Name: Mila Quinn
Human (Vault Dweller, Raider, settler, etc.), Synth, or Ghoul?: Caravan Guard, Watchdog (like a local Vigilante but alot more violent) Ex-Mercenary.
Image (or Description if you can't find an image you like):TantalicHalo471_Fallout4_20180314_17-57-46.png
Age: 24 (during AU Fo4) 27 (after AU Fo4 )

Background: (It would be a good idea to include events that motivate them here.): Mila (17 at the time) lived with her oldest (21) and youngest sister (15) in the slums of a city while the eldest of the three attempted to look after them after their parents left them behind. Each stating that they were old enough to fend for themselves in the Wasteland before disappearing forever.
The three sisters eventually grew apart and began to resent each other quite a bit because of this until one day an argument between the three broke out with Janet (the oldest) standing firm in her argument that they (Mila and Rebecca , the youngest.) should be strong and figure out how to survive on their own the same way their parents had. This, of course, proved very traumatic for both of them and after Janet left for several days they assumed the worst and fled. A few months into striking out across the Mojave on their own Rebecca was scooped up by Raiders and Mila narrowly escaped. For weeks she did nothing but scream out in search of her sister as she walked barefoot and broken across the Mojave. After attempting to rob a traveling gunsmith by the name of Samuel Perry she was taken in instead and raised by him. He taught her how to use weapons and what made for a good marksman, how much every bullet matters and even how to defend herself without a weapon of any kind and together they di what felt like traveling across the world as they made the trek across the U.S. from the Mojave to Boston.

With her knowledge of weaponry and not much else due to her lack of education she eventually struck out again (age 22) to put her skills to use as a mercenary but after a botched job where she accidentally shot and killed an armed child she sunk into a deep depression upon returning to the only true home, she knew two years later at age 24. From there she moved back in with her foster parent, Samuel Perry, alongside his fiance and took up work with a butcher named Polly in Diamond City. Eventually, she grew weary of the job and after mounting tension between her and the local raider gang she and Samuel eventually got into helping to guard caravans due to the growing perils of their usual routes. This became her job until she grew tired of waiting for raiders to come to her and decided to hunt for them instead, using the loss of her sister as motivation to save any and anyone she could even if it meant sacrificing herself in the process. She scoured Boston for any and all injustices she could for the next two years and still does to this day.

During those years she became involved in a committed relationship with a slowly mending Irish cage fighter (Cait) who sympathized with her cause and eventually they joined up with a meek and "fresh from the vault" Nora and went though the events of Fo4 with Mila (in this AU) taking the role of the protagonist.

((She essentially does most of the heavy lifting and fighting due to Nora being a simple lawyer with moderate weapon skills who just had a breakdown after her son was kidnapped and her husband was shot. Etc, etc. By the end of the events of Fo4 she finds and kills "Father" takes synth Shaun, destroys the institute, and then continues to lead the Minutemen as their general to this very day, in memory of her husband. The idea being that she does what she does now because she knows he would've leapt at the chance to lead people who were at least trying to help people like the Minutemen were.))

during their travels together they discovered a dilapidated vault and eventually caught word of another vault filled with untold riches. They intended to set off for this place together along with some other recruited locals in order to bring back as much of these riches as they could to improve their lives and the lives of their families. After a pipe bomb trap was accidentally set off, however, Cait lost the use of her leg until further notice and Mila was forced to go on this trek with mostly strangers instead. During their travels, most grew anxious and turned back and others eventually attempted to betray Mila by turning her over to raiders who had put a bounty on her head. She survived the betrayal and ever since has been wandering the country alone in the hopes of finding something worth all of her troubles as she approaches the very building she's been searching for all these months.

Personality: She's cold to most and untrusting. She can be warm and even energetic at times but she has a somewhat bipolar nature. Sometimes, she's cocky, drearily sarcastic and morbid. Other times she's emotionally distraught, and angry. When relaxed she can be quite charming if not rough around the edges but it all depends. She's often suicidal but pushes on anyway, her logic being that she has to live out the rest of her life in order to make up for the life her sister never got to experience.

Quirks: (What makes your character stand out?): Her skin condition along the side of her face, leading down to her jaw. She often hides it with her hair because she's very insecure about it despite being very fond of telling stories about her scars and how she "earned" them.

