Wesley grabbed a spare repeater from the tucked away compartment of the carriage and popped out from the back and started firing back at the horde. "Aleister! Tell that man who threw that to keep keeping throwing some more! We need to create some distance from them!" he yelled.

Edmond looked upon the Inquiry as they began to run for their lives. He knew they wouldn't give up, but he still wished to give them a chance. He let out a sigh, before lifting into the dark sky and flying after them at an unnatural speed as his horde continued their charge. Edmond readied the spell as he flew in closer, hovering just over the back of the carriage. A ball of 'negative' energy, that he had learned how to channel. He launched it at Aleister and Francis, intending to make them feel sluggish and tired instead of actually hurting them.

As the members of the group opened fire and fled from the incoming horde of ghouls, Ethraeil decided to use a bit of ice magic to stall them. As soon as the ghouls reached the ice spear, it exploded quite violently. Several ice shards impaled the front line of ghouls, and created a spiky wall of icy shards in front of the horde. It'd take them a bit to get through it, but eventually they would. Theodore attempted to add to the destruction, but didn't quite measure the fuel inside the bombs correctly. As they hit the ground, they detonated and only created small patches of fire. Nothing like the fiery wall he envisioned.

Francis' bomb did quite exceptionally, however, landing inside the horde and detonating in spectacular fashion. It landed behind the front line of ghouls, however, not affecting their progress through the ice shards. He looked up in time to see Edmond hovering over the back of the carriage, lobbing what appeared to be some sort of spell at them. With a sharp jerk of the reins, he moved the carriage and avoided the spell. Wesley, whom had fired off a few shots at the ghouls, swung about with his repeater and fired a shot at Edmond. The shot ripped through one of Edmond's wings, but otherwise didn't faze the large creature.

As the group ventured further into Buckshard, they soon found out what the creatures were actually doing. Rosanna rode ahead, never noticing the super fine wire stretched between two of the carriages in the street. Rayham's leg tripped the wire, and what came next shocked Valeria, whom was behind her on her own horse. A hidden double-barreled shotgun, mounted to the front of one of the carriages that Rosanna had ridden between, went off. The slugs hit her square in the chest, knocking her clean off Rayham and onto the dirt and cobblestone street. She let out a loud groan, before climbing to her feet. "W-Watch out! *cough* Fuckin' b-booby traps!" she sounded off, before quickly jogging after her horse whom was slowing to a stop ahead. Valeria rounded the other side of the right carriage, and was hit in the side by a board. A pressure plate, triggered by her own horse, forced a 2x4 to be launched out of a miniature machine of some sort nearby in a store window. The impact cracked a pair of her ribs, and sent her off her own horse. She yelled out in pain, as she hit the ground, before crawling back to her feet and powerwalking back to her own horse.

Ethraeil watched as Rosanna and Valeria were both knocked off their horses by booby traps, now concerned as to who else might be in play. Edmond didn't seem like the type to make these kinds of traps, and the ghouls were probably incapable of doing so. Nonetheless, Ethraeil took the initiative to stand upon his undead horse's back and launched himself off of it, using jets of ice to propel himself to the rooftops and put himself in a more advantageous position. Wordlessly, he directed his own mount to rush ahead and to tank whatever other booby traps might await the group up ahead. In the meantime, Ethraeil ran at an unholy speed and used his ice to propel himself to keep up with the Inquiry's pace on the streets below.

The ghoul's were kept busy by his ice bomb, but it would not hold them back forever. In the meantime, Ethraeil opted to focus on the monstrosity flying above. As such, he prepared an ice bolt as he moved about the rooftops and launched it at Edmond when it was ready.

Galina gritted her teeth and watched as Edmond assaulted the carriage. Then, all of a sudden, both Valeria and Rosanna were caught in two separate traps.

Looking at Camille, Galina gestured towards Valeria. "Grab Witlock!" was all she managed to say before shifting her focus to Edmond.

Standing up in her saddle Galina lowered her rifle and narrowed her eyes. Slowly her face began to adopt a ghastly blue shimmer while her eyes turned white.

