the plot.
Everything that has a life has a soul. From the hounds that help you hunt, to the rats that thieve in the night, to the dragons that hide in caves, to you.
Everything with a life has a purpose. The instinctive answer to what that entails is to reproduce—and, you need at least one other life for that act.
Everything that has a life has a soul, and a life needs a life. So, therefore, a soul needs a soul. A soul will always be entwined with another, in its past life, in its current, and in its future. Quite literally are these connected souls made for each other, bound by a seal of destiny.
...but, destiny is not inherently kind.
Conamen, as they are called, have a very permanent defining factor, something like a prophecy: connected souls will either bring about each other's complete and utter happiness, or a painful and cruel demise.
In each life, the answer to which one it may be will always vary; but, by the time one gets their answer, it will be too late. Their fate will already be sealed.
That's neither here nor there, though! Who in the world needs to hear about conamen yet again? Definitely not you. We are here today to express our excitement of society's growth. Hurray!
The Week of Unity, an annual celebration of peace and harmony, will be commencing in just one moon's time. Butelahn, as they have been for over a century, will be hosting our week-long event. It is an open invitation; commoners, nobles, and royals from all over the land are encouraged to attend and excitably live up to our ancestors' hopes of unity, especially in such a modern and excitable era.
Technological advances have been booming lately, and society has been graced with the works of hard earned inventions such as the watermill, spectacles, and toilets! And, gosh, don't we all love toilets? How could you not want to celebrate toilets?
The announcement of the accepted students who applied to the Noble Tutoring Academy of Advanced Education will also be released upon the last night of celebration, handpicked by Butelahn's most prestigious educators that will be leading said incoming class.
All who plan to attend may be rest assured that this joyous event will be secured heavily by the palace. The Crown is fully aware of the rising rumors, and will be taking precautions to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We hope to see you there! Maybe this will be your first brush with fate...

plot extended
Hello! Thank you so much for your interest in Fate That Bleeds!
Now, you know the general world and the events driving the rp, but it's time for you to know your possible characters' roles and how this will all function.
This is a fantasy and medieval plot driven rp, meaning there is a direct conflict and goal that the characters will be pursuing together. It takes place in the kingdom of Butelahn. Characters will mostly be students of the incoming accepted class of Noble Tutoring Academy of Advanced Education, an extremely small academy based on teaching extremely bright and competent minds to prepare them for a successful future.
Still, the majority of those students who are "bright" and "competent" are just nobles and royals born into a high status. It is an extremely prestigious academy, with courses in history, writing, leadership, etiquette, and everything an adult should know in the world of elites. There may be commoners who are accepted, but because they showed extreme potential in intelligence and rising of status (or any other justifiable reason you can think of; feel free to consult the GM's for help!). Those will more or less be charity cases; those of high status will be accepted into the academy with the most mediocre of brains and abilities, but those of lower status would have to be the cream of crop—or, at least perceived that way.
However, the academy is only serving as a way for all of our characters to be connected for convenience purposes. The actual plot has little to do with their education. If you don't want your character to be a student for whatever reason, that's totally okay! Just know that you must come up with ways for them to stay connected with the other cast members, and for foreign characters, must also justify their stay in Butelahn past the Week of Unity.
A huge mystery is what will be driving the plot of the rp. What it is will be for you and your characters to find out as we go along, lead by the GM's of the roleplay to describe the events and settings, and possibly drop clues. There will also be some action as well, although it won't play as a big a role as the drama and mystery focus, and this will only come up the closer you guys get to finding the truth.
This rp will also be open world. The plot and setting will be centered around the decisions your characters make—meaning, they can choose to not be involved in the mystery and just enjoy life in medieval times with their conamin! GM's will make replies based on your character's actions if they are relevant to the plot, so quite literally do you get to choose your story. This also is to allow more creative freedoms and flexibility if you want to enjoy the many different options about the world, as there is an unlimited character count, and therefore unlimited character choices.
A lot of reading will be required. Please read every section in the interest check thoroughly, as well as the lore page. Thank you once again for your interest in Fate that Bleeds, and we can't wait to have you join! If you have read this far, please include your preferred pronouns in your application ("any", "prefer not to share", etc are completely acceptable answers).
setting extended
This rp will be taking place in a fantasy medieval setting. The country of Butelahn is where everything will be going down, so knowing the lore is extremely important—this will be found only on the lore page for organization purposes. There is no such thing as magic or creatures other than humans and regular animals. The only fantasy element of the story are conamen.
The rp will also mostly be centered around noble society due to the nature of the prestigious academy, but as this will be driven by your characters, should there be a pull to the commoners, the GM's will also be lead there.
If you want your character to be from a different country, by all means, go for it! We don't have any lore for the world aside from basic overall history, so as long as it doesn't contradict what is canon, we encourage making your own country and even lore if you wish. Elaboration will also be on the lore page.
on conamen
Conamen is a plural term used for people that are bound by the thread. The singular is conamin.
