I've known a few DMs and PCs who are like that!

I remember a very old Paranoia scenario where the PCs are sent to help with a set of experimental prototype devices. The first is a pair of jet-powered boots which help you walk on water. The problem is they aren’t gyro-stabilised and since the PC also isn’t gyro-stabilised, they are flipped over and dragged through the Olympic size pool at Mach 2. Death would be inevitable. Another item was a helmet that instantly taught you every martial art technique perfectly. The downside was that while you knew the techniques perfectly, the PC only had average levels of stamina, strength and dexterity. When they were pitted against elite commando hand-to-hand instructors they were almost instantly murdered.