Then it came. A wail so powerful it could break bones. A shattering scream directed at Edmond alone.

"Damn! Ha ha! I must've killed a dozen of 'em!" Francis yelled in excitement. "Hopefully the others aren't duds- Oh gods!"

He was interrupted by the monstrous Ser Edmond's attack, and continued a string of curses as Roseanna and Valeria were beset by the enemy's traps. Gripping the reins with both hands, he steered the carriage with all his willpower and narrowly avoided the dangers while the vampires returned fire. The momentary triumph in the man's face had gone in favor of grit and wily survivalism.

In other words, Francis was still absolutely terrified. He scanned the road ahead with a keen eye as the carriage rumbled onward, making sure not to become fixated on Etheail's horse as it charged ahead into danger. Instead, he used his own experience with tinkering to identify where the enemy may have laid their traps.

Camille heard Galina's call just in time to act, slowing her horse ever so slightly to push on Valeria's shoulders to get her back to her own steed that much faster. "Come on, you can still ride!" she urged her, starting to go faster and move just up ahead of the Senior Inquisitor once she was able to ride on horseback yet again. "Stay to the back to avoid the traps." the huntress ordered, yet soon she fixed her eyes on the abominable beast that had just attempted to assault the carriage. She could only grit her teeth and grip her rapier tighter, knowing that she would have no way to make sure that any throw of her quills would be on mark.

Hoping that those with firearms could handle repelling Edmond, she fixed her eyes on the road ahead in an effort to find where the upcoming traps were. Yet as soon as Ethraeil called his undead stallion to bull-rush through the traps, her eyes went wide. "Ethraeil, call your steed back!" Camille shouted up to him. "If we can avoid the traps without setting them off they'll thin this herd of ghouls for us!"

Aleister grimaced as the carriage rocked madly as they continued their flight, firing off his pistol at any ghouls that tried to get too close to them. The makeshift bombs and devices did a great job at thinning some of them out and keeping them back, but he wasn't sure how long that would last. He glanced up into the air to see that damned creature still flying after them. A few revolver shots - if he could even land them - probably wouldn't do much.

"Where the hells are we even going? They're herding us somewhere!"

With the revelation of traps behind ahead of them, it was clear they needed some light. If he could manage to keep some magical light following them, he could probably blind Ser Edmond as well, if only for a bit.

Stuffing his pistol into its holster, Aleister began casting the magical orb of light he had used before in the past. The ghouls were far too stupid to use the light to their advantage, and it may even keep some of them back. As the ball of supernatural illumination grew in his hands, he launched it above the carriage towards Ser Edmond, using his focus to keep the orb following the carriage so that it could light their path and stun the enemy.

The horde was ever present and chasing after them. The explosions held off a number of them back, but the rest were still after them. There were other methods that could be used other than fire and dismemberment.

Theodore threw another set of grenades meant to detonate over the crowd's heads. The content would then spill out on top of them, a sticky substance meant for situations like this. It wont stop the horde, but it would slow them down to buy the inquiry time.

Wesley stumbles a bit after Francis evades Edmond's attack. "Oi! Keep it steady up there I'm trying to get a clear shot!" he balances himself again and focuses his repeater towards Edmond. hoping to get a clear shot.

As the group continued on, away from the ghoul horde, Camille assisted Valeria in remounting her horse as Rosanna slipped back onto her's nearby. Theodore slowed the ghouls down a bit more, tossing a few of his sticky bombs towards the horde. They detonated successfully, coating several groups inside the horde with the viscous substance. Meanwhile, the others continued to try and fight off Ser Edmond using whatever they could. Ethraeil, whom had leapt from his horse to a rooftop, hurled ice spears at the flying creature. All missed, as Edmond easily avoided them in midair. But perhaps it was for the best, as his movements put him directly in the path of Galina's banshee scream. The scream stunned Edmond, forcing him to move about erratically. Wesley managed to get a good shot off at the creature as he flailed about in midair, hitting the vampire in the chest with a bullet. Aleister's light didn't do much to affect Edmond, but it did help in lighting the way ahead of the group. Edmond, in an attempt to protect himself, slammed through the upper floors of a building to create a cloud of smoke and debris around him.

