Forced Pair

'Thank-you!' Farlow called out to Sophie as she left the room. It was large. Very large. There was the occasional ladder placed against a bookshelf, allowing for access to the books in the more higher places. Another nice feature of the library that Farlow noticed was how everything seemed to be labeled. There was the normal "fiction" and "nonfiction", and then there were more exotic labels like "quantum physics" (which Farlow avoided, deeply curious as why Sophie and her father would ever read a book on such a topic).

Choosing a book on the history of printing (for it was a topic that Farlow was actually interested in). However, the book that Farlow had located was high up, near the top of one of the bookshelves. And then it wasn't. It was flying through the air, twirling around, the pages fluttering in a nonexistent breeze. And then the book was on Farlow's lap, for he was now sitting at a table. And then he began to read, waiting for Scarlett to return.

Scarlett quickly went back to her room. She had to finish taking her stuff out, after all. Plus, it would help her get her mind off of the fact her mother was still in the hospital. She couldn't appear weak and sad in front of Farlow, or anyone else. Although independent and strong, Scarlett could be quite sensitive sometimes. Just like previous times, she fought back tears after returning from seeing her mother. And so, Scarlett opened the door to her huge room. Quickly, she unpacked everything so that her room looked just like it did before moving to the university dorms. For a while, she thought about her future. Now that she had graduated, she needed to find a job. Ideally, the girl would like to work in a hospital or research facility. Quickly though, Scarlett shook the thoughts off of her head and finished her packing.

And so, after about half an hour, Scarlett made her way back to the library. She had some books she wanted to read, after all. Once she opened the door, Scarlett looked at Farlow. "How did you like it?"

Farlow looked up from his book when Scarlett entered and asked him how he was enjoying the library. A grin split his face and he beamed at her, feeling genuinely happy for the first time since being with Scarlett. Sure, Farlow had been happy before that, but he was feeling happier than ever at the current time. 'I really do like it,' he said, closing the book properly without dog-earing any of the pages or placing in a position that would break the spin. Books deserved respect. And then a question struck Farlow.

'Do you know how many books are in here?' He questioned, standing up and moving over to the ladder to put the book away. He wasn't going to use his telekinesis in front of Scarlett here, for she didn't know he had it (as far as he knew). 'Since, this is pretty big when compared to libraries in normal houses and such,' Farlow yelled down, for he was now half-way up the ladder. 'And then again, normal houses don't even have libraries. They are more just like bookcases.'

The fact that Farlow was so happy made Scarlett happy. There was something about his smile that made her feel joyful. And so, for the first time all day, Scarlett smiled warmly. Just like her mother had in the hospital bed. When Scarlett did this, the resemblance with her mother was pretty obvious. "I'm glad. Father made sure to get as many books as he could for Mother. Even the scientific magazines and college textbooks were picked with Mother in mind." Although fragile now, her mother was one of the most intelligent people Scarlett had met. It must be Sarah's genetics inside of Scarlett, because the girl really liked to read such stuff as well.

And so, Scarlett listened to him as he began to put the book back. She found it funny how he tried to explain what a normal house was like when it came to literature. "Don't worry, this spoiled brat knows what I normal house is like." The girl said with a slight chuckle. The fact was that they weren't always this rich. If anything, they were getting closer to poverty as the years passed. "Hmm.....I would say....about 20 thousand books? It actually has more than the public library in the city. Which is why father made it so that anyone could come and read the books here. When mother is not here, obviously. So, don't be surprised if a random stranger appears out of nowhere and starts reading."

That was news to Farlow. It seemed rather off, though. Why on earth would Scarlett's father let random people walk into their house? Farlow could understand that he was being generous, but it just seemed strange that he would let such a thing happen, particularly now, due to the threats that he had been receiving regarding the stealing of his daughter. And more books than the public library? Farlow was impressed. He did work there, after all, and had never heard of this whole idea until Scarlett told him, so how did the people of the city know? Strange.

'I won't,' Farlow said with a shaky laugh. 'Anyway, apparently your father wishes for me to stay here. So I've been told, anyway,' he informed her, his voice becoming calm as he spoke regarding the matter. 'I can only assume that is because he wishes for me to be near you at all times. I'm going to assume there is a guest room around here?' Farlow asked, using his telekinesis on the door, causing it to swing open. He was aloud to have some fun at times, and he didn't see Scarlett notice it, which was a shame, for he was rather hoping that she'd react in some way.

