Stone crumbled with every step the travellers took through the delicate marshland, the scarce, fragmented ruins of a fallen city scattered as far as the eye could see. A cool mist hovered low against the ground, covering the land in a sort of refreshing yet desolate atmosphere. In the distance, something resembling a ruined castle sat high in the air. Though it seemed much of its upper structure had gone missing, it was the most building-like structure the group of five had seen all week.
"Looks like we might be able to have a roof over our heads tonight." Lirek smiled warmly, glowing with a renewed health and hope that couldn't have been imagined a week ago. Though his ribs were still visible, his skin was a more vibrant hue and his eyes glossy but lively. He trudged along agilely with his makeshift walking stick, manoeuvring around debris and puddles with ease. Though old, he was certainly not one to fall behind so easily.
"Indeed." Taji responded casually, though it had slowly become known over the past week that he had [Damaged Eyes] and likely couldn't see such a distant structure very well. On the other hand, Lirek had [Damaged Ears], and though they had not gone into detail, the cause of both permanent injuries was alluded to be their previous captors.
Taji was also more vibrant than before, his hollowed out cheeks less prominent and his fur even more plush and velvety than previous. As he prowled ahead carefully, his ears twitched before he suddenly leapt out of the way of an incoming arrow. Embedded in the swamp, the arrow sank, just as 8 rough-looking ruffians smilingly appeared from behind the ruined walls ahead of the party.
"Two beastkin and even a fairy? We've hit a goldmine boys!" The front-most human cackled crudely, before brandishing his machete and swinging it wildly at one of the unwanted goods, Kurikara. A nasty scar ran across his face, and though he seemed nothing more than a muscular brute, his movements were swift and full of confidence.
The second human, cloaked and somewhat overshadowed by the front-most attacker, quickly pounced on Tyrmar with a curved dagger. Their body was small, nimble and lithe, and they moved much like an assassin, aiming directly for Tyrmar's heart.
Roughly 50ft behind them, two bow-wielders readied their bows, one each aiming for Tyrmar and Kurikara, likely ready to strike if their allies needed backup. The other four were jeering and lazily watching the action, though the glint of their blades was something to watch out for.
