Have you ever got into a fandom but never watched the show or played the game etc

Like the story is interesting the characters are cool and you actually like a couple but didnt bother playing the game or watching the cartoon etc

Cause this is me

Im Neurodivergent and can't be bothered sometimes sitting through an entire series or movie or buy a video game [Im broke] but im interested in everything about the fandom etc

Example: Undertale [I have never played the game besides a demo im not big on RPGs and the game looks to hard for me but i know alot about it and like the AUs

Another kinda example: League of Legends i have no interest and have never been interested in games like it im not much into Arcane either but i do like some of the characters and i like Jinx whether in arcane or in the game idk why people call her a Harley Quinn reject or something i feel like people say that about any girl character whos mentally ill or insane

I usually use character AI though for fandoms that seem cool but im not fully invested in despite me making ocs for that fandom

I've done this exactly once (at least as far as I can recall), with Fire Emblem. I know little about that series of games, but at one point I joined a Fire Emblem roleplay, and I still have the character I made back then stored in my saved characters thread (though with an updated character sheet). I think that RP died super early though.

Most likely the reason I joined it was some combination of experimentation, free time and probably some friend asking me to. I think this was back when RPs could all effectively access hosted project privileges and there was a lot of extra coding options, before the site moved to a different host and a lot of those features were unfortunately lost.

Now this being said, this truly was an exception among exceptions as far as I'm concerned. I see little reason to play in a fandom you're not at least somewhat familiar with as opposed to making something similar but in original content.

I had absolutely 0 interest in One Piece until someone recruited me into a OP RP. Sadly the RP lasted like exactly one round of posts lmao, but still I spent the better part of a month reading the manga and wiki and getting deep into the setting, lore, and themes of One Piece. Needless to say, I fell in love with the series, and deeply regretted not watching or reading it for 20 years.

Back in high school the show Miraculous Ladybug had just come out. My best friend at the time who I had been roleplaying with for years already was immediately a fan, so we ended up doing a plot with that concept but with OCs. I never got around to watching it myself lmao but she explained the premise and all the lore well enough for it to work! That roleplay actually ended up having some of my favorite OCs and plots from that time with her lol but yeah I know like almost nothing about the actual show

I honestly can't do that I'm sorry. I need to know the fandom/media whatever it is. I would feel weird agreeing to an RP about something I have no idea about. Even with researching about it, I would feel like I might be missing something and frustrate my RP partner

I did for lord of the rings once. It was very fun and started a life long fascination with the lore and theories people come up with. However I had watched the movies..but as good as they are. They are just the tip of the iceberg even for the canon stuff tolkien wrote in the similarion and the lord of the rings book(s).

Maybe? I haven't played Cyberpunk 2077 but I've read the Cyberpunk RED books, and my spouse plays the game so I'm familiar. 3D games aren't very accessible to me these days because I get nauseous too easily, and also I get frustrated that a video game will never live up to the sort of storytelling I want out of it. (RP does that better.) But with a TV show or book I'd probably feel the need to watch/read the source material.

oh yeah. a while back last year or so i ended up doing this with the star wars fandom cuz i was bored. i cringe so much looking back at what i've done because i didn't know anything back then and i cringe just looking at how much stuff i got wrong.

Yeah, Kingdom Hearts. I got roped into playing the character Axel for someone who was already playing him but had to go out of town for a while. The experience was not good. It only served to repel any desire I may have had to play the games.

Otherwise to answer the question: no, I stick to my lane. Which is to say: I don't actually do all that much fandom RP

Sometimes I muse Sal Fisher from SallyFace even though I've never played the game myself. For my part, I've only ever watched streams of it and read through the game's Wikia. I've never had anyone out call me out for my depiction, however, so I assume that I'm doing just fine.

that's how i got into the last of us , actually !

i'd never so much as watched a playthrough of it, much less played it myself ( and this was prior to the show coming out , so a few years ago ) but one of my roleplay partners was desperately wanting to write in that verse. it sounded rather neat when they explained it to me , so i spent hours reading the wikia page to at least semi-understand what was going on back then. clickers ??? i was fascinated , let me tell you.

thankfully it was pretty easy , considering we were writing original characters far removed from the actual canon storyline. i probably would've declined otherwise. but the whole experience did get me into apocalypse themes in writing so i'd say it worked out. plus it got me into playing horror games when i decided to try it out for myself not too long after.

( and now the last of us is like one of my favourite games i've ever played )
