Benji Paka (Normal)
  • Sector 11 Streets
Location: From Sector 11 to Sector 10 Hanyoung High School
Goal(s): Save lives and help remaining students; fight monsters
    Sub-Goal: Get past police perimeter
Mentions: Heyitsjiwon Heyitsjiwon , The Black Knight The Black Knight , eloise eloise

The music kept playing in his ears. Every so often, Benji spared a glance at the kid he just saved. It appeared his fellow student's nerves had settled down. The walk had done some good and focused that adrenaline and energy into somewhere, somewhere less destructive than tears and fear and anger.

Sadly, while one person's fear and anger went away, several more such instances tend to crop up in its place.

And Benji's day was far from over.

Reaching for his walkman to adjust the music, his hand brushed against the pocket that held his phone. A small reminder jolted a few neurons in his brain. Did he complete the online homework for this morning's class? He did. Right?

He could not remember. He only remembered passing out last night. That was not good at all.

Time for him to check. Scrolling, typing, signing in, and-.

A notification. Not related to his school work, but instead a news notification. Normally, he would ignore it.

Except one thing caught his eye.

    Monster.

No, that was not it. It was more along the lines of three words.

    School. Death. Monster.

That's all it took. Those words and he was off, leaping and throwing his body and feet over the bike. He left his fellow student in the dust. Did that make him a bad person? No, just someone who was in a hurry.

Pumping the pedals with speed that burned his lungs and legs, Benji jerked the handles left and right, gliding and sliding past people where ever they tended to crop up in his way. Shortcuts and alleyways paved the way for a quicker trip. E-ranks were stronger than humans were before the portal appeared. Faster, stronger, more enduring.

Still, Benji was a beginning E-rank. One that had yet still to fully develop his skills, abilities, and powers.

But he could consider this little bike ride a warm up for the main event.

    Come on!

Sweat began to bead down his forehead as he reached the school in the news notification. And thank goodness for GPS or else he would have a rather difficult time picking this place out from all the other nearby buildings.

People were being evacuated or already were. The police were begging set up or had already set up a perimeter. Dead bodies lying on the pavement were covered up or beginning to be covered up. A news reporter and what seemed an well-dressed man were standing next to each other outside. Whether he was the first to arrive or the last, Benji had one goal in mind.

He stomached the nausea he was feeling. All the stress, all the death, everything. Just focus on the anger. On winning.

Get past all of them and get inside.

    Time to fight.

A single leap from his bike would send him over any small barricades the police had set up. Whether someone would stop him or not would be the real question. Maybe not after this.

His armor materialized by his side along with his weapon. Novice archer gear and a powerful C-rank crossbow. The armor may not have been up to snuff, but the crossbow should have been. Besides, it had a nice trick to it that he liked a lot, which meant he would not have to even get close to kill whatever was inside. He could start from the entrance and work his way inside.

If no one impeded his progress or stopped him, Benji would enter through the front doors, and, like a cop of sorts, would check each room and all his corners and blindspots, working slowly, silently, and trying to remain hidden with his crossbow loaded and at the ready. His ears would listen for any sound of people crying for help as well as monster noises.

And head in those general directions.

Dae-Jin's response to the news of a C-Rank gate was to immediately contact a cab to take him there. Most E-Ranks would likely just gawk at such a tragedy in the making. However Dae-Jin Kim was no regular E-Rank, he was a pragmatist. Certainly while the majority of the monsters were busy fighting Hunters appropriately ranked. There'd be a small number left just for him to take out. This line of thought may require a Hunter or two to be seriously injured or die to deal with these monsters. Though that was just what needed to be done to close the gate. The right thing was never the easy thing. Upon arrival, he found police and association presence set up in front of Hanyang High School. No way they'd let someone like him just waltz on through the front. So Dae-Jin tried a different tactic. One of his neighbors had been a KGB agent in his youth. In exchange for a few dozen bottles of something resembling vodka. He had taught Dae-Jin a couple of infiltration tricks. Going to the back of the school were the guard presence was thinner. Dae-Jin pulled up his hood and hugged the wall. Waiting until that sweet spot where nobody was looking where they should. He kicked off of the stone wall and somersaulted over the top. Unfortunately he landed on his back, which kind of hurt. Yet he had still managed to infiltrate the school.

