Other GM discussion: do you make races for your players or do you let the players create their own races?

Umbrie Aniri is a Psionic Fey Assassin who is perpetually stuck in the body of a teenage girl of 155 centimeters or 5 feet and 1 inch. she trained her small body to 61 kilograms or 135 pounds which is top 5th percentile for a physically active girl of her height. but her psionics are pretty much limited to augmenting or countering stealth, and while she can easily take down another rogue or a mage, she has difficulty taking down a trained warrior of adult humanoid size due to the sheer size and weight most warriors have over her, and has to deal with finding workarounds on most weapon or equipment purchases because people mistake her for a teenager and assume she is still in high school. while being sweet, friendly, trusting and devoted to family, her friendly and trusting nature has been exploited by others multiple times and she bears a lot of her mother's weaknesses to silver and salt plus a problem where she gets dizzy and lightheaded in bright light.

another character whose strengths i thought were balanced by her weakness. well, as a post side thing, she learns new skills or talents as easily as a toddler learning thier first language. which is to say she is a fast learner, both when it comes to physical and mental skills. but that comes as a side benefit of her unique psionic gift and is mostly used t quickly learn new cover jobs or learn new languages.
