"Looks like that rest will have to wait." Ethraeil yelled out to Camille as the monstrosity arose from the lake. What concerned Ethraeil the most the most was not how powerful such a creature was, but rather how a it got here in the first place. In any case, the sooner is was dead the better.

As soon as he entered the fray, Ethraeil charged an ice bolt and launched it at the beast.

Aleister watched the monster arise out of the water and approach them with a mixture of exhaustion and annoyance. They couldn't even be granted a moments rest until it was back into battle.

With a small hand motion and prayer, Aleister began to summon a small bolt of electric energy. If the beast was from the water, perhaps this could hurt it more than usual.

'There never is a dull moment is there?' Theodore thought as he raced to grab his gear once the hydra arose 'How I fucking beg for some boredom right about now.' The schollar cursed their luck and why he thought it would be safe not to have anything on hand at all times by this point.

The hydra screeched. He would give it something to screech about. Theodore lit a fuse and threw an acidic bomb towards it.

The sounds of shouting and commotion had been an annoying wake up from the few moments she had of a nap, Camille grumbling as she lifted her hood slightly to see what all the fuss was about. What she was greeted with was enough to get her to hold her mouth agape, having no idea that such a beast could even exist here of all places. Scrambling to her feet she quickly unsheathed a quill and her rapier, closing her jaw with the back of the hand that wielded her dagger. In the faces of this monster her weaponry may as well have been sewing needles to it, yet still she felt compelled to do something.

The huntress jogged up to shore, helping surround the beast and taking a combative position in preparation for its attack. Closing the distance between a beast so massive seemed foolish to her at the moment, so she stood near Ethraeil and waited.

Galina was busy tending to Boris when the Hydra emerged. She cursed and grabbed her rifle from a nearby bag, kneeled down and sent out a shriek just as she unleashed a volley of lead at the creature.

The group opened up on the Hydra, which was rapidly approaching them as it seemed to be building up for an attack of its own. Rosanna, Valeria, Wesley, Galina, and Francis all fired upon the creature, but only Francis, Rosanna, and Valeria scored their hits. Galina's shot went wide, while both Wesley's shots missed the heads as they moved about. Ethraeil flung a ice spear at the creature, but it quickly moved its head and avoid it altogether. Aleister's lightning struck true, though, shocking the creature. Theodore followed up with an acidic bomb, burning the creature across various parts of its body. Camille rushed in and managed to stab the creature a few times with her sword before getting clear of the creature. A moment later, it unleashed its attack.

Three of the five heads recoiled, before unleashing a high pressure blast of water from each of their mouths. The violent bursts of water swept across the area, as the three heads attempted to strike everything in its path. One head even managed to hit the carriage, turning it into a pile of splinters and luggage. Theodore, Rosanna, Aleister, Galina, and Francis managed to get clear, avoiding the creature as best they could. Meanwhile, Camille was sent sliding across the ground on her back, while Ethraeil and Valeria were both smacked and sent sailing. Wesley was hit as well, being sent into some nearby bushes.

Ethraeil was taken by surprise by the sheer power of the water blast as it sent him flying in the air and before long he hit the ground. Quickly getting himself off the ground and collecting himself, Ethraeil made his way back and launched another frost bolt at the hydra.

Francis had been quiet and thoughtful since leaving town, dividing his attention evenly between watching the road and the sky above. After a while, he began to relax; it seemed that the enemy really had retreated to its stronghold. Once they had reached the lake, Francis was preparing to remove his gear for a good night's sleep when a new monster arrived out of nowhere. Snatching up his shotgun, he managed to nail the creature with a single blast before it struck the carriage, and Francis, already standing, crashed to the ground when the vehicle was swept from beneath him. Scrambling back to his feet with mud on his hands and face, he picked up his firearm and stumbled toward the rest of the party, too fixated on the hydra to even take stock of the devastation its attack had made of their wagon. "Son of a bitch!" he yelled in frustration, having no other words to articulate his mindset. He didn't even bother to ask where the hydra had come from.

He scanned over the carriage's remains and spotted one of his larger traps- a wooden black powder bomb with an old iron chain tightly coiled around its core. Upon exploding, it would send dozens of chain sections flying as shrapnel, each between four inches and a foot long. The problem is that, during travel, the fuse had been removed for the carriage's safety. Francis was carrying the fuses himself, but this still meant he had to operate on the bomb in the midst of battle. After a moment's hesitation, he committed, running to the bomb and sliding to the ground on the muddy grass. He pulled the fuse out of his coat pocket, uncorked the core of the bomb and jammed the filament into the powder before shoving the cork back in, wedging the fuse in such a way that he could light it from the outside with a match. He did so, turned the bomb on its side, and with a heavy bowling motion, rolled the bomb like a barrel down the slope toward the lake's edge before ducking back to the earth for cover.