Likes: Music, Guns, Exploration, Campfire Stories, Scars. Ghouls, Synths, Children, Accents, Cats, Old Books, Robots (not synths)
Dislikes: Inactivity, Glass, Bugs, Any kind of Substance Use, Bigots, Raiders, Confined Spaces, Lanterns, Mustard, Barbed wire, Brothels, Cults,

Skills: She is a skilled marksman due to having nearly nothing else to do for entertainment and a decent fighter due to her training with Cait for several years as well between workdays ( or sometimes work weeks.) She also learned much about sleight of hand whilst struggling for survival as a child.

Main items/weapons: (Nothing overpowered and it's assumed you'll have enough basic items. This is for your character's weapon, armor, special items, etc.): A scoped rifle and shotgun along with a custom made 10mm pistol (with suppressor) given to her on her birthday one year by Samuel. (Mostly a backup weapon.) A multi-purpose machete. (its smaller than your average machete though.) She also carries around a duffel bag filled with medical items, food, ammo, and a single backup pistol in case of emergencies since she had to pack light for the long trip ahead and instead filled up on vitals (ammo, meds, etc) through vendors along the way.

Armor: She wears a variation of Kellog's Armor layered with leather and metal armor along with arm braces and leg armor. The Pipboy she wears was scavenged and repaired from her first vault "raid" and due to misuse is now covered in blood stains as well. It also malfunctions every few minutes. She mostly uses it as a glorified radio and map she can walk with to keep her mind from wandering while traveling. Has never discovered the Vats feature (or anything else that would be OP.)

I'VE INCLUDED A PHOTO TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HER ARMOR AS WELL AS A PHOTO BETTER DISPLAYING HER SKIN DISORDER

TantalicHalo471_Fallout4_20190102_20-24-15.png

Motivation: She wants to make a change by improving the lives of her family and friends, and anyone else she can. It's a hail mary attempt at a different life that she's not even sure she wants for herself but she's determined to gain for the people she cares about.

Name: Ava Pearson
Covert Name: Jihye Khan
Human - Vault Dweller
Vault 44 - Covert Ops
Pre-War

During the Sino-American War, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation carried out a clandestine program known as Operation: Vigil. Fearful that the various “Chinatowns” in cities across North America were host to Chinese spies and saboteurs, the FBI began recruiting handpicked Chinese-American citizens and screening them extensively for loyalty to the United States. Once vetted and trained, these operatives were inserted into Chinese-American enclaves to act as informants and -- on occasion -- assassins targeting “dissident elements” and Chinese government sympathizers on domestic soil.

In 2067, construction of Vault 44 began. While ostensibly a safe haven in the event of a nuclear apocalypse like the other Vaults, in truth there was a deeper purpose behind 44. The Vault was a joint-operation between the federal government and Vault-Tec. Almost all residents were of Asian-American descent, many of them veterans of Operation: Vigil along with their families. The residents and their future children would be trained extensively in survival, espionage, combat, as well as Chinese language and customs.

The intent behind Vault 44 was to open in the wake of atomic war and provide what remained of the American government with a pool of able-bodied covert operatives. Ideally, they could be deployed in secret to mainland China in order to assess the country’s state of affairs following a nuclear exchange and report back. Alternatively, many American military planners feared a reality wherein China weathered the atomic storm far better than America before launching a full-scale invasion during the aftermath. In such an event, the residents of Vault 44 would instead be used to infiltrate and carry out guerrilla warfare raids against occupying Communist forces.

Post-War and Vault Opening

As the bombs fell, the residents crowded into Vault 44 and cut themselves off from the outside world and their indoctrination began. As generations passed and none who remained in Vault 44 had seen the outside world beyond holo-tapes, many residents suggested that their attention turn toward matters of survival and cohabitation. However, the Overseer insisted on maintaining their training regimen, thus ensuring that the looming Communist menace remained an omnipresent fear in the years prior to the doors being opened.

Two centuries passed before the incumbent Overseer selected the best of the best to scout outside and report back everything they could. As expected the very first of their scouts didn’t make it back; their followers were more cautious. The world wasn’t quite what they had expected - there had been no winners to the war. Not the Russians, not the Chinese. Not even themselves. All that was left were the survivors.