As Theodore turned back about to see where he was going, he failed to notice the pressure plates on the ground rapidly approaching him. As his horse stepped upon them, however, Ethraeil's horse bumped into his and knocked them aside. Just in time to avoid a blast that would have obliterated Theodore's horse. Ethraeil's undead horse exploded quite violently, sending bones and rotten flesh everywhere as a large explosive underneath it detonated. The blast stunned both Theodore and his horse, knocking them over and forcing them to slide a few feet across the ground. Still, they were alive and unharmed.

Francis would almost fall victim to a trap himself, but thanks to his keen sense of sight, he was able to see trip wires strung out across the path before them between a nearby building and a wagon. As the wire was tripped, he quickly leaned as far as he could over in the seat, laying almost flat on the bench. This allowed him to avoid getting a .45-70 slug made of silver to the face, which zipped over him and hit Wesley in the spine on the back of the carriage.

The group continued on, as the ghouls managed to make their way through some of the ice shards. As some of them had been stabbed by the ice and covered in Theodore's sticky substance, they were still moving rather slowly. It would still take a while before they were back up to speed to catch the group. Valeria sped back up, glancing up to where Edmond was before looking ahead. They were nearly a quarter of the way through the city, and were encountering more and more traps. It was quite clear that Edmond had some sort of help, and these ghouls weren't smart enough to build these traps themselves. "I think we're dealing with either more of the Duke's troops, or we've got a alchemist on our hands!" she said, looking to Camille. "The question is where the hell are they?"

------
"Oh my, the party has started." said Blair to herself, peering through a pair of binoculars a good distance away from Buckshard. She could hear the gunfire from where she was sitting, nestled amongst a small group of trees and rocks. Next to her, a small plate with some cake on it, and a record player she had crafted herself which was playing lovely orchestral music. She smiled, then looked to the series of plungers nearby. Almost time for the first one. She reached over and pulled it to her, checking the cables and connectors. She then pulled the plunger up and set the device just before her, before picking her plate back up. She took a bite of the slice of cake using a fork which had been resting on the saucer, then grinned. "Oh how I love Daristeinian Chocolate!"

"Whatever, wherever, or whoever they are they've built quite the gauntlet for us to run through!" Camille responds with her voice raised to Valeria. "They'll likely be waiting at the end of it, would be foolish to engage us in an area littered with traps, they would have cornered themselves." the huntress reasons, turning her eyes back to the road.

"We're trapped either way. Unless we run into a whole platoon of Atracan infantrymen outside Buckshard - the ghouls won't stop pursuing us anytime soon!"

Aleister held on tightly to the bench as the traps came flying towards Francis beside him, and he could hear the zip of the silver bullet which cracked by and into Wesley on the back of the carriage. He cursed loudly and thoroughly in such a manner that even a sailor would blush.

"Wesley? Boy! Are you alright back there! Speak up!" He wanted to see if the other vampire was alright, but given the speed of they were going and the appearance of the traps, he had to keep looking forward. Edmond could mount another attack at any moment, too. The last thing he needed was a silver bullet to the head, or any other grisly contraption that would cause a great deal of pain. Getting knocked off the carriage would be quite bad as well, so he kept his boot lodged beneath the foot rest bar on the board. That should keep him secure. If something hit him with enough force to try and pull him off, it would just break his leg and ankle, at worst. That he could deal with - falling into a pack of hundreds of ghouls was not.

"Whatever is at the end of this is going to be awful if they are herding us towards it!" He shouted out. "Any bright ideas, anyone?"

He kept his eyes on the sky and his gun ready to fire if Edmond reappeared.

Ethraeil ran across the rooftops in an attempt to rejoin the inquiry, forcing him to bound about on uneven rooftops. It took a bit for him to catch up, but once he was nearby Ethraeil jumped from the roof and landed on top of the carriage, next to Wesley. He checked up on the vampire, seeing that he was okay, before enchanting another ice spear and impaling it onto the road behind them as they advanced through the city. Another frost bomb would keep the ghouls at bay should they get to that point.

