So, I have an idea I've been toying around with for a bit, and wanted to see if anyone wanted to jump on and maybe toss a couple of ideas at me. The RP is centered around a few kingdoms faced with a threat that would eradicate them. They need to work together, decide on a leader, or could simply devolve into hostilities, with one or more kingdoms trying to expand for their own profit.

Now, I'd prefer the RP to work in more of a freeform style, but have considered and am willing to switch to a more faction based style. I am looking for dedicated players who are willing and able to at least check on the RP once or twice per day. Posts should be 3-5 lines at minimum, depending on your action (no need to write a paragraph about eating an apple), written with attention to basic spelling and grammar, and mindful of detail in other players' posts. If someone describes their character as walking past yours, describing a similar setting and making note of passing someone who seems awfully similar to yours, please at least acknowledge them.

Finally, setting and factions. The idea I've been working with so far is based on Medieval fantasy, swords, bows, magic, mythical races, etc. I have a lot of unrefined ideas/basics about the specific locations of races and kingdoms, but a certain race won't be completely tied to a specific location. I would prefer everyone having one character they focus on and develop, but if you think you can manage more then go ahead.

I still have content to develop, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't spending time on nothing. If you have questions, suggestions, or simply want to show interest, feel free to reply or PM me.

Yeah, this sounds pretty good. I'm brand new here myself, and the fantasy RP's I've seen so far either don't interest me or seem to late into the storyline to really jump in. Would the citizens of the factions have much interaction, or would it just be political? Either way, I'm on board with this, if you're willing to accept a newbie to the site in. I've RPed for a couple of years now, but it's been a while since I've roleplayed, at least several months; I may be a bit rusty.

This seems like an interesting idea, defiantly something I would work with, and possibly join. I have plenty of experience (though this site has defiantly changed since the last time I was here), I do hope enough people show interest to make this rp happen.

Now for the races, you said fantasy, so would that be the typical, elves, dwarves, and stuff like that? Or do you have other races in mind? Either way I can adapt.

I might also have some interest in joining this though I might have trouble sticking to the 3-5 lines rule. If I'm feeling inspired, I tend to write quite a bit xD

I'll be watching this thread, I'll be on all night with a tab open for RPNation, so at any time if you get back to the thread I'll be ready to discuss the RP.

OK, to get started on these questions

- By 3-5 lines, I meant as a minimum. I should probably clear that up, but you can write as much as you want.

- Yes, I'm trying to find good places for all the standard fantasy races, Elves, Dark Elves, Humans, Dragons, Dwarves, etc

- I'm gonna try to encourage cooperation between factions, but people living in one kingdom wouldn't just be stuck there. People can move and visit other cities/towns. For example, a tavern would likely serve patrons from anywhere. I hope that answers your question, I understand what you are asking but am having a hard time putting it into words for some reason.

Thank you for the clear answers, this is helpful to me. All right, do you have any number on the minimum amount of people you want before starting? Like I said, I'm willing to discuss this and not just bother you with questions over and over, I just don't know what all is already planned, so I don't know what could be suggested.

I'd like at least 5 people for a freeform styled RP, but if we wanted to do more involving factions (people RPing as the leaders of the kingdoms and negotiating with others, etc) then I'd like to have several more, depending on the final decision on the kingdoms.

In terms of what I have planned, I have ~5 factions (pretty much just the races and locations, not to much else in terms of lore). I'm somewhat busy during the day, but I often have time to do a quick check-in and read a few posts. That being said, I'm definitely open to suggestions for about anything, nothing is really finalized at this point.

Do you have the roles of the leaders planned out, or is the plan to have people make their own character if accepted for the leader position? Just out of curiosity. Also, if it hasn't been established already, I'm in as well.

As far as suggestions go, the main one I have currently is perhaps the scale of the world and how it is affected politically. The factions' wars, trading, etc. could perhaps add tension or other effects to the worlds or certain races to make it all seem dynamic.

I currently have the backstory and role within the RP of a one of the leaders pretty much locked in. But, in terms of other leaders, the only thing i really have set out is the system of governance. For example, I'm planning for one of the kingdoms use a sort of council system, with the most powerful lords of the region coming together and discussing matters. In terms of scale, I'm gonna try to scale the world to the amount of players we get. If we end up with 8 players spread over 3 or so factions, I'd probably cut the unused ones, offer the roles to others within the RP, or simply keep them out of the main story and used them mostly for reference. So, if someone wanted to make arrangements with a currently unmanned faction, I'd probably end up stepping in temporarily for said unmanned faction.

Ah, I see. The government system is what I thought you may have had planned out already. What about the criteria for roleplaying as a leader? I may be interested, if I can pass the requirements; I am still thinking about it, though.

If we could get enough interest for a structured style, the leaders would likely be mostly talking/negotiating with other leaders, setting up alliances, etc. However, if we end up with a more freeform style, you'd likely end up more as another character in the story, likely participating in the story as a member of a smaller party trying to complete a smaller goal. Basically, I'm trying to get a gauge of how many people are interested initially and build the system around that fact. If we end up with a smaller group, I'll most likely end up using the various kingdoms simply as starting points for characters, more of a background system rather than a main focus of the RP.

What is your stance on leading smaller political parties while in the freeform? Or at least having them in the story. Obviously not on the mainz faction scale, of course.

Alright, I gotta throw in the towel for the night, but leave any more questions/suggestions and I'll get to them tomorrow. I hope my somewhat inexperienced approach isn't letting anyone down, I'm just trying to get a feel for how I need to set up the RP.

Short answer to short question: with a freeform, I'd definitely encourage smaller groups, such as mercenary companies.

I'll elaborate more when I get a chance, but for now I gotta hit the sack. Night all!

As an avid fan of Sci Fi and Fantasy in all of its incarnations, I'm sure that I'm going to have an absolute blast with this. Are there any major default factions/kingdoms already Implemented into this system or do we establish our own factions or kingdoms/empires?

I like the idea

It's pretty cool

Would it be okay if when we do this (if we do it) if I could be an assassin

This is a lovely idea and it certainly has a great potential, I would love to be a part of it. Although I have to ask, what is our main plot?

Currently, I have a handful of kingdoms I want to include, but if we decide on a more structured RP I might allow one or two player made factions.

Yes, you would be able to play as an assassin, but I'm gonna try to limit the number assassins. Too many times I've had RPs with a bunch of assassins sneaking about and never meeting each other.

The plot is going to differ based on the amount of interest and the decision between freeform and structured. I'm a bit short on time at the moment, but hopefully I''ll be able to grind most of the RP out on Sunday.

Okay then. I just want to suggested that we have an initial plot, just to give us a starting point and a path we could follow. I have seen countless of amazing roleplays that die due to the lack of destination and goal.

Hey I'm new here, but this RP sounds exactly what I have been looking for. If/when this RP starts i would gladly join

I definitely have an idea where I want the story to go, but I'm pretty much gonna ask everyone if they prefer a structured, faction based RP or a more freeform, action based RP. Once we get that decided, I'll shape the plot around the style we decide on.

So , before I really get cracking on the plot and backstory, I need to know if you prefer the more structured or the more freeform approach. If you would rather PM me than do a post, feel free to.
