She’s excited that seem very happy to have her help; or at least Flare does. She nods in affirmation yet stays silent, watching as Seraphina tries to reason with the creature. She’s not sure what she expected, but the creatures sudden penchant for death has her skin crawling. She follows Flare into the attack, following the path they’ve set so she doesn’t get hit, and holding her hand (the one with the beads around it) out to the puppet creature.

“Star Flare!“ Stars seem to appear and erupt from her skin, doing a targeted strike against the puppet in an attempt to stun it. She then moves back slightly, just enough to keep Flare in her range should it move to them. She’s remembering what Torin said about it fighting short range. She’s doesn’t want it anywhere near her.

actions
- Move towards puppet
- Attack with Star Flare (targeted)
Star Flare (targeted) - Magic (E), Magic Range (F), Star Affinity (F), Incapacitate (F), Target (F) - After saying the name of the spell, stars seem to form on Lisan’s skin, before erupting outwards to strike up to 5 targets within 30 feet of her. - Grade E - Cooldown = One Post
- Move away from puppet (15ft from Flare)

Talks had failed and the puppet unable to talk real from fake attacked seraphina's illusion. Well at least it was out in the open now so bright side there. Fighting something hiding was far more annoying than one out in the open. The illusion of the girl vanished as the ice was cut in half and seraphina let it go. She had some new tests to conduct now that they were fighting. Flare was the first to jump out seemingly angered by the puppet lashing out at nothing. Setaphina couldn't help but like that part of flare despite knowing the illusion was not there she still had odd outbursts towards it.

Setaphina focused and started to weave a new magic. [magic E] [componetless magic E ] [illusion F] [Magic Augmenter: #Range F] [spell duration F] [Magic Augmenter: #Selective F] mixed together so that she wove an illusion just fir the puppet and to keep it simple she flipped his world over up became diwn and down up. A skilled warrior could likely fight through this no problem, but seraphina doubted it was that skilled

Actions

1. Use [magic E] [componetless magic E ] [illusion F] [Magic Augmenter: #Range F] [spell duration F] [Magic Augmenter: #Selective F] to create am illusion in invert the puuets perception on the world

Confusion got the best of the puppet, as even though Flare announced her presence prior, it was too lost to really react properly to their attack. The impact of the attack, on top of its distorted perspective courtesy of Seranphina, almost made him fall backwards. But not quite. Still, the splashing fire managed to melt all nearby ice traps, with the resulting puddles and humidity preventing the forest for catching on fire.

It seemed to realize what was going on. It was being ambushed and attacked. Its face lacked expression, so his mental state was hard to grasp. What was understandable is that it was now fully prepared to fight.

It dodged Lisan's follow-up attack with precision and grace. And then launched a horizontal attack on her. Before it could reach her, however, Torin clashed swords with the puppet, making each other slide backwards "Aogi." "Torin." They greeted each other with a faint hint of respect in their voices. "Together, everyone! I'll cover you."

Picking up on potential maneuvers, A blue sheen radiated from Aogi's free hand. Causing a thick barrier of ice to surround them. "No escape". Their space became limited, making ranged attacks difficult. Or so was its plan.

Flare definitely got the drop on the puppet as their flames scorched over the ice traps that hazarded their movement. The once sharp and glistening ice turned to damp muddy puddles, harmless to any flesh and blood who step in them. Even in their suit Flare could still handle stepping in them with little issue, though admittedly they were cautious not to make too much of a splash just in case they seeped into their suit. Their attack meanwhile would hit the puppet, causing him to nearly throw him off-balance. Yet it would still stand, ready to retaliate. Though as Flare began thinking of their next attack, they saw a dazzling display of stars shooting by them cast by Lisan and heading towards their target.

They looked rather pretty from Flare's angle... pretty deadly even.

The puppet quickly dodged and made a strike towards Lisan, only for her to be saved by Tonin's blade. Both the samurai and the puppet - referred as Aogi - seemed to know each other a bit more than initially given on. Tonin urged them to move to the shrine while he covered them from the puppet. The fire elemental wanted to join in on the fight, but their mission was to retrieve the amulet... and to do that they needed to press forward. Despite feeling conflicted on the situation, they would oblige. Flare was just about to run over before the wall formed, Aogi would seal their way of escape by casting an ice barrier to surround them. Flare skidded to a fault as they observed their situation, initially panicked...