The concept of conamen is that everyone has someone they are linked to; similar to soulmates, except there is a catch: while there is a chance for them to bring about your absolute happiness, they can also bring about your absolute demise. It is unknown how likely each scenario is.
Because of this, kingdoms either have a poor overall view on soulmates, or a somewhat neutral one. Individuals may have a positive one with the right justification, but the majority of a country will never be positive due to the nature of conamen.
Now, these connections are made by the souls rather than the person. This means that reincarnation exists, and in your past life, you were connected to the same person, just in different bodies. If you've read this far, please say dumptruck when you enter the discord. This also means that you will continue to be connected in your next life. How long it takes for someone reincarnate after death is pretty random; it can take one day or a hundred years. The only requirement is that your conamin must also have died. This doesn't mean you will be reincarnated at the same time, but between us, it is canon that conamen will never have more than a ten year age gap.
These links are showed by a thin, yet indestructible red string that only the wearers can see. No one can see or feel a string that isn't their own. Also, while you can feel the string, nothing else can. The string will essentially go through any object, person, etc besides your finger. This includes your other body parts, so you don't have to worry about your character being strangled accidentally by making the wrong move.
However, not everyone will get to see their thread. They only appear when your soulmate is in reasonable proximity, and sometimes, your soulmate isn't born yet—that includes their soul. In a century, the Earth will be more populated than it is now, and there will be inherently more souls than in the past. This means that, sometimes, your conamin's soul won't be made until some time in the future—and this doesn't even touch on scenarios when conamen just never end up crossing one another's path.
Still, it is always only a matter a time before you meet, no matter how many life times it takes.
characters
Although we are trying to leave as much creative space as possible for you and your characters, there will inherently have to be some restrictions for fairness, efficiency, and fluidity. If you want to do something with your character that might contradict one of these rules, feel free to open a discussion! We're here to make this fun for everyone, so no matter the outcome, we want a space where everyone feels comfortable discussing and making suggestions.
In no particular order:
All characters must be human.
Characters must be at least 18 years old in age.
Players may only have a max of two characters part of a royal family (extended family does not apply).
Only GM's may have characters part of Butelahn royalty (extended family does not apply).
Only polyamorous characters may have more than one thread. All characters they are connected to must also be polyamorous and connected to one another.
All characters from Butelahn and any other country with poor views on conamen must also have a poor view on conamen, unless there is valid justification previously approved by GM's.
Not exactly a rule, but just know that characters don't necessarily have to have a romance with whoever they are connected to!
Your character can't have it all. They cannot be talented at everything. or all knowing. No Mary/Gary Sues; a character's shortcomings should have some proportionality to their strengths.
Try to be sensible with character backstories. Try to avoid preposterous scenarios, offensive stereotypes and overly gratuitous suffering.

the rules.
1.
All RPNation rules and regulations apply, including on the ooc chat.
2.
All players must post 2-3 times a week. If you know you have a busy schedule or tend to leave sporadically for an extended period of time for whatever reason, please don't join. This roleplay is plot driven and therefore heavily based on the replies of its members. If emergency or life things in general come up, we completely understand, and will work around that together--but only if you know they don't happen often enough to interrupt the post minimum consistently.
3.
If you have any triggers, please include them on your character sheet. If you don't have any, you must express this. Every single trigger is valid and will be taken into account. If you are uncomfortable sharing it publicly, you may DM one of the GM's and we will enforce it ourselves. However, just know that if your trigger(s) is not known to other players, they will not know what to avoid and warn for when roleplaying with you. That said, the main plot of this roleplay involves gore. Please do not pursue the mystery with your characters if this will affect you in any way.
4.
You must join the discord to be part of the rp. We understand that this might be uncomfortable, but it's for planning purposes, and planning is a huge part of the roleplay. The discord is purely for ooc chatting, and the roleplay will still take place on RPNation.
5.
This is not a first come first serve; characters must be accepted (but feel free to join the discord beforehand!) after submitting a character sheet before joining the roleplay. If your character is rejected, we will specify why. Everyone has unlimited chances to apply.
6.
This is a literate roleplay. Proper grammar and a minimum of five sentences is required for every post. Feel free to ask us for help if you have difficulty meeting this requirement!
7.
Bigotry of any sort is not tolerated. This also applies to "jokes" that include, but are not limited to, racism, sexual harrassment, homophobia, transphobia, and anti-semitism.
8.
Disrespect to all members and/or the GM's is also not tolerated. We're here to roleplay, not babysit. Drama stays in the roleplay.
9.
If you have a problem with a certain member, please privately message one of the GM's or that member to get said issue sorted out.
10.
All writers must stay accurate to the lore. There is no one character that is more of a focus than another, and therefore, no exceptions unless absolutely justifiable and approved by the GM's.