Was this guy taunting Dae-Jung? The continuous grins, the glancing it didn't appear like the thief was merely trying to flee but rather to keep Dae-Jung's attention. In any case, it was working and Dae-Jung followed the thief doing his best to mimic it's actions. You can get good items from doing quests or from what he had heard skills or even titles, and in a portal everything helps. Dae-Jung didn't care about the risk much like a portal opening quests are another way to get stronger and sometimes mean the difference between life and death in a portal.

Dae-Jung was hot on the thief's tail until the two came to a road. Dae-Jung thought this would be his chance to close the gap...but he was wrong. Instead, the thief jumped from car to car across the road. "You've got to be kidding me." Dae-Jung grumbled. He could do that himself...if the cars were stationary but these were moving cars. Dae-Jung chose the easy route and ran across the road like a man possessed. Despite several near misses and angry drivers, Dae-Jung made it through unscathed.

He'd lost a little ground on the thief, but he was still close behind. As he rounded the corner, Dae-Jung decided to try a different method and answer a question he had. "Thief, somebody stop that man in the hood." While it didn't appear that anyone could see him, it was worth a shot. Worst case scenario, he just looks insane, best case scenario someone stops the thief.

People gazed at Dae-Jung before looking around, searching for the thief he claimed existed. They thought he was crazy and didn’t pause once in their daily business. The dark figure quickly scaled a fire escape ladder to a steel loft. It raced up the zig-zagging steps, making its way toward the roof. The thief didn’t seem like it was going to stop anytime soon.

That went about as well as Dae-Jung expected, the people around him looked at him like he was crazy which made Dae-Jung believe it was quest related and that he was the only one able to see the hooded figure. This game of cat and mouse was getting tiresome for Dae-Jung and the end certainly wasn't in sight. It was almost like this thief knew where he was going which was troublesome, could this thief be a human? or was it a being out of a portal? He hoped for the latter it was much easier to explain use of force on a being out of a portal than on a human since at the rate this was going it was going to involve using force, would a quest such as this trigger on a human, he wished he understood more about the quest system right now, but now was not the time for such questions; it was time to take action.

Rather than keeping to the crowded streets, the thief began heading up to a rooftop, which was precisely what Dae-Jung wanted, or rather, Dae-Jung wished for the thief to get off of the streets and into a location where he could comfortably make a shot without striking a civilian. Dae-Jung chased the thief up the fire escape ladder and into the zig-zagged stairwell. Dae-Jung drew his bow from behind his back, unsure whether he could get a clear shot on the stairwell. He wasn't aiming for the thief, but rather in front of him, hoping the arrow would slow him down or possibly scare him enough to make him stop. Dae-Jung took his shot followed up by another two quick shots. "The next one goes between your eyes, Stop!" A commanding voice boomed from Dae-Jung, he had had enough of this game now. It wouldn't be long before Dae-Jung started aiming for the thief but he needed to get a clear line of sight for that, the roof should hopefully make do.

The thief didn’t stop as Dae-Jung fired on it. As arrows rebounded around it, it didn’t seem at all bothered as it continued to the roof. Even when Dae-Jung shouted after it, the thief only chuckled. A few residents appeared in the window, wondering what all the noise was on the fire escape. They saw Dae-Jung, and an older man opened his window when he had passed and shouted, “Get off my fire escape!”

The thief reached the roof and started across. It looked prepared to leap from the roof it was currently on to the next roof.

The door to the apartment swung open and Noriaki, on autopilot, entered and took off his shoes as he had countless times before. "Aniki!" he yelled while taking off his shoes. No one answered. "Aniki?... Oh right he's working today," he whispered. The realisation meant nothing to Nori as he'd have spent the day the same as always even if his older brother wasn't home. Living in sector 23 wasn't much different from living in Tokyo, except everyone spoke Korean and there were little cultural nuances that, to this day, Nori had yet to comprehend.

With his shoes taken off, Nori entered the apartment and went about his daily routine, unpacking his school bag, entering his room and changing into more comfortable clothes. The work with Dr. Chai — Dr. Chaewon, she had asked him to call her by her first name, but such a thing was... weird, to say the least to Nori; he hadn't been so casual with a woman since before the college entrance exams and he was suspicious about Dr. Chaewon's request — despite that, the work in the lab today had been stressful, to say the least. Having to create programs to assist Dr. Chaewon's research was tedious at best. Thankfully he had completed what he had wanted to before turning in for the day. Plus, he had earned himself another ~25,000 won/hour, which was great, considering the recent raise he'd received.

After changing into sweat pants and a sweater, Nori exited his room and stood tentatively in his doorway, contemplating what to do next.