Before turning into a smug chuckle.

"An ice barrier... really?" Flare smirked before digging an armored gauntlet into the barrier itself. "I got this guys. Stand back." Flare warned confidently, using their other hand to gesture them away. Heat began rapidly building into her afflicting hand, producing a brilliant glow of flaming orange and yellow. Their hand turned into a fist as they wound it back and punched the ice barrier with a powerful [Flaming Punch F] hoping to shatter a way out with one punch.

  2. Normal [Hit] on Ice Barrier [+ Control Environment F] (if needed).

Noticing that Torin is using his sword to attack, she casts out her hand. With a word, she sends a small (temporary) star onto the back of his hand, hopefully boosting his attacks.

Until then, she stays behind Flare, again trying to stun the puppet with her targeted attack. She’s not much use up close to the puppet, and seems too focused to talk.

Well inverting the puppets senses didn't seem to slow it down, but at least it wasn't hurting anyone just yet. It did seem that the puppet knew the person they were with. Well that shouldn't be to surprising , though she did wish he had mentioned he was on a first name basis with the puppet. Sera was starting to wonder if her normal illusions would even work on the puppet so she would need to change what her illusion was. Thankfully with the duration she didn't have to let it down to change what she made others see. Actually with some of her strength returned she could cast more than one illusion though she rarely did as she focused on thinking about what to do next. Her vantage point of being in the battle but separate from it letting her think more calmly than others. Well it was time to test just how much the puppet could see through her illusions.

The inverted world of the puppet would return to normal, but as it did the illusion changed as the world heated up, it got hotter and hotter as Seraphina weaved the illusion of something she knew far to well, fire. Fires started to break out around the puppet even it's ice seemed to start to burn in the flames only it could see. Seraphina assumed if it could see and feel the flames the puppet that seemed to favor ice would try to avoid the illusionary flames.

1. Later the illusion from an inverted work to a world starting to burn fires burning all over with realistic heat though no damage.

Flare's attacks did manage to weaken the ice wall. And while it didn't break, it was clear it was very close to lose its integrity. Torin chastised himself under his breath for not being clear with his instruction. While Aogi took advantage of Flare focusing on the barrier, lunging at them in an attempt to thrust its sword onto them. Torin blocked the hit, which made some pieces of his discreet armor to crack. "It has it! The shine on its hand!"

In the confusion, Aogi's wooden plates got chipped from the stars it barely dodged before going for Flare. As this next illusion of Seraphina did manage to induce wariness on the puppet, which felt obligated to hump on top of the barrier in search of an escape from the flames.

One. Two. Flare could feel themselves about to break through the ice barrier. With just another well-place hit, they'd be out of here in no time. Though as they wound up for a third hit, they'd feel a cold chill speeding towards them as Aogi dashed forth with deadly intent. The fire elemental wouldn't have time to induce a counterattack, yet would be saved by Tonin at the very last second. Flare could see bits of the samurai's wooden armor crack and dent upon impact, as he told them about having the shine on its hand.

The shine...? No... he surely meant the shrine? The place they they were headed? And the one just above the waterfall? Right?

...Wait.

OH! The SHINE!

Of course! He must be referring to the amulet! The very one they were told the puppet used to power its ice attacks! With this sudden realization, Flare felt incredibly foolish for thinking otherwise. If they could blush in embarrassment, their whole face would be a mighty bright pink. But now wasn't the time to reflect, it was time to make up. "I see it!" they called out, locking eyes on the shine at hand. Sera's efforts to push them back should provide them with enough space to stage an attack of their own, for while they didn't see the illusionary flames, they could tell their partner was doing their part.

Seeing the puppet leap on top of the barrier, Flare's mask rippled with angry flames as it unleashed a blazing torrent of flame towards it. With blade in tow, they were ready to chop this puppet bitch in two if given the chance, getting into a guarding position in the event they were to descend upon them.

