Fantasy Farewell to Kings: Elide’s Tale

"Thank you," Elide sighed, offering her a weak smile. "It really means a lot. I'd be more than happy to help you in any way I can."

She sighed "I don't know... I hate him and I want him to feel the pain I felt... But at the same time, I don't want to cause him pain"

Leona frowned. “That’s not true.” Her zone was still active. A zone of truth spell could last up until an hour if they remained in the zone. “You hate him, and you do want to hurt him. I honestly don’t blame you. What an awful thing to do to a baby and it’s mother. The cruelest of cruelty. If I had your strength I’d likely seek revenge until my last breath.”

She sighed and stared down at her feet. "does that make me evil? For wanting to kill him?"

Leona put a hand on Elide’s shoulder. “In the book of Light, Mitra rose after slaying a deer made of perfect darkness. She took a life in the name of greater good, for its pitch blood ran and became the night sky. A light cannot truly shine unless it has darkness to cast away. I will not pass judgement, as only Mitra may judge your soul. I will say that none shall weep the death of a baby killer, least of all the Goddess.”

Leona returned the hug. “I brought a gift. Just in case you seek spiritual guidance. Every home in Dominion should have one.” She handed Elide the thick book she brought with her. It was a book of stories, poetry and prayer. A collection of works from many religious philosophers and from many ages. It was a fine, comprehensive tome.

She took the book gratefully. "Thank you- this will give me something to do throughout the day." Elide smiled, skimming through a few of the vast pages of knowledge.

One page caught her eye. It was titled The Crusaders of Witcham. Written by a paladin during the Blight, it went on in flowery detail how the holy knights purged the land of evil. One quote stuck out.
“Is it evil to kill? This question is of much debate. The Goddess Mitra is one of healing and life, and yet men kill in the name of the Life Mother. I would say it is a greater evil to let darkness grow and consume light, then it is to snuff out its dark flame before many perish. We do not consider ourselves monsters, but the slayers of thee. The opposition will see us as monsters, but the mouse’s opinion is of little concern to the cat.”

A small smile poked at her lips before closing it and putting down on the table. "Thank you again,"

Leona looked over at the page. “Ah, the meditation of Sir Plankey. A lot of warriors are drawn to those chapters. The large man you were with, he looked like a warrior.”

She chuckled, "If that's what you want to call him." Elide laughed, "his name is Bart," She smiled, "but scary warrior guy works too, in fact I bet he'd like that" Eli laughed brightly

Leona smiled. “Bart! Even his name sounds like hitting something.” She whacked the table with her skinny fist. “His words hit me like a verbal fist. Does he do that for you, too?”

Just as she spoke, the door suddenly opened with a mighty crash!

Bart entered the room, with an arrow in his shoulder and clutching his hip.
“Help, somebody!” He cried as he fell to the ground.
Entering behind him was an elf with golden skin, and a long black cloak.
“Ah, a healing sister and a street rat. These are your toys, barbarian?” The elf said. It was Fon, the banker. Elide had only heard his name in passing.

"Oh my god! The hell did you do?" Elide yelped as she ran to Bart's aide.

“I did nothing. I carried his bum ass here after I got ambushed. Can someone heal him?”
“I-I can!” Leona said. She clapped her hands together and started a prayer. A brilliant golden light appeared around the warrior. His bloody wound closed up, and became raw pink flesh. Fon pulled the arrow out of him.
Bart groaned, then exhaled. His lungs were clear
“He’s a decent meat shield. I’ll give him that. If he turned and ran, I would’ve gutted him myself.”

"Lord- what did you get yourself into?" Elide asked, gently embracing Bart. "Please tell me they're not gonna try to kill us,"

Fon laughed. “It’s the city, baby. Everyone goes at some point. When he kills himself, you should let me buy you a drink.” He smirked and walked away.

Elide rolled her eyes and turned back to Bart. "How are you doing and how did you get shot?"

Bart looked at the floor. He muttered. “Someone shot me. I didn’t have good visibility.”
He sat on the floor for a bit while his fatigue wore off. He saw Leona, and then turned to Elide.
“New friends?” He asked. He didn’t seem to recognize the girl.

"Remember that girl we met at the chapel, the one you kind of yelled at," She chuckled, kissing him on the cheek before raising to her feet once more.

Bart looked up. “Huh? That was a... right. Thank you for healing me, Leona.” Bart said, smiling at their new friend.
“That was nice healing, too. I gripped for pain but, hey.”
“Oh, thank you. I work very hard to heal. I was talking to Elide about the crystal orb.”
“Ah, grand. Elide, your eye is a little bloody. Did you pass out again?” Bart asked his girl.

"Yeah, I had to show Leona here what the real problem was." Elide explained, taking a small rag and gently pressing it to the wound.
