Keira looked down at the serial killer-esque note that was slipped into her locker earlier that day. Something about it terrified her, being asked to go to someone's house with pajamas and a pillow - But something seemed friendly and inviting about the note, so she went anyways. "What could possibly go wrong?" Keira's mother had said. "Go check it out! It's fine with me."


It almost seemed as if she wanted her out of the house.


Keira looked at the fancy-looking building, its odd shape fitting onto the hill it rested upon oddly well for some reason. Keira walked to the front door of the building and knocked on it. The glass on the top of the door wasn't transparent, it seemed. "H-Hello? Is anyone in here?" Keira's legs started to shake a bit, her hands clutching the note tighter and tighter. "Y-You told me to come here with this note, I think..."

Miki stared at the note. She had never really been to someone's house overnight before. She grabbed her violin case and raced home. She flung open the door, and took of her shoes. She raced into her room so as not to miss her scheduled anime. After the show finished, she packed her things and walked to the designated house with her bag and violin case in hand.
 
Fleet had driven himself home with a puzzled expression on his face, occasionally glancing down at the paper on the passenger seat. The writing looked familiar, but not familiar enough to erase the feeling of dread deep in his stomach. It didn't seem very confrontational, but then again, he had never really been good at reading people when he could see their faces. It was a thousand times harder when he didn't even know who wrote it.


He had emptied his backpack as soon as he got home and filled it with the things he was told to bring. He also picked the guitar case from the corner of the room, strapped it across his back, and headed down the stairs. He alerted his mother in the kitchen that he was going to spend the night at a friend's house and loaded the car. He drove, no uneasiness alleviated, and parked outside the designated house, just sitting there anxiously for a second.


He took a deep breath and walked up to the front door, where four of his old friends were already standing. He didn't say anything, not yet - he just took in their appearances, how they had changed over the years. "So, not just me. That's good. Slightly less axe-murder-esque," he muttered under his breath.
 

"Hold on." Aubrey asked one of his female classmates, whom he happened to be walking with - giving her a small smile in the process. He needed to grab a couple of things from his locker before he left for the day, so he turned the knob and successfully put in the combination. When fingers were able to twist the locket open, he immediately noticed a piece that had been slipped through one of the cracks in the front. Not often one to get any love letters, he was curious as to what the contents could be. After reading it, his curiosity only peaked even further.


The young man threw the books he needed into the bag, before closing it. The girl beside him asked what the letter had said, and Aubrey responded with a sigh. No, they weren't dating yet. There was no need for her to get so into his personal business. He shrugged and simply responded with a few words. 'No big deal. You wanna stop for coffee?"


He had other plans, that evening, but he bailed on them. Whatever that letter was setting up, it was just too good to pass up. With hope that he'd be reconnecting with a couple of old faces, he brought his key items; you know, sleeping bag at all. Ontop of it, he also brought some alcohol and chasers. Oh, this was going to be a splendid night. Feet led him to that same destination of the four who happened to arrive before him, and Aubrey was pleased to see that he was correct in assuming that he would meet up with the friends he lost contact with long go.

With five somewhat familiar faces around her, Keira was a bit stunned. They had all seemed to have appeared rather suddenly and the door to the house hadn't opened yet - Maybe there's a key somewhere around here for us to let ourselves in, she thought. Just then, she noticed a key beneath her shoe and bent down to pick it up. She slipped it into her pillowcase with her pillow and looked around at the other four friends who had joined her outside the house.


Keira held up her invitation for everyone to see. "Was everyone here brought by this?" She announced, waving the invitation in the air. "I think I might have found our key to get into the house." She pocketed the invitation in her jeans and slipped the key out of her pillowcase, then fumbled with the lock for a moment until a click was heard and the door opened just a crack. Keira opened it the rest of the way and stepped in... It seemed safe enough, but no one seemed to be home. "I wonder if this is the right place..." Keira slipped off her shoes and continued further into the house, her rainbow-socked feet making gentle marks on the carpet.

"....Yea, sorry I really have to bail tonight, Mum wants me to help with the little ones nextdoor again." she said into the phone, her hand still holding the note that she found in her locker last period before going home. A cousin of hers was wanting to hook her up yet again with another of her friends. This one was extremely weird. But Nicki! Pleasssee, she can handle it by herself! She scoffed into the phone, "I really can't. I'll see you another time though, bye!" She said, pressing the end call button from her iPhone.


Standing, she went to the window. Should I go? she thought to herself, putting the note down, she grabbed her favorite camo duffle, placing various clothing items that she would need, making sure that she included a pair of extra strings for her guitar as well as a few picks as well. It'd be a miracle if I didn't leap at this chance. She smiled to herself, satisfied with her bag of essentials. Grabbing her guitar case, her keys, and the bag, she made her way out of the house, placing her keys in the ignition. Starting up her truck, she drove to the address with her favorite band (All Time Low) playing, singing along to "I feel like dancing" at the top of her lungs with a smile.


