Katsuya , I think to make it clear, it's like whenever James was great living up to being Howl's son, he was admired. But whenever he wasn't they compared him to his father and that made him insecure. And he kind of carried that until this day.
Yea. That's how it is with James. But it's weird that he's doing that with people who haven't mentioned Howl at all.

James is just aaaaw. xD I think Lydia doesn't look at him like he should be like his dad because she's not like her parents, but that doesn't mean she's not any good. She's just good in a different way so she looks at James like that, he's special in his own way and doesn't have to be like his dad to be so.

Yeah, he's the one that brings up Howl all the time. xD like yeah, Lydia was his apprentice, but she doesn't bring him up to James unless she's talking about what he would think of something that she has done because she feels like she has something to live up to where James doesn't because he's his son and not someone he was training.

If only he understood that! I'm acting him this way from an article I read, about guys not being able to get the hints of girls and stuff have to be spelled out.
Like I read this one that was like:
Girl: Did you enjoy the class?
Boy: It was alright. (shrugs)
Girl: Okay. (looks disappointed)
What she actually wanted him to say was that it was all nice because she was there and talking to him instead of about the so-so class itself.

Yea and Renee didn't even mention Howl at all, only said that she looked up to James because of his smarts. Echo didn't know much about Howl. Chenglei doesn't even know his name. Serena doesn't know either.

It's the opposite of what Renee and Seifer have who are more emotional and follows their guts. Lydia and James think too much and don't really feel feel their hearts unless it's massive like with the Hailey thing. So I think that's why James doesn't ask and why Lydia can't handle it. It's foreign and weird to them. That and James is normally someone who don't really like showing his 'mushy' side so with that logic going, he's not going to noticed that she never talks about her emotions.

Soo... anyways I'm taking bits of ideas and trying different approaches.
Maybe a comedy character? a young and generally unassuming person to join what is an expedition force could set up obstacles- maybe the character doesn't know their purpose in the group but desperately clings to any opportunity to help. Someone with a ...well... questionable view of the world.
For instance, When the character messed up or made a simple mistake- the mistake may be brushed off by the group- but the character may see it from a more ... well... nervous perspective (as if the group was being sarcastic and was actually seeing the character to be an annoyance.) The character would feel unworthy of their presence.
maybe to combine the ideas- we could have a character that mainly acts lighthearted and almost carefree around others - maybe because the character would feel embarrassed or something if the group were to find them in distress.- and in private may be silent and almost trapped in their own world- trying to fix themselves with bottling the feelings up- mentally kicking themselves- and forcing a smile.
To add onto conflicts, maybe the character wouldn't know their profession. They could be molded onto a certain skill by the group or the events that occur. The character may also throw themselves into situations
The villain could be:
A second form of the character- a shadowy animal stalker who scavenges off of the group- (maybe) causing mischief and fear. maybe it takes someone's spellbook or something vital alongside food and other resources....

This is quite an effective way to hold my ideas, so I don't forget them in the future.
I should actually discuss this due to it being a bit on the ...darker side of things once again. so changes may take effect. I'll add the changes to the " Ideas" tab thingy in small change logs.
