Advice/Help Having problems starting a search thread

Roleplay Availability
Roleplay Type(s)
My Interest Check
Maybe it's just a long last week, but I've been struggling with writing a fun, and juicy search thread for a while now. Heck, I even went far with bb-code, to create a fun-looking table with bells and whistles for it. Thing is, I know exactly who I want to play as, and accept so-o-o many genres and types of characters; have a few scenarios to offer, and even a world built if the other person feels lazy to do a bit of worldbuilding; but still, somehow I cannot just write anything beyond two lines of ad. Posts? Yeah, they go out amazing these days, but as soon as I sit for the ad, I just... forget all the words.

Any suggestions, perhaps? Things to get inspired by?

edit: it's not like I don't know what to put in it, I just... can't for some reason. Can't make it interesting, fun, appealing.

It sounds like you're trying too hard to appeal to someone else, don't. You won't channel your passions that way. Instead put your heart on the table - tell us what you love, what kinds of roleplays excite you, and what you hope to accomplish. Your sincerity will both lure better fitting partners and provide you with quality content for your LFP thread.

Well I think the important thing for a search thread is make it readable and be clear on what you want.

Fun and interesting is more of an issue with groups where you're trying to lure a group of folks to your idea.

So with your search I would say make it organized. Make it readable. And make it clear exactly what your looking for.

The bells and whistles can come later.

Edit : As I posted before your 1x1 search should have the following information

- What your looking for in terms of post schedule ( how often you post / how often you want your partner to post )
- What your looking for in terms of post size ( long posts, short posts, whatever they want to write? )
- What your limits are ( what do you not want to see in a roleplay )
- What your craving are ( update as necessary )
- *Optional* plot ideas you have
- In your case a bit about the character you want to play and what stories your interested in telling with them

Don't worry about making this super pretty or exciting. An ad is just to give people an overview and see if your general interests line up. If they do the person will contact you whether you make your post bright and shiny with all the bells and whistles or whether you just have simple bullet points.

You know, I often cannot read the search thread till the end myself, because it's boring. I don't want to be that person. So I want to make it... "fun", for the lack of better word. Short, juicy, etc., however, whenever I just sit down to write... it doesn't look too interesting.
I'm just a bad at advertising >_>
But the list helps!

My point was most people aren’t looking for search threads that pop out. That might be your preference but most folk are just looking for someone they think they can get along with.

It’s why u see so many search threads broken down into simple lists.

It’s about getting information out in an easy to read format.

You can wow them with your personality after they actually pm you.

Now if you want to make it pop you can but it’s not really necessary. It’s like putting in BBC code, if you want to add it for the aesthetic that’s fine. But the majority of people aren’t going to click away if you don’t have it. And the ones who do are likely shallow and more focused on the look of a role play than the content anyway

I’d say your better just letting people know what your looking for.

If you want to make something pop focus on the title. You can make that fun and eye catching as that’s what gets people to click on your search

Ahh! Even worse! *panics*

lol i usually go with something fun but also informative.

ex. Geek Craves : Whatever I'm Craving At The Mo.
so right now it's Geek Craves Charmed Inspired RP

before that it was something like

Simply Searching For : Whatever I'm Searching For At The Mo.
so something like Simply Searching For Pokemon Inspired RP

( lol a lot of fandom inspirations in mine but obviously you can put whatever you're actually searching for )

Just a heads up! Tried looking at it on mobile and the second half of the post gets cut off. There goes a lot of potentially interested players right off the bat. Might want to change that.

When I'm back on the desktop, I'll have a proper look. For now, I should add that bumping your post at the right time (morning or late afternoon PST work best, I've found, and weekends are better than weekdays) certainly plays a significant factor as well.

Lastly, you might want to shorten your title. Make it catchier, maybe? You could also try to include one or two keywords that reflect what you're currently craving the most.

Weird. It's not how it looks like on my phone. I guess, it depends on what OS you have installed. Mine's Android 7, and it looks normal (I've no idea how to make screenshots to show though).

Spoopy! I'm on Android 7 as well, and the post gets cut off on both the Samsung Internet app and the Google Chrome app. I'll check it out on an iOS when I get the chance.
