Fantasy FtK: The Demon Chalice

"Yes, but I'm not too keen on getting lectured throughout my adventure." She chuckled quietly.

“Hm I see... well, hopefully you got everything you need. When you’re ready, ask the stone to go to Dragon’s Roost.”

There was a knock at the door. It was Allen, here to accept his weapon for the journey.

She nodded before opening the door, happily holding the sword. "Here you are!"

He clutched it by the handle and lifted it up. He checked the weight and straightness.
“Spendid. Once I finish packing I’ll be ready to go.” He looked into her room and saw the suit of armor.
“Are you going to wear that?” He asked. “It’s quite gaudy. I believe it to be my grandfather’s work, no?”

"I was thinking about it. I have an extra set I've designed myself." She smiled. "What do you think would be better?"

“I’d have to see it first. You can smith too?” He was a little impressed, though she did mention working with metal as an art form.
“I’m thinking about using an expensive tool for this job. I could bring a bag of holding and keep a pantry for the trip. My worry is losing it or getting it damaged, then I’d have to answer for some angry coworkers.”

She rummaged through her bag before producing a lighter set of armor, though this one was decorated. Large swirls and colors covered the armor. Althea beamed in pride as she looked at it.

Allen smirked and looked it over. “Interesting. You painted it and fashioned the metalwork? See id be worried about the paint making me a target for sharpshooters. Do you have any ranged weapons?”

She pulled free her sword, which she had also created herself. "I also have a cross bow, but I prefer my sword."

He nodded. “I see, well my spells have plenty of reach so that won’t be a problem. I can handle a short bow decently, but just for hunting. My brother joined the military and left magic study behind. He used to make me fence with him. I truly detest combat, but I understand the important role it plays in life. Anything else you’d like to show me?”

He shrugged. “Not much, if that’s all you’re bringing.”
He looked up and noticed the canary in the room.
“Hello Oba.” He said to the bird. It chuckled and flew over to him.
“Its nice to see you making friends. It looks like Madam Black is running the PTA in your absence.”
“Well, tell her she can keep it. I think I might find a new home out in the country.”
“Pardon me, these bird ears must have misheard you. You said you were leaving the castle for good?”
“You heard right.”
“Balderdash! I know you too well, child!” The bird was flustered and feathers fell to the floor.
“Well, I’ll be up on Dragon’s Roost if you intend to stop me... same goes for you, Thea. See you around.” He winked at her and strode off with the yellow canary who was already giving him another earful about his conduct.

She prepared her last items, throwing them into a bag. She had grabbed some medical supplied, food, extra clothing, and hygienic products. Once she was sure she had everything she needed, she then proceeded to follow Allen.

It was easy to follow the trail of discarded feathers. The headmaster was cursing out his grandson with greater exasperation. They disappeared behind a door, and the blue stone in her hand led Thea towards Dragons Roost, a long buttress connected to the mountainside.
By the time she caught up with Allen and the canary, the bird was nothing but pink wrinkled skin.
“I’m going whether or not you approve, Oba. I’m clearly best suited for this chalice business. Maybe sitting behind a desk getting old and complacent is how you do things, but not me.”
“Well fine then. I just hope you realize how much you’re losing by leaving the castle.”
“I’ve taken it into great consideration.”
“Well, begone then! Good luck to you, Althea. Perhaps you can talk sense into that mad hat.”
And with that, the canary burst into a white cloud and was present no more. Just Thea and Allen on the buttress.

He looked at her. “How many people are going to ask me that?”
He looked off at the valley as a cool wind blew through his hair.
“Every great hero has a backstory. They were driven from their place of comfort. They succeed because failure isn’t an option. They cannot go home, sulk and wish things had been different. If I am to be successful, I must do as the greats have and cast off from the familiar world into the unknown. Does that make sense?”

He nodded and pulled a small horn from his pocket and blew into it. The noise travelled through the valley and echoed.
”okay... stand near the edge and wait for my count of three.”
In the distance there were a pair of creatures flying through the pass. They were large creatures with lion bodies and the heads of eagles, with wings and all. The griffons flew overhead and were coming around for the next pass. Allen got into position and watched them coming.
“One.... two...... three!” On three he jumped off the buttress, landing on the back of a griffon. The beast cried out and made a friendly clicking sound at him.

She jumped with a gulp, landing awkwardly on the back of the other griffon. She wrapped its arms around its neck as she accidentally let her eyes travel to the ground.

“Grk. You stabbed me with your armor.” The griffon growled at her. It’s voice came out like a psychic sound spell.

While looking down she saw blood trickling from its hip.

The griffon growled and flew closer to Allen. The went around the mountainside and started flying over a wetlands.
“How are you handling?” Allen asked.
The bleeding wasn’t serious. The beast hadn’t said more about its condition.

"I hate this!" She yelped, her eyes shut tightly. "This is terrifying!" She yelped

Allen laughed. “I thought you were the adventurous type? No matter, these griffons haven’t dropped anyone in the years I’ve lived here. It’s a spell called Magic Saddle. You won’t come off the creature unless you will it so.”

In the distance there was a mountain pouring smoke from the top. The curves of the mountain face made it seem twisted with evil intent.

“As you can see, the chalice has already started corrupting the world around it.” Goldleaf pointed towards the ugly, grimacing mountain.

His words seemed to provide her with some level of comfort, allowing her to relax a bit more, knowing she wasn't going to plummet to her death. Yet still looking at the ground miles beneath her did make her feel sick. Thea shook it off and followed his finger to the mountain. She winced and sighed the destruction was never something she enjoyed seeing. "Wow... That's awful." She sighed
