D. Rex
Magic Eight Ball
I read that somewhere to. And tried to do some calculating of my own. What I came up with was... plausible at absolute best. Then again I am no expert, and I probably was not following the same factors as what the theory did. As I tried to abandon all standards for the direct sake of survival as a species. And am also probably wrong in my calculations xDSyrenrei said:Well, I was telling my husband about this RP this other day and he's read studies that for a species to be brought back from the edge of extinction, he thinks he read scientifically you'd need a population of about 500. So they are probably FUBARed no matter what they do. I'm hoping the whole RP isn't totally gut-wrenching though because to be perfectly honest I am trying something outside my comfort zone!
Be that as it may, we can always allow ourselves some suspension of disbelief should we need to.
As for gut-wrenching, I really don't think it will be. It never really was the focus of the rp to aim for that sort of drama. Though mild drama will obviously ensue, we aren't trying to break our characters. Hope and optimism will be something we want to build up. As well as building on each other. This isn't supposed to take dark and traumatic turns.
[QUOTE="Prizzy Kriyze]A. Yeah now I hope we're all freaking mutants.
B. It's interesting, yeah. How are 10ish emotionally traumatized youngish adults supposed to rebuild humanity? A lot of us have little to no education, Matteo had it thrust upon him during his years 7-11 so he academically has the knowledge of an 11 year old plus some random later studied tidbits. The entire atmosphere of the RP was to be more easy though, so ignoring inbreeding and so, I wouldn't think it's still possible within this world. I mean, we have a higher power controling dragons on our side. I think we can assume it'll do some bullshit magic and diversify our genes or some such.
Then, we have the problem of mental instability or skewed morals. Chamo's character killed a fellow survival over food. The 32 year old Ophelia is still caught up on the death of her father. Well, maybe with the influence of undisturbed individuals (our dragons) that'll come to solve itself.
I could go on and also add a "C." but my phone is dying so nvm

A. Being immune we technically are.
B. Bailey isn't emotionally traumatized. And as far as education is concerned, well we hardly need to know quite a few things anymore. Anyhow, Bailey is fairly learned, and literate. Admittedly though, the collective knowledge of our group will be what is passed on. Even though we are going back to the Stone age, more or less, it would be safe to say we have a much better head start and are more knowledgeable than early humans, not to mention all our characters are familiar with surviving and fending for themselves. Nobody is really helpless. Progress will simply have to be made again by the future, which will be fine since a lot of info may be rendered moot on a new planet. As for inbreeding, iirc, as per my old calculations we could probably get 3 or 4 generations down before crossing families. At which point the number and variance of genes might render the risk negligible. Ideal? Perhaps not. But not hopeless.
As for skewed morals? Meh. Morals can be relearned. I don't think them skewed as morals only have so much importance in absolute survival. Don't get me wrong, Bailey too would kill in a heartbeat just for Simple self preservation. Though i wouldnt consider her traumatized or insane over it. Just intent on staying alive. She knows right from wrong, but also has her own prioroties. Though now that they are In a social environment again, the chance will be here for them to learn how to if morals are their problem, and to even go as far to discuss what they think should be right and wrong.