Do I really want to do homework? I have plenty of time to do it.....

Tiredness and a desire to relax overcame his academic scholarship, and so Nori, instead, chose to watch TV while cooking a meal. He turned to the news channel, as he was frequently wont to do, and began making a hotpot for himself and his brother, Naruhito | 徳仁, who was working with the Japanese embassy in Seoul; a considerably prestigious job.

Nori took his time taking vegetables and some fish out of the fridge and began preparing them. After about 15 minutes of preparing dinner and idly listening to the news, Nori heard the channel switch to a more dire tone. What followed was a reporter updating viewers on something happening around a high school. Nori continued cutting vegetables, but when the news transmitted the message of the Hunters Association, Nori had to take a second to comprehend what he had heard, then he dropped everything he was doing and listened to the reporter.

With wide eyes he thought to himself, a gate appearing around high school!?.... such a thing was a terrible phenomenon that, in Nori's idea of gates, was rare.

Nori pinched his brows as he thought about what to do. Crap. I just got home.... it may be a C rank gate but I can definitely help...

Indecision wracked Nori for a second before his beliefs overcame his reluctance. He had the power to save people and now was a time to act, not stand around.

Nori let out a soft sigh then threw down the towel on his shoulder, turned off all the stoves, then rushed to his room to prepare. In what he thought was record time, Nori had equipped his D-rank equipment and rushed out the door, phone in hand as he hailed a cab.

Twenty minutes later, Nori exited a cab and found himself on a street not far from Hanyang High School. It was time to earn his keep as a healer.

Jiyeon was biking in one of the many dirt paths in Independence Park (Sector 9) when the news came. Earlier that morning he had decided to ditch school after suffering through two excruciatingly slow periods. A shortcut through the park had meant that he would get home sooner, but it looked like he would be taking a detour. His phone lit up with a danger notification. It read: Warning! C-class portal dungeon opened at Hanyoung High School, Mapo-gu. Stay away!

Others used this particular app to steer well-clear of danger. He used it to get up close and personal. Leveling up was a priority, now that he had some basic equipment. Everything so far had either been too risky or already dealt with, and this was the former. But a spare thought caught his attention. Were others like him were taking such challenges on and living? He could not afford to be set back, not any more than he already was. Setting a GPS on his phone, he began to bike his way out of Independence Park and then to Hanyoung High School.

Most of the journey was downhill, which made his passage fast and effortless. Only a few minutes later, Jiyeon spotted the school. Police and official-looking cars had cordoned off the parking lot and had made some makeshift barricades. The door to the school was left ajar, and a nearby bike was left unattended on the ground. Someone had entered. Jiyeon's ears started to rush with blood. This would mark the first actual battle. Life-or-death. Fighting with all his might...

After concluding that he would be stopped before making it through everything, he cycled around the school to the least-guarded side, where he found an unused metal door with an old lock. Jiyeon leaned his bike against the wall and, adrenaline pumping, opened his inventory.

His rank armor stunk of alcohol and sweat, but it gave him some protection, at least. The Kraken Blade sheared through the rusty lock, and Jiyeon burst through the door, gun and blade at the ready. Nothing there. Taking stock of his surroundings, it seemed the door was the entrance to a small kitchen. A place for meals. He exited the room and ran his way down dirty corridors and lines of lockers. Towards the front of the high school. If someone had entered, they would be around that area, and Jiyeon would have a companion to bolster the odds of both of them getting out.

Dae-Jung was breaking a sweat at this point; granted, he was a hunter and was used to strenuous activity thanks to both of his vocations, but the continual running, climbing, and now stair's, not to mention trying to avoid all of the pedestrians back when he was on the street, was starting to wear him down. This was going to be a long morning. This thief didn't even flinch when Dae-Jung fired his arrows, which was a little concerning because at this rate Dae-Jung was about to lose him. Dae-Jung braced himself, knowing he wouldn't be able to catch the thief simply by following him since his pace was too fast. The quest only stated capture the means being left up to Dae-Jung would killing the thief be classed as capture? Dae-Jung wasn't sure, but if he could avoid it, he didn't want to murder the thief just in case; yet, an arrow to the body or legs is survivable. "I'm sorry, I'll be gone in a minute." Dae-Jung yelled back to the old man, he felt bad for inconveniencing him but he didn't have the time to stop.