Theodore hurried to get his horse up and himself on it. The others were right, the traps, they composition and their positioning. They were dealing with someone far more clever than any of the duke's men. Problem is, they had no idea who it could be. They had never run into anyone close to having such talent. Even if they could herd the ghouls into the town to be thinned by whatever traps haven't been triggered yet, there was still the trouble of the knight.

"Our trap maker is likely in a far away vantage point observing the chaos. We wont be getting our hands on them for a long time and they should be a concern for later." Theodore prepared his revolver in case Edmund or more of the ghouls would come for them.

Once Blair had finished her slice of cake, she set the empty saucer and fork back down next to her. Then, she pulled the plunger back over to where she was sitting and gripped its handles tightly. "And a one...two...three!" she said, before pushing the plunger down with a bit of force. It sank into the device, and a moment later, there was a massive explosion inside of Buckshard. "That's one!" she said, with a smile as she saw the fire and smoke plume into the air.

---
Inside Buckshard, moments before, the group continued on through the city. As they spoke and debated on what could be waiting on them at the end, or focusing their efforts on Edmond, Ethraeil opted to hurl another ice bomb back towards the ghouls in an attempt to slow them down further. It failed, however, as the bomb went off and instead became mostly imbeded in the environment. Easily sidestepped by the rabid ghouls moving after them.

Soon enough they approached an intersection, with the road going either left or right. In the center before them was a two-story inn, named the 'Prancing Pony'. A sign out front bore a picture of a horse prancing. "Alright, we should head right here towards the bridge!" said Valeria aloud as they neared the inn. Then, there was this sudden flash and a thunderous boom. The inn exploded quite violently and spectacularly, sending boards and glass in various directions. The group reacted as best they could, but several members of the group were hit with flying debris or simply blown off their horses or the carriage. Ethraeil took several wooden boards to the face, some of which also smacked Wesley along with some glass shards. Both, however, were sent off the back of the carriage. Francis managed to lay down once again to avoid damage, and Aleister used his vampiric reflexes to avoid being hit.

Rosanna was pelted with glass shards and some boards, but managed to stay firmly seated on her horse. Valeria, however, was knocked off again by a board to the head which broke her nose. Camille somehow avoided getting hit, but Theodore was sent off his horse by a plank from the inn's porch. Galina also managed to avoid taking hits, thanks to her banshee powers. Those taken down returned to their feet, battered and bruised (with some bloodied). "For fuck's sake!" shouted Rosanna, pulling her hat back on after pulling a shard of glass out of her chest.

"Was that dynamite!?" Francis stammered in disbelief as he pulled himself back upright against the dashboard of the carriage, ears still ringing from the blast. He pulled back on the reins to halt the horses, which had nearly gone out of control with frenzy. The two riders which had fallen behind would be given a chance to catch up while Francis turned with another pipe bomb in hand, hurling it over everyone's heads toward the approaching mob, just trying to hold them back long enough for everyone to make a safe escape. A look came over him. "We can't risk that bridge!" he yelled. "I'll bet they rigged it up just the same!"

Ethraeil quickly got up, a few of his bones having been cracked after the explosion went off, and looked around. "We can't continue like this. The entire damn place is made into a trap!" Ethraeil yelled out as he looked towards the encroaching ghoul horde. The army was approaching quickly, and the Inquiry was still no closer to getting out of the city. Ethraeil had an idea in order to alleviate their problems with the traps, but as a result he would need to concentrate on his spell for that.

"Keep the ghouls off of us!" Ethraeil yelled out as he brought his hands together and began to concentrate magic in between them, pulsating blue ice growing more and more intense as he rejoined the carriage and stationed himself on the roof once more.

Camille saw the briefest of flashes before the imminent detonation of the building, forcing her to duck and throw herself to the side of her horse as she gripped it tightly. Quickly she pulled on the reins to get her horse to pivot so that the steed would shield her body from the flying debris. Its tougher hide and larger body meant that the impacts would hopefully be less painful than if it was all to strike her.