OOC: Btw, when did we agree she was going to get kidnapped?

Yeah, it sounded just like her father to ask Farlow to stay at her home. Scareltt knew this was for the better. Knew that getting kidnapped would be a terrible thing. However, she also knew that she didn't appreciate someone following her around all day. Plus, the fact that he was staying here just made it harder to explain to her mother. But there was nothing the girl could do. He wouldn't go away and there was no way she could go against her father. "Yeah, no surprise there." She said with a sigh. "Yes, we have a guest room. Your stuff is probably there already. Want me to call a maid so she can show you?" The girl asked. Not only did she not know where his room was, but she had also come to read some stuff.

And then she heard the door open. Although Scarlett was slightly surprised, she did not look back on it. It had just been a breeze, right?

Farlow bit his lip in an effort to prevent from snorting as Scarlett seemed to look slightly surprised in response to the door being "opened". But then again, maybe Farlow was imagining it, and he stop trying to prevent the laughter at risk of looking very, very strange to Scarlett, whom he doubted was in on his secret. Obviously she'd find out in the future, but at what time? Farlow didn't know, much like how he didn't know of her reaction. She could be horrified and never come near him again (which would be really rather problematic, given the job he had to do regarding her) or she'd find it mildly interesting, or hugely interesting. One of the three. Farlow just hoped that when she found it, it wasn't the first reaction.

'Yes please, would you be able to call a maid?' Farlow asked, closing the door with his mind.

Scarlett nodded and went over to a wall. She pressed a random tile to reveal a screen with several keys. Even a panel for fingerprint detection. The girl quickly pressed a button and then closed the panel so that it went back to looking like a normal tile. Although it was risky to get random people in the library, the house was well secured. The whole side that was the library could be sealed off the house. Plus, a face recognition software automatically scanned anyone and pulled up a background of that person. The family was in no danger. And so, after a few seconds, a maid quickly knocked on the closed door. Funny, she could have sworn the door was open a moment ago.

And so, the maid approached Farlow and asked him to follow her. Meanwhile, Scarlett went over to the fiction section and grabbed a random book. Then, she proceeded to sit down and begin reading.

Farlow followed the maid down the hallway and into the main area of the house, where he then had to continue following her up a flight of stairs and along yet another hallway, to where she showed him a door. With a small smile, the maid vanished back down the hallway, leaving Farlow to open the door to the room himself, revealing a room that looked to have a fairly standard room size-maybe slightly larger than average-with a large double bed in the middle, with a simple duvet that series of different coloured lines running across it. The lines were various shades of aqua blue and a light brown, even though the main colour of the duvet was white. It was all very modern, much like the rest of the house. In one corner, Farlow's bags rested, sitting there. A suitcase and separate bag. They were indeed his. Someone had removed them from his car, no doubt. He wasn't sure what to think of that.

Sitting down on the edge of the bed, Farlow began to think about his job currently. What was going to happen? How long would it last? And then, he wondered if Scarlett would come looking for his room. He was sure she'd know where it was. He'd give her some time to come though. If she didn't Farlow would have to go and look her himself. Which might be a problem in this house, given how large it was.

Scarlett, once she sat down in the chair and began to read, looked extremely happy. Reading had always brought the good side of her. And so, that's what the young girl continued to do. However, in between paragraphs, she would stop to think of her situation. She was scared, but could not show it to anyone. Her father would worry, her mother would simply be carrying extra stress and she was way too proud to say such a thing to Farlow. And yet, despite her fears, Scarlett still didn't want a bodyguard. If no one had hurt her so far, why would they hurt her now? Plus, the company had been successful for years now. Why bring a sudden threat now? It had to be a fake so that her father would stop production. No one was going to kidnap her.

And so, after quite a while, Scarlett started to walk back to her own room. Which, knowing her father, would probably be right next to Farlow's room. Of course, there were security cameras all over the house. In case Farlow thought he could get into Scarlett's room. It was a fair assumption, since the man didn't know Farlow personally. After finally entering her room, Scarlett brought out her laptop and started to check her e-mail. A pleasant surprise was waiting for her. It seemed like her professor had recommended the young woman for a position as a research assistant in the hospital where her mother resided. The young girl, upon seeing the e-mail, instantly replied to thank her professor. She was extremely happy. Her work started tomorrow and Scarlett had to make sure she looked professional. And she had to make sure to tell her bodyguard. With a sigh at having to tell him, the girl got up and knocked on his door.

