[Gateway to Danger] Starcity, Annapabar

The cover ident for her shows several years in the Navy as a pilot, then moving on to become part of a merchanter's crew. Working up the ranks from pilot to captain, and now leveraging her wealth into owning her own ship. The cover ident shows all your current certifications (OOC: which ship skills you have ranks in). The background shows she's a no-questions asked merchant as long as all the paperwork is in order.

Anthony, Tony only to those about to sport a black eye, also took a gander at the provided ident. Perhaps the boys in personnel were better than the one in safety.

Vera's ident shows a background of clashes with various legal institutions, including the Imperial Navy where she was given a bad-conduct discharge. Several different ships are listed that she served on as gunner/security and a quick library search shows each of them was detained on suspicion of or confiscated on grounds of piracy. Her background shows she just left a ship that is a suspected smuggler and is looking for a berth again.

Anthony's ident shows 12 stellar years in the Subsector Navy's Engineering Corps, serving on 8 different ships's Engineer team and regualary promoted. A promising career wrecked by being friends with two crewmen arrested for mutiny. Though no evidence was found to suggest he was involved, he was discharged with cause and has spent the last 4 years wandering the spacelanes trying to find work. The backgrounds hints at a straight-arrow embittered by the last few years rough treatment.

"So, anyone else suspect whoever fabbed these was getting off on how to maximize the piss me off with the fewest changes ratio?"

"My Dear, Dear old Freind Tony- You're not the one they made a suspected pirate.... Smuggler... and- oh! Look! Anarchist!" She laughs. "They covered their bases- don't want us being viewed in the right light, to be taken as Imperial Forces."

"Yeah, I think I am the cleanest record here. Aside from Killian. I am only suspected of smuggling and received an honorable discharge."

Over the next 48 hours the last modifications are finished up. The crew working on the ship close up the last of the access hatches, gather their tools and leave. The ship's been cleaned enough to keep any debris from flying around if the gravity goes off, but it's not really....clean. Antony's found that while everything runs, there are several systems brought together that were never meant to be compatible. He's confident he can repair any of the systems. Eventually.

Orders come from Flightcon to move the ship to docking berth 87-e345-4. Once on approach you all can see this is an area of the station for the ships on the margins. The berth is along a spine protruding from the station. A docking tube extrudes from the station to mate with your airlock. That allows crew access. Cargo loading is handled in the bay at the end of the spire, with ships taking turns loading once they're ready for departure. The whole area shows signs of hard use and barely enough maintenance. Docking shows the ship is very responsive to the controls. Not nearly up to military standards but not a tub, either. She handles smoothly, with a hint that power may have been upgraded.

You have barely enough time to dock and get ready to go out when the station signals your cargo is ready for loading.

"Well, I guess we had bettered start learning how to be merchant spacers and get this cargo loaded. By the way, who is supposed to be chartering cargoes for us? Is it you, Killian?"

The nobleman scratches his chin. "I can't recall that being among the things decided in advance - so it's up to us. I'm confident in my ability to get us decent deals, of course, but if you want to give it a shot I certainly won't stop you."

"I may be good with some things, but deal making isn't one of them. Give me a ship to command and a crew capable enough to fight it, and I am your woman."

Vera cackles. "Sir, Noble Sir- I suggest you retain exactly that post, Sir. I'll be the muscley shadey violenty person in the corner- tell me when to loom for effect, ehh?"

"Then I think we are all agreed, Sir Killian is going to be responsible for setting up charters."

"In the mean time, I suppose I need to get out there and oversee this load being brought in, and Vera, I am sure we can use you as more than the menace in the corner. With those muscles, loading pallets shouldn't be a problem for you, right? Also, if we are going to do this, we might as well look the parts. I am going to go change into something a disreputable captain might be caught dead in before I present myself to the yard dogs. I suggest you all do the same."

And with that Lisa heads out of the main cabin and towards her quarters, picking up the manifest log tablet as she goes.

Even as Vera leans back, boots up on a perfectly clean surface that will not remain that way long, reading through her new Identity, smoking a Cigar, chuckling.

The cargo loading goes smoothly. Four men working with grav-jacks bring in pallet after pallet of goods. The manifest lists a mix of speculative goods and commodities. The former might make or lose money, the latter are a guaranteed income but a much smaller profit margin. The pallets are loaded and tied down, the chief loader working with the captain to make sure the load is balanced.

A few hours later you are given clearance to depart. Your departure vector to orbit is set, and from there you can choose your jump point. Annapabar is busy enough that FlightCon requests you announce your departure vector before leaving orbit.

After ensuring that the loading goes smoothly, Lisa, who now resembles a derelict freighter's captain more than a warship captain, settles into the flight controls and brings up her Astrogation systems. For her, it feels good to be back in the pilot's seat. With a wry smile she flips on the ship's intercom, "Ok, ladies and gents, I guess this is your captain speaking, please make sure all your gear is stowed, and the tray tables are in their upright and locked positions. This is going to be a bumpy ride." Lisa honestly has no idea what the origins of some of those jokes are, but is only passingly curious about it. While she waits on the others to find their seats and strap in, she begins the pre-jump checklist and the plotting of their course.

The nobleman doesn't waste time when it comes to preparations - primarily because there isn't much to prepare. His gear is minimal for this, unlike what you might expect from someone of his station and taste. The most time-consuming task was reviewing his knowledge of comm systems. With a check-list, and all. It's been a while since he had to actually do something on a ship. He might be a wastrel, but he's a rich one.

Well, it can't be too hard. He can do protocol, no problem. As long he doesn't need to fix the console, everything should go smoothly.

"All set here, Captain. Ready for departure." He reports, sounding almost giddy about the 'adventure' beginning. Some things never change.

Tony was just finishing putting engine panels back in place. It was always best to familiarize yourself with the actual systems of a ship, especially if you were the one supposed to keep it flying.

"Ready as I can be without a full rundown and a glass of something hard to take the edge of jumping in a strange ship's belly."
