help me find a word

there’s this word y’all that i can’t recall but it was most likely a common noun + its meaning was...a wall ? like a brick/clay/brown wall next to stairs that lead up to apartment floors—that probably isn’t exactly it but it’s the context i read it in ages ago and now i can’t remember what the word was.

i tried searching but all i got were pinterest boards ab staircases as results so could the adv lit rp-ers (or anyone rlly) pls help a fella out ?