Farlow sat upright when someone knocked on his door. He had been looking at the ground, in a daydream of sorts when he had been awoken from his "sleep", per say. While Farlow had been extremely tempted to open the door with his mind, but held back that urge at risk of the person being Scarlett. He highly suspected that he maids would have already been informed about his unusual talent, so he wasn't particularly concerned about them seeing him dancing books and lamps around his bedroom to the beat of Tequila, for instance.

Getting up and walking over to the door, Farlow opened with his hand, which to him, seemed fairly mundane and a rather boring way of doing it. Indeed, it was Scarlett there, standing outside of his door. 'Hi,' Farlow mumbled, opening the door fully. 'Come in, if you want,' he offered, moving away from the door and back to the bed to sit on its edge. 'Something happened?'

Scarlett came in, although not completely. Somehow, it felt wrong to be in a guy's room. When he asked her if something happened, she couldn't help but have a smile on her face. She was still not comfortable showing that much emotion in front of him, but these were good new. Excellent news. "I...got a job. One of my professors arranged an interview for a research assistant position in the hospital where mother is being treated." Truth was, Scarlett had been an almost excellent student. Sure, she had classes were her grades hadn't been perfect. However, she had also done plenty of undergraduate research. She was a good chemist and scientist. However, now came the part that wouldn't be too appealing for Farlow.

"I guess you would want to come with me, right? The problem is, I don't think you can be in the lab." The girl said, knowing they wouldn't allow a bodyguard to stand around and watch the experiments happen. Unless her father did something about it. Which he probably would. However, she had to let Farlow know of what might happen.

Farlow laughed at this news from Scarlett. 'I'd WANT to come with you?' He asked, finding humour in Scarlett's assumptions. 'Not really, but a job is a job, right?' Farlow asked her, not expecting an answer. In truth, Farlow wasn't looking forward to attending the hospital with Scarlett, for he would no doubt have to make up more poorly improvised stories regarding why he was there, either to Scarlett's mother or to the various nurses and doctors who wished to know why he was there without having a reason asides from the fact he needed to follow Scarlett around as his job.

'This is tomorrow, yes?' Farlow asked, curious.

Scarlett looked quite annoyed as he laughed at her choice of words. "Fine, I get it. You don't want to be here. Well, I don't want it either." The girl said. Truthfully, she wasn't sure what she was getting so mad at. The fact that he was laughing about the situation might have been it. Especially when they were talking about such an important job for her. The beginning for her life long dream. Then again, Scarlett could be too serious at times. Maybe she needed someone to laugh with. At the end, Scarlett sighed and looked back at Farlow.

"Yes. Tomorrow. I have the job interview, which means I need to go buy formal clothing. I'll be leaving in 10 minutes." Scarlett said, turned around and then left his room. Whether he was coming with her or not, she did not care. It was obvious he wanted to be around her constantly as much as she wanted him to follow her around.

'Tomorrow?' Farlow mumbled, repeating Scarlett's words. However, while the way he had said had made it sound very much like a question, he was simply repeating her words. The question was-why was it so soon after Scarlett had apparently graduated. Maybe Farlow was being rather protective-or paranoid-already, not even a day after starting his job, but it was just so soon and it didn't really seem right. Oh well.

'I guess I'll be coming with you on both occasions then,' Farlow said clearly now, standing up with a grin. He really didn't mind having to follow Scarlett around, even if she did seem to on occasion at like Daddy's Little Darling, which was something Farlow expected to become fairly grating in time. But by then, before it did, he suspected that Scarlett would have learned of his telekinesis and wouldn't really want to be pushing him that much and driving him over the metaphorical edge.

OOC: Sorry about the length. My head hurts.

"Do what you want." The girl said and quickly left his room. After going to her own, Scarlett got herself ready and was downstairs in about 10 minutes. Like she had said, Scarlett was to leave in 10 minutes. Although she was not sure Farlow would like to go shopping with her. The girl didn't really take long when it came to shopping with a purpose. Which, in this case, was what she was going to do.

OOC: 'Tis fine.

