Fandom How to Train your Dragon 2

Inger popped her head out of her workshop. Dragon racing with hiccup in it? Sounded fun. Cracking her knuckles, she went out and signed up, laughing to herself as she watched Hiccup and Astrid's playful banter.

Ax and Axle arrived at the tavern, with their dragons Plesioth the sharkworm and Careeb the typhoomerang respectively, soaking wet and dripping water. Having gone dragon riding together in the ocean, they were both in high spirits and laughing together companionably. However, at the sight of the tavern as crowded as it was, both smiles dimmed. "I'll get the ale." Axle said softly, knowing how much her brother hated crowded spaces. Walking into the tavern, she found it abuzz, and realized there was going to be a dragon race. Waiting for Inger to finish signing up, she walked over and wrote down her brother's name and dragon type down - knowing that Ax wouldn't miss a competition.

After she was finished, she moved over to the bar, her dragon Plesioth trailing behind her. "I'll have the usual please." She said to the barmaid, looking around. Hiccup was in, as was Astrid and Eret and Freya and Thaku and Gobber... It was like the whole island of Berk was in. Placing her payment on the counter prematurely, Axle saw Ax and his typhoomerang from the entrance. Her brother's dragon Careeb had settled his head on top of the one of his rider, and Axle stifled a laugh. Behind her, she heard the thump of three mugs as her order was delivered - two ales for her and Ax, and a mug of water for Plesioth, as the sharkworm couldn't be out of water for very long.

"Morning Axle!" Inger said cheerfully, raising her own recently bought mug of ale. "Out for a morning swim too, were you?"

Hearing her name, Axle turned around to realize that Inger had greeted her. "Morning." She said with a fleeting smile. "Well, more like a morning water dragon riding... But yes, I have." She said cheerfully, wincing a little at the sight of the water dripping down her clothes and hair. Beside her, Plesioth was staring a the mug of water, and the brunette grinned at her dragon, picking up the mug and pouring the water down his neck. Making a cheerful chirping, the dragon nudged his rider's hand in thanks. "Signed up for the dragon race, have you?" Axle asked Inger as she started to walk to give Ax his ale, having seen the other girl writing her name down as she entered the tavern.

"Yup. Thrander and I're planning to wipe the floor with the competition." She grinned, the confidence easily rolling off her tongue. Laughing, she added. "If you want a potion to help keep the water off your clothes and saddle, stop by my workshop. Got sick of starting my mornings wet what with Wavesting and all."

Thaku thinks about entering but decides not to her and Valkyrie don't really race they liked to fly and all just not really the competitive types. She looks up and smiles at the two new trainers in the bar. Looks at Valkyrie "We are just going to watch for this race if you are ok with that.'' Valkyrie licks her and drinks the water she had.

Raising an eyebrow, Axle reluctantly gave way to a cheerful grin. "Well, Ax'll be glad to hear that he's got a few competitive spirits to make the competition interesting." She said, nodding towards her brother who was still waiting outside the tavern with the typhoomerang Careeb's chin resting on his head. Dripping wet also, the pair had made a decent sized puddle, and Ax's long braided hair was splayed across his shoulders. At Inger's offer, Axle considered the notion before shaking her head apologetically. "I appreciate it, but Plesioth and I are probably going to take another dip right after this." She said, patting her dragon's neck. "He doesn't stay out of the water much, and therefore I don't usually stay dry, even if I want to." She said apologetically with a smile.

"Sure, but if you ever change your mind, the offer stands." She downed her ale quickly and went out. Seeing Axle's tidal class dragon made her miss her own. Maybe she'd go for another swim with Wavesting before the race.

A lot had gone on as Thakhu, Freya, and he had their drinks of Ale. "Heard about the competition?" He asked rhetorically as he looked to and from Freya and Thakhu. "Yea, who are we kidding. I still needs loads of practice before I could remotely win." He wasn't too happy to admit it, but he wasn't going to make a fool out of himself and say he'd win any dragon race. Especially, with a Rumblehorn. They're slow like hell. Eret was going to need some serious training to learn strategies to win any game or race. He felt the urge to sulk, but sat straight and proudly none the less, "How about some tips ye can give me now?" He looked at Thakhu, "You can give me tips too if ya know any."

