a burning cannon." he said, glancing to the others. He looked up ti where Gwen was, still stuck to the wall on the ledge. "Takato, can you fly up there and cut her loose? Bring her down here." he asked, motioning a finger up towards her as he looked to Takato.

As Takato departed, lifting into the air and heading up to where Gwen was, he turned about. "Watch for anything we might have missed." he said, before walking over to where he was by himself. He then recited the words to summon Tariun, and when she appeared in her ghostly form, he stated what they had done. "Excellent work...though I'm saddened to hear about the cannon and its crew. Shadow demons are a mysterious lot. I shall send a few of my associates over to assist, along with Xager. She bring you a greed demon to help get things started regarding framing of Keggoth." she responded, before quickly fading away into nothingness.

It wasn't long of a wait for the group, as soon a portal appeared nearby. Out stepped a platoon of various demons, lead by Xager and a demon that looked a bit more like a strange, demonic hobgoblin than anything. Xager greeted them all almost immediately, before turning to look at the disolving corpse. She cocked an eyebrow before speaking. "...I see that Zalmakul had to be put down the hard way....Pitty. We can still use the legs that you cut off in our frame job however." she stated, before motioning to the demon with her. "This is Keidraga. A former greed demon, whom joined out cause fairly recently. He'll fill you in on what you need to do to make this look like Keggoth's handywork."

The demon bowed, before speaking in a relatively typical low Atracan accent. "Bloody nice o' ya ta burn that fuckin' thing. I'd a done the same thing. Anyway, let's get ta work, ladies and gents."

Elsewhere...

Sazak's Palace
Kur
The Land of Vainglory

"...Well, there it is." said Riberta, glancing down to the others as they sat crouched behind a large rock formation. Peering over it at Sazak's grand palace. There were a few guards wandering around the perimeter, each clad in armor and using blades made of a similar material to the weapon Riberta was now carrying. Inside the palace, more guards. But not as many as they had been expecting, seeing that they were at an Icon's palace. Where was everyone? Down at the front?

Riberta looked down to the others again. "Know of any quiet ways in?" she asked, looking to Mariette. "Or do we need to just...get right to the killing?" she added, a hint of eagerness in her voice.

There was indeed a quiet way in, but that required coming in from the beach, on the other side of the palace. Having been there so long, though, Mariette knew the guard's typical patrol routes like the back of her hand. They could get in a variety of ways, really. The question was if they could get in without alerting Sazak or his kin.

Jakob scanned the perimeter. It was definitely well defended, but with some effort the group might be able to push through the guards. It'd depend entirely on how many of them they could kill from a distance before charging in. Riberta then asked Mariette if she knew any way to sneak inside, where they'd have to find Valeria and Cassandra. And maybe free Ser Edmond as well. Should she be unable to think of an alternative path, he had another idea. "...Got a couple of explosives. I know it ain't practical and pretty, but we could blow 'em up before they reach us. Make our path in there safer." He looked over his shoulder at Mariette, and gave her a smile. "...But the choice is yours, ma'am. You know this place better than us."

For a while, Mariette was silent as she watched the guards, taking note of their positions and counting silently the intervals between their appearances. This would reveal to her exactly which patrols were missing, and therefore, exactly where there would be gaps in coverage. Finally, she spoke, her voice low and trembling with bloodthirsty anticipation. "As much joy as it would give me to rend the hearts from every one of their bodies, we must do our best to temper ourselves until Cassandra and Ser Edmond are at our side, and not slain by the enemy in anticipation of our arrival." She then flashed a grin to Riberta. "After that, I suggest we flay them all."

She hadn't mentioned Valeria as she knew that Sazak's minions wouldn't dare harm her.

She drew her saber and then placed the tip on the ground, dragging it across the gravel-like surface to draw a line. Gradually, she recreated the basic layout of the palace, complete with small crosses to represent the most-likely positions of the guards, and explained their normal patrol routes. The ultimate goal was to avoid a large melee which could halt their progress, especially since the few good entrances to the palace could be locked or barricaded on a moment's notice. "We cannot avoid being seen at least once," she warned, "but if we follow this route, we will not be seen by more than one solitary guard at a time. We will move à grande vitesse, and kill each demon before it raises an alarm."

Her route would lead them through the courtyard to a particular recession in the stone walls of the palace. A window happened to overlook said recession, but Mariette knew that none of the guards on duty would be in a position to look from that vantage point for intervals as long as 10 minutes. Additionally, the shape of the wall would make it easy to climb, even for those without a supernatural ability to scale walls. They would enter the palace through the window, and then proceed through a particular sequence of rooms and halls which led to the library where she had first learned of Jakob and the rescue party's presence in the Abyss. Hopefully, they would locate a suitable grimoire for Mariette, and she would then be able to cloak them and their auras as they headed for the catacombs below.

As for Cassandra, Mariette hoped that she would be present somewhere in the palace, sweeping floors or doing some other housework. She couldn't detect the pureblood's aura from this distance, but perhaps very soon, Cass would know that she was close, and was bringing help. Deep down, however, the possibility began to dawn on her that Sazak may have sent Cassandra away when Mariette "went hollow," to face some other punishment. There was no time to dwell on it.

"Does anyone have a different idea?" Mariette asked.

Jakob looked back at the palace for a moment. "...Sneakin' ain't my thing, to be honest. I'm a large fella after all." But as he was talking, he was removing the strange aberrant blade attached to the shotgun that was once owned by his shadow counterpart. "...But we can't be picky, now, can we? You should take point, Hudson...You better find a way to not 'clank' all over the whole darn place."

Riberta smirked, looking to Jakob. "You're quieter than you realize, pup." she said, before looking back to Mariette. "Sounds good to me. Let's get moving." And a few moments later, they were on the move. Tracing Mariette's route around the perimeter of the palace as they moved in towards the outer walls. The patrolling guards outside were easy to sneak up on, as they seemed more preoccupied with killing time or worrying about their appearances. And one by one, they were brutally executed.

Once past the outer wall, they moved through the courtyard in the direction of the recession of the palace's stone walls. Instead of a guard standing at the window overlooking the alcove, however, it was someone else. A handsome young man, with medium length blonde hair wearing a white shirt and brown trousers. He seemed to have just woken up. Rubbing his demonic eyes, and drinking what appeared to be some sort of hot tea.

Riberta eyeballed the man from where they had hidden themselves, before looking to Mariette. "Who the hell is that?" she whispered. They soon heard the answer. "Lord Ergran, your breakfast is ready." said a guard, whom had stepped up behind the demon. He waved him away. "I'm coming. Let me wake up first." he said, to which the guard simply bowed and backed away. He remained there for about five more minutes, before straightening up and taking his tea with him. They now had an opening to move.

Ergran was Sazak's third son, behind Astraal and Azathor. Much like Astraal, he was loyal to his father to a fault, but he wasn't as useful as his eldest brother. He focused too much on the lavish parts of being the son of an Icon, and would often roam around the palace. Usually bouncing between hobbies. He would also often tease Mariette and Cassandra as they performed their duties, as they were his father's favorites, but didn't mistreat them like the youngest son did. It seemed he was up and about now, so they would have to be extra careful once they were inside.
