Hey guys, I'm new and a little lost... I've been looking for a new RP website for a while and now that I've found one I've been trying to figure out how to get around and learn the tweaks in the system.... could take a while on my own so I was hoping for a little help...

Well, my usual first directions are:


Over in the Roleplay Discussion Forum you may want to add yourself to the Players Seeking Games thread, and possibly look at the Roll of Storytellers.


And if you browse Our Roleplays you'll see the all the games currently live, plus a few dead ones. If you click the little coloured prefixes, you can assemble all of those games to check - Recruiting are brand new and looking for players, Joinable might have been going a while, but have space, Waitlist can't add new players right now, but if you talk to the ST they may fit you in future, and Closed is just that.


But, we can often make helpful suggestions and recommendations if you can tell us what kind of games and genres you like, and how much experience you have.


So what's your mania? Fantasy or sci-fi? Comedy or horror? Grit or glamour?

My favorite genres would have to be fantasy and sci-fi- something that doesn't really pertain to real life drama... I'm not very funny so I gave up on the comedy and I tried horror but I'm apparently not very scary either :tongue: I actually found the website because I was looking for a sort of demon role play and this website was the first link

I suspect that'd be To Reign In Hell, which might be a bit full-intensity for inexperienced players - but hell, take a look, someone did drop out recently.

World of Darkness; it's a personal horror setting with a different system to D&D. We ask because if we know what kinds of things you like, we may be able to recommend games.

And of course, there are the Freeform and Custom systems as well. Wolf has a heavy preference for those two, much like for speaking in third person *howl*

Wolf~ I like to talk in third person when I'm role playing xD but I haven't really been on a lot lately to get in to any groups or get a name for myself so suggestions and things from you guys are really helping

Horror's easy, just wear a tight blouse/sweater, make bad decisions about going to the deserted mansion on the hill/hitchhiking through the mountains and scream hysterically.

Derp. I can't believe I missed that above.


There are a bunch of fantasy and sci fi games on the forum, and new ones popping up all the time. They systems vary between free form variants with no rules, and games using pre-existing settings that need a whole host of dice. The GMs here are very accommodating to inexperienced players, and can always direct you to relevant information.

In that case I would suggest looking at some existing games, and reading how everyone interacts. Posts usually, but not always, consist of the character's name, location, what they say or think, and what they're doing. The non-thread RPGs have multiple sub forums, including one for out of character chat where the players can ask questions. Sometimes a game will start with a bunch of single player threads, where each character gets a little introduction by themselves; this usually has just the GM and player. Other times two characters will start in a thread together, or perhaps the whole group.


Have a bit of a read; a lot of the mystery will fall away
