Hi! It's great to meet alla you. First off, my names name's Liza, you could call me that, or my username xD I'm a seasoned rper, but this is my first time on this forum. I enjoy reading and writing, role playing, listening and video games among other hobbies. Some of my interests include pirates (I love pirates), Steampunk (All the better, steampunk pirates) horror anything and Jojo's Bizzare Adventure.

That's all I can think of for the moment, hope to have a great time here!

Hi there Liza ^_^ I'm Mariko. I'm also new to this site so I'm meandering around the introductions forum. I also like steampunk pirates. There definitely needs to be more steampunk/pirate related things in the world. Do you read books/play games with those themes? I don't know of many, but I do love the movie Castle in the Sky. Pirates+flying machines = awesome.

Castle in the sky is great! Steamboy is another good one. I do read such books when I can find them and I've been working on writing some. As far as just Pirates go, I really liked Treasure Island.

I've never heard of Steamboy, but I googled it and it looks very interesting. I'll definitely have to check it out at some point.

Writing is pretty challenging, but it's definitely a lot of fun too. Good luck with it ^_^

It's been awhile since I've read Treasure Island, but I remember enjoying it a lot. I also enjoyed Disney's adaption (it was fun albeit a bit pop-culturish at moments). Pirate stories are always so exciting, though I imagine actually sailing on the ocean for days on end was probably tedious in real life. Even videogames that involve sailing across a large overworld map can get boring (until you get to start shooting at ships with cannons like in Assassin's Creed:Black Flag). But a good nautical adventure, especially one with pirates, is a great way to pass the time.

Welcome to RPN! *throws confetti in air* I'm Kestrel, but you can call me Kes if you want. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Enjoy your stay!

While being a pirate could be tedious, a lot of real life pirates started out as sailors, who were often treated badly. Pirates were actually very fair, most things were even decided by vote. Thus, often when a crew of pirates would attack a ship, they would pick up sailors who were tired of the awful treatment

Well I'm sure it must have been preferable in some ways to being a part of the navy. Though a lot of it likely came down to how good a captain was and how well they would treat their crew. Deciding things by democracy is a pretty good way of running a ship, since no one person would be to blame if a decision went badly. Of course, the navy would not have been able to do that, since they couldn't have ships going off in every which way. That gives the navy an advantage of numbers and coordination, but pirates the advantage of unpredictability. I think both are fascinating, but stories about the old navy ships would likely be less entertaining than pirate stories. After all, most excitement would probably come from pirates attacking. I did read a story about a boy in the navy once, but halfway through he became a pirate. I guess pirates are inherently more interesting.

Hello! My name is Sayaka and it's nice to meet you Liza~ I am also a seasoned RPer and as much as I like writing, I don't often finish any of them, which is quite sad :( I really love pirates, too, although I'm not as knowledgable as you and Mariko ^-^'' My first love for pirates come from One Piece and Killian from Once Upon a Time.

Afternoon ClockworkLiza!

I'm Tridan! And also quite new to this site o,o

I'm not a seasoned RPer or anything, just trying to learn the ropes now as a matter of fact!

So yeah, I am absolutely lost around here xD but if you ever feel like starting an RP I'm always up for joining in!

Also, since I can't send PMs yet (stupid 10 post thing :P ) I'd like to ask if you'd be willing to introduce me to roleplaying?

Like, what should/shouldn't you describe of a character and how to set up kind of a setting and such?

I would really love that if you would be willing to take the time ^^

Of course, you don't have to. If you don't feel like or don't have the time on your hands that's cool. I can always find my own way around the site :D

Anyhow, welcome to the site!

Hi Tridan! I'd love to lend a hand! :) There are of course always different methods and styles of rping, so don't take everything I say as gospel, the important thing is to relax and have fun. There are two styles of rping I am familiar with, Script (Bob: Hello my name is bob *waves*) And Literary (Bob smiled, raising his hand in a friendly wave. "Hello, my name is bob.") I prefer the first but both are good, it will likely vary from game to game. I think good character development is an important factor, as if your character is too bland they won't be fun to play, but too over powered and it's not fun for anyone else. Try to find a balance, if your character can heal things, try to add a serious flaw, maybe she can't heal herself, or tires easily. If their very smart, maybe they aren't a good fighter, or socially awkward. What you shouldn't describe of a character can vary on the character, if they're meant to be very mysterious give only small bits of information at a time, spreading it over the roleplay. If it's just a typical highschooler you can give a little more. maybe he/she talks about her family life, be it good or bad. I think the most important tip I can give you though is don't rely on whoever is running the rp to carry the entire plot. Get your hands dirty!

I know that pain, but when you finish even one it feels great! I've never been a fan of Once Upon a Time, but I thought One Piece was pretty enjoyable. My love of pirates came from reading Peter Pan as a child ^3^

Thanks for the tips!

I'm really hestitant usually when I step in an RP or in a group-chat (tried it before but didn't really like it)

Usually I'm not sure whether others'll agree or not but I think I'll follow your guidelines ^^

I personally prefer literary since for me it feels more like you're into the story but I get that it can be a bit chaotic otherwise.

Thanks for the elaborate response!

Oh my gosh! Peter Pan! I can't believe I almost forgot >~< Unfortunately, I only watched the Disney version (a lot of times) and not the real people one. I should watch it soon :o

No problem! The first time stepping into a new thing is always scary, but I'm sure you'll do fine! If you'd like some practice, I'm perfectly happy rping with you

Greetings!

I hope you'll have a great time here and that you'll meet wonderful new people.