The acid was working as it should. Melting away at the hydra's scales and skin. With any luck it would make it's healing neglidgable in the long run. Theodore prepared another acid bomb and tossed it in the beast's direction.

The drestruction of the carriage while a setback, was currently low on his priority list. The trunk was sturdy enough.

Wesley was sent flying to a couple of bushes from the Hydra's attack, although the bushes minimized the fall. the pressure from the Hydra's strike the still left a painful mark on his body. he gets up and see any opportunities to relocate. "If this was the Duke's doing. then I don't want to know what other monstrosities he created in his castle!" he then sees Theodore throw one of his acid bombs at the monster. seeing this, he aimed his gun at the affected area. hoping that the bullets sink deep into it.

Galina cursed as her bullets missed the hydra. She noticed how Wesley was focusing at the scales damaged by Theodore's acid bombs and quickly followed suit. A devastating scream was unleashed at the area in the hopes of rupturing the skin.

Camille let out a scream as she was struck with a deluge of rushing water that slid her across the ground, arms crossed in front of her face to minimize how much damage her face suffered from the attack. As soon as she had the opportunity to she stood back up on her feet, regaining her balance as she bore down and flourished her rapier again. "Gigantic waste of time..! Crawl back into that lake and die, damn it!" she shouted, running forward to stab into the beast's hide once more.

Seeing the carriage get smashed to oblivion was enough to send a jolt of anger through him now. Not only was his best transportation now gone, but it helped him rest when he needed to travel in the sunlight. And now some glorified turtle put an end to that. His eyes searched the nearby wreckage momentarily to make sure his travel bag had survived. He had packed light for this particular journey, though the loss of even a single outfit was one too many.

The screaming of other members of the party brought his attention back to more pressing matters. Some of that water was quite high pressured and sent some people careening away in a mess. He considered moving in a little closer to fire some shots when he saw Francis sending some sort of device towards the creature. Best to keep clear of that thing.

Aleister trailed back around a fallen tree worn smooth from the waves of the lake, and he began casting another group healing spell. The magical serpents would seek out the wounded and imbue them with healing essence.

Hydra cannot attack. Stunned.

------
The group continued their efforts, attempting to kill the large hydra that had crawled out of the depths of the lake to slaughter them. Francis's explosive rolled along, ending up just beneath the Hydra as Theodore lobbed another bomb full of acid over the creature. It detonated, coating the creature with acid burns again and distracting the creature long enough for Francis' larger bomb to detonate. There was a massive explosion, stunning the creature and knocking it backwards several feet. It also blew off two of the creature's five heads. As it thrashed about, trying to regain its composure, the rest of the group moved in for their own attacks. Ethraeil flung yet another ice spear, aiming for one of the creature's several heads, but missed yet again. Wesley opened fire, aiming for a similar target, but also missed. Galina let loose a scream, but found her target just a bit too far away to cause the damage she wanted. She would need to move in closer.

Rosanna, opting to move in for close combat, drew a tomahawk off her belt and rushed in alongside Camille. As Camille drove her sword into the creature's side, Rosanna jumped atop it and viciously hacked away at one of the creature's necks. Eventually, she would slice a third head off, before getting off the creature quickly as to avoid being thrown. Valeria holstered her revolver, feeling a sudden urge to use just her sword. Allow me to assist, Witlock. I've slain creatures such as this before...when they were still around. She then rushed in, feeling as though she were running on autopilot. She was still totally aware of what she was doing, and still had control of herself, but this all felt...natural. She sliced along the side of the creature, carving a long deep gash in the creature's gills on the side. As one of its heads swung back in an attempt to knock her away, she dodged and sliced clean through its throat. Blood poured from the gaping wound, as it gurgled instead of screeching like before. She then sliced off one of the creature's back fins.

The creature eventually gained enough composure to try and retreat back into the lake. Meanwhile, one of its heads seemed to be trying to regenerate. It was still appeared to be close to death, however. Aleister hung back, taking the chance to try and heal some of the group. He was successful, as the ones that had been hit previously seemed to perk up a bit.

After missing the hydra yet again, Ethraeil opted to launch an ice lance at the creature's body rather than its head as it was larger and easier to hit.

The huntress was in the fray with Witlock, stabbing her blade in deep and calculated areas. She wasn't actually sure of this monster's anatomy, but she would aim for chinks in its hide as well as between joints to perform the most damage, hoping to cripple it as it was reeling from the blast that detonated overhead.

The hydra turned around to escape its attackers and lick its wounds. The inquiry wasn't looking to let it go that easy. Theodore chucked another one of his bombs at it.

Galina cursed once more, dropped her rifle and charged at the Hydra. While charging forth she unholstered her pistols which she then trained at the unholy creature. Another ear-shattering wail was unleashed coupled with a volley of bullets.

