Fat Gandalf's Bar & Lounge (OOC Chat) - Chapter Six

So, if we spend an Action Point to do a special maneuver, does that still add to a die roll, or is it completely used up by getting us into the fancy maneuver? Are we still going to stick with spending only one Action Point per round?

Yes (it adds) and yes (EDIT: See next post). I'm considering renaming Action Points to Willpower points to reflect this change if we keep it and the Diamonds of Fate (which was a placeholder name anyway) to something like Soulpower points (you have to admit; being able to roll a d30 instead of a d20 without the possibility of fumbling is pretty darned empowering!).

If folks are willing, perhaps we can get into Nature and Demeanor as well to allow the role-playing to be the fuel for Willpower instead of just having to go up a level. Whether yea or nay, that's as far down the White Wolf Road that I want to go in Broadsword.

Mind you, this is all still in the experimental stage. I'm just voicing out thoughts in the wonderful world of "What If?". =)

I like the idea of going to a willpower-point-like action point, whatever we call it. Makes it a bit more flexible and allows for some really cool stuff once in a while.

If you want to balance it, maybe you could restrict it to areas of specialties that a character is known for. Like a signature skill.

That's a neat idea, D. but it might overcomplicate things if taken too far (so don't take it too far, right?). You make a good point in staying with what PCs are good at. I'm comfortably-familiar with what each of your characters can reasonably do and those are boundaries I think I'm okay working with.

That's what I meant. Nothing complicated. Like someone who is a trained sniper, or the known sniper of the bunch. Should have the chance to show off a really amazing shot. Same goes with a scientist pulling off some epic hacking or other such things.

But I'm also a little biased in favor of the idea in general cause any time I take the effort to put the odds on trying a cool feat, it signals the dice to roll a one.

I am good with using the Action Points/Willpower to be able to fuel awesome effects. It gives a new incentive to use the points before leveling up and losing them.

I'm all for having the chance to do more awesome stuff. A question and a comment:

Would the restriction to 'signature skills' only be relevant for new potential uses, or for action points (or whatever they are called then) in general? Personally, I like the option of using action points to get out of sticky situations, which are sometimes moments where doing what you're good at won't do the trick.

If folks are willing, perhaps we can get into Nature and Demeanor as well to allow the role-playing to be the fuel for Willpower instead of just having to go up a level. Whether yea or nay, that's as far down the White Wolf Road that I want to go in Broadsword.
In general, I like the idea of refueling on action points by some other means than a randomly timed level-up. I'm not sure how the Nature/Demeanor stuff works, exactly, though, and I'm not sure about anything that awards the points for something called 'good roleplaying', because it adds a grading system for something we're all naturally trying to do to the best of our capabilities here anyway.

Well, when I said signature skills, I didnt mean to make it sound that narrow. But more along a field of expertise that fits the char thematically.

Like Ricky, for instance, I could maybe put a focus on fancy flying. And this could be pulling off a cool attack maneuver or skin of teeth evasion. And with a bit of creativity apply it to other sticky situations, such as it showing in a sense of risky stupidity that pays off. Or socially, talking his way out of a tense situation with a wink and pick up line so cheesy they cant help but be taken aback.

A bit of a vague range, but having it apply more thematically to a char seemed a little more intuitive than using a point it for just anything.

I also like the idea of refueling the points. And am also on the fence on the demeanor/nature thing. On one hand, I love any excuse to play to a chars nature and demeanor. On the other, I would need to hear a bit more about it to really decide on if that part would be an unneeded layer or not.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm familiar with the white wolf system or not. The ones I know that have a predominant willpower stat are Scion and Exalted.

Would it be possible to fly close enough to the van to pick her up or get her attention? Or clear it out a little to make landing easier?

As long as the van door remains open, it seems unlikely that Ylva could not hear Jezebel's fiery approach. We are talking about a Valkyrie in Guardian mode after all. Even with the van door closed, it would be hard to imagine she could not hear the roar of its single engine although identifying the sound might prove a more difficult task.

Because of the way the two prologues have progressed, by the time Ricky is directly overhead, Ylva is well-inside the hidden corridor that the van conceals. Ricky, on the other hand, might well believe his VIP is still inside said van. Clearing out the area would involve a few rounds of Ricky using the Valkyrie's free hand to move cars around (made a little faster if he puts the GU-11 gun pod down to make use of both hands).

EDIT: This would be faster than setting down outside the junkyard, exiting Jezebel, and getting to the van.

Ricky will do that then. Clearing the area to make a safe spot to land.

Hey D.? Did you want to write a post to that effect or (if you lack the time and opportunity) do you want me to post again?

Silanon Silanon Heya Sil! Just a heads-up that a post for Ylva is up (in case RP Nation didn't alert you). =)

Thanks for the note! Already saw it, I'll hopefully be able to post today. Just had to decide whether it's really all that clever to run straight into trouble...

Cool! Just wanted to be sure that you saw it. =)

Hi there, short notification: From next Wedneday to Sunday, I'll not be at home - doing a bit of travelling. Got an internet connection and my laptop, but don't know how active I'll be; so if there's no response for a while, that's why :)

Thank you for the heads-up, Sil! Safe travels and fine memories to you!

Heya Gang! This is probably a good time to let everyone here know - I have one day a week off until the end of March (and possibly beyond). Please pardon my delays in posting. =)

It was either a Ricky Martin song or a rap called "Ricky" that, while I can agree with some of its lyrics, I'm just into the tune. So Ricky Martin is what you got (this time)! =)