This news was devastating for the residents and Overseer alike. There was no country to serve and no enemy to infiltrate. Their time and efforts training were all for naught. It was then that the Overseer came up with a plan of action: they would use their carefully honed skills to ensure the survival of their own people. He knew that releasing the Vault-Dwellers into the wastelands would only bring certain death and if they opened the doors publicly, marauders would come to take everything they had.

Little by little, the Overseer and his inner circle built up a small township around the vault, burying its doors beneath the church. The town is a sorry sight, broken down walls surrounding its exterior hardly even keeping the mole rats out, let alone Raiders. A few market stalls stand outside the main walls where disguised Vault-Dwellers peddle their wares: fresh, rad-free vegetables and water, repairs on gear and weapons and occasionally a rare item from the vault to entice some funds through their meagre market.

Full Body - Wasteland Armour
Age: 28

True Background: Ava grew up inside the Vault long after the doors had been opened and their small town built up. Children and youth were not allowed on the surface; it was too dangerous for them and for the rest of the Vault. Like the other children born to Vault 44 she was taught English and Mandarin, the art of blending in with locals and, thanks to their intel from returning scouts, what to expect on the surface.

At a young age she and her partner were tasked with a routine mission: infiltrate a township, learn everything there was and return home. Simple enough, right? Sadly for them, as they arrived at the town they were meant to infiltrate the found it under attack by Raiders. Other fledgling operatives would have turned back to the Vault empty handed but not them. Instead they managed to infiltrate the Raiders, return back to their own camp and complete their mission in full. The next time the Raiders left their camp to attack another town, the pair collected everything the could carry and returned to the Vault in triumph.

Background that is shared with others: She grew up in a one well town just south of Philadelphia. She lost both her parents at a young age and was taken in by her next of kin, an uncle and his wife and kids. Her early years were nothing to write home about but then one day a travelling group of bandits passed through their town and she was swept up in the thrill of it. She couldn't stay and continue farming with her family so she packed what few belongings she had and followed them. She learned everything else from the world, including her will trained eye as a sniper.

Personality: Playful and bubbly; Ava's outward appearance to those not from her own vault she is a kind and ever smiling. Those from her own vault, including her long-time partner, know she is a determined individual that hates failure.

Quirks: Ava has an eidetic memory which allows her to recall memories precisely, at time this can be off putting for some.

Likes: Pre-war books, if they can be found and music.
Dislikes: Boastful people. She doesn't want to know about your success and she doesn't care.

Skills: As part of her training from within the Vault:
~ Fluent in Mandarin and English
~ Deadly Marksmen with her sniper rifle.
~ Proficient with her 10mm pistol
~ Adept at hand to hand and bladed combat utilizing a machete
~ Mechanic - Each of the Vault children born to her Vault were taught a specific skill.

Main items/weapons:
~ Long Distance Relationship - A prize from her very first mission. She had never parted with it and will never do so willingly.
~ 10mm Pistol - with muzzle brake attachment.
~ Parang Machete
~ Sturdy Leather Armour crafted by skilled leather workers from her
~ Pip boy - As they are not advertising that they're from an active Vault, her Pip boy is integrated into the armour of her left arm. It reads into an earpiece built into her helm.
~ Mechanics Tool Bag - Less than a dozen multi-type tools within a leather bag always attached to her belt.

Motivation: Outwardly, she's in it for the money. However she and her partner have a laundry list of things deemed needed for their own Vault - their mission is to get in, grab what they need to repair their water filtration systems and get home without letting anyone be the wiser.

Song: Lesley Gore - You Don't Own Me

Name: Vincent Lee
Covert Name: Haoran Tao
Race: Human - Vault-Dweller
Appearance:

latest
wasteland_scavenger_by_jflaxman_d535uvf-fullview.jpg

Age: 29

Background: As far as those he meets in the Wastes are concerned, Vince is from a small, nameless town on the outskirts of what remains of Philadelphia. He has no kin by blood and instead sees his traveling companion Ava as his closest friend -- the two having fallen in together years ago while growing up. The two now roam the wastes as scavengers, explorers, and -- on occasion -- mercenaries.