Farlow had progressed downstairs to wait for Scarlett, taking much of what she had said and running with it. He was all ready to go shopping with her. He had his wallet and that was it. Farlow was under the impression that he was to buy something on this little outing, if only to make it seem like the trip had been worthwhile, and not some silly little event in which he chased Scarlett around the shops, buying vast quantities of random assortments of fabrics, which, for Farlow, at very least, didn’t really seem like an idea of fun for him.

‘You seem to forget,’ he said with a grin as Scarlett descended the stairs, ‘that I’m your bodyguard. I don’t really get a choice in what I want to do. You’d do well to remember that.’

"Then you seem to forget that I didn't choose you to be here either. You'd do well to remember that as well." Scarlett said as she walked past him and into the driveway to get to her car. Maybe she was being too mean to Farlow. Then again, he had laughed when she told him about her job interview. It was such an important thing to Scarlett. The product of four, long, hard years of studying. Well, it didn't matter now. She just had to get some clothes before her father came home. When he did, Scarlett had quite a lot to talk to him about.

And so, she sat down in the driver's seat and waited for Farlow to get inside. Once he did, Scarlett started to drive to the mall. "This won't take long. I'm not a fan of wasting time when I only need certain things."

'Oh, yes, well, that is rather good to hear,' came Farlow's surprised response, following Scarlett destroying his expectations regarding the shopping and such. He really hadn't been expecting that. 'Well, I'm not really one for wasting time either,' he said, trying to nurture the conversation. As to whether it would start and take off, Farlow didn't really know, and couldn't really guess.

Farlow, looking out the window, noted that the area Scarlett lived in seemed to be rather wealthy. The houses were extravagant, the gardens large and blooming with stunning colours. While Farlow didn't live in a particularly unpleasant area, it was fairly standard, and paled in comparison to Scarlett's.

OOC: Sorry abut the post length. I'm really quite ill at the moment.

OOC: No problem. Sorry if this took a while. Stuck with a project and really sleepy. Thank god for coffee xD

Truthfully, Scarlett was glad. She wasn't the type of girl who would drag he boyfriend to go shopping with her. She could barely stand it herself. The young girl had to be in the mood to actually shop and look around. However, unless she had otherwise decided previously, the young chemist wasn't a fan of staying in a store for too long. Although she was subject to a little delay if she found something cute enough.

"I guess that's good. Although I'm guessing you'll be coming with me to the different stores. If so, then I'm making you give me your opinion."

Scarlett said with a jokingly tone. Truthfully, she was getting tired of being mean to the guy. Of course, that didn't mean that she wouldn't snap if he said something that pushed her buttons.

'Well, clothes shops, I'm assuming, yes?" Farlow asked, before tapping his nose with his index finger knowingly. Theo wasn't really bothered by shopping with other people. It was something that he had had to do frequently when he was a small child, and as such, quickly grew used to waiting around. But no matter. He wasn't going to be bothered about spending a little bit of time following around Scarlett through various clothes shops.

The car began to pull into a large, open car park. There were a few cars here and there, but it seemed surprisingly empty, given the time of day. No matter, really. Farlow wasn't too bothered by this. Instead, he sat down patiently and waited for Scarlett to find a suitable place to park.

OOC: Sorry this took so long. I just got some vacation xD

Scarlett nodded as she continued her driving. "Yes. More specifically, I need formal clothes." The girl said as she tried to find a parking space. "I don't think this is going to take too long. Would you like to look at any other stores? I don't have my interview until the afternoon tomorrow, so we should be able to take our time." Scarlett said, really not minding if Farlow wanted to see something. In fact, she felt kind of bad that he would have to follow her around and watch her try on clothes.

Finally, Scarlett found a parking space and shut off the car, quickly getting out and locking it once Farlow was out of the car as well.

OOC: I'm sorry about not getting a reply back sooner. This became lost in a flood of notifications I received.

Farlow eased himself out of the car, before stretching slightly, even though the ride in the car hadn't been particularly long by any definition of the word. Finding a space to park in seemed to have been the longest part of the trip. Oh well. That hadn't really bothered Farlow, since he was used to sitting down for long periods of time.

'No, I think I'll be fine, thanks,' Farlow said, replying to Scarlett's question. He wasn't really bothered by the fact that he had to follow her around. There were worse people in the world he could have to be following around. At least Scarlett was actually and interesting and fairly polite person. Farlow could have received someone much worse to follow around.