" well looks like the fire illusion is working " Seraphina thought to herself as she noticed the puppet moving oddly trying escape something only the two of them could see " odd that the upside down world didn't work maybe because it's a puppet it is okay with moving like that? " It could also just have focused more on seeing through the illusion Flare was suppling plenty of real flames for the puppet to deal with and the elf did something with light erupting form her skin or something. " Magic here really is odd looking sometimes but it beats the other elf " Seraphina internally sighed, at least they weren't dragging someone who felt like dead weight around this time, though just not being negative would have made this elf far better than the last even if she didn't do anything.

" hmmm its up high time to switch things up " Seraphina though she was now having so much more fun now that that she could target people and not everyone. While being a defensives and offensive tool was honestly not bad being able to just mess with one being however she wanted was great. With the puppet up on its perch Flare would try to beam it and Seraphina again changed the illusion up though she would have to take a break soonish they only lasted a little bit in combat. The world around the puppet lost much of its fire, but started to move, twisting and twirling , it was like the puppet was spinning around fast as the world went round and and round. " Lets see if you can get dizzy " Seraphina mentally chuckled.

actions:
1. Change the illusion so that the world appears to be spinning rapidly around the puppet.

Lisan doesn’t let up, throwing another star flare at the puppet. The concept of ‘the shine’ going right over her head until Flare seems to lock onto something. Her eyes follow, and she sees the amulet. Oh. Oh!

Rushing up to Flare, she’d try to keep her voice to where only they could hear it.

”Can your sword friend make me invisible? I know she can handle illusions. Maybe if Torin can stun him for just a second I can grab it!” It’s a super risky idea, but might be worth a shot.

Flare and Lisan's combined efforts were a great success. The ice wall began to crumble and melt. And while normally the puppet would have been able to step away gracefully, Seraphina's illusion threw it off enough for it to lose balance once again.

Falling flat on its back, the puppet had to slowly get back up. Needing a moment to adjust to its distorted perception once more. Seeing as it still was disoriented, his next attack compensated for it by simply attacking all around it. Another gleam of light shone from within its off hand, producing a shower of ice needles going in all directions.

After finally regaining enough balance, the puppet bolted once again towards Flare. This time with a wide horizontal slash. Being closer to it once again, it was noticeable that the puppet had even more damage done to it. Charred here, chipped wood there, stone cracked. It was not looking good for it.

As Flare watched their foe collapse flat on its ass to the ground while its ice wall was melting into a slushy puddle, Lisan would ask the armored elemental if Seranphina could make her invisible. So if say Tonin restrained Aogi she could steal it off him while unseen. It was a reasonable idea, but Flare merely shook their head. "I think so!" they replied back, motioning to the blade, "Would be pretty cool if she could... waddya say Sera?"

Whatever the answer, Flare knew they had to act quickly. They noticed Aogi's amulet shining brightly in a light cold blue hue before producing a volley of icicle needles in a large radius. The fire elemental braced themselves as they shielded themself from the incoming needles. Though given their flaming hot biology, they believed they could tank it fairly easily - perhaps having the icicles bounce off their FURNACE suit or at the very least melt upon impact with their overall heat. Even if minimally damaged, Flare was confident they had this in the bag.

Though seeing Aogi regain his balance and glare in their direction, the time to formulate such a plan was at its critical. Should Sera be able to succeed, they may do so, but it seemed like Tonin wouldn't be able to reach the puppet in time. That meant the role fell to the big and burly Flare... and even so that seemed unlikely in the sudden heat of the moment as he bolted straight towards Flare ready to slash at em.

"Get ready!" Flare bellowed towards Lisan as they focused solely at their target as if their mind was on autopilot. Their time to finish this was reaching its critical climax... could they pull it off.

As the puppet began to swung his blade horizontally at them, Flare gripped the blade tightly as they instinctually crouched to the ground. Time seemed to slow down for Flare as the heat of the moment forced them to concentrate like never before. Then with a powerful yet quick thrust, Flare swung their blade vertically to counter the strike... only they weren't looking to shatter the blade. Or at least not intentionally.

Should luck have it, they might be able to severe one or both hands and allow the amulet to be freed from the puppet's grasp. Perhaps it might allow Lisan to grab the amulet before it may have a chance to hit the ground?

And should it miraculously connect, Flare would find themselves following up with point-blank blast of their [Flamethrower E], aiming to completely incinerate the puppet before it had a chance to react.

