Any advice on finding character images?

Deviant Art can be a treasure trove for finding character images. I do caution to ask the artist for permission, however, as the images do belong to said artist. Tumblr and pixiv are other sources I've used before.

Google and tumblr. Just make sure you know what you want, too vague and the results are not so good

The various *boorus are VERY good - can search by tag (sword, 1girl, magic, dragon, angel, wings, etc etc) or by character (Elsa, Hulk, Gilgamesh, Archer, etc) or both, blacklist tags you don't like/don't want (android -metal_gear_revengeance will find androids that AREN'T from that game)... they're my primary source. The real question is which you use; Danbooru, Gelbooru, Safebooru, and sankakucomplex all work similarly. All include NSFW content save Safebooru though, as fair warning. If you don't care about seeing some boobs then I recommend Danbooru as generally having the highest quality pics (they have quality controls that the others... lack to a degree) and usually updates with new stuff the fastest, but Safebooru is the obvious go-to if you want solely SFW character pics.
4chan (yeah yeah) has a few boards that work great for this. /tg/ has character pic topics often (LOT of good stuff there), /c/ and /cm/ have female and male characters respectively, and there are other boards of varying quality.
Pixiv is Japanese so have fun navigating it without a working understanding of the language, but it has an obscene amount of content, a robust tags system (again, japanese, but google translate can help if you don't speak moon runes), and allows certain kinds of content that some of the *boorus don't (comics, non-japanese stuff, etc).

Use the term Face claims! You can find them all over tumblr and devian art. Find someone (Or in an anime case) a character you like and just use the link to there picture! :3
