Freeform Low Fantasy Nation RP

I'll have mine written up before the end of the night, I have way to much free time

Official Handle: The Kingdom of Caldania

Colloquial Names: Caldania

Demonym: Caldanians

Flag: <p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_04/sketch-1459923622793.png.ec366ae695b967517698fd03253befb2.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="116610" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_04/sketch-1459923622793.png.ec366ae695b967517698fd03253befb2.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Capital: Alderan, home of King Leon the III, Largest City in Caldania

Government and Ideology:The Kingship remains within the Royal Family, the oldest son being the one to take control after their father dies. There have only been three instances of a daughter taking control of the throne, all three of which led to golden era's. The King has no limit on his power, leading to either a generous King, or an evil one.

Society: The people of Caldania do not have a formal religion, instead practicing their own if they wish to. Because of this the people have no true day of rest, but instead use the day that their religion believes is holy.

History: The people of Caldania were once a set of tribes under an alliance, over time these tribes united to form the Kingdom. Caldania has always been a somewhat peaceful country, making it seem as more of a merchant kingdom it does, however, possess a powerful army. It has recently faced a great plague that wiped out 75% of its population. Of its remaining citizens, only 25,000 are in the military.

Economy: Uses the “Doublet” a coin made of copper. Most items cost less than twenty doublets, disregarding most luxuries and weapons/armor. The government has taken up a series of taxes, usually quite low, to fund itself.

Population: 2 million

Major Industries: A major producer of silk and wine. It also has several bladesmiths of great magnitude.

This was annoying to do on my phone

I may be a little later with that CS than I expected. It seems I've bitten off more than I can chew RP wise, and I've got some real life stuff coming up. I'm still interested but if you guys wanna start without me that's fine.

Good luck with everything
Thanks. It's nothing bad, I'll just be busy this weekend is all. I might have it up today or Friday. Who knows?

I'm also interested, is this roleplay still going to happen? (or is it already happening and if so, can I still join?)

I intend to start the thread once I have a few nations posted, so that I know there's enough to get things going. Currently I've gotten one in, if I get 2-3 more, I'll start building up a thread. So... Yes, I certainly hope to get this going, as long as the interest is still there.

I'm going to start on mine in a few then. A few questions before I start though:

- Early gunpowder tech, yay or nay? (I mean those huge ass inefficient cannons from the late middle ages)

- Can I make my own religion or is there a list of setting specific religions to choose from? (both are fine, just want to know the answer :) )

- Are fictional resources a thing? (Since it's a different planet than earth)

Early gunpowder tech is a no (I'm afraid), although I know what you mean by early gunpowder, 14th and 15th century European stuff, but broadly speaking, I'm looking at 9-13th century levels of technology here.

You can absolutely make your own religion. I have a list for those interested or who want to stick to the setting as written.

Fictional resources are... Sort of, a thing. There's something known (language dependant, of course), as Gaiasteel, which refers to metals salvaged from the ruins of old colonial vessels, research facilities and so on. These aren't all the same material, however the fact that they have similar sources sees them categorised together. This includes a variety of modern and futuristic alloys, and can general be labelled as 'superior in some way', and 'requiring expert smithing to use'. Other than that, any fictional resources... I'll introduce during play, as appropriate.

Official Handle: The Kingdom of Junghani

Colloquial Names: Junghani, Junghanis

Demonym: Junghanian

Flag:

<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_04/Junghani.png.7ee7b0da85329d02779827de2c3b8bfa.png" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="117969" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2016_04/Junghani.png.7ee7b0da85329d02779827de2c3b8bfa.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Capital: Junghanis ~ Residence of the King, Second Largest City in Junghani

Government and Ideology:

The Kingdom of Junghani is ruled by the men and women of the Istalos bloodline who've ruled the kingdom for many generations through great growth and prosperity. The current king is Eliph II Istalos who has a strong backing from the temple caste. Under the king is a council of lords, high priests and merchant patriarchs. They advice the king and take care of small matters in the kingdom. They also have the power to vote a king from the throne if more than two-thirds of the council votes against the king, this prevents tyrants from staying in power for too long. The rest of the country is run in a strong feudal matter.

Society:

The primary culture in Junghani is the Junghanian culture, but there is also a portion of immigrants and the remaining people from Eldveni. The Junghani do not have a clear culture as they adapt quite some cultural traits from other cultures. Junghanians are usually out to make profit and some of them are ambitious enough to go over corpses for it. They are also a people of religious zeal to their belief in Ravecal and frown on unbelievers in their country. The religion behind Ravecal is called Ravecalism and it is a religion of unity and superiority, believers will deem themselves more worthy than others who don't believe and the zealots tend to go too far with that. The Eldvenians are the remains of the population of former Eldveni, a country that was simply wiped off the world for its mineral riches. Most of the Eldvenians reside in other countries. The country has a military force of about 120.000 trained soldiers.

History:

As long as the people of Junghani can remember their nation has existed. The Istalos family has always ruled the kingdom and society has always been the same. Junghani did attack a neighboring country named Eldveni for its resources and after that focused their attention on expanding their population and wealth. Recently zealous temple warrior orders have been sprouting up and swearing allegiance to the king and the temple.

Economy:

The currency of Junghani is the Jath, a small coin made out of silver. The economy of Junghani mostly consists of trade between countries and the export of its major resources. The gathering of Gaiasteel is also part of the economy since the crown buys any valid Gaiasteel that people manage to find. The crown receives its income from taxes which are being paid by the lord, peasants and burghers of the nation, tariffs on import, export and simply all trade and temple tax.

Population: 8 million. (94% Junghani, 3% Eldveni, 3% misc.)

Major Industries: Junghani thrives from the production of Weapons, Fabric, Lumber, Metals and Mead.

Dropping in to remind people I (and hopefully others) am/are not dead. And Junghani looks good. Did you have any preferences as to where in the world the kingdom is? I'd also recommend talking to other players about the possibility of shared history, particular with regards to Eldveni, since you say they've moved elsewhere.

I'm very interested since this takes elements of some futuristic stuff for history. In that case are their few machinery a working remaining somewhere lost? And how advance has magic progressed?

I actually had a place staked out where I would like it to have and the borders I had in mind. (If it's too big of a claim I wouldn't mind losing some ground in the west of my proposed kingdom :) )

Red would be the borders of the kingdom and yellow are the borders of the former kingdom of Eldveni. Shared history would certainly be a thing with nations east of Junghani since most of the Eldveni population fled during the war and would've most likely settled in the neighboring states rather than to return to the country they lost.

Sorry! Life has been hectic, but I should have time for this. Character sheet will def be up by Monday!

I will probably shrink that down a bit, yes, Duke. We'll see when I've got some more in. @Dest, did you have a location in mind?

And @general ostruppen, working pieces of past technology should be non-existent, they mostly exist as artefacts, ruins, salvageable materials. Magic is incredibly mercurial and poorly understood, surrounded by much superstition and uncertainty. Most mages never learn more than one or two spells, and the spells they learn are often unique and personal to them - but tend to revolve around manipulating living things in some way.

Not really, just stick me where there's some empty space around me to signify the territory I had before the plague.

I am in, and I see that I can use the Shattered Sea Trilogy as an inspiration, since it too goes the futuristic-medieval age route, although with magic in it.

This will be my first nation-building RP. I like the concept a lot.
