Gotham Ascending

Hmm... I'm going to say no due to the vector factor. A power that is capable of making people kill themselves or others with nearly no resistance is something that might not translate well to a roleplay, especially one like this. I don't want this to be too much of a hack/slash/burn roleplay despite the fact that one of my characters is gunning down the Iceberg Lounge currently.I like the twisted morality, but the power seems out of place where currently we only have one character with unusual powers (minus Bane's Venom and Ra's Lazarus Pit which don't allow them to manipulate people the way that this vector power does). Change the power and subsequently the post and we'll see if you have a place here. :)

I think a good way of looking at it is to remember Batman SHOULD be able to fight all of his villains in some way. Even the ones that can handle him physically (Bane, Ra's, Croc, Mr. Freeze) are not 'overpowered'.

Villain name: Mr. Winston

Alias (the name given before they assumed their villain identity): The Dandyman

Background: The Dandyman showed up in Gotham roughly two weeks after Batman's last sighting. His first introduction to Gotham's public was when he took control of a Gotham subway aided by defectors from Joker's gang. He paid off the thugs then took every passenger hostage while police tracked the runaway subway and set up checkpoints at every station on its path. Despite the Batman's absence, the situation was resolved without any casualties, since surprisingly the Dandyman didn't do anything after taking the hostages. He just waited with the hostages and goons for about seven hours, the subway making two full loops around Gotham's underground. Witnesses claimed he just sat down and waited for the entire time before up and abandoning the entire subway via leaping out the back car's window. The startled goons panicked with the sudden lack of a leader and a recue operation led by Commissioner Gordon soon took place which led to the hostages being freed and the goons being arrested. Afterwards, Dandyman's been showing up all over Gotham in the most apparently spontaneous places. He'd set up some sort of heinous activity and hire a couple thugs but then abandon the thugs to do as they please after a certain time had been reached. Almost like setting up stages, the goons that Dandyman abandons in and of themselves are still a significant threat because they have the means to act out the crimes that Dandyman had been setting them up with. He himself, however, makes himself quite scarce after certain periods of time.

Personality: Dandyman seems to give off this rich egocentric vibe. No matter what situation he's in, he's either too confident or ignorant to take it fully seriously. He is known to make idle chit chat at almost all times about seemingly mundane things and has this air of confidence so thick it seems like he could care less if his schemes actually work or not. To some, he reminds them of a cheap businessman with a slick outward appearance. He makes references to his boss but never goes into detail. Despite the many crimes he seems to be attempting, Dandyman repeatedly comments about how they're just "A means to an end."

Abilities: Though doubtlessly apathetic to a majority of things, The Dandyman does have impressive strength due mostly to the cybernetics in his arms. Even without this he's known to wield a fancy walking cane at times and is quite adept at its use. He's quite an acrobatic sort whose apparently a flexible contortionist. In fact, if it weren't for the smarmy rich dude attitude most people might assume he was a performer of some sort.

Writing sample:

"Ugh... Sir?"

Dandyman looked up as he snapped out of his daydream, the Thug who had woken him up was standing to the side of the decaying table he was seated at.

"Ah, Geoff my boy." Dandyman said with a tired sigh before stretching out his metallic arms "What can I do ya for?"

"Well, I mean we've been standing here with the hostages for some time now and me and the guys were wondering... Are we gonna send a request for ransom-"

"Geoffy boy come on," Dandyman said as he stood and wrapped an arm around the thugs back "What Kind of Ransom could possibly equal this?"

Dandyman led Geoff through the broken down restaurant that they were currently held up in. As he spoke he walked over to a broken stage where a bunch of hostages were tied to a lowered section of scaffolding. The thugs that had previously been guarding them with earnest were now lazing about bored out of their minds.

Dandyman released Geoff and grabbed one of the Hostages by the jaw and looked her over "See? This is beauty you can't even get with money... All natural I can tell. Most Doctors leave some sort of calling card on the flesh even the barely noticeable ones."

Geoff blinked a couple times before beginning to speak.

"And another thing," Dandyman interupped before releasing the Hostage, who went back to sobbing miserably over her situation "I know for a fact that those schmucks out there ain't got what I'm here for."

Geoff waited a bit as Dandyman searched his trousers for a lighter, as he did so he glanced over to specific thug who'd been nearly salivating on the hostages for over an hour now.

"Hey Richie." Dandyman said, the thug shook out of his stupor and glanced at his employer "How long were you in Arkham before getting here?"

Richie just scratched his head violently and muttered "Couple years"

Dandyman nodded with an intrigued expression before finding his lighter and quickly lighting a cigarette "Tell you what," he said before taking a puff "you wait another ten minutes and then you and the boys can do whatever you want with them."

Richie looked back with wide eyes before chuckling and returning to his drooling. Geoff, however, wasn't so quick to overlook the meaning behind Dandy's words. "Wait so what about the ransom?"

"I never said we'd be getting a ransom." Dandyman pointed out with another drag of the cigarette "Gonna have to pay attention next time Kiddo. The world eats people when they don't pay attention."

"So you mean to tell me we've been standing around here waiting all for nothing." Geoff said in disbelief

"Well, if you're following Richie's example you're getting about thirty minutes of 'fun' and a bunch of guns and money. Standing around doing nothing seems like a pretty nice trade in return kiddo."

Geoff frowned "You know I thought they were lying when I heard about the subway..." he said "Now, I'm a bit more open to the idea."

Dandyman clapped, "There you go kiddo! Make this a learning experience."

Geoff sighed before hefting his gun "Unbelievable."

Dandyman grabbed his walking cane from a table and pointed it at the Hostages, "Well, it's been fun my friends, But I have a schedule to adhere to."

With that he began walking for the back exit, he tapped Richie on the back of the head with his cane before he left "Ten minutes is up by the way, just wanted to let you know sonny."

Exiting through a back door and pulled out a phone as the screams began echoing from the restaurant. He began walking away as he made a call.

"Hey, Boss? No he didn't show up today either. I know... such a bummer. I know I know, I'll be off to find some new hired help tomorrow.... Hell no, even I need beauty sleep despite the obvious. I said even I need beauty- Hold on a minute Boss they're really doing a number on those hostages I'll call you back when I get somewhere quieter."

Ok I edited him and eliminated his vector ability, adding another type instead. What do you think now?