Actions:
  1. Guard against Ice Needle Barrage with [Control Environment F].
  2. Counter Aogi's Horizontal Strike; Aiming at the puppet's hands to disarm him and free the amulet.
  3. (SHOULD IT CONNECT) Flare blasts Aogi point-blank with [Flamethrower E].

The puppet seemed to shake off the illusions far easier than normal people, perhaps because it wasn't organic? Seraphina was wondering what best to do to help our with the fight. She really was not doing to much that seemed to contribute in her mind. Still every time it had to recover that was time it wasn't using to flee or attack. That likely was helping more than she admitted, but she wanted to do more than slightly delay enemies.

As she thought the others has an idea to make the elf invisible. That was an easy enough trick. She had been hiding people behind her illusions plenty. Now dhe could do it at range. Seraphina wpuld focus shifting tge illusion likely for the last time before she would need a break. She might try to speak but the ways she used magic limited her to 1 illusion.

1. Shift the illusion onto Lisan to make her invisible

Much like Flare predicted, the ice shards did minimal damage to their heated up suit. Damage is still damage however, as some of the shards did leave a noticeable mark on it.

As for Seraphina and Lisan, while the sentient blade did successfully made the elf vanish from Aogi's view, Lisan did not capitalize on it. Staying still and invisible made the puppet forget about her, but no contribution was made to the battle effort.

Torin decided to join Flare on the attack after the ice shards dispersed. First, he parried Aogi's strike aimed at Flare. And while Flare blasted it with fire, the samurai leaped forward while delivering a swift slash to the puppet's neck.

The duet's offensive proved to be beyond effective.

The parry left Aogi open for Flare's slash, which shattered the puppet's left forearm. Having lost its poise, their follow-up attack was also successful. As Aogi's frontal torso burned, Torin had a clean shot at his neck, which popped both the neck and the head out of their socket. It was over.

Aogi the Battle Puppet has fallen

Once again, the vast amount of water in the air managed to stop the disassembled body of the puppet from being nothing more than a pile of ash and charred rocks. Torin flicked his sword to remove most of the impurities that clung to it, and elegantly sheathed it. "So that's that. Well done, all of you."

Torin picked up the loose body parts of the puppet and placed them near the main body. Which he started to inspect. "Hmmm. Let's see..." After brushing and patting some sections, his face finally reflected something unexpected appearing. "Oh. Well, I can't say I didn't suspect something like this" After a quick tug, Torin held some sort of stone, and it had a seal of sorts attached to it. "Someone tampered with it. This seal is what made Aogi go berserk." The samurai stood up, while gently taking off the seal and put it away.

"I didn't want to debate it with you, Seraphina, as then I had no proof something else happened to Aogi. But as I'm sure you noticed, puppets like this one don't really have much in the way of thoughts. They are simple beings. And while the most likely scenario to occur was the right one to think of... Who knew? You may have been right"

While looking at the core he was holding, Torin got lost in thought. "Who did this?" was the most prevalent thought in his mind.

With a mighty swing, Flare was able to effortlessly disarm the puppet's sword arm. And as they began scorching Aogi alive with their flame beam, Tonin would come in for the finishing strike. One swift decapitation later and the puppet was neutralized, toppling lifelessly to the ground in a pile of scorched ash and rocks. The battle was over as swiftly as it began. Flare's mind finally began to settle down after the intense rush before time seemed to resume to normal speed. They felt oddly lightheaded. For what felt like one very long minute was in fact done in a short few seconds.

"Hoof." Flare sighed tiredly as they collected their bearings, "I... I think I blacked-out for a minute." Standing up to full height, the fire elemental observed the fruits of their collective labors. Yup. They got him. Tonin congratulated the group with gratitude as Flare gave a respectful thumbs up. "Aint no problem boss. That was... fun!" they replied before looking down at Sera's blade in hand and spoke lowly, "Good job Sera." They then tried looking for Lisan, but given she was invisible they couldn't quite know where she was. "And Lisan?" they called out, "You okay? Clap twice if you're still with us."

