2016- Humans finally found a way to cultivate mars to be suitable for human lives, later that year the first of many missions have been lunched in order to do just that.
2018- The Adam and Eve project as it was known had been partially completed humans were now able to survive on mars, though the project was far from over while they could survive on mars it was still very costly and the project was continued in order to make mars as close to earth as possible
2021- Mars landscape was now starting to resemble earth's with a lot of green and even a man made ocean, the first colony was been deployed the first humans to live on mars.
2022- A few months after the humans started to colonize mars they manage to even have internet up there, and the number of people who lived there was on the rise. Soon cities were been built and the UN recognized the Mars colony as an independent country even though the US China and Russia were all very reluctant to do so since they were the main investors of the Adam and Eve project, but the "space laws" that they all signed years ago gave them little to chose.
2023- The first officially confirmed contact with an alien... It was not just one species of aliens, it was a governmental body of all intellectual species in the milky way the Federation of Intellectual species or the FoIS. Which in their definition a intellectual species is only considered as one once they are able to colonize other plants, they knew about humans for ages maybe even before we knew about gun powder or even fire. And now that the humans were finally "smart enough" to join them they made contact, it was basically impossible to refuse... if the humans refuse they are as good as dead every one knew that including the humans.

1.The species will have to form a unified government to control their people.
2.The species will set an embassy on plant Siero (A plant humans didn't even discovered yet as it was too far away)
3.After five years the species will have to take part in the "colony wars"*
In return FoIS will share their technology and aid the species to advance and catch up to the other members of the Federation
*The colony wars are games that the species has to bet one of its colonies (The species's home plant can be bet as well, if it does and the colonies of that species are also handed over, and the species loses its rights.)
The humans were forced to accept of course and they did.
2028- With the help of FoIS and their technology humans managed to colonize Europa and even Kepler 186f which was renamed to Nova-Terra. But five years have passed and now humans were forced to take part in the "colony wars". The humans decided that fighting in flesh would be stupid and decided to go with mechs, training soldiers to fight in those mech was proven difficult and the results were horrible. So the UN who was now in full power as FoIS required had an idea, who is better than gamers that almost their entire life have spent fighting by controlling a character using VR headset and a joystick or a power glove. Luckly for the UN and the humans there was a very popular game that was basically a sim of mech fighting. The UN secretly sponsored the 2028 World champion ship of "Lost war", and recruited the top players of the game.

Humans have to fight in games to survive and decide to use gamers to do so, as the weapon of choice is now mechs instead of tanks planes and infantry.
