Getting Back Into RPing

Ulfhedinn

... or just Jim
Hey everyone :) My name and avatar refer to the Norse "Ulfhednar" warriors, Ulfhedinn being the singular form. They are similar to the famous "Berserkers" in that they were believed to shape-shift during battle, or at least to fight extremely ferociously. Where Berserkers were reflections of bears, Ulfhednar were reflections of wolves. I chose the name because I'm most passionate about history, linguistics, and mythology. So for short, you can call me Ulf, my real name, Jim, or whatever else you can come up with. Besides history, linguistics, and mythology, I'm a huge fan of the fantasy genre... J.R.R. Tolkien's my God. That includes novels, film, art, and video games.

I used to RP on fantasy forums pretty heavily during High School and dabbled in RPing with MMORPGs, but sadly, once the realities of being an adult hit me I mostly stopped dynamic, creative writing of this sort. Or at least that's the excuse I tell myself! Either way, it's never too late to get back into it, especially because writing is something I love doing. I tried doing a little RPing recently on a somewhat inactive site, lost interest quickly, and here I am now. This site looks like it's impossible to lose interest in though due to its sheer number of members and amount of content. Looking forward to reading your guys' work and hopefully being able to contribute soon!

Hi there! Welcome to RPNation. :) Very cool that you love history! I'm also really into mythology and fantasy.

I am sure that you can find people to RP with you in the Interest Check section. Feel free to share your plots/ideas there!

Have fun! ^^

Thanks! :) Any particular mythologies/fantasies that're your favorites?

Hoping to start up something as soon as I can get the down time to write it out in detail.

Good to hear and thank you!

@Ulfhedinn

Well, I'm really into the Greek/Roman mythology and the Egypt one. ^^ Norse mythology is something I want to explore next. I already know a little about that thanks to the Marvel movies.

About fantasy: I really like Lord of the Rings (obvious choice, haha) and Game of Thrones. ^^

That's great! By any chance play the RTS Age of Mythology? It was a favorite of mine growing up. Really helped in forming me into the history/mythology nerd I am today.

I can steer you in the right direction for Norse mythology: Norse Mythology for Smart People - The Ultimate Online Resource for Norse Mythology and Religion

As straight forward as a site name can be, it's perfect for newcomers and scholars alike. The writer of the articles, Dan McCoy, is great at what he does and more often than not sheds light on the more realistic side of mythology. And don't take this the wrong way, but it'd be best to forget everything you know from Marvel! It's only very loosely based in Norse mythology and a lot of liberties were taken for different purposes.

McCoy's got a great Egyptian mythology site too: Egyptian Mythology for Smart People - The Ultimate Online Resource for Egyptian Mythology and Religion

Good fantasy choices. Can't go wrong with them :)
