Homework 1 [On Campus]

Entering the building, the last shred of light vanishes, leaving Esali the only guide. In the distance, Kenji hears a soft splash.

Inside the building, a large entrance hall fans out, flights of stairs leading up and down. Squat skeletons are strewn around the foyer, and the signs of a battle: broken arrows. A map is engraved on the wall, showing a labyrinthine network of tunnels stretching deep under the mountain.

Esali moves to investigate the map. If she can find a series of confusing twists and turns, maybe she can breeze through them and leave Eral befuddled.

"Watch your step, there's some . . . debris scattered around." She does her best to lead Kenji around the bodies, but she doesn't want him to trip. Still, there's no need to panic him with the nature of the detritus.

A particularly twisty path leads down into the bowels of the mountain through a series of catacombs, one of half a dozen sprouting from the main town indicated by the map face. Kenji hears another splash, and esali catches a skitter of motion in the corner of her eye towards the river where it flows into a grate on the floor below.

Apologies for the delay.

Esali jumps at the sudden movement and looks back at the door they cam through, the possible dangers finally starting to penetrate. With nerves beginning to show, she half thinks out loud and half looks for reassurance, "Probably . . . not a good idea to just stand around, right? Yeah, we should start moving again." Despite her trepidation, she still fully intends to succeed, and so leads the way to and down the promising path from the map.

Meh, delays happen. C'est la vie.

Traveling through the catacombs, the signs of battle get fiercer and fiercer, with chunks ripped out of the wall. Finally, light begins to return and kenji is able to see faint outlines of the surroundings. A wide cavern with light filtering in through gaps in the roof becomes visible, the remainders of farming tools rusting in irrigation channels choked with weeds. In the center of the cavern, a well rests. There don't seem to be any ways out of the cave except back, up, or down.

Esali sees old realm script on the wall nearby. I'm not sure what languages you speak checking your character sheet, but it's vitally important before moving on.

"I think i can see somewhat better now Esali. Thank you for guiding me carefully in this cave. Without you i'd most certainly be lost in such darkness".

OOC:
Kenji knows Old Realm, so if Esali shows him the script on the wall, he can probably read it.

Esali waves off Kenji's thanks, "Any time. You'd do the same for me, right?" Despite her words, she sighs inwardly. Being responsible for someone's well-being like that is stressful. It's kind of a relief to not be on the hook for anything that happens to him again.

Spotting the script on the wall, Esali scurries over to take a look, "Lookit this here."

Sorry, that's an oversight on my part. I've got the languages on more than half the pages of her PDF sheet, but somehow forgot to copy them to the text one. She does indeed speak Old Realm and I'll update the character sheet with the languages now.

Reading the old realm script, the pair can make out a few syllables among those which have been worn down into irrecognizability. "...ware ...ar gole... green blue green."

Esali reads the words with a confused look and scans the chamber. Staring up at the openings in the ceiling, she looks at Kenji, "Can you jump us out through one of those? Or if not both of us, yourself at least?"

"Well, I can certainly try. And don't forget. We're in this together and I won't leave you back. After all if it weren't for you I wouldn't be able to see a thing down here".

Kenji smiles encouragingly to Esali, holding her tightly in his strong arms and activates his aspect ability via his anima, the grace of Air enveloping him, jumping up, to the direction indicated by her.
