Or, Toph can do the explaining, and I'll just have Elinor's reactions when I can get a post up...

Heya Gang!

Personally, I think the three of you ought to have a talk on this whole "let me do the talking" issue. It's one thing if I give my two cents (because I'm Dannigan and Dannigans care a lot by default), but I'm your Game Master here in Robotech: Broadsword (and I don't want to make any new rules concerning this; I want you to talk out your differences, come to an understanding, and keep gaming like the friends we are!). So who wants to be the first to get started? =)

Secondly, I don't have any plans to change our gaming system here, just the options available to you. If you remember way back when we first started, I wanted to give you guys and gals a combat-related game where...
1. You could fight using your mecha.
2. You could do battle in S.D.C. combat (martial arts) with no Mega-Damage gear.
3. Just about anything in between, but probably not a whole lot of space combat (if any). My Earth in Broadsword has plenty going on it - it all depends on where you take it.

With that in mind, you didn't just have the options of belonging to the Army of Southern Cross. You could fight for this Earth I've created as one of the A.S.C., or alongside them, or completely on your own! You could modify mecha and maybe build new mecha too - all at the cost of going out there in the adventuring world and well... adventuring! Plus, what's this whole Traversing thing about anyway? And what's up with these new aliens running around too with their own agendas, right? On top of that, the Anti Unification League is kidnapping kids like Reggie, but why? How about that enemy you fought on Eglin that came out of the alien containment pod? Where'd that seething son of a gun come from? This is in addition to the rest of the world and their own conflicts (Arkansas Protectorate, the Combat Zone in Brazil, South America, and so forth). Adventure is there for the taking!

Though these thoughts are fun, I'm not saying this to build up hype; I'm saying this because you have reached a point in the game I've been longing for your characters to get to (no, not the shower! Well, then again, I'm glad your characters are getting cleaned up after all you went through on the Zeki-Zentraedi Assault Scout). But you'll learn more about that after we've talked about the issue I raised at the beginning of this post. Then we can keep on with the fun stuff and talk more about where the game should go!

Have fun, Gang! =)

Well, since I think I'm the one with the problem, I should explain what my problem is.

Short version, for those who don't read in detail: I hate being ignored and it hurts when I feel I'm not part of the game.

I know I don't post as quickly as you guys do. There are several reasons for that, which I can go into if anyone really wants me to. However, because I don't post as quickly or as often, I frequently feel left behind or not part of the group. This degrades my creativity and my motivation to post at all. When a lot has happened since my last post, should I respond to all of it? Should I just respond to the latest and pretend my character just didn't have anything to say? (Even if she would have, given the opportunity.) Unfortunately the dithering and lowered motivation only exacerbates the problem because I then take longer to post. Yay negative emotions.

Having said that, even when I do get the opportunity, motivation, and inspiration, I'm sometimes left wondering what, exactly, I can do to contribute -- because it's already been done or said. Most of the time this is just mildly irritating, but when, as just happened this week, I've said I'm going to post soon, and even said what I was going to include, it's exasperating to log in and find out someone's already done what I said I was going to do, leaving me to start over from scratch, assuming I can even think of anything besides shrugging my shoulders and logging off again. Now, this is not to say that I think Psychie should rewrite her post at all. It was an excellent post, and I thought it was very well written and covered the requested information. My problem was, it wasn't requested of Toph, but of Elinor; I said I was going to post with that information; and now I'm left wondering (again) why I'm here. This is not the first time, nor the most annoying one, just the latest example. Yes, Sherwood, you've done it too, but I've noticed you tend to ignore any conflict once the immediate situation is past, and frankly, I don't see that changing now. See above for how much I like being ignored.

Mind you, I don't feel left out all the time, and I certainly don't want the game to come to a halt because Kaerri can't get her act together and post. What I would like, and I don't think it's too much to ask, is that if someone asks my character something, could you please give me a chance to respond before taking over? Or if I've said I'm going to post something specific as soon as I can, could you please give me a chance to do it?

Sherwood Sherwood Psychie Psychie Kaerri Kaerri

Psychie? Sherwood? Could this get addressed so we can continue with the game, please? No one is looking for apologies, just solutions, and we need one.

I am here. I thoiught we were waiting on you to move us past the showers for the next scene.

What about Kaerri's last post here? Or my post at #102?

Let me say that I have no complaints about the pacing of the fight scene we were in, nor the way it was described. Since we are not around a table from one another to use miniatures, we just got to go with what we can.

I have enjoyed the mecha-focused aspect of the game for Toph, with a bit of side work on foot for Mario and Herc (while he was with us), and would like to see more of it in the future of the game, interspaced with times for our characters to have encounters or another chance to shine outside our vehicles.

As for Kaerri's issue, I have only one real complaint about the game and that is the rate of making posts. I understand that everyone has a life to get to, but there are times it seems to take a week or more between posts made by either me or Sherwood and the ones made by Dannigan or Kaerri. This last time, Kaerri made a OOC comment about Cera and her shower question, then did nothing IC about it. It was at that point, after several days, that I stepped up and had Toph make her comments on her thoughts on the way to shower. It was in no way meant to keep Elinor from being able to add her own thoughts or comments on either the process or the way that Toph talks about it.

If that overstepped, I am sorry.

Thank you, Psychie, for addressing the issue and providing feedback! *hugs* Again, I'm not looking for apologies, just solutions!

And thank you for sharing your complaint! Feedback (whatever the type) is one way Game Masters "get GM xp" as it were. When I know what's going right and wrong, I can change it. It's when folks ignore others or simply respond with silence that I can't do a damned thing. So, hooray for sharing your thoughts and feelings! I need those! =)

Re: Post frequency. Typically, I check RPNation usually at least once a day (sometimes a lot more than that). My posting philosophy has been, "Give everyone a chance to post before I do or player(s) might feel left out." Whatever everyone else's frequency, I do try to post at least once a week (especially during combat and scenes of "deep" roleplaying if you understand what I mean).

