First Age

Hey guys, was thinking about running a first age solar game.

Anyone got any helpfull ideas, or charms :)

I would love a first age map if anyone has one.

The setting will be at the end of the first age, the dragon bloods have just started to revolt with the siderials, the group will be a circle of solars, who are doing their best to fight back.

Thanks, will have a look, although anyone got a map? Would love one.

Also what are peoples thoughts, was thinking that starting characters would get twice all the starting stats, ie. essence 4 instead 2, attributes will be 16, 12, 8 instead of 8, 6, 4 etc.

Twice the bonus points and 2000 xp to start.

What you think?

 Uh....you don't have space for 16 points in a category...considering 12 gets you 5 in everything, and without essence 6, you can't go higher. Holy cow. I don't think I'd want to play in a game where you start out THAT godlike...but if you're an experienced First Age Solar, it's probably not completely out there. What I'd probably do if I wanted experienced characters is add 2 to the starting attributes (10/8/6) give 40 to put into abilities, 7 into virtues, 13 backgrounds 15 starting charms and 30 freebie points...and start 'em at a base essence of 3. But then I like lots of room to grow...even if the character's supposed to have a fair bit of experience. *shrugs* Donno. If you want to go with that, it could work, I suppose.

Doubling the bonus points is almost an insignificant bump, in the face of two thousand XP. Why bother?

Meh, why not, gotta remember this is the first age, they are going to be playing possibly the last ever solars, why not give them all the extras they want. Their enemies are getting the same, and there are far more of them.

The idea is that they are playing solars who have lived a long time, but still, think its a bad idea?

If I were you, I'd make it easier on everyone and just give them LOTS of bonus points. Skip XP altogether. That way, they don't have to deal with two different types of points/costs.

Less than 2,000, I guess, since bonus points go a  bit further. You might want to make a mock character at, say, 500 BP, and see how powerful it is, then go from there.

At the point of exaltation solars of the first age where no more powerful than the age of sorrows. They likely received better training however, use the cult o the illuminated as a guide, probably replacing the camp favored skills with a small number of extra background points. They by arifacts at the most favorable possible rate, manse at a comparable rate, allies represents those still loyal to you, have access to the backgrounds sorcery, arsenal, and almost anything else they want (usually not experience, inheritance or knowlage).

This would be a starting first age solar, after that just give them XP for there age. Se exalted 2ed p275

The difficulty is working out what extra backgrounds they should get over time, if there 1250 years old (2000xp) then the twilight will have built himself many interesting artifacts (including several NA), the dawn (and possibly others) will have a royal war strider with additional features (artifact NA, likely built by the party copper spider) and others will have acquired other such artifacts, many will be lost in the earliest acts of the usurpation, (you cant go back and get your artifacts from your primary estate without a huge fight) but solars at that time where paranoid so they would have some things hidden away. I would give each PC a free artifact or collection of artifacts with power comparable to a royal war strider with 3 subsystems (AI counts as a subsystem), GM discretion applies, this artifact, as well as any purchased threw the artifact background where with the PC or hidden with the up most paranoia, anything else they may have owned will need to be regained in game.

Mad gods fighting against the usurpers while at the height of their power?  At that point, honestly, you are past the point of needing or wanting the mechanics in the Exalted book.  Stop using them.

Give everyone some poker chips in various denominations, or Monopoly money, or whatever.  Set costs for doing various amazing things, and charge players an appropriate cost when they want to do something.  Because you are simply not going to be able to handle that level of detail and be fair about it.

Thanks for the tips Cat, was thinking that it would be a fairly political game, with the occasional epic fights, most of it will take place in Yu Shan, the last refuge of the solars, although there will be a couple of assassination attempts by the siddies up there, most likely.

I am going to consider that most Gods will be on the side of the Solars, for the moment, but don't want to get involved in the fight, unless they are forced to. Like the idea that the PC's can have a large amount of artifacts but that some will be located in their respective manses, which will be heavily guarded, although with an Essence 8 or 9 Night caste that shouldn't be too much of a problem ;p

I don't think its going to be too unfair to use the system rules, as any fights that take place will be against very high essence DB's and Siddies, Extras will be considered Essence 2 or 3, with mortal being a near blip on the radar.

Was told by Samiel that there is a First Age map done by someone on the forum, anyone know where I can find that.

I can see myself needing much medication when this game starts, their power is going to be ridiculous, but thats the way solars were.

My NPC's are just going to have to be crafty as hell.

The idea I have so far is that it will take place just before the usurpation, there will be a few sessions where they will be sent on a couple of "peacekeeping" or Political missions by the solar council, then the s**t will hit the fan.

I know this is probably something you don't want to hear, since you haven't even started this campaign but it would be kind of cool if, in the next game you run - provided it's in the 2nd Age - the players played the reincarnations of their current characters......
