Gaming vs Reality

  1. Railyhn was sitting in front of her computer screen debating what to do next. Her guild leader had left her in charge while he was away on business. Well saying she was in charge was not exactly right. Her character Thaddeus, a level 90 tank paladin, was in charge for one more day before Maximus was back under the rule of Regalius. She sighed, as she tapped the screen with her pen. She was supposed to be coming up with a topic proposal for her Anthropology class but running this raid was far more important to her.
School was a breeze but her job at Artemis, a five star restaurant downtown, was a completely different story. Her manager abused her, she barely got recognition, the only upside was the pay was enough for her to own her two bedroom townhouse. Spinning around in a chair, she decided to do one more raid before she logged off. She would sign up for a non guild group just for kicks. She sat and waited for the team to assemble. They had a healer, she was a tank and they had a rogue and a monk. They needed one more person then they could start the raid.

  2. Connor had his character running around looking for that raid that would bump what he had to just enough to buy that staff he had his eye on. Seeing a well rounded enough group, he hurries to join them before someone else does. His character was a level 78 mage creatively named "The_Grey", and he had made a point to color all his armor a grey color. And he had kitted thale character out to be mobile, if not fast, and strong, if not powerful. He was an all-rounder, and his abilities were meant to augment his allies, or curse his foes.
In real life, Connor was not so impressive. He went to a nearby college to study astronomy and other things to do with space. He worked at the local store to pay for it all, and had many a night ate noodles. But, at least he was awesome in the game.

Seeing the new person added to her group, Railyhn grimaced. The_Grey was only level 78. She just hoped he didn't aggro everything, so they could raid in piece. She decided to check out what he had equipped. Looking over his equipment, she was a bit impressed. What he didn't have in level he made up with in armor and skills. She whispered his character privately. Nice armor you got there. Happy raiding with us. She just wanted the other guy to know that Thaddeus had his back in this raid. Railyhn looked at the clock. She had a shift to go to in about an hour. She hoped this raid would go by quickly so that she could get to work without being chewed out by her manager. Still, she had a good feeling as they went through the portal to fight monsters.

Thnx he replied shortly before following in the back of the group. 'What are you thinking? You aren't nearly high enough a level to be with these guys.' he thought to himself during the loading screen. 'Yes, but this will push us over the edge and let us buy that staff.' was the inevitable response.

Once through the loading screen, he immediatly set about buffing everyone. He gave the Paladin a defence and attack boost, and agility for the monk and rogue. The Healer he didn't buff, reasoning out that he would stay in the back with him.

Thaddeus looking over the buff was impressed. It would seem they had a good group after all. they breezed through the small fries and had reached the first boss. She made quick work of him, dropping hammers and holy magic over him. This was how the whole raid went. It was very smooth and quick. By the time they had reached the final boss, everyone have level, well except her of course since she was maxxed but she did get a nice new shiny battle axe. When the final boss was defeated, it dropped a super rare staff. It was a legendary. She smirked. This was a nice treat for the level 78 mage who didn't die. Good job everyone. Especially you Grey, that was impressive for someone your level.

Making his character dance about the staff, him doing a little jig in his chair about the whole thing, said Thanks. Well, so much for buying a pricey one from the shop. he typed, not really caring if they cared before running off to spend it on some armor or something. And spend his newly gained points, can never forget those. Sending a whisper to Thaddeus, he said That was a good raid. Tell me if you got anymore.

In the end, he had boosted his character's defense thanks to some new armor. The staff gave him a large buff to speed and how long his spells lasted, as well as base damage. Over all, for his level, it was a pretty good haul.

In real life, he looked over at his clock and was pleased to see that he would not be late for work if he set this down right now and left.

She looked at the whisper and smiled. It would seem that Thaddeus had yet another supporter. She decided to send him a friend request. May we raid together again soon. Railyhn was happy to see that she wouldn't be late for work. She put on her chef coat and fixed her hair. She adjusted her glasses before leaving out with her laptop bag in tow. She arrived at her restaurant with a smile. Her manager eyed her suspiciously. "What are you so happy about?" He said gruffly. Railyhn looked at him and shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing just a good mood, Oliver." She rolled up her sleeves and started to cook happily in the kitchen. If she wasn't dead set on being a sound engineer, she could do this forever.

Quickly accepting the friend request, a level 90 friend was always useful. Anway, he was done there and needed to get to the store. So, rushing off in a hurry, after carefully making sure everything was saved and shut down properly of course. No one paid him any mind when he walked in, just the way he wanted it.

The night flew by fast and before she knew it, Railyhn was done. She wanted to rush home to get back to gaming but she needed to pick up something to eat. She walked into a nearby store and looked around. She wasn't sure what she wanted to eat but she wanted something she could make quickly. She went down the noodle aisle thinking maybe tonight was a good night for spaghetti. She stared at her choices for awhile.

((I thought it might be good for our characters to meet in real life too still not knowing who each other are))

(My thoughts exactly.)

Oh look, a costumer. Connor wasn't much of a people person, but apparently he was enough to be on the floor. So, walking up to the woman, he says "Can I help you, ma'am?" Of course, he was also thinking about the good stuff he had just gotten and who he would show it to.