When the two arrived on the roof, it was clear that the thief was not going to stop unless Dae-Jung forced him to. Dae-Jung grinned; it appeared that the thief had nowhere to go, that was until he watching the thief's movement and it became clear what his intention was to jump to the other roof. Dae-Jung had no idea how long the leap would be, how high the drop would be, or even whether he'd be able to make it, which meant one thing: he needed to stop the thief right now. The legs would be the greatest hope for stopping the thief, but they would also be a difficult target with him running. The body had the most mass and was an easier target but more risk of killing the thief, so for now Dae-Jung wanted the legs. Dae-Jung slowed himself down and drew his bow. "Firefly, don't fail me now." He mumbled quietly as he released two arrow's one after another, targeting the thief's legs, one on the left leg and one on the right.

If the arrows missed their mark, he would pick up his speed and return to pursuing the thief, nocking another arrow when the thief was airborne and aiming at the thief's body this time, as an airborne target has far more difficult dodging than a grounded one.

With his catch pole in hand, Young-Soo followed the main road back into town, mentally reciting the directions he had been given by Mrs Yun when a buzzing from his pocket pulled him away from his thoughts. With his left hand covered by an ungainly protective glove, Young-Soo tucked the catch pole under the same armpit as he slipped out his phone. On the screen were two notifications, one from Alex and the other from Sang, about the news. Though both were telling him to check the news, their tones were vastly different with Alex's reading as a warning while his boss's message was a bolstering encouragement to increase his rank. Curious but still on the job, Young-Soo made sure he was still heading in the right direction, noting the stone bridge before him which deemed he turned right, according to Mrs Yun's instructions, before attempting to search for the latest news stories.

With only a brief search on the internet, Young- Soo was immediately greeted with reports of apparent suicide, dead policeman and a portal opening up within Hanyoung High School. Not sure where to start, the bombarded beast tracker lifted his head and took another look around. Keeping true, the blackened tree in the distance as he gazed out from the narrow alley, Young-Soo started to filter through the stories. Quickly registering the suicide angle as an older article, Young-Soo moved on to the C rank portal appearance, the story turning out to be one and the same as the policeman's tragic death as the monsters that had appeared from it had been noted as the cause. Other than that, there was no real information on what was happening in the articles so upon hearing the sounds of the nearby nursery, and catching the pink painted wall in the corner of his eye, Young Soo turned left and moved on to videos.

Watching the live feed from the Annyeong News site, the patient path finder would have preferred his laptop for the task but as he was almost to his destination, he just focused on the modest screen of his phone. But again, there was no real update of the situation but, behind the reporter, it looked like groups of people had begun forming outside, whether they were survivors or Hunters however was not apparent. Watching for a few minutes, Young-Soo couldn't help but feel for the victims, letting out an empathetic sigh as the high walled house that was the deer's den came into view, forcing him closed the video. He had the put the events playing out elsewhere to the back of his mind for now as he now had his own rescue to manage.

With his catch pole back in hand, the animal control officer knocked on the door to no response so after a few minutes Young-Soo decided to do a quick recon around the house slipping down the side alley in the process. With no sounds coming from the back or the inside of house, Young- Soo tried his luck with the back gate but unsurprisingly it was closed tight. With the high fence making it impossible to leap over into the garden, he would have to improvise. Noticing a loose panel in the wood, Young-Soo manoeuvred it out of the way with his gloved hand and peered through before pushing his catch pole through towards the gate latch. With great difficulty he attempted to unlock the door, hooking the latch with the tip of his tool until finally his determination won through and with an awkward heave he had done it.

Pushing the gate open, he looked into the garden to see the Water Deer resting under a lone tree, it's back to him as it sat on the grass with it's legs tucked underneath it's furry frame. Seemingly knowing it was no longer alone, the Vampire turned it's head, revealing it's fearsome fangs as it looked in Young-Soo's direction. Knowing that the captive creature was generally docile, the abreast animal catcher was unafraid and slowly moved away from the gate and into the garden. With wary eyes, the bashful buck watched Young-Soo as he stepped out of the way and with only a moments hesitation the Water Deer made for the only exit and out of the open gate. Carefully and quickly, Young-Soo followed, closing the gate behind him as he pursued the deer.

Thankfully the venturing Vampire remained quite calm as it wandered through the quiet street, the perilous portal at Hanyoung High School keeping most people glued to their televisions inside their houses, making Young-Soo's job easier as he tailed it from behind. With gentle coaxing and a bit of corralling when the poor creature went astray, the adamant ACO managed to navigate the Water Deer back to the woods. With a smile Young-Soo watched it go until it vanished out of sight, the water deer never looking back as it headed home, before removing his glove and looking at his phone again, pulling up the video of Hanyoung High School Portal again....