After her quick thinking let her out of the situation unscathed, she rose back to a proper riding position, eyes wide at the inferno before them. Seeing what remained of the inn made her even angrier over the plight of this town, reminding her of what exactly they were running from. "Too soon to be cornered, but he's right - we cannot risk the bridge." she agrees. "And we cannot fight off the horde as we are, either!"

"Not much we can do." Theodore grumbled as he got up. He looked around them for any other possible route of escape other than the obvious trap. An alley or something that would give them a chance.

There wasn't anywhere for him to go from where he was sitting, and when the inn exploded and sent a rain of debris their way, he ducked low and contorted himself as quickly as he could when a few sizable shards of brick came his way and past the carriage. Even Francis managed to avoid getting hit. Their little cone of existence must have been pretty lucky to avoid the worst of it.

Blowing up the inn as part of this elaborate series of traps made him think of the creator of this maze as little more than a child. When he was a young boy, he and his elder brother had captured two rats and set them lose in the extravagant doll house owned by his sisters. The little beasts tore their way through the miniature chambers and rooms, and tore the dolls apart when they found them. They even occasionally pulled the floor out from their little feet to watch them drop a level and scurry around. Now, he felt not like those rats, but the dolls. All caught up in maze with a master hand tracking them and with monsters at their heel. Whoever had designed this mess - child or not - he would kill them.

"There has to be another route! A bridge is an obvious choice to destroy! They can wipe us all out in one single pass!"

Edmond came out of the smoke and debris, grunting as he raised his hand. The ghouls paused for a moment to look up to him, and he made a few gestures with his hand. Soon, a large group of the ghouls moved to flank the inquisitors on two sides of the intersection. As the ghouls did his bidding, he slowly lowered and walked towards the inquisitors again. His wings lifted as he readied his sword. Once he was near them, he gave them a polite bow before charging towards the closest inquiry member.

The ghouls moved about, passing through nearby buildings and alleys to block the other escape routes in an attempt to funnel the group to the right path. They were clearly intent on pushing them towards the bridge, be it rigged or not. Francis lobbed another pipe bomb into the crowd behind them, the bomb going off and killing several more as it slowed the group down a bit. Still, it wasn't enough to outright stop them or kill the entire group. He'd need several crates of explosives for that to happen.

Ser Edmond landed soon enough, and launched his attack on Galina. He rushed in with rapid speed, swinging his sword and slicing across Galina's side. As the rest of the group turned about to counter attack, he darted away just as fast as he had arrived. Valeria looked up to Ethraeil, as he climbed atop the carriage and began to charge his spell, then got an idea. If he was thinking the same thing she was, then they could potentially escape. "Ethraeil! We can deal with the smaller traps! Keep charging that spell till we reach the bridge, then set it off!" she said loudly, before turning her horse about and rushing down the right street towards where the bridge was in the distance. Rosanna fired off several shots after Edmond, before turning her own horse and following after Valeria.

"Ah, godsdammit!" Francis howled as the Senior Inquisitor urged the group toward the bridge in defiance to common sense. The hoard was trying to encircle them, but they stood a good chance of trampling and breaking through the ghouls on the opposite path if they could simply move quick enough. However, thanks to those who failed to avoid the blast from the inn, they were moving too slowly. He nearly suggested pressing onward without them, as he figured they stood a better chance of survival by crashing through than they would if they played into the enemy's obvious trap. "Get back up here, bloodsucker or else I'll leave you behind!" he screamed at Wesley with a burning hatred in his eyes. He snatched up his shotgun, resigned to aim for Ser Edmond, if the monster deigned to make another appearance, since his pipe bombs were failing to delay the enemy's advance. Additionally, if the carriage went onto the bridge, then he was considering leaping for the river below. At the very least, he could attempt to swim while the rest of the inquiry was blown to smithereens.

He let out a frustrated grunt as he searched the road ahead for more hidden traps. It was all he could do in the interim.

The sudden blast didn't catch Galina completely off-guard though her senses kicked in too late for her to warn the others. Once it was time to move again she steadied herself and clapped Boris on the neck.

When Edmond came charging Galina tried to duck but grimaced as she was wounded. She raised her rifle and tried to clip his wings from afar.
