How long has it been since electronics have been banned? Did it happen during our character's lifetimes (or at least some of them), or was it a past event and we all just grew up with electronics banned from the get-go?

rough plot is like the government is hiding a chip of information that's super important and we have to get it bc otherwise something bad will happen. but theirs no like timeline and for the most part we'll just make it up as we go