Jiwon arrived at Hanyang High School. He stepped out of the taxi after paying the driver and approached the site. It looked like the police and the hunter association had cordoned off the school and blocking any easy avenues of entering the school grounds. He began walking around to see if he could find anyone who looked like they had a decent grasp on the situation. It didn't take long before he saw a familiar looking person in a suit. Jiwon pulled up his phone and replayed the video that he saw in the news article he saw earlier. A few moments later, he knew he had found the person he was looking for. Jiwon approached the man and said "Excuse me sir, you're a part of the Hunter Association right? I'm Park Jiwon, a new E-rank mage. Is there anyway that I could be of any help? I might not be able to take hits like an armored Knight, but I should be of some use as a backline support mage, along with my summon. Is there a guild or a party that's forming that I could join or aid or perhaps is there anything I could do to help you handle this situation? I should be more useful than a cop with a gun." Jiwon then looked at a nearby cop and then back at the man and said "No offense to them, but I don't think bullets will do much against these monsters." as he pulled out his C-Rank Orb to show the man that despite Jiwon being new, he was somewhat prepared for a fight and could be of some use.

The burning arrows of the Firefly were loosed one hitting the back of the thief’s left thigh, and the second biting into its calf. The dark figure’s legs crumbled beneath it, and it fell flat on its stomach. With legs uselessly stretched behind it, the thief seemed to tremble in silent pain. Lifting its head, it gazed over its shoulder at Dae-Jung and once again, from the shadow of its hood, the archer would see a grin. Grasping at the cement turf, the thief dragged itself vigorously, legs swaying behind it. It was making a mad crawl for the edge of the roof!

A low bellow coupled with the loud hiss of what sounded like steam sounded above Young-Soo. A shadow passed over him, briefly blotting out the sun as whooshing flaps of great wings could be heard. The air stirred by the black beast’s flight caused the trees to whisper and sway in the gale. A colossal black dragon landed on top of an eight-story apartment complex in Young-Soo’s sight. Its spiked tail hung over the ledge, its wings flapped before curling behind its back like towers, and the horns on its head stood like a crown as it rested.

"Heol...."

Young-Soo couldn't help but be taken aback by the almighty sight before him, as a colossal black dragon roosted a few blocks away, the apartment complex almost like a makeshift throne for the almighty creature. Cautiously, Young-Soo lifted his phone up, and with a click, took a picture of the black beast before him. With utter haste, he texted all his contacts the picture, reporting the dragons appearance as both a warning and a cry for help. Still if he did receive help it would take time, so for now he had to do something.

Concentrating on his aura, Young-Soo focused on willing to him his gear as best he could with the terrifying titan nearby. Slowly but surely he made his will manifest, the light of his aura surging around him, bathing his clothes in a pale green light as he metamorphized. Falling around him like falling leaves, the mint coloured mist shrouding his head with a humble hood as it travelled downwards converting his coveralls to the prevailing robe of a mage, the coattails of which fell with a flourish as the transformation finished at his feet, his work boots becoming that of fresh leather. Stretching his arms out to either side he channelled his aura towards his hands, the greenish haze floating in his palms as he willed it to take shape. Concentrating on his right hand first, his aura shone as it formed a jagged hilt within his hand, Young-Soo twisted the weapon, catching the sharpened handguard in his hand as a serrated blade arose from the hilt. Slipping it into the bandolier around his back, the aura blazing ACO focused on his left hand now. Upon his hand formed a shining square, which fell outwards of his palm as smaller, slimmer squares appeared with quickening speed within it, until it was complete, the light fading to reveal a blackened book. Snapping the tome shut, Young-Soo placed it within the satchel, strewn across his shoulder.

With that he was ready.

Young-Soo would approach the dragon as carefully as possible, using the buildings as cover to mask his approach. All he wanted to do was get close enough and if he was, hopefully, intelligent enough, possibly eavesdrop on the resting beast, or at the least he could judge it's motives...

Na Kyung’s bemusement at being the first one to their meeting had quickly devolved into annoyance. He was tapping his foot and checking his watch at regular intervals. You bastards… This is why Eclipse’ll never rise in the ranks. No dedication. None at all… He stayed there for a little while like that, sulking and lamenting his rotten luck when it came to friends, when he heard his phone vibrate.