"Um," she was extrememly shy. This was the closest to a human male interaction she would get. She looked up at the guy and a blush covered her face. He was cute and Railyhn didn't do cute. She didn't know how to speak to him without sounding like an idiot. She adjusted her glasses and cleared her throat. "I-I," she fidgeted before picking up a random box of noodles,"Do you have these in chicken flavor?" She almost shouted. She kept her eyes planted on the ground. Railyhn had made a fool of herself.

Shocked at the sudden rush of words, Connor stood there dumbfounded. Then she asked if shell noodels came in chicken. "No. Not exactly. There is garlic chicken over here though. It's pretty good if I do say so myself." he said as he walked over and picked a bag up. "It's pretty simple to. The instructions are right on the back of the bag."

Railyhn looked at the box she held up and grimaced. How many times would she make a fool out of herself in front of the opposite sex? She took the bag from him shyly and averted her eyes. "Th-thank you." She knew how to make what he presented her with ease but she was happy he didn't treat her like an idiot.

"No problem. I could check that out for you if you want?" Connor said as he began to walk tentatively in the direction of the cash registers. 'What a strang girl.' he thought to himself.

"Um, okay." She said shakily. She hadn't had a conversation this long with anyone out side of her job or guild. She found herself at a loss for words. She followed him to the counter. Railyhn couldn't wait to go home and play her game. It was far easier than human interaction.

Reaching the register, he got behind it and got ready to do his job. Good thing he didn't have to work much longer. Taking the bag, he scans it and reads off the price. Here is where he thought 'She's so weird. I kind of want to know more about her. Man up Connor and say something.' So, gathering himself, he says "Would you like to get something to eat later? If you want to that is. You don't have to, if you don't want to." He had wimped out after he had said the important bit.

Railyhn looked at him agape. Was he seriously asking her out? She eyed him suspsiciously. He didn't appear to be the type of guy to stand you up. She went in her bag, and fiddled with the money. "I-I," in truth she had never gone on a date in her life, it couldn't hurt. "I-if you want to." She said shyly. "Railyhn, please call me Rai." She said bowing her head. She just hoped it wasn't a joke. She was hoping luck was on her side for once.

'That worked?' he thought to himself. "Ya, sure. I'm Connor. Um... Here's your change." he said before hastily handing her the change. 'How did that work? You fudged it up halfway through, yet you still got her to say yes. Either you are a natural, or very lucky.'

"Connor." She repeated to make sure she remembered his name. Railyhn had very few friends and even less that were male. She took her change and stepped to the side. "Uh, here." She said fumbling through her bag. She wrote down her phone number and address. "Y-you mind i-if I go change? I don't live far." She said nervously. She just didn't want to wear her chef coat out in case they grabbed food.

"Uh, yeah sure. I'll just be here. I'm off in a few minutes anyway." he explained to her as he took the peice of paper with her phone number and address on it. 'Cheezits and rice, Connor. If only they could see you now.' the thought to himself as he warched her leave. Giving himself a shake, he heads to where he could drop his uniform off and get into his street clothes.

Railyhn went home quickly and ransacked her closet. Having never been on a date she was unsure what to wear. She mostly wore sweatshirts and jeans. She had a few tank tops but that didn't seem appropriate either. After destroying her room, Railyhn found one shirt her mother had gifted her last christmas. It was a sinple navy blue long sleeve with ties on they sleeves. She threw on a pair of dark jeans and didn't bother with her hair leaving it in a bun. She returned to the store to see him standing outside. She looked at her watch and spoke shyly, "So umm, w-what do you want to do?"

"Hi." he said smiling. But then the smile was wiped from his face when she asked him what he wanted to do. What did he want to do? He didn't even expect to get that far. "Um... How about we just go for a walk? If that's ok." 'Or we can go play an online game where I just got a bad ass staff and robes.' he thought to himself.

Railyhn shrugged her shoulders. Having never been on a real date with an actual person, she was just happy to do just about anything. "Um," she said shyly,"A walk sounds nice to me." Not like she couldn't use the exercise. The only stamina she knew was on her rogue.

"Alright, let's go then." he said and picked a random direction. 'Now, what the hell should I talk about? Space? No, remember all the blank looks you get.' he thought to himself. 'Maybe get to know her a little bit more.' "So, what do you do?" he asked. Start small, then work your way up. Yeah, that would hopefully work.

"Uh," she started. Railyhn had to try harder to communicate. She didn't want to completely blow it with the only guy who was interested. "I am the head chef for Figueroa's, the five star restaurant downtown." She said softer than she wanted. She hoped he heard her so that she didn't need to repeat herself.

Connor didn't hear everything, but he did hear head chef. "Well that has to pay better then being a worker in a general store." he said. Now, what to tell her? Talking about a game was a negatory, probably bore her. And space was rather interesting, that might do it actually. "I'm a student in college. Astronomy and airodynamics. The two key factors of spce." he contiued. "I plan on getting a job with NASA, probably part of the ground crew. Look at me, do I look like I'd do well in space?"
