Heirs of England

Johnny R McAvery

Magic still exist for those willing to see.
So you already know the concept.

Let's just jump right in.

The wheels of the train just clanked and began to screech as the it slowed. Inside Fabian's cabin a light swung from the wall. He had accidently tripped and had ripped it from the wall, it was mostly staying on from a single nail, but the flame was out. He continued to sit there as if nothing was wrong. The stop was to let more people on and at this one his partner was supposed to get on. He was 18 years of age and in wizard standards he was more than past coming of age. He sighed as he lifted his book back up and began reading it when a voice spoke from within his bag.

"Let me out you twat. It is so fucking dark in your bag and it smells."

"Shut up Penn. You know you can't let the mortals see you. I'll let you out when we get to the new house." replied Fabian as he saw a lump in his bag move about. Penn was an ass most days of the week.

"The house is alright, but I want to get out now. And would it kill you to remoe your dired meat and bread ffrom here? It isn't even good."

Winifred was waiting at the station. She was not in normal woman's clothing of the time period. She wore comfortable clothing that was more male oriented, but she had made it fit her form. She had sharp features. Her skin flawless and her eyes were a green blue color. She had a perfect smile, she had gotten a few withering glares from woman and interested yet reserved looks from single and married men. She moved her ring from her middle finger to her left ring finger. When the train pulled up she sighed and got up. She made her way on to the train. She walked from car to car. She hated the smell of most. She stopped at Fabian's car and looked about. She had heard him talking to someone, but she hid that she knew.

"I am sorry every where else is full. May I sit here?" She asked. She stood in the car door. She looked around the car. Her eyes caught everything including the weird lump in his bag. She nods and waited for an okay. When he did give the okay she sat in the car away from him on the other bench. She sat at the window and pulled out a book. She looked it over and opened it up. Winifred read it and didn't look up from her book. She never talked to strangers wasn't her thing. She was supposed to meet up with someone on the train. She find him when they got to the station she was ment to be at. Her long raven hair sat over her left shoulder and played with her necklace with her left hand as she read silently.

((Guess you got your answer before I got back to you on PM.))

"Sure thing. I am waiting on someone. Winifred I want to say was the name. Stupid parents. Think I can't handle living alone, asked me to get a guard. Bullshit really. I can handle being on my on. Sorry you probably don't want to hear about my complaints. Names Fabian by the way. Where are heading? London for me. Been on this train for far too long." Said Fabian as he placed the book he was reading on top of Penn.

( I figured from the top dear :) )

Winifred looked up as he said her name."London as well. was supposed to meet up with the one I am guarding. Well I think I found you. Hi Winifred Foster." She said. She held out her hand. Great she was with someone who didn't want her here. She put her book down and put her boots up across from her." Had no Idea who you were. Nice to meet you. Sorry you are stuck with me, but I have already been paid up front by your parents."She said

"It'll be fine. Just don't act like the King's men. I hear they never leave his side. Must get annoying. SO what are you reading?" Asked Fabian as he got his bag and began looking for the jerky. He made sure Penn didn't escape, he'd cue he girl in when he knew it was safe. He could operate in secret pretty easy if he had to.

"I am paid to stay at your side. Sorry no shaking me. I just do what I am paid to do." She said and pulled her hand back with a sigh. She crossed her legs and looked at him." Charles Dickens Oliver Twist."She said. "What are you reading?"She said. She crossed her arms gently and watched him." So why did your parents pay me to watch you?" She asked

"Because they worry. I inherited a house from my great granddad. They don't trust me in London so young. My bother brothers moved out in their early twenties. Said I was to on young. Sucks being the baby of the house. Oh and its an old family text book. For my studies." Said Fabian. He couldn't tell her it was a Latin book of magic. She'd probably get him burned at the stake. Mortals hated magic.

She nods."sure it is."She said. She knew when people were lying. She shrugged, " well thats family watching out for the baby and not caring about the middle child."She said. She scooted down and leaned her head back. She closed her eye's. She was not really sleeping, but she could rest her eye's. Her hearing however was the best, she heard everything. Winifred focused only on the cabin they sat in. She held on to a hidden dagger for protection.

Penn had known Fabian for a long time and judging from the silence had figured the girl had fallen asleep. In his mind Fabian never shut up. So Penn decided to speak now. Surely if the girl was asleep he could. "Now let me our the fucking bag." He began nudging the bag and had managed to break free from the flap. When he did he darted into the air and began flying.

Penn was a spirit that had been bound to a book. Or so to speak. Fabian's great granddad had taken a sky spirit and had captured it. But the spirit needed a body and a voice. So he had fashioned a dragon from the books he owned. And Penn looked to be a dragon, although small, about half the size of cat. But the pattern of books were obvious. His wings were made up of yellowed pages and the print could still be seen. His spine, tail and thrbedges of his wings, that became hooks, were all made from the spine of a book. His head, arms, and legs were all made up off leather. He could have, if he remained quiet and still, could have passed as art.

"Dammit Penn. Get back here. She can't know. We can't risk blowing our secret." Said Fabian in a frenzy. He had rather liked the idea of living.

Winifred heard the commotion and the voice "so who and what is in the bag."She said. "Yeah not asleep, and have the hearing of a dog." She smirked at her small joke. She turned her head and opened her eye's. She faced the wall. Her eye's were a silver color. She watched the windows reflection and turned her head quickly as he stuffed something in the bag. Her eye's were fading back to there normal color. She lifted an eyebrow.

"Fine don't tell me, but I know you have something in there."She said and went back to slumping and closed her eye's again. She sighed and took the hat next to her and put it over her eye's. " and no not asleep. "She muttered. She sighed and went silent again. She let's the train roll on and continue. She hated trains they took forever, but less time then a boat. So she was okay with that.

