Honestly, one of the plots I've had in mind is similar to some of the ones you've posted here. Dragon and hunter/hunted. The character/plot I've had in the back of my mind involves my character slowly befriending and, unknown to the dragon, poisoning them.
The degree of the poisoning may vary, but after the dragon was sickly, weak, and thin, he plundered the dragon's home and they were left for dead, possibly even triggering a cave-in on his way out. Maybe his conscience got the better of him and he decided a quick death might be more merciful or forgettable. Turns out said dragon either survived or was found by someone who knew him - a shape-shifting dragon or a dragon sympathizer.
The length of time between that event and the present may vary, as is the degree of the poisoning and how much the dragon remembers from having been slowly poisoned over the course of weeks or months.