Once sheathing the blade onto their back, Flare rolled their armored shoulders to stretch out the lubricant in their joints before approaching Tonin glancing over at the remains. "You know... when you mentioned this guy possessing water magic with that amulet," they commented bluntly, "You got me reaaaaal on the fence there, not gonna lie. I thought we were dealing with someone who could gush buckets of liquid water and not, well, chucking frozen solidified water icicles. Dunno if I would still be here if it was the former. The fact we dealt with the latter made this job a whole lot easier... so yeah, I'm quite thankful I didn't get turned into a gush of steam!"

The samurai's investigation of the amulet meanwhile had turned up with the fact that it had been tampered with thanks to an added seal. That was what caused the puppet to go berserk. "Huh." the fire elemental commented as they took a closer look at the stone seal, "Well I be." Flare had only briefly dabbled in the texts of arcana, mostly being whatever Fraust had in his library. They only briefly heard about seals and really anything about tampering with said things, but for someone to commit such an alteration ought to be fairly skilled at magic. Some sort of mage, wizard, sorcerer, or who knows who.

"Got any ideas who might'a tampered with him?" Flare curiously asked, not expecting a complete answer. Guess they were curious too since they got to this point.

So the doll was messed with from the outside? The illusion of the girl that Seraphina used to interact appeared floating just off the ground her expression a mix of confusion and concern about the situation. The samurai hadn't been hiding thing she had just been being paranoid it seemed. Had once experience messed with her mind that much? Had it been just one? Seraphina was pretty sure in one of the lives before this she had been betrayed. Was it to make her a sword or bring her to this world?

" Yeah he was limited, though you never know when one will mess up and do more " She said with a shrug " Still good to see this all was a nice clean mission. " She was also glad they hadn't killed something that was as much a person as her just for existing. It puppet being messed with was much nicer on the mind v killing someone that was just trying to survive. Well trying to survive and not being something wrong like bandits they had made their choice.

Seraphina chuckled at Flare turning to steam " Well if you turned to steam i'm not sure how id bring you back, i might not find another good wielder " Sera said trying to sound playful despite the rather grim words. Still resurrection seemed to be a common enough thing to expect it out of a magic spring. Well those two that had thought it up had not been right in the head, but hey if she could be made into a blade then bringing people back would be simpler enough.

" Oh also" Seraphina suddenly thought of something " Not sure if you noticed but i was a bit to suspicious of you sorry " She added feeling a little bad for thinking the man was in some grand conspiracy.

Torin chuckled at Flare's observation "Black out, huh? Not bad for someone being led by instincts alone, then." Nodding to Flare calling a fight "fun". "I wonder if she ran away..." Torin sighed.

The samurai then decided to address Flare's concerns. "Niji amulets are like that. They come in a base element, water in this case. And depending on the nature of their wielder, they fixate on an aspect that somehow relates to the base element of the Niji, like ice with Aogi." Torin then pinched the bridge of his nose "Not a clue of an exact culprit. But it's likely it was someone trying to take Lady Ginji's position..."

Trying to take off of his mental checklist of potential culprits, he turned his attention to the enchanted blade. "Being wary of unknown circumstances is a good thing." He let the duo that stuck from beginning to end chat for a moment, busying himself with putting Aogi's remains in a sack. "Again, keeping one's guard up is sometimes a good thing. Worry not."

Once he was done, he held the recovered amulet. Torin wiped the ashes from it with his thumb as he started at it, then looked up to the peculiar duo. "Would either of you be interested in keeping it? My Lady did say I could use it as a reward if needed, after all."

Flare laughed at Sera's dark humor with a dismissive tone. "Oh pffft," they jested, "Then I'll just come back as a steam elemental and pick up where we left off! "

They then listened intently to Torin's explanation regarding how the Niji amulets worked. It seemed to make sense. Here it stood to reason that the water amulet was effected by the emotions of the puppet who had a more cold and distant persona towards everyone. Besides the puppet itself didn't seem to possess any natural ice abilities itself. Perhaps this emotion was fixated by the water amulet to give off the ice powers. Quite an interesting little gimmick. But one certainly useful for those lacking powers of their own.