Parking at the house, she tilted her head at the ones that were already there, her eyes watering with excitement, quickly turning off her truck, she jumped out, running to the group, catching the familiar faces in a hug filled with giggles. "I had no idea!! Who set this up!? And who's house is this?" She asked with her usual goofy grin, remembering where she had left her other things in the cab of her truck.

Jacob slides the last note under Nicole's Locker "I hope this works" He thinks to himself. Ever since the "group" stopped hanging out Jacob has felt like theres a sort of hole in his heart. He wasnt very good at making friends.


The Last bell of the day had rung and all he could think about was if anyone would show up "Was my letter to creepy?" He thinks to himself. After arriving at home he thought he would quickly watch a bit of the e3 Live stream before getting ready to greet his old friends, if they decided to show up of course. "maybe ill take a quick nap aswell" He thought to himself.


It's 6:41PM when he wakes up. "Shit!" he says to himself, He can hear voices coming from the Hall. He jumps out of bed and races downstairs.


"Ah! You all made it!" He says Smiling Widely as he walks down the stairs.
 
"Hey Jacob. Long time no see!" Miki says, giving a warm smile. She clutched her case tight because of her nerves. One the gang had disbanded, she had been bullied to the ends of the earth. She hated it. "So, why are all of us here? Not to be rude or anything." Miki said.
 

"Man, this is like a blast from the past." He said, smiling as he looked between each of them, before watching Kiera open the door. Upon the realization of whose amazing mansion it was, he exclaimed. "Look who it is!" Of course, a look of utter bewilderment fell upon his features. Why now? Why did Jacob feel the need to have them all gather together at this specific point in time?


He chuckled, raising a hand up to his lips as he shook his head slightly from side to side. "Should have figured it was you who gathered us all together." And with that, a thought shot through his mind like a bullet being shot. Aubrey hadn't properly greeted everyone upon ariving in the first place. So, he specifically stopped and said. "Uhhh. By the way guys, hi!" This was before he traveled from person to person, giving each one a hug. He finished with Jacob, before returning back to where he was standing. He readjusted the backpack via the strap around his right shoulder before he awaited being told where to put his stuff down.

Seeing them all, she just couldn't contain her excitement, holding up her hands, she backed away, breaking into a run to get her stuff and she came back, sliding her things into the living room. Turning around, she tackled Jacob in a hug, "Oh my Jesus!!!! You did this?" She said beaming at all of them, you could see slight wetness in the corner of her eyes, which she hurriedly wiped away, acting as if nothing happened. She held her hands intertwined right below her chin, oozing happiness, taking Aubrey into a hug as it was offered to her, but keeping her eyes on Jacob, waiting for an explanation.

Slightly embarrased by all the attention he was getting and after almost being crushed by Nicole's hug, Jacob replied "Um, well uh, We never talk anymore guys! what happened?" Jacob said looking at each of them. Jacob looked at Aubrey and said "Oh hey man, you can put your stuff in the living room" He said and then turned back to the group "Cause that's where we'll be chilling out tonight!"
 
Miki nodded solemnly. She carried her small bag and her violin case into the room. She was very weary that her case was covered in a large anime drawing, as well as her bag, and a lot of the stuff she brought. She set her stuff down and opened up her case and took out her violin. She played a few measures to calm herself, then did a bit of pizzicato, trying to release stress.
 
Smiling at James (is it James or Jacob, I got so ridiculously confused there for a sec) she turned to where Miki was playing her violin, she really missed all of them, it just wasn't the same anymore without them. She then turned her head to look at each of them individually, everyone had changed so much. James' hair was a rad looking purple, Keira was still the shortest of them all, Aubrey looked pretty built now, Miki herself looked nervous and a bit underweight, and Fleet and James were nearly the same height! Both of them towered over the rest of the group.


Moving to the living room with a smile, she undid the fastenings on her guitar case, and retrieved her guitar and capo from the case, admiring Miki as she played. Violin was an extremely hard instrument to play, and pizzicato was a nice piece. She had never been so reserved before, she continued to wonder what exactly was up with her friend.
 
Miki watched all of the others as she played. She watched the way they looked at her. She knew that the only reason for that would be because she was somehow not good enough. She never was. All the jokes, the lies, the hatred just made her want to cry. She didn't hurt herself, heavens no. She as defiantly not to blame. It was there fault, yet somehow, if she never said much, never told them off, they just went away. She sighed and continued playing.
 
Fleet ruffled his hair in surprise as he saw Jacob come down the hall with his new wild purple hair, a smile spreading across his face. He laughed to himself for a second, accepting Aubrey's hug as it came. For a second, he was as vibrant a spirit and held as much of a presence as some of his friends had seemed to acquire, and as he took note of this, he made an effort to dull himself back down.