That was weird, he thought. Typically for meetings he stowed his phone away in his bike and didn’t check it. The only ones who would be calling or texting right now should be at the meeting so he generally didn’t see the point of keeping it on hand. It rang, and rang, and Na Kyung let himself revel in making the person on the other end of the line sweat. Just a little longer. They were probably calling to tell him why they were late, peddling some lame ass excuse. Probably overslept, or forgot. He finally picked up.

“Traitor.” He said into the receiver. There was a pause. Followed by a flabbergasted,

”Huh.?!” The boy on the other end of the line didn’t let Na Kyung continue. “Dude, where are you!? Did you see my texts? Portal at Hanyoung! We’re heading there now!”

Na Kyung’s heart skipped a beat. A portal..? His reaction was at first unclear. Was he guilt-ridden for not being at school today on the one day it would’ve been justified? Was he scared..?

He took a deep breath. Then he shouted into the receiver.

“HELL. YEAH!” He whooped and slammed the phone shut before hopping on his bike and tearing ass toward the school. He better not be too late!

When Young-Soo took the dragon's picture, the beast did not appear in the photo. It remained where it sat as though waiting. A strange window appeared in front of Young-Soo and informed:

You have discovered a dragon! The dragon will leave in 2 min.

The timer started to count down. The creature was perched on the roof of an eight-story apartment that Young-Soo had probably never entered before. In two minutes, the dragon would be gone.

Dae-Jin was wandering about the school as he attempted to locate something resembling a monster. All he had found so far were dead teenagers. Which was quite morbid but was simply the world they lived in. A few times he had found a couple of almost dead kids. Usually he'd either sit with them until they passed or put them out of their misery. It was cruel and unfair that they had to die like this. Yet they had simply found themselves victims of circumstance. Dae-Jin sincerely hoped they went somewhere nicer. One time he had poked his head out of a window to see an actual Dragon perch on a building. "Sucks to be whoever has to deal with that shit" said the novelist as he rested his sword on his shoulder. Coming upon the body of a teacher. Dae-Jin searched the body for anything that could be used to I.D. him. After which he looted some jingling keys from the guys jacket. Dead people didn't need to hold on to keys that could otherwise be used to keep alive people still alive. Despite having infiltrated this school with intent to grind some C-Rank Monsters. Dae-Jin hadn't actually encountered anything that wanted to kill him.

It took Young-Soo a couple of seconds to register what was going on, before he started to race towards the apartment complex. It seemed the dragon was not a threat but rather part of a quest, a quest he was now undertaking. And the dragon was also invisible maybe, his photo of the black behemoth showing naught but clear sky and open roof. Somehow he had detected or sensed the dragon's appearance it seemed though this was the first time such a thing had happened to him in his months of being a Hunter so maybe this was more common than he realised.

But maybe not.

Rushing towards the building and noting the dangling tail of the dragon hanging from the roof, which would be his goal if need be, he took a shot at using his senses once again as he scanned the outside of the building hoping to detect some hidden means of ascension that would help him traverse the great height. If not, he would have to rely on his natural speed and agility to ascend the stairs as he dared not risk the elevator, the thing having too many variables if there was even one in the first place. Still his gear afforded him some bonuses when it came to quick movements so hopefully he could make it in time, but he would keep his senses sharp within the building as well, just in case.

Seo-Yeon reached for the keys in her pocket when the car that left suddenly screeched back in front of her apartment. Giving it a glance back, she barely got a word out when her own phone rang of several text messages. She looked at the sender and frowned deeply. Her boss had managed to, in a short amount of time, text her several orders to check out a sudden portal break in a high school.
'A C-rank? Bit out of my pay grade if he's asking me to get in- damn old coot actually sent an order to have me go in! Why in the actual hell would I even risk my neck for a dungeon two ranks higher than me?!'