Fabian all but sat on his bag. "Nothing you would believe and nothing that is alive." Then in a softer voice he added "for long". He then looked out the window and watched as towns and trees passed. Trying to act as though ball were normal. "So you ever go to watch a play?"

Winifred sighed and removed her hat. She opened her eye's. They were full silver and fading quickly." Watch a play no. Don't have much time being a soilder and protecting many people. It's my job. I am the best at what I do that's why your parents hired me."She says. She sighed and sat up her back was straight up."this is the most down time I have had since I was a child. "She said. She watched him closely.

"By gods. You have never seen the theater? That is a crime. Well we shall visit one. There is one I have heard of in London. We shall see a play there. Hopefully it'll be an original work. " said fabian. He was a huge fan of theater and he had always wanted to act. Perhaps he would get the chance to open his own theater or at least get a troupe. But he'd have to wait. He'd have to be of retiring age and that would be centuries down the road. He sighed and banged his head softly against the glass. "So any past times aside from reading?"

She sighed. "When and where would I have the time to see the theater. If you want. I follow where ever you go."She said she watched him bang his head on the glass."um I rather you not do that."She said. "Hmm past times training, fighting drinking, walking in the woods, and Hunting."She said "and you? "

"Well quiet a few actually. But the big ones would be cooking, working with plays, sometimes i just read them or I try to act out scenes, uh eating weird stuff.... Damn I am boring." Said Fabian as he gave a shrug and sat back up.

A few hours later the train pulled into London and they got out. Fabian had to get help with all of his luggage, which was a lot. Only one of the cases had clothes in it. The other 6 were wither full of potion stuff or books and none of them were small. So it took about another hour till they, and one of the train people, helped load everything onto a two horse drawn carriage.

She sighed and leaned back again. She fell lightly asleep on the bench. She however still would ju.p up and protect him.She woke as the train pulled into London. She sighed and sat up looking around London was the one place she hadn't been out of all her travels.

When they got . She helped with his luggage. She had 3 trunks one full of weapons, the other two were clothes. She tied it down and thanked the men. They nod to her and bow. Some knew who she was others learned. Winifred finally sighed and tapped the side of the carriage and whistles as she got in next to Fabian."well Living in London here we come "she said and pulled out her book.

"Yeah. It'll be nice to have a new start. To make our own destinies." Said Fabian as he felt the carriage bounce up and down. Carriages were always uncomfortable but he quickly got used to it. "So. If you don't mind me saying this. I am rather surprised you are female. I didn't think mortals allowed women into solider work."

Winifred sighed and looked at him."very flattering."She said with a grimace."yeah I am the only woman soilder that is actually known. I worked hard for my name and position and Mortals? Consider yourself not one. Want to explain that."She said. Winifred didn't miss much of anything. She crossed her arms and sighed. "So what are you hiding and from me your guard. If I am protecting you I need a good reason and I know you have one."She says. She sat with her back straight.

"Damn." Said Fabian as he let out a sigh. He wasn't about to let Penn out of his bag so he'd show her another way. In a low voice he said: "Flamma in manu mea." And a small flame appeared in his hand. It didn't burn him because he was the caster of the spell, but it would easily burn everything else. With a sharp flick of his wrist the flame went out. "Magic exist for those willing to see it. I am a wizard."

(And to you as well)

( gonna eat your butt off ?)

Winifred jumped at the flame. She didn't like fire that much. More do to the fact, if she was caught for who she actually was they burn her and she rather not be caught for being a monster as the world would see her.

She looked at him and nods when the flame was out."well there is a reason for protection alright glad to know what I am really protecting. Just no more random flames please." She said. She had moved a bit away from him.

Death to all betrayers

((I thought that was why Thanksgiving was a holiday. What else would I do?)

"I can do that." Said Fabian as the smell of flame went away. "I'll show you the other thing once we are at the house. Safer that way." He was quiet for a few seconds before something else came to him. "Wait you aren't afraid? I know most of your lot would have use burned at a stake." He was alarmed that she hadn't acted more frightened or anything else for that matter. He had grown up on tales of the magical beings being caught for sport, or killed because of what they were. It was something he had always been afraid of .

( lol yes thats exactly why it was invented. Lol )

Winifred smiles." I am soilder not much scares the hell out me anymore."She said. It wasn't exactly a lie. She didn't get scared easily, but she also had something to hide from the world."I am not most of my kind am I?"She asked with a small smile."trust me I had a feeling there was more to you, I am very sharp with noticing things about people. Your smell was also not mortal."She said. She bit her bottom lip. She had just slipped. Crap she wished she could take it back.

"Smell?" Fabian laughed. "It is just some cologne and potion stains. Yeah I know they don't smell like what most of these idiots smells like. But hey, at least I smell unique."

The carriage gave a hard jolt before stopping and the driver got out and open their door. "We have arrived sir. I shall help you inside with your bags?"

"Just to the door will be fine. Then you can go home to your family." Said Fabian as he fished out two gold coins from within his bag and handed it to the man. He had always paid well. He looked up to the house and it was huge. It was almost a small mansion. Fabian grew excited as looked at it. He hadn't imagined it being this big and now he was imagining all the secrets that were inside of it.

She sighed he caught that."yeah the cologne."She said. She looked out the carriage window. She was glad that one slipped by nicely.

The carriage stopped and slammed. "Jesus. " She muttered. She sighed and got o utm she grabbed 3 trunks and easily moved them inside. Winifred got all 9 trunks inside. Hers were marked and only her weapons one was locked. She looked around at the mansion "well this isn't a bad place."She said. Where would you like your trunks?"She asked. She wasn't a servant, but he had none as of at the moment, so she move it. Winifred leaned on her trunks and just looked around the vast area.