The culprit of who tampered the amulet however could still not be identified, aside from wanting to usurp Lady Ginji from her role. Not that it was too much concern to Flare or the others at this point, but it made sense given their limited information. Though when Flare was presented with the opportunity to keep the water amulet, the fire elemental seemed hesitant. They carefully picked out the artifact with their metal fingers and raised it up towards the sun for a proper look.

Here they were... a fire elemental holding an object possessing a direct antithesis to their own make up. The very thing that they feared would kill them. It was a small chance, granted, but surreal that they found the courage to get a relative interest in it now. If this thing granted the puppet the ability to make ice... could it really work for Flare? And if so, what could they utilize from it if anything at all? Hopefully not liquid water itself but maybe...

"The fact we dealt with the latter made this job a whole lot easier... so yeah, I'm quite thankful I didn't get turned into a gush of steam!"

...Of course!

After quickly glancing around at the others to see if they wished to have it for themselves, Flare closed their hand around the amulet. "Sure." they nodded confidently at Torin, "I think I know someone who can do something with it. Thanks a lot man!"

They figured Fraust could find a way to integrate the amulet into their arsenal as a way to safely release steam-based powers. Could be useful. There were certainly a few ideas bouncing around in Flare's head, with no doubt more which can be uncovered with the help of their Artificer friend.

Handing the amulet with a small bow and a polite, Torin said "Thank you once again for helping me complete my mission" He then threw the sack with Aogi's remains over his shoulder "May the good wind lead your way". He solemnly offered, and then walked away while saying "...here's hoping we meet again"

With the possession in need to be brought back to the Daimyo's residence, Torin traveled with a swift and resolute stride. Not allowing any distractions preventing him from returning home.

Summary of the Roleplay (Briefly summarize the events and main storyline of the roleplay.)
A request to aid a samurai reclaim stolen property led to a small group to follow him to a berserk puppet. This puppet was property of the local Daimyo, and the priority in terms or reacquiring, while the magic amulet it stole while escaping was secondary. After an intense battle, Flare and Seraphina (supported by the samurai) defeated the puppet. Which apparently was tampered with in an attempt on the life of the Daimyo.

Goal Achievement (Indicate whether the goal of the roleplay was accomplished. Note that this affects grading, as failed roleplays typically receive lesser rewards.)
The puppet was dismantled and recovered, and the amulet was used as a reward for the aid in dismantling the puppet. Both items were accounted for in the end.

Criminal Acts Perpetrated (List any criminal acts committed during the roleplay, with links to the specific posts where they occurred.)

Lore to Establish (Detail any new lore you'd like to introduce, including brief descriptions for lore moderators, links to the posts where the lore was established, nation of origin associated with the lore.)
- Niji amulets: Magic amulets, with a long history behind them. Water, Earth, Fire, Air. Those are the four elements the amulets can be based on. A lenghty infusion process makes the amulet to have a mild will, which mostly takes effect on how its element will specialize depending on the wielder's identity. Info on them here and here
- Ginji Domain: One of the Domains within the ???(Not sure if I have the standing to name one of those just yet) Shogunate, on the central-south area of Kuridan, bordering with Ryke. Led by Haruka Ginji. One of the Domain's populated areas is known as Hisuzuki, a farming settlement that works like a checkpoint between bigger towns and cities, where merchants and travelers rest before resuming their journeys. The Tea House that sits near the edge of the village is of moderate renown within the domain and even beyond that. Famous for the three sisters that run it. One who receives guests and brings them their tea freshly brewed by herself, another takes care of occasionally entertaing the guests with dance and song, and the last one is the one in charge of finances and other matters that don't involve clients.

Aftermath and Potential Lore Updates (Describe any potential aftermath or consequences based on the events of the roleplay. Suggest any updates that might be needed for the lore.)
The remains of the rogue puppet revealed someone tampered with it. Likely in an attempt to take the Domain for themselves. The daimyo is likely to have the matter investigated sooner rather than later.

Narrator Bonuses (Recommend any bonuses you'd like to award to narrators based on their performance.)
Flare gains the Niji Water Amulet (Steam) E Item. The amulet can be customized by Flare in a later RP, the only requirements being that the abilities it grants have [Steam Affinity] and don't surpass the current grade of the item.

Additional Notes (Include any other observations or points you'd like feedback on or that require further commentary.)