It was obvious that the hideous creature was grievously wounded after the last volley, thanks in no small part to the explosive barrage laid out by Francis and Theodore. They had to keep pressing if they wanted to see it slain, however, and Francis was frantic in his efforts, mainly out of fear that the enemy would somehow turn the tide. Switching to his incendiary shells, he fired off several more shotgun blasts at the hydra.

Seeing that the beast was looking gravely injured and moving back towards the water, Aleister snorted and hopped the log he was behind. He advanced with the others, checking his revolver and firing a full cylinder at the creature as he moved steadily up with the others.

As the creature frantically attempted to retreat, the inquiry kept up their attack. Theodore tossed another acid filled bomb at the creature, the device detonating and bathing the creature in acid once more. It wasn't as effective as the other bombs from before, but the acid still did its job. It melted through the creature's scales, and severely burned it in several places. Then, Ethraeil finally managed to hit his mark, an ice spear zipping through the air and piercing the creature's side. It screeched in pain, thrashing about as the others moved in to attack. Camille continued to stab the creature in its front legs and side, hindering its movement a bit, while Wesley fired upon the creature from afar. Galina attempted to stun the creature using her screams, but still found herself a bit too far from it to make a significant difference. The ones that finally managed to put the creature down was first Francis, hitting the Hydra with several loads of incendiary rounds and lighting it on fire, and Aleister, who emptied his revolver and hit the creature's remaining heads with multiple shots.

The creature finally let out one last screech, before finally collapsing at the water's edge. Dead. Rosanna marched over, and proceeded to chop off the remaining heads of the Hydra to make sure that the creature wouldn't suddenly get back up to attack again. Meanwhile, Valeria turned to Theodore. "If you have any more of that acid, toss it on the corpse. It can't regenerate if it doesn't have a body." she said, motioning to the large creature before looking to the rest of the group. "Excellent work, everyone."

The carriage that the group had been using to store their gear, and as a transport for the vampiric members of the group, had been reduced to splinters and broken boards. Some of the luggage was still alright, mainly cases full of clothes or other personal items, but others had been blown apart. Their contents scattered about the area around the carriage's broken frame. Theodore's trunk seemed to be partially damaged but otherwise alright. Francis's trunk was in a similar state. None of the horses were harmed, having quickly vacated the area when the hydra launched its water attack.

Watching the monster crumple into a lifeless corpse, Francis waited for some unforeseen misfortune to arise out of the situation until, at last, he felt satisfied that the group was once again safe. Letting out an exasperated sigh, he sat down in the wet grass and then laid down on his back, speechless about the whole ordeal. After around a minute to clear his thoughts, he finally spoke up, eyes still pointed skyward. "The carriage is gone," he remarked, as if to ask "what do we do now?"

Aleister looked around the wreckage for his leather travel bag. He found it covered in mud but otherwise unharmed, and he vigorously swiped his hand at it to clean it. This was almost more of an annoyance than the damned hydra.

"We do what we've been doing since day one and keep moving forward. We're this far already. A destroyed carriage won't stop us," he said, though he looked up towards the sky to see what the situation with the sun is. All his comfort and luxury gone with the carriage.

He washed his hands at the bank of the lake, and the took out a small cloak from his bag and pulled it on to conceal his body and head.

Valeria walked over to where the carriage's two horses were still standing, dragging what used to be the front of the carriage behind them. She started to unhook some of the ropes and chains that tied them to the piece of debris, glancing over to Francis. "We'll have to pack lighter. We can stash what we don't bring with us around here somewhere. Once the Duke is dealt with, you and the others can come back to retrieve your belongings." she said, as she tossed the ropes and chains aside into the wet grass and mud. "You and the others that rode in the carriage will have to use these horses to continue on, unless you'd prefer to walk." She lead one of the horses over to Francis's side, before bringing the other to Aleister. "Wesley will have to ride with someone on their horse."

She them moved back over to Francis. "I suggesting crafting whatever bombs and devices you need now, and attaching them to a sling or putting them into a bag you can easily carry. Afterwards, get some rest. We'll be leaving in a few hours."

Camille withdrew her blades from the hydra once it let out its death cry, hopping a great deal backwards to afford enough room to collapse without endangering herself. Once it was truly dead she flicked her blades to remove some of the blood on them, yet soon pulled out a wet handkerchief to completely clean the weaponry. As she did this she listened in on what the others were saying. A few hours rest? At least she wouldn't be missing out on all of her sleep now. Sheathing her weapons, she trotted back over to the spot she had occupied before and laid back down. She was soaking wet but hardly cared about that, momentarily trying to sleep before she began to shiver from the biting cold.

"I would appreciate if someone lit a fire to dry our clothes and ourselves." she said aloud, head bent low as she shivered now and then.