Tyr had been sailing around for a few weeks and needed a place to stock up on water again. "Okay you two. The nearest island is a place called Berk. If the rumors are true, they are an island of dragon riders. Seems like the perfect place to visit." He says talking to his two dragon companions that were hovering alongside his boat. "Echo, mind speeding us up?" the young sailor asked the Thunderdrum.

The request was met with a grumble and the dragon positioned itself behind the sail, waited half a second for Tyr to cover his ears, and let out a roar that propelled the boat at an incredible rate. "Thank you!" Tyr yelled to the still roaring dragon.

"You still with me Wyvern?" he asked, looking for the young Scuttleclaw. The dragon responded by knocking his legs out from under his feet and laughing. "Yes. Yes you are."

Calder Cold flew on the back of his Flightmare through the frozen areas of the north. "Yahoo!!!" the young man yelled at the top of his lungs before laying back on the dragon. "Alright Loki, ready to try this?" he asked the dragon.

The Flightmare flicked its head in a 'no' and continued to glide.

"C'mon, it'll be fun." Calder stated before slipping off the back of his dragon and plummeting towards the freezing waters below.

Loki responded with a groan and dove down parallel to Calder's path and sprayed him with his toxin, leaving him immune to the cold, but not paralyzed with such a small amount.

"See, not so bad." Calder says before crashing into the water with a large splash followed immediately by Loki snatching him from the water.

Axle smiled appreciatively and watched Inger walk out before following her to hand Ax his ale. The man frowned at her, obviously annoyed that she had taken so long, but Axle only rolled her eyes. "There is a dragon race in two days time." She said, and received the reaction that she had expected. "What? Where is the signup?" Ax asked, his head shooting up and bumping his dragon's chin off of him. Axle laughed, shaking her head. "I've already signed you up. They are talking tactics inside, if you want to join them. Also, Inger offered me a potion that would dry me up, but since Ples and I are going swimming soon anyways, I turned it down. You might find it useful though." She said, thinking that her brother needed some social time, before walking off with Plesioth. She had already left the ale mug and the water mug in the tavern, and her dragon sprang ahead eagerly, desperate to get back in the water.

A grin spreading across her face, Axle ran after her dragon, and the pair reached the cliff hanging quickly. Her dragon had already disappeared off the edge, and Axle ran off of the cliff, free-falling with wild laughter. Before she could hit the water, her yellow and green dragon appeared from the depths and caught her, and the pair rocketed off into the ocean. As they rocketed through the water, Axle started to hear a loud rumbling sound, and Plesioth started to slow. Recognizing the sound as one belonging to a dragon, the brown-haired girl urged her dragon on. "Come on, Ples, lets see what is going on." She murmured, and the sharkworm put on a burst of speed. Soon they were upon a boat, and the sound was eardrum-breaking. Axle had her hands over her ears, hanging onto Plesioth with her legs alone, and the sharkworm settled for leaping alongside the boat like a yellow and green dolphin.

"Who are you?!" She yelled, a bit abruptly, over the noise at the sailor. He didn't seem threatening, but all the same Axle wished that Plesioth hadn't settled for a position so close to the stranger's boat - as she did not recognize them or their dragons.

Thakhu looked at him and laughed. "Sorry but I can't help you train. I have Valkyrie trained because the two of us found each other on days we weren't so well and we bonded. Bond with him and he will listen to you better. That's all I have sorry I couldn't help. We are not even going to enter the race. But I hope you do well." She turned and looked at the viking standing by the doorway and smiled at him then watched her dragon laughing at her.

Valkyrie was trying to find a dragon to play with so she was going to all the dragons in the place trying to get them to play with her. So far she was unsuccessful.