He followed the others to the room. He slid the guitar from his back carefully and set it in the corner, guarding it with his bag. He looked over his shoulder to see a very thin and nervous Miki plucking the strings of her violin in the living room. It had been so long that he had almost forgotten she played the violin. She had actually been quite good at it, but right now, there was something weird about the way she was playing, something different. He started to reach out for her arm as a gesture of comfort, but pulled it away quickly, concerned. "Hey, Miki?" He cleared his throat a bit before continuing quietly, "Are you alright?" It sort of sucked to see her changed so negatively in comparison with the others, who had taken a more positive turn, and deep down he felt a blow. Why did they stop talking, anyway? Hadn't they promised to always stick up for one another? What had made that disappear? He sighed slightly, not out of exasperation or anger, but of - of - some unknown feeling, one he couldn't put into words; some mixture of confused and disappointed and hopeful and merciful.
 
Miki took the violin off her shoulder, looking at Fleet. She smiled the best she could. "I'm fine." Miki said. Lies. She never was fine. She never would be. Miki put her violin away in it's case and stood. She tucked the rest of her stuff into a small corner and went to go sit on the couch. She sat up completely strait, trying to seem as normal as possible. 
She struggled to find a way to break the silence. "So, what's up with everyone?" Miki asked, trying to ease the tension.
 
"I appreciate it, man." He responded, bringing his stuff to the living room and placing it in one of the corners. It wasn't much, but it was definitely sufficient for the night. Putting both hands through his hair, he stretched slughtly before finding his seat on the couch, leaving a space between him and Miki. When she asked how everyone was doing, Aubrey waited for someone to respond - yet, no one did. Not wanting for this to be awkward, considering it was originally intended not to be, he parted his lips to speak first.


"Work, work, work. Aside from that, been tryna keep my grades up before I graduate! I don't want to fall behind before. They make it so easy though." He chuckled slightly, shrugging in the process.

The thought of someone struggling to keep their grades up had never fazed her - She had always thought all of her friends were so smart that they wouldn't need to worry about something like that. "I-If you wanted, I could help you, Aubrey," Keira said with a smile. "Study, I mean. I'm on the honor roll and I keep all of my notes for all of my classes, so if you wanted, I could give you them - Or I could help you with your homework, or something, if you needed it."


"So, what's up with everyone?"


"Not very much," Keira sighed. She hadn't gone to any parties, she hadn't gotten a boyfriend, she hadn't met anyone new and she definitely hadn't had any fun in high school, like she was told she would. "The best years of my life aren't turning out to be fantastic, like I hoped."

"Well me neither..." Said Miki trailing off. She still remembers the bruises, the scars, the pain. She stiffens and try's to hold in her tears as her mind dawns upon these awful memories. She grips the fabric of her pants tightly, trying to ease the pain once more, with failure. Miki took in a sharp breath and lifted her head, all of the tears gone.
 
"I would definitely appreciate that, thank you." The corners of his lips turned up as he looked over to Keira. "I've been having less difficulty than just making myself do it, but there are some things that i'm for sure having problems getting. Mostly math, like always." He shrugged, listening to Keira speak about her experiences in high school before looking at Miki. "We're not at the best years, yet. College." Nodding his head, Aubrey would continue. "A lot of people think high school is awful. You're not the only ones. Time moves on, and it'll all get better. Don't forget, we're all working toward something he haven't gotten close to achieving yet. This isn't all life has to offer."

"So, what's up with everyone?"


Fleet took a moment to listen to all his friends reply. He rolled his eyes sympathetically at Aubrey's mention of poor grades. He'd never been really great at school himself; while he wasn't particularly idiotic he had never had the capacity for knowledge like his friends had. It was a surprise to him to hear that Aubrey, who he had always regarded as a really smart kid, wasn't doing so hot in math these days. In a twisted, ashamed sort of way, he was relieved. There was still a trace of competition there, even though they had all stopped seeing each other some time before.


He stopped for a second after Aubrey's second comment about how life was going to get better. He glanced at Keira, as the words had seemed to be directed at her, and waited for a response. Of course, it wasn't like him to be the one to provide it. He was more the type to observe.
 
"Not much, Just school and stuff" Jacob replied to Fleet. "Anything exciting happen with any of you guys" He asked the group. Everyone had changed so much and he was surprised with some of the problems that his old friends were having now.
 
"Nothing really." Miki said, her hands tightening on the fabric of her pants. "Just playing violin and such." she aid, smiling. The soul behind her eyes was fading, yearning to be set free. But they would just laugh. Like all the rest. she swallowed and tried to cover up what was on the inside @Braxnond , @suzumiya42 ,

Did Aubrey just give me a pep talk? Keira asked herself mentally, her cheeks slowly turning bright red. Does he care about me enough to do that...? Her eyes drifted around the room at everyone else - Oh, he was talking to everyone else, too... Maybe he wasn't noticing me specifically, but everyone.


Y-Yeah, that has to be it...


"Um, just out of curiosity, where are we all going to sleep?" Keira asked, her cheeks still bright red from the thought of special attention from a guy, even though it probably wasn't special attention.

Miki smiled as the others talked. She was doing a good job hiding her inside fears. Or at the least so she thought. She sighed and turned to Fleet. He was a couple of inches taller than her. He had grown a lot. She had grown to, but that had only made matters worse. She sighed again, looking down. She would have fallen for him the easiest back in the day, but who could love someone like her?