You probably know by now that if I don't post often enough, I lose the "feel" for the story. That endangers the very game. So, I would like everyone to post at least once per week (if possible, "moar!" please). Myself included. =)

Sherwood? Kaerri? Your thoughts and feelings?

I know, I suck when it comes to posting frequency compared to others. I do try post at least once a week, but sometimes factors combine to make that difficult. Frankly, for me it's much easier to drop a quick OOC note in the midst of everything else I'm doing on the site while on my break at work, which is when I do a lot of my checking of alerts. Making an actual RP post, as I said earlier, involves being in the right frame of mind, having time to write out something potentially complex, and being able to do so conveniently (I'm just not that comfortable writing RP posts without a "proper" keyboard, i.e. being on my computer rather than on my phone).

I will try to make more of an effort to post promptly when something is obviously waiting on my response. In turn, could people please check the time/date stamps on each post and give me a little time? I'm not asking for weeks. Sorry for pointing this out, but it was one day between Dannigan's IC post and my OOC post, and one more day between my OOC post and Psychie's post. I understand the frustration of wanting to keep the game going, and I absolutely do not want to hold the game back, but really, that's why I made my OOC post in the first place -- so that people would know what I was planning on saying and so that they would know I was trying to post sooner. Like I said, it's easier and quicker for me to drop a one-liner OOC post than to do several paragraphs of IC, but I had hoped the indication of incoming ICness would count for something.

TLDR, I guess: I'll do what I can to improve.

I appreciate everybody chatting about this and getting their feelings out. when things like this are out in the open, I think people communicate better, and I think all of us want that. =)

As for IC, I felt my post was getting long, so I figured it would be a good idea to see if any of you guys wanted to post what was on your characters' minds.

But, if no one has anything to say, let me know and I'll kick things up a notch or three. =)

O.K. It looks like no one has anything to say in-game. I'll be kicking things up a notch (and throwing a curveball your way) soon.

I hope life is treating you well. Wheee! =)

Elinor makes such a good "big sis" to Cera. So cool of her!

Psychie Psychie Will Toph chime in with her perspective too?

Heya Gang! Just a "forewarning," here - the next in-game (and possibly OOC) post will be large-ish in size. So... when it comes, please have your milk and cookies or whatever snacks you favor handy.

Which begs the question... what do you like to snack on at your computer? I'm currently sitting here with tea and honey and some graham crackers.

Sure!

I plan on posting here tomorrow. =)

Heya Gang!

Here's a bit of Real Life background concerning my inspiration for Robotech: Broadsword.

The Maelstrom is a war across time. Why? Because one day, I just got fed up with the Robotech story as it stood!

Sometime around August 2016, I was reading through Palladium Robotech, learning about the Invid Invasions origins, and that's where it happened. I mean, the Zentraedi destroyed most of the Earth and humanity in the 1st war (all of the Earth in Do You Remember Love?), the Robotech Masters stomp us again in the 2nd war. The Invid Invasion begins and sure enough, Earth is getting stomped on again! Again! Come on! Learning this, something in this hyperkinetic brain of mine just plain snapped!

The whole story just sounded so dismal. Hostile aliens show up. Kill innocent families and people left and right. Earth is plunged into chaos. Technology and science in some places set back 10,000 years. It's worse than a nuclear war because it's planet-wide (and not just in civilized places).

Well, dangit, if I were going to start up my very own Robotech game (which I never had in all the time I've been loving this wonderful hobby), then, how would I run it? What would I change? Or... if you'll allow me to use what I think is the most powerful question of all in fantasy and science fiction writing...

...what if?

Yeah! What if there was a way to prevent the Invid Invasion? What if the Invid showed up and Earth was ready for 'em? One butt-whooping for Earth, I could take. Two is getting on my nerves. But this would take away the really big one where the remaining people of the Earth lose the Army of the Southern Cross (from what I've read, they almost all die!) and get enslaved by the Invid forces. Well... it's my game. My rules. My imagination. My playground! And I'm going to do as I damn well please!

So... what if I made up a game where I could take whatever I wanted from virtually any Robotech book (and beyond) and have a hyperactive blast with it? What if I could modify existing mecha within reason (like BattleTech or Mekton) and let the players just run wild with 'em? What if there were new alien races and new challenges and hey! What if they could "talk" to their machines? Somehow convince the machines and control them? Wouldn't that be neat? What if I created different factions and faces, familiar and new, made it all in Florida (which made it out of the 1st Robotech War pretty darned well). And whoa! Get this! I could bring in characters I haven't played in forever! I miss these "people"!

That's how it happened, Gang. A long time ago in Real Life, a buddy taught me a lesson. He told me that sometimes, in order to bring about a big change in your life, you just have to get sick of something so bad that you just can't stand it, and you'll change it.

Well, Robotech: Broadsword exists because I had enough of Earth getting its tail kicked and I had a lot of ideas I felt I could make a really fun game out of. And here we are! Almost 2 1/2 years later! Whoa!

Thanks for being a part of this with me, Gang! I dearly wish I could keep this game hidden from the public as I had them before (my biggest nightmare is having my work plagiarized), but... it is what it is.

RP Nation is terrific, so are you, and there's no "what if" about that. =)

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

Raise your hand if you saw that last IC post coming, or rather, Cera's explanation of events. =)

Thanks a bunch, Sherwood! =)

Kaerri Kaerri Psychie Psychie Any thoughts or actions from you or your characters or should I move the game along?

I'll try to get something up today.

No worries, Psychie! Thanks for taking the time to post and enjoy your time with your family, lady! =)