She actually did text the latter half, curses and all, to her boss, getting an immediate reply.
'Haaa, the damn coot's trying to bribe me with a salary bonus? Like that's gonna be worth anything if I get my head lopped clean off my shoulders.' She grumbled inwardly, already opening the door before her assistant could begin to get out to do so.
"Bastard's trying to kill me, I swear to god," she spat as her driver already received the location of the dungeon break and began to drive. "Not even half an hour after getting off a flight I'm already getting ordered around by that lazy idiot who got his position from good ol' dad. God I hate nepotism."
The driver remained silent as her weapons emerged. A glint of light shone through when she held them up towards the sun. She was never one for weapons, no matter how much they suited the role she was given. A straight forward class like most E-ranks, it didn't stop her from watching a few supervised hunts to know that she wasn't one to use weaponry in the slightest. With how she saw it, the use of her hands were enough to incapacitate any equal rank monster so long as her weapons were actively on her person.
Her armor shimmered briefly over her, turning invisible to keep her sense of style intact. In a world of digital media, appearances mattered. Whether it meant wearing the full set of expensive of Hunter clothing or being conservative like she is, the world was constantly watching. Better to make an image of yourself and let the crowds understand what that means rather than letting them assume. Assumptions were incredibly annoying after all and the last thing anyone wanted was to have their image and self misinterpreted.
By the time her ride reached the dungeon break there were plenty of people already heading in to rescue civilians, though judging by the lack of police intervention, they were probably there to only do just that. With a C-rank dungeon, it'd be better to wait for the appropriate Hunters to arrive and tag along rather than risk her life for trying to clear a gate that was clearly stronger. If E-ranks were good for something, it was being able to help those that were too scared and vulnerable to do so rather than take on the current monsters.
That didn't mean much though. Her superior's orders were to check out the type of enemies that have broken through the gate and report it back. Considering how the police and association have cordoned off a perimeter, it wouldn't be particularly easy to get in. If she was stupid, that is.
Exiting the car, she stayed within the limits of the cordon itself, letting the Association do what it does best. As an E-rank, she had little business attempting to enter the area without proper back up. The Association was made for a reason to stop unneeded deaths from gung-ho heroes. She valued her life more than the money promised and getting in the good graces of her superiors wasn't the highest in her priority list if they sent her here to die. So she simply stayed and waited near the front, her weapons holstered to show that she was a hunter waiting for instruction.

There were no special passages revealed to reach the roof. The apartment complex had a front desk, an elevator, and stairs. The elevator stopped at the eighth floor. The stairs reached the roof.

Na Kyung was the last to arrive. Of Eclipse, anyway. Ahead of him had been Nae Sung-Ki, captain of Eclipse and E-ranked Archer, Ha Ji-Tae, captain of Eclipse and E-ranked Knight, and lastly, Yon Kyu-Bok, captain of Eclipse and E-ranked Mage. Together, the four of them were the leaders, founding- and most reliable-members of Na Kyung's fledgling association. They were standing in the cordon with the others. Where it was safe. Safe. The word made Na Kyung sick. Safety was the enemy of glory. Safety and comfort. They were for babies the forgotten of history. "What're you guys doing?" He squawked, kicking off his bike and trotting over to where they stood. "The portal's on the roof. I looked it up on the ride over here."

He was met with apprehensive looks. Protestations of, We're only E-ranks!, and, Let the Pros handle it, were enough to make Na Kyung's blood boil. "The Hell with that!" He shouted and stomped one foot against the police barricade, preparing to vault it. "We are Eclipse! This is how we are going to show this city that we mean business! This is our big break, and you all just want to sit by and wait on the sidelines?!" He glared at each of them in turn until they found their nerve. And just like that, the four of them breached the police line and charged into the monster-infested school as their gear materialized around them...

Na Kyung hefted his Heavy Sword across one shoulder as he pulled absently on the straps of his armor. The weight of the blade felt good. It felt right. Despite how imbalanced it was, how clumsy it handled... Who knows? Maybe some of these monsters would have good loot and he could toss this heap of junk away in favor of something more fitting...

"Oh god. There's so many dead kids in here." Yon Ky-Bok said, clutching his staff like a crucifix. Coward, Na Kyung thought. He didn't look at the bodies strewn along the corridors. He was here to hunt monsters, not mourn the weak and the dead.

With nothing on the outside to help, and the dragon still waiting but for not much longer, Young-Soo took the stairs. Fingers crossed he could make it all the way to the roof, but if not it seemed he have to make a go for the tail of the beast from one of the higher floors. Counting down the time in his head, he took two steps at a time in his mad dash to the dragon.

The black dragon's head turned and gazed upon the door to the stairwell. Its eyes gleamed like orange coals and dark smoke left its flaring nostrils in ribbons. A low growl rumbled in its chest as the creature seemed to detect a warrior approaching.

Upon exiting the cab, Noraki hurriedly slammed the door and rushed through the daylit street in the direction of Hanyoung High School. Having had plenty of time to study the map around the school prior to arriving, Nori felt confident in where to go. His plan was simply: patrol the outside of the school looking for wounded and fellow Hunters. Nori was hoping to find other Hunters he could coax into teaming up; he needed someone to watch his back if there were survivors and wounded.