Eret thought of Thakhu's only advice and nodded respectively, "Thank you." He was a bit shocked at she did not enter the race. From what he's heard, it is the most exhilarating event. He sighed as he recalled his lack of participation. He won't make himself look like a fool in front of a crowd. He needs to... bond with his dragon more. "Skullcrusher," he said firmly. The Rumblehorn turned in his direction with a huff. Skullcrusher was glad Valkyrie has moved her attention to other dragons. He wobbled in Eret's direction. "Want to watch me fix my fish trap?" The Rumblehorn stomped his two front feet simultaneously. Eret was taken aback. He didn't know what that meant. "Anyone speak dragon?"

Ax was left to frown after Axle as she walked away with Plesioth, and turned his head to look inside again. He would have to give his mug back, so it would look like he was going inside. Besides, the talk of tips seemed moderately interesting? From what he could see, there weren't any exceedingly serious riders in, except Hiccup and Astrid, but he highly doubted that Axle would be indirectly asking him to talk with them... Sighing, he walked inside, Careeb trailing behind him. Placing his mug on the counter, he overheard some of Eret and Thaku's conversation. Crossing his arms, he looked over at them. "I think that is a yes. Or at least, it is with this one over here", a thumb jerked in his typhoomerangs's direction, "but that one is a bit messed up in the mind." That earned him a suspicious look from his dragon, but Ax smirked cynically back at the questioning snout that prodded at him. "But hey, if you want racing tips, I might be able to help out." He volunteered, giving into Axle's will and deciding to attempt to socialize for once.

Thakhu looks back to see the Rumblehorn stomp his feet. "He's right. She does the same thing or drags me where ever we needed to go and If I were you I think he might be one to listen to about racing. His dragon seems to like him." Looks at him and his dragon then over to Ax and his dragon. "Valkyrie even likes him and that's new for her to like another person and your dragon is fine they are all crazy.''

Valkyrie is still trying to find someone to play with.

Tyr was still rocketing across the ocean towards Berk. The Thunderdrum's powerful roar kept the small vessel moving for a good distance before needing another roar. Tyr was still holding his ears to keep his hearing and his eyes were locked in the direction of Berk. "Almost there Echo! One more should get us within sight of the Island!" he yelled to the dragon before hearing another deafening roar followed by the sound of splitting wood. "Not now!"

Shortly after the words were uttered, the mast of the small boat broke off and went flying into the sea. "Dang it. There goes prototype three."

Wyvern sat next to Tyr on the boat and laughed again. "Oh be quiet. Echo, you mind flying me?"

The request was met by another grumble from the Thunderdrum.

"I know you're tired, but Wyvern is too small to ride and we need to get to Berk. We are low on drinking water and we need a new mast... Again."

Echo shook his large head and landed on the vessel with a large thud.

"Fine, we'll drift to Berk. But if I die of dehydration, I'm blaming you."

Tuck turned in surprise when Ax answered his question and Thakhu vouched. "Really?" Eret stood up and touched Skullcrusher's forehead, "So, I impressed you, eh?" This lightened Eret's heart. He was worried that he would never get his Rumblehorn to like him. "Some advice ye can give me now?" He looked back in Ax's direction. Skullcrusher was moving his head in a way that it seemed he was trying to get Eret's hand off him. He just rejected my hand, great... He crossed his arms and heightened his chest, anticipating Ax's advice.

Axle had been staying clear of the boat where the rumbling sound was coming from, her hands over her ears and her dragon treading water, carefully observing the sailor and his dragons (Tyr). When a snap sounded, Axle's head came up to see the mast flying off the boat, presumably from the Thunderdrum's earsplitting roar propeller. After waiting awhile, she realized that the sailor was planning to simply drift into Berk, as he was making no attempt to either change his direction - the island was starting to show on the horizon now - or hurry the boat up. "How about it, Ples? Want to figure out what this lot is doing around these parts?" She asked her dragon, and the yellow and green serpent, in response, started to swim towards the boat. The dragon had a way of moving that Axle's head stayed above the water, but the dragon stayed completely submerged.

Looking much like a drifting head, Axle pulled Plesioth to a stop a few meters in front of the boat, her back to the island of Berk. She regarded the young sailor quizzically, staying silent. "Who are you?" She asked suddenly, Plesioth's head emerging from the water to get an above-water vantage point of the newcomers.