In truth, Vincent was born and raised in Vault 44. The town he supposedly hailed from was little more than a facade. His elder brother was a member of one of the preceding expeditions to the surface and never returned. Vince volunteered to follow in his footsteps as a member of a "surface team", training in Pre-War simulations and under the tutelage of those scouts who had survived their outings alongside his childhood friend, Ava. The two of them recently carried out their first operation on the surface, resulting in a resounding success. However, they are both well aware that their home and its residents are living in a bubble -- one that could pop at any time. With that knowledge in mind, Vince is determined to do whatever he can to keep the Vault and its residents alive and well without suffering whatever fate befell his brother years prior.

Personality: In stark contrast to his best friend and partner, Vincent is reserved and soft-spoken. Strangers may even go so far as to call him uptight or standoffish. While this would be a fair initial assessment to make, the truth is that Lee is a loyal and fiercely-protective friend to those who manage to reach his inner circle. These chosen few are exposed to a very different side of him -- one marked by wit and self-deprecating charm.

Quirks: Vince is relatively tall and lean, in contrast to many of his fellow Vault-Dwellers who tend to be slight or stocky in their frame.

Likes:
  • Animals: From Brahmin to dogs, Vince has a soft spot for the rare examples of Wasteland wildlife that aren't out to devour him on sight.
  • Pre-War Comic Strips: A guilty pleasure of his, Vince is particularly fond of Grognak the Barbarian and The Adventures of Captain Cosmos.
  • Historic Memorabilia: Vince is a bit of a "history buff" and often spent his sparse free time in the Vault learning about the history of the United States. On at least one occasion, he has invented "legitimate" reasons for Ava and himself to detour in order to visit a historical site near their scavenging zones.
Dislikes:
  • Vincent was raised for a purpose and takes the gravity of his role seriously. As such, he considers those who would shirk their duties disdainful.
  • While he is willing to make difficult choices in the Wastes for the good of his home, he despises the needless, wanton exploitation he has witnessed by hedonistic Raiders.

Skills:
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Vincent's Pre-War ancestors were keen practitioners of the martial arts, a tradition which they carried with them into the Vault for the purposes of recreation... and practical training for the day the doors opened and fighting skills might once again be called upon. To that end, Vince has years of experience in amateur boxing & wrestling along with various schools of traditional Chinese martial arts.
  • Marksmanship: Though he cannot hold a candle to Ava's sharpshooting, Vince is proficient in the operation and maintenance of firearms of various sorts.
  • Stealth: Despite his large frame, Lee is deceptively light on his feet and has solid knowledge of concealing himself from detection.
  • Medicine/Science: Lee was trained in advanced first aid and basic surgical skills should he or Ava require medical care in the field. He also has a fundamental understanding of pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and biology.
  • Linguistics: Vincent is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Items/Weapons:
  • Chinese Type 93 Assault Rifle: Fitted with a folding stock and flashlight, this compact weapon lacks precision but is ideal for the short to mid-range encounters.
  • .44 Magnum Revolver: Lee carries this snubnosed revolver as a sidearm, along with a number of speedloaders. It is dependable and capable of loading weaker and more plentiful .44 Special cartridges in addition to the more powerful Magnum rounds as needed, allowing him to scavenge ammunition from a variety of sources.
  • Hook Swords: A modern take on a traditional Shaolin weapon, one of Vault 44's engineers forged these swords for Vincent years ago. He carries and uses them sparingly, however.
  • Pip-Boy: Like all Vault-Dwellers, Vince was issued a Pip-Boy which he carries on his left arm -- though he does his best to keep from advertising this fact.
  • Medical Bag: Vincent carries a Pre-War Army-issue trauma kit with him on every outing from the Vault, stocking it with a variety of medicines and first aid supplies over the years.
  • Armor: Lee's apparel is largely a mix of rugged cloth and rawhide, with his most substantial piece of armor being a surplus Combat Armor chest guard strewn with pouches and straps for carrying equipment.

Motivation: To hear him tell it, Vince is interested solely in the monetary gain offered by the nigh-mythical Vault below the nation's capital -- hoping to collect a fair share of loot before retiring from the Wastes for good. In truth, he and Ava are interested entirely in collecting items needed to sustain Vault 44 back home... including replacement parts for life support systems that are coming dangerously close to the end of their service lives.

Song: Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