A bit of adrenaline pumped through Nori's veins as he ran, which was one of the reasons he choose to expend some energy on his approach. The police barricades blocking the school entrance, along with a few officers, came into view. However, that wasn't what caught his attention. A group of Hunters had just entered the main building, and there was another Hunter in front of the barricades. Nori slowed his approach and mentally materialised his armour and weapons, and he felt the familiar weight of his dagger and skull in his hands. A few officers noticed his approach and stiffened; Nori's armour didn't have the most... calming of appearances. It was crude and a bit scary, and the addition of the skull he held definitely painted him as some kind of cultist.

Despite the looks, Nori gave the officers and bystanders a curt nod and continued on his way, choosing to approach the woman Hunter in front of the barricades. Nori climbed over the barricades with ease. Taking a second to formalize his thoughts into Korean, Nori called out to the shorter women after making some noise to hail his approach.

"Hey, are there still survivors inside? What's the situation?"

Ji-Ho Hak sat in the back of the classroom, her mind thinking about the upcoming tournament the soccer team would be taking part in. Despite being a first year, she had proven herself a formidable player and had been selected to be a sub for the tournament. That was a huge deal, she was the only first year selected, everyone else were second or third years and Hanyoung's soccer team was pretty good. In fact, that was part of why Ji-Ho had chosen to go to the school. Competing with other top schools would allow her to excel and grow more quickly than playing with a bunch of kids that weren't taking the game seriously. Luckily, despite her less than stellar grades, the school had given her a scholarship to attend and play on the soccer team. She was a little upset about not making it as a starter, but she also wondered if that was just because of her age. In truth, she knew that Eun-Woo was a third year and a really good player, but she also happened to play the same position as Ji-Ho. Coach had made it clear that he wanted them both to play together but they just needed more time to practice.

There were circles on the board and the instructor was talking about circumference and arcs and other things that Ji-Ho wasn't paying any attention to. In her mind, she was going over the team's prospective formation as well as their first opponent's formation and player info. She had played with some of those girls before, this level only had so much talent in the small country. As a defender, she was particularly concerned with the opponent's offensive players, a couple of highly skilled forwards that partnered well together. Ji-Ho looked to her watch when a squeal came from the hallway. Everyone turned that way, as classwide curiosity settled in. Apparently, someone had jumped off the roof, or so the conversation seemed to suggest. That was until the monsters started pouring into the halls from the roof. The screams, like dominoes, echoed through the halls, going from the beginning, closest to the stairs, down the halls. Class decorum ceased to exist as everyone rushed for the exits with no worry or concern for their teacher or classmates. Like the rest of her class, Ji-Ho jumped up and rushed towards the door, attempting to run towards the nearest exit. Some went left and some went right, no one sure which direction was truly safer than any other. Ji-Ho, like everyone else, was getting shoved left and right; luckily, the teen was able to retain her balance thanks to similar jockeying from soccer. She turned right out of the door.

Now in the hallway, the classmates had a little room to spread out and refrain from shoving one another. Some of the other students materialized armors and weapons because they strived to be hunters. This reminded Ji-Ho that she also had armor and weapons she could materialize, though she had no intention of becoming a professional hunter. She had weapons and armor because her parents had given them to her, just as a precautionary measure for some occasion just like this one. Her father was a C rank hunter, not terribly well to do but he had access to weapons and armors and since Ji-Ho was his only child, he'd given some to her despite her seeming disdain for the profession. In truth, her eyes were just solely focused on soccer. Ignoring that thought for the moment, Ji-Ho took that moment as they neared the hall's end to materialize her own armor and weapons... if they could help her get out of here alive, then it would have been worth it.

At the hall's end, the group of classmates once again split, one going left and the other going right. Ji-Ho went right, they were all just looking for an exit so they could get home safely. Ji-Ho made the turn, rushing right into the back of a large furry individual. She quickly realized that she'd made a wrong turn as she backpedaled some. Others from her class went around them, but Ji-Ho was a little shocked to be face to... back with a real monster. Her brain was in overdrive, she didn't even notice the body of Min on the ground or the other person in tears cradling it. As the creature turned towards her, survival instinct kicked in and Ji-Ho jumped back, creating space between her and it. She didn't want to be fighting monsters, but she was beginning to feel like she had no other choice.