Ax snorted softly at Eret's reaction to both his presence and his words, and moved over to sit beside the other guy and Thakhu. Careeb sensed that he might be sitting for awhile, and the gray and orange dragon started to curl up around Ax's stool, before thinking better of it and sitting beside the long-haired man, resting his head against Ax's shoulder. Careeb was an unusually cuddly dragon, especially for his size, but the two had been together for quite awhile now and Ax never thought about it twice. Seeing Eret withdraw his hand from Skullcrusher's head, Ax smiled apologetically. "Not all dragons really like to be touched. Careeb here is like one giant teddy-bear," he placed an arm around his dragon's neck as he spoke, "but many dragons prefer keeping to themselves." He explained, moving his head as to decrease the danger of being prodded with one of his dragon's horns.

"Anyways, I was talking racing, wasn't I? Rumblehorns are more of a tracking dragon, so for you it'd make sense to get some sheep hide before the race and hone him in on the scent. Them lot aren't very fast, but they'll beeline towards anything that you ask them to track with the right training, and if you know the island well you can take a number of shortcuts to get back to the bins quickly. If you want to win one day, you should probably work on your tracking; train the dragon to use its natural instincts while tracking the sheep, but make sure it'll obey you completely if you want to keep the sheep all the way back to the bins, because then the rest of the competitors will be after you. It also helps that Rumblehorns have thick hides and large wings, it'll stop any blasts of air or water from knocking the sheep out of your hands." He finished, thinking of what he would do if he came across a Rumblehorn rider with a sheep.

(whoa totally stopped getting notifications for this! sorry!) Freya makes her way out of the tavern to where everyone else had gathered. She makes her way over and stands near Eret. She listened to Ax's advice on the race, nodding approvingly. "That's some of the best advice I've heard. I couldn't have explained it any better myself. Also Eret, you still seem to be treating him as a separate entity, rather than being one in the same with him. You can't treat him as a pet. You need to see him as an equal and only then will you get the respect from him you want. I know your dragon hunting days have probably made it an unintentional habit." She says with a kind smile before looking back at Ax "Do you have any advice for stormcutters racing" She motions towards Thunder. "I've always felt he was too big to put in the race and was wondering if you felt the same"

Ax felt vaguely uncomfortable when Freya walked over, as everytime the crowd grew he became increasingly claustrophobic, but his mind had a problem related to dragon racing so he was only half aware of his growing discomfort. Looking up at she began to talk, he nodded at her piece of advice. "Yeah, that is also key. I suppose most of us just take it for granted, treating dragons like another person, but for you I suppose it'd be different." He agreed, talking to both Eret and Freya at the same time. Falling back into silence, he looked towards Freya again as she asked him a question. "Well hey, I like to think that Careeb here and I broke the feeling that any dragon is too big to race." He said, and his dragon snorted at the sound of his name. "I mean, he's a small typhoomerang according to standards, but he is still around as big as your stormcutter." He explained, snorting back at his dragon.

"I don't see why stormcutters wouldn't be good for racing. They have exceptional maneuverability, which would give you the upperhand when navigating close to the earth and searching for sheep. Besides, if another dragon rider tries to steal a sheep from you, a stormcutter would probably be able to avoid the other dragon from getting close. I don't know very much about their speed abilities, but from what I know they certainly aren't slow." He said with a shrug, openly speculating. "Regarding speed, is anybody else up for a speed race? I've been sitting here under a roof for too long." He declared, hopping off his stool, leaving a puddle of water from his dripping hair and clothing.

Valkyrie gives up her quest for a playmate and comes over to Thakhu and sits behind her. "That sounds like something to watch. The two of us don't really race much. Not something we like to do all the time." She looked back at her dragon and smiled at her. Valkyrie looked at Careeb and though this is a dragon I haven't bothered yet.

Eret shook his head when Axle openly asked for a race, but decided to give him a smart remark, "What race isn't about speed?" He let out a laugh then said,"Count me out." The speed of his dragon, which is not fast at all, was enough for him for now that he lacks experience. He hates losing anyway.
