Video Games Game recommendations with strong leading women

I'm not great at stealth games, so Dishonored is a no go for me. And I've played the first Tomb Raider, but not the most recent one. I'll see if I can borrow it from someone to play. And I've played a bit of Life is Strange, and though some of the concepts were interesting, it just wasn't for me. Thanks for the suggestions!

The Witcher 3. Geralt of Rivia is a strong, independent woman who don't need no man.

Alright, alright. I'll stop. In all seriousness, I know it has been said before, but Tomb Raider (both the 2013 remake and Rise of the Tomb Raider) are both decent games (nothing amazing and impeccable like the aforementioned Witcher 3, but still fun games).

Mabinogi is an MMO that can feature you as the strong leading woman if you desire. But that's most generic non gender-locked MMO plots. The game does however, feature strong female protagonist and antagonist figures Dor something more direct (and coherent) there's the Tinkerer, Lancea, Witch, and Archer paths of Dragon Nest.

Featuring a better story than both of the above is a free indie game known as Iji, wherein a single girl stands between an invading force of aliens and extinction. Events change based on how many enemies you kill and there's secret tidbits/extra pieces of llore everywhere. You can end the game as a super weapon or an innocent young woman with a god-like amount of pluck.

I don't know what classifies as strong female lead, exactly but I do know of some fun games where you can play as a female character that isn't sexualized.

Civilization 5 (or any version), if you play a female character.
Undertale, more like badass/psychotic little girl.
The Walking Dead Season 2, though it's more badass little girl than strong female lead.
I believe Oxenfree's main character falls under strong female lead.
Stardew Valley counts, I suppose, if you play as a female.
Skyrim could work if you play as a female and don't install sexualizing mods.

Tales of Beseria, Bayonetta, and Tales from the Borderlands (which has Fiona who is technically one of TWO main protagonists with the other being male). Many games also allow the player to play as female such as the Fable, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Elder Scrolls franchises.

seem to confuse character strength for how much pure shit you can get kicked out of you. The only emotion I have towards Lara is sadistic pleasure, due to the rest of her adventure consisting of heavy breathing and murmuring that she NEEDS to get somewhere.

Seriously, though. Try the Momodora series. Even if the leads are almost always silent, they're still interesting games.

I'd still recommend any of the fallout games really, But I find to be a bit cheatsy doodle by mentioning those cause you can choose the gender those game.

But Anyway here is my rundown of strong female protagonists

Buddy Armstrong = LISA: The Joyful

Rogue, Crystal, Rebel & Chicken = Nuclear Throne. While there is little characterization on any of the characters (In the game itself anyway, you'll find a bunch of supplementary material that will expand on the characters) but this is a game where your ultimate goal is to conquer the titular nuclear throne, so I say the chicks in here are pretty kickass

I would mention transistor but you already know about it so...

All Female Fighting Game Characters (Chun-Li, Juri Han, Mileena who actually has an in-game explanation on why she wears such provocative clothing) But i assume you're into more story driven adventure games

Don't knock it till you try it. The puzzles are challenging, the stories are always suspenseful, and there is absolutely no sexualization. Start with one of the new games, like The Silent Spy (highly recommended) or Sea of Darkness. I only suggest the newer games because the graphics are updated, and it just feels more modern. The old games are of course excellent, but start with a recent one for the best impression.

Nancy Drew gets a bad rap because she's an intelligent, crime-fighting woman. Don't listen to the naysayers! Her games are created by women, so you can guarantee there's no sexualized bullshit in them. They're very immersive and even terrifying. Oh, and the games aren't necessarily designed for children! They're for all ages, but I didn't feel childish playing any of them. They're quite morbid and very difficult on Master Sleuth.

These are PC games, by the way. Enjoy!

But more in the fact that it's such an old franchise, so there is the chance of you or somebody else has played one of these Sherlock Holmes, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Point & Click/Hidden Object games at least once in their time as a gamer. it's like saying you have played a Mario game when I think it's pretty obvious that pretty much everyone has played a Mario game at one point or another.

Fighting games use lore as an excuse to strip their female characters. It's a poor way of justifying blatant sexualization. What do you think comes first, the character design or her not-very-detailed-or-exactly-interesting background story? Anybody can say that she wears a bikini to make her move swiftly in combat, but I don't buy it. Not to mention, what's with the body meshes for females? It is what it is, and people should own up to it when it's there.

My point is that you suggested something chock-full of exploitation. Yet, here you are, saying my recommendation is out of place. Hm...

I also recommend Okami (as someone stated previously) and Skyrim, both of which still feel modern. Okami is timeless, of course, and my favorite game of all time. It does have some unnecessary moments with Issun and the ladies, but I think the art style makes up for it, as well as the comedy.

For Skyrim, you can grab the Practical Female Armor mod from Nexus to alleviate a lot of frustration. If a NPC comments on how good-looking your character is in a tavern, just brutally slaughter that NPC in public. Cat calls are the worst. If only I lived in Skyrim...

I know this game doesn't have a female lead, but you may like The Last Guardian. It's about a young child caring for a mythical creature, and nothing more. There is no sexualization, of course. Fumito Ueda is the director of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. You should try one of his titles out. They're story-driven and immersive.
